‘Buy one, get one free’ is often a clever way to get you to spend more money

*** begin quote ***

One Burger King diner recently saw the price of her $2.16 sandwich rise to $3.19 per sandwich when she used a buy-one-get-one-free (or BOGO) coupon. Naturally, she became suspicious about how good a deal BOGO really is. This video explains why BOGO deals are a way for companies to get you to spend more money, rather than less.

Yeah, look at the prices carefully.  Most consumers don’t.

My wife buys BOGOs, but only of the stuff we use.  Otherwise, just ignore.

In case where I’ve been to the store, you can sometimes, if the clerks are lazy, see th old price under the BOGO sign.  From this unstatistical (a derived adjective) observational study, you’re usually getting 50% off the second item while paying full price for the first one.

Again, if it’s something you use anyway, with enough shelf life to last until you use it, then it’s a “bargain”.  Otherwise, you’re just a sucker.

Like the beer distributors send pretty young girls to give “free samples” to get you to try “their” brand.  The bar owner raises the prices a buck or two to get some more money from the distributors and any suckers who buy another to keep the girls talking to them.

Sigh!

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Zero the corporate tax rate

Your Penny Toward a Whopper
By James Wilson

*** begin quote ***

I’m angered that Burger King has fled to Canada as a tax shelter. But I’m not angered at Burger King, which has only done what it thinks is best for its shareholders. I am, rather, angered at YOU. It isn’t Burger King that created the HIGHEST CORPORATE INCOME TAX in the world. YOU did that. And I DO NOT CONSENT!

*** end quote ***

“Corporations are merely tax collectors; not taxpayers. They merely pass their costs along.” Lawrence Alan “Larry” Kudlow is an American economist, television personality, and newspaper columnist. August 26, 2014 0830 on WMAL Mornings on the Mall Brian Wilson and Larry O’Connor

Essentially, taxing corporations hides the tax load on individuals. That’s one of the purposes of Big Gooferment is conceal how much tax we individuals are really paying. IF we knew, then the tax revolts would really start.

Add to that, the OTHER taxes that corporations pay (e.g., gas; utility; FICA for employees; “real estate”) also get passed along in their products. So when I go to the supermarket and buy a can of beans, I can’t tell how much of the price is cost of the beans, the cost to put the beans in the can, the cost of getting the can on the shelf, and the taxes paid along the way. It’s incalculable. And you politicians just love it that way.

Also, there is a another hidden layer of taxes buried in that can of beans, all of the costs of capital investment have taxes hidden in. Campbells buys a new machine to put beans in the can; how much in taxes is buried in that cost? Don’t forget the gas tax for the truck that delivered it. All buried.

Even worse is that the result of corporate taxes fall on the poor because they have spend to survive, those on fixed income who should be getting a break, families who have to spend, and the illegals who don’t get the full benefit of the taxes they are paying.

Bottom line: Only “real people” pay taxes.

My bottom line: I believe folks would be in revolt if they really knew how much in taxes they are paying.

Zero the corporate taxes. Cut the size of government.

US government buys 7 million pounds of ‘pink slime’ for America’s children.

*** begin quote ***

Pink slime is when they take all the cow parts left over after everything usable has been removed from a cow, grind it up, sterilize it with ammonium hydroxide (which may not work), then shape it into burgers and other food-like products.

Pink slime is so nasty and controversial even McDonald’s, Burger King and Taco Bell have stopped using it. But a new report says the US government is buying 7 million pounds of it to feed to America’s school children.

Argh!

Everyone who reads my stuff or talk to me knows that I think the Gooferment is the problem.

Anyone doubt that is true after reading this story.

Can there be any redeeming value in “pink slime”?

Sure, if some private company wants to risk their own money to provide a budget product and consumers buy it, then there’s the value.

Unfortunately, when the Gooferment buys you a steak, pink slime is what you get.

Separation of Gooferment from EVERYTHING!
