A lost hiker missing for three weeks in the California mountains miraculously survived when she stumbled upon an unlocked cabin that had been left open by its owner for this exact situation — and was rescued just in time to celebrate her 28th birthday.

Georgia woman Tiffany Slaton found shelter at a closed resort in the eastern Sierra Nevada range after she was initially reported missing on April 29, authorities said.

He typically leaves the cabin doors open while the resort is closed during the off-season in case a wayward hiker needs a place to crash amid harsh weather conditions like blizzards.

“It’s mainly for people, just as this scenario played out, if they need to hole up in there one of shelter then it’s available,” Gutierrez said.

Slaton, who hails from Jeffersonville in the Peach State, told Gutierrez she survived for weeks solely munching on leeks before the resort owner fed her a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

“It was a blizzard, and she pushed through that blizzard, and the first thing she saw was a cabin,” said Gutierrez. “And she held up in the cabin overnight … this girl was saved for the reason.”

Needs more details.

If you leave the cabin unlocked, then you should leave some food and communications gear.

Happy she survived, but the story is incomplete.

Who goes hiking without gear?

Answer: Someone trying to win a “Darwin Award”!

I hope there is some follow up.

SURVIVAL: Get out of bad weather road conditions

100 vehicles involved in Oregon highway pileup in treacherous whiteout conditions

A highway pileup involving 100 vehicles, including big rigs, grinded an Oregon highway to a destructive halt during a nasty whiteout snowstorm Thursday, according to authorities.

The series of crashes caused a SUV fire and closed a part of Interstate-84 where numerous drivers and passengers were trapped in their vehicles late morning, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said.

*** and ***

The conditions were so treacherous the Oregon Department of Transportation closed the highway in both directions between La Grande and Baker City – a stretch of roughly 50 miles between the two cities.

“Closures are due to blowing and drifting snow with visibility less than 500 feet,” the state DOT wrote before later reopening that section.

Lucky that no one was killed or seriously injured.  First rule in survival training was “AWARENESS”.

Did these folks not realize the danger of the weather?

Visibility of less than 500 feet didn’t happen because the weather gods waved a magic wand.  I’ve driven some costal roads, even in Oregon, and fog can be just around the next bend.

At 30 MPH, and 10 second reaction time, you’ve used up your 500 feet.

And, seriously who goes 30?

The other night was a passenger in car and all the drivers in the car thought 15 was fast.  Yet we were being passed by drivers doing far in excess of 50.  No way they could stop on an ice covered road.  Even at 15, we could all feel the slip of the tires on gentle curves.

I guess I’m getting old.  But, I think drivers in the Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerzee are all insane!

VETERANS: Need a better way to “find” dementia sufferers

Missing Korean War vet with dementia found more than 200 miles from home after wife spots 91-year-old on TV

A missing 91-year-old Korean War vet with dementia was found more than 200 miles away from his Wyoming home — when his worried wife spotted him on an evening newscast two days after he wandered off.

Avril Black’s concern was mounting after her spouse Michael Black vanished after he left their Afton home on Nov. 25, leading her to report him missing the next morning, according to a local report.

While authorities reportedly gathered he had hitchhiked his way to Ovid, Idaho, and then traveled down to Garden City, Utah, he was in the wind from there.

I’m glad this hero was not found dead somewhere.  As a society, we need better systems to find individuals who “wander away”.

Air Tags?  Angel Sense devices?  Medical Alert bracelets? Even Tattoos?

I would believe that local police should be the first point of contact.  Amber alerts for the local area could be issued.  Shelters, churches, and vet organizations could be involved.

(When I get a NIXIE alert, I pay attention to it.  Never “found” anyone, but I look when out and about.)

Hopefully, we’ll get better at caring for members of the human race, who through no fault of their own, need help.

ConspiracyTheories: Boeing whistleblower has an “arkancide”?

A Boeing whistleblower was found dead in his truck in the parking lot of his South Carolina hotel after he failed to show up for the second part of his testimony for a bombshell lawsuit against the company, a report said Monday.

John Barnett, 62, had raised safety concerns at the airline’s factories and provided his first testimony just days before he was found dead from an apparent “self-inflicted” gunshot wound, the Charleston County coroner told the BBC.

Isn’t that convenient?

Reminds me of a Clinton “suicide” or three.

But it should have happened before the first day of testimony.

Wonder if there is video?  Maybe mind control.

Sure convenient though.

GUNS: Schools need to be hard targets; not shooting galleries

Mother of Nashville school shooter Audrey Hale shared several gun control posts on social media

The mother of the Nashville school shooter who killed six people — including three 9-year-olds — appeared to be a gun control activist who once urged friends on Facebook to sign a petition calling for keeping firearms out of schools.

“So important!” Norma Hale wrote in a March 8, 2018, Facebook post as she shared the petition to “Keep Guns Out of School” that appeared to be from the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation.

The webpage’s domain to the petition did not appear to exist anymore.

In another post from Feb. 21, 2018, Hale shared another petition from Sandy Hook Promise urging lawmakers to “Make Large-Capacity Gun Magazines Illegal.”

Hale’s adult child, Audrey Hale, carried out Monday’s horrific mass shooting at the Covenant School on Monday morning.

Like the war on drugs, Gooferment seems to deliberately fail at its mission.

Schools should be “hard targets” like a bank.  You don’t hear about “mass shootings” at banks or pawnshops. Hell, my local jewelry store had better security than that school apparently had.  The shooter blew out the glass front doors. Most datacenter are secure by “man trap” entrances.  You don’t just waltz in unchallenged.  Schools in New Jersey require visitors to be admitted; hell, parents don’t even get in without a “pass”.

I feel sad for the parents of all involved.  It’s a cold cruel world out there populated by crazy people and evil doers.  We need to end gun-free zones and reengineer our society to protect itself.

I note that the shooter skipped another target because it “had too much security”.  So while these shooters are evil, they are not stupid.

Argh!

POLITICAL: “We, The Sheeple” are stupid and didn’t punish the crimes of the D’s

Warnock holds off challenge from Walker to win Georgia Senate runoff
By Mark Moore and
David Propper

Democratic US Sen. Raphael Warnock of Georgia beat back a challenge from Republican former NFL star Herschel Walker to win Tuesday’s runoff election for Senate.

Warnock, 53, defeated his Republican rival, 60, to score a full six-year term after winning a special election in January 2021 — with Tuesday’s victory expanding the Dems’ control of the Senate to 51-49.

With the race called Tuesday night by The Associated Press, Warnock held a slim 51.2% to 48.8% lead with 98% of the vote counted.

*** end quote ***

The voters seem to have spoken.

Nothing matters to them: inflation, Hunter Biden, rampant cheating in the past elections, crime, debt, deficit, unfunded mandates, cultural decline, mass illegal immigration, insider trading, corruption of Big Pharma, the endless wars … …

The D’s are rewarded for this.

Hence, I don’t want to hear anyone complain about the results.  You got what you voted for.

From now on, I’ll vote a straight Libertarian ticket; as if that matters in the Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerzee.
