New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has set an election date to replace Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill in Congress.

On Friday, Murphy issued a writ of election to fill a vacancy in the U.S. House of Representatives for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. A special primary election will take place on Feb. 5. A special general election will be held on April 16.

Boy, do I HATE elections.

Not only because a minority of those eligible to vote bother —  AND I understand why!  As a “red” voter in a “blue” state, my voting is hopeless —  and with all the fraud and “non-citizens” voting, it is a foregone conclusion who will “win”!

So until we have voter id requirements, we are never going to have an honest election!  AT ANY LEVEL!!!

“If voting made any difference they wouldn’t let us do it.” — Emma Goldman ― often incorrectly attributed to American humorist Mark Twain ― but very very true imho!

“Politics is the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich, by promising to protect each from the other.” – Oscar Ameringer

“It’s not the people who vote that count, it’s the people who count the votes.” — attributed to Joseph Stalin

“As long as I count the Votes, what are you going to do about it. say?” — attributed to William M. “Boss” Tweed in Thomas Nast cartoon, 7 October 1871).

Now onto “Special Elections” and “Ranked Choice Voting”.

Special elections, like here in the Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerzee this year, occurred when a sitting Congress critter was elected Governor.  This could easily be avoided if there was a rule that a sitting legislator is ineligible to run for another office.  And, for death or disability, then let the State’s legislature pick someone (from the phone book, voter rolls, someone who voted, or the unemployment office) to fill out the term.  BINGO!  No need for “special elections”.

Ranked Choice Voting, aka Instant Runoff, is necessary to prevent “spoilers” in the current scheme of “First Across The Finish Line” (aka, winner take all).  In this case, voters would rank their candidates in preferential order.  Then, in tabulation, if no one has a majority, then the lowest ranking candidate is discarded and the votes are recalculated. Voters for that lowest ranking candidate, who expressed a preference, would have their votes added to their preferred candidate. Voters for that lowest ranking candidate, who did NOT express a preference, would have their votes discarded. The recalculation would continue until a candidate has a majority or only one candidate was left; a plurality!

Seems simple enough to enact and add in some “life sentences” for cheaters and we COULD have honest elections.  Note: if we arrest low level cheaters, then, with plea bargains, we can, just like with drug dealers, work our way up the chain of corruption.

Sigh!  Fat chance in hell!

Of course, I’d prefer if voting was restricted to taxpayers, or veterans.

“A veteran is someone who at one point in his life wrote a blank check made payable to the ‘United States of America’ for an amount of ‘up to and including my life.'” -Anonymous

Remember Heinlein’s Starship Troopers’ universe? One does not merely have the right to be a citizen and vote by virtue of what Heinlein called the mere accident of birth; rather, one has to earn this right through Federal Service that tested one’s ability and willingness to sacrifice for the greater good of the polity. Bet not a lot of vets would vote for all the undeclared wars the USA has been in since WW2?

NEWJERSEY: Murphy spends tax money to subsidize or incentivize abortionists

N.J. Gov. Seeks to Draw Abortionists to Garden State
By Nicole Weatherholtz | Friday, 28 February 2025 10:27 AM EST

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has included a $2 million incentive program in his new budget proposal to draw “reproductive healthcare providers” to the Garden State, according to Catholic News Agency.

Murphy’s remarks on the 2026 budget indicate the initiative was designed to appeal to abortion providers in pro-life states, saying the program would bring reproductive healthcare providers to New Jersey who have been “targeted by politicians elsewhere.”

“I will certainly never back down from defending women — and protecting their access to reproductive healthcare and, especially, their right to an abortion,” Murphy said on Tuesday. “Those folks in Washington can try and push their anti-choice agenda on us. But as long as I am governor, they will fail.”

With the 2026 budget, the governor declared that his administration was “going to make the largest investment into protecting reproductive rights in our state’s history by fully funding women’s healthcare.”

As pro-life pro-choice little L libertarian I don’t understand why the Taxpayers of the Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerzee have to subsidize or incentivize that Phil Murphy calls “reproductive healthcare providers”.

There is a lot of emotion in this issue and personally I believe that “abortion” is a tricky topic.

Up to a certain point, the Gooferment should have no role in what should be a terrible decision that has to be made by a woman.  Perhaps guided by her doctor, her family, and her Church, she should be free to chose what she sees as “best”.

At some point, the child gets the rights of a human being.  I don’t know what that point is: conception, 3 months, viability outside of the womb, 6 months, at birth, at some number of days after birth, when they can assert their rights, at 18, at 21.  As I said, I don’t know.

But I do know, that the Gooferment should not add to the fury.  “It’s all sound and fury, signifying nothing.”  Using Taxpayer money to attract more killing of human beings seems like a failure to understand the basic role of Gooferment: “Protect its citizens!”

No mater what age they are.

It’s a topic best left to the people.  If Murphy wants, then let him pay out of his pocket; not mine.  Or start a GOFUNDME!

NEWJERSEY: Why are phones in schools a NJ State issue?

5 Takeaways From Gov. Murphy’s Penultimate State Of The State Address

  • Murphy outlined his priorities to “run through the tape” in his final year in office. Here are some of the highlights:

Education

As preschool expansion efforts continue around the state, Murphy said he would enact a new law requiring all districts to provide full-day kindergarten, to help set children “on a path to lifelong success.”

While most of the state’s school districts already offer a full-day kindergarten program, some families and children are being “left behind,” he said.

Speaking to the issue of youth mental health, Murphy said he would support a new proposal to ban cell phones from K-12 classrooms and help establish phone-free buildings.

“If you ask just about any educator, they will tell you that mobile devices are a distraction in the classroom,” he said. “They are fueling a rise in cyberbullying. And they are making it incredibly difficult for our kids, not only to learn, but to retain the substance of what they learn.”

*** end quote ***

I fail to see why this is a state issue.  And, besides, it’s controversial.

Parents and guardians give their children phones for a reason.  It’s reasonable to restrict their use during class time.  BUT, (and there is always a BIG butt), that doesn’t mean that the Gooferment should confiscate or technological prevent their use in parent – child communications.

As a tech guy, it’s very easy to kill web-surfing and interactive games during class time.  If you’re low tech, just have a rack of pigeon holes by the classroom door.  If the phone rings, allow the student to put it on speaker and talk to their adult.  (That should take care of that.)

Wasn’t there a recent school shooting that was reported by student with a phone from inside the incident?

Sorry, not a State-wide problem with a one size fits all solution that the Goofermentis famous for.  All because Governor Murphy wants to “run through the tape”!

NEWJERSEY: Is NJ doomed to become more unaffordable?

10 not-so-fun facts about Phil Murphy’s FY 2025 budget

February 27, 2024 Matt Rooney state budget

*** begin quote ***

  • Notwithstanding taxes rising again (see below), Murphy’s budget includes a $1.8 billion structural deficit and a $5 billion deficit over two years.
  • We were told that the corporate business tax surcharge had sunset, but Governor Murphy wants to retroactively tack a 2.5% tax (the “Corporate Transit Fee”) on state businesses effective January 1st. It’s a clear break with his Election 2021 promise to not raise taxes in his second term, and its purposed goal is to save NJ Transit from complete collapse. Good luck.

*** and ***

  • The StayNJ program – Election 2023’s big gimmick – is getting a relatively paltry $200 million infusion.

*** end quote ***

Not that it matters much who you vote for or against, the Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerzee blunders along to be joke of the world in terms of affordability.  I can’t believe that ANYONE stays here if you have any other choices.

Sigh!

NEWJERSEY: Did Murphy swear to protect and defend the Constituion?

NJ Gov. Murphy: We’ll Defy SCOTUS ‘to Save Lives’ if They Rule Against Abortion Pill
Ian Hanchett  — 17 May 2023

*** begin quote ***

On Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Katy Tur Reports,” New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) stated that prescribing abortion pill mifepristone in defiance of any Supreme Court ruling against the drug is “on the table,” and that such a ruling will “cost people’s lives, women in particular, sadly. And so, if that’s what’s at stake, we’ll do whatever it takes to save lives.”

Host Katy Tur asked, “Is there anything you can do as a Governor if mifepristone gets struck down by the Supreme Court?”

Murphy answered, “Oh my Lord. I listened to your reporters talk about some of the positions these judges in New Orleans are taking. We’ve gone to the CEOs of both Walgreens and CVS to make sure that we had unencumbered access. We have considered a bulk acquisition. We have clearly joined in legal action as an amicus matter. Everything is on the table, and please, God, it doesn’t come to that, but we will continue to fight it like heck.”

*** end quote ***

Hitler once asked: “How many division does the Pope have?”

SCOTUS has decided that abortion is NOT a Federal issue.  Does Murphy object to that decision too?

So the question asked but unanswered is: When does life begin?  The follow up question is: When does a human being get the rights that our civilization, society, State, community, or person guaranty?

Is it at conception, when they have a heart beat, perhaps when they can survive outside the womb, or as one Libertarian suggested when they can fight and take them?

I don’t know.  But as in most moral questions, as a fat old white guy injineer, I’d draw the line where it appears to be most clear: either maybe at conception or definitely at birth.  All the other lines seem arbitrary.

That’s my opinion.  And I really don’t care what the politicians and bureaucrats think about it.

FWIW!

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) signed “Gun Safety Package 3.0” Tuesday, creating a database of all ammo sold in the state and putting six other new gun controls in place.

NJ.com notes that the legislation also bans .50 caliber rifles, requires “micro-stamping technology” on certain new firearms, and “[makes] it easier to sue gun manufacturers and dealers over gun crimes in the state.”

Murphy referred to the seven new gun laws as “commonsense” and “smart.”

He tweeted a video of himself signing the gun control legislation:

Why does he need this database?

Will it list all the federal purchases.

TRENTON, NJ – As part of his ongoing commitment to meaningfully address the nation’s gun violence crisis, Gov. Phil Murphy on Thursday urged legislators to take action in the coming weeks and pass a comprehensive gun safety legislative package that he initially proposed in April.

The Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerzee already has the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. And, it’s done squat to reduct the toll.

Here’s an idea: ENFORCE THE FELON IN POSSESSION LAWS!

Argh!

Instead of encumbering the hones gun owners, go after the felons who should be in jail.

Argh!
