APPLE IPHOTO doesn’t allow you to …

… easily mange the size of the Photo Library.

And, the backup function is lame. There’s no way to do a backup to an external drive except by doing individual exports.

It would have been trivial to allow it, but they didn’t.

One can only imagine that the decision to implement this way was to drive sales to Time Machine or Mobile Me. Clearly, that might be speculation. But, it fits how I see APPLE. Exploitive. The software is designed and implemented in a way that’s best for APPLE; not the User. imho

IPHOTO is unsuitable for use on the MACBOOKAIR due to limited hard disk space and the software’s inability to compensate for that.

When one imports pictures into IPHOTO from a camera, that is the easiest time to create the external backup.

Remember the Hungarian Revolution? The USA agitated, mostly over VOA, and when the patriots rose up, “America” turned its back. They were slaughtered.

It should be the national foreign policy to keep our collective mouths shut. Any one who want to go fight in Libya, AfPak, Darfur, or where ever, let them go stick their nose in first. Any politicians and / or bureaucrats, who advocate interventionism, get to lead the charge.

That should end that “advice”.

What foreigner in their right mind would ever trust the USA?

MEMORIES: Our Girl was like a big sister to … … everybody?

Dear John-

Thank you so much for sharing this great picture. I’ve forwarded it on to my fashionable siblings. I guess I wasn’t old enough to make the cut for the picture.

I have so many wonderful memories of Ev. I used to love when she would take me for rides in her Covair – boy, did I think I was cool then! Taking me for Italian ice, or a burger and a shake on a Saturday afternoon – I so looked forward to spending time with her. Although I was probably her pesky little cousin, I think Ev actually enjoyed my company and took me places voluntarily – unlike my sister who was forced to take me everywhere she went. Joyce must have loved Ev spending time with me too – it meant she didn’t have to! Joyce told me Ev taught her how to drive and also took her to take her driving test. She was like a big sister to both of us. And like everyone else on 8th Street, Joyce, Jeff and I all learned how to shoot hoops from Cousin Ev. Driving home from her funeral, I remembered something about Ev that I had forgotten all about – When I was a Girl Scout at St. Mary’s, one of the other GS troops was going to Palisades Park. MY troop was not going and I was heartbroken. Two weeks later, guess who took me to Palisades Park?? I think she even brought Patty Ann along for the trip – and maybe you were there too? I have to admit, I was none too pleased when you came on the scene thinking she wouldn’t have time for me anymore, but of course, that was not the case! Not only did she continue to make time for me but fulfilled the dream of every young girl and had me as a “Junior Bridesmaid” in your wedding! I tell you, if I thought I was cool riding in her Covair, THAT just topped it all!!

I hope you are coping okay. I can’t even begin to imagine how difficult it must be. She was such a special person and she just touched so many people with her kindness and love. You are in my prayers and I hope you are able to find some comfort in all the great memories you have of her.

Ahh, the Corvair! No one probably knows that back in the Eighties when we were flush, I offered to buy her a “fun car” like her old Corvair. She wisely said no, “You can NEVER go back to what you were.” Wise woman.

She loved to be around people. So you probably gave her as much joy as you received.

Your going to Palisades Park story doesn’t surprise me. She wanted every child to be happy. No, I wasn’t on the scene yet. Maybe her old boyfriend. She was a “catch” and I know she could have her pick of the litter. And, I know of at least two suitors were unhappy when he took herself “off the market”.

I’d didn’t see any rejection by any of her family. Once I past the “Peg” test, and she was assured of my honorable intentions, she even gave everyone the word that “I was Ev’s choice”. She was the “energizer bunny” and made time for everyone. It wasn’t until she got sick did she have to recognize her limitations. I’m glad you enjoyed the wedding. She put together her “dream wedding”.

Coping? If feels funny not to have medical people to supervise while cajoling her into going along with the “fun”. She did make an impression on one fat young white guy injineer. Two dates and I was “hooked”. Took me a while to sell her on the idea. Even Peg was worried that we were so different. Guess it worked out.

Thanks for the prayers and kind words. I’ll send you invites to the other pictures. I’m scanning and putting up as I can. It’s a sad chore.

Now that’s a “beauty queen”. No one should have to kill a fellow human being. But self-defense here did what all the Gooferment courts could NOT — protect her rights. How does that bumper sticker go “God made man and woman; Sam Colt made them equal”! Florida is catching up on NH for my affection with the Castle Doctrine. (Defend your home and the Gooferment bureaucrats can’t bother you. Nor can the dead guy sue.) “Better judged by 12 than carried by six”.

RANT: Lawrence Taylor — a sad pathetic image of a past idol

Imus roasted him yday. (Rightly so.)

His sidekick whined that Taylor was getting a raw deal.

They played a clip, where Taylor says: “Everybody does it.”

Nope, sorry, I don’t! I have to much respect for the role of women in human civilization.

All that being said, as a little L libertarian, being pro-choice on everything that doesn’t hurt another human being, prostitution could be a victimless crime. If, and only if, the Gooferment took it guns and went home.

Nevada has legal prostitution and you never ever hear anything about it. If Nevada, why not everywhere else.

Consenting adults. Harming no one else.

Just don’t ask me to pay for your problems that arise from it.

Pimps, public prostitution, disease, Johns, and a ton of police hours wasted on attempting to legislate morality and curb the “oldest profession”.

Only the Gooferment could be this stupid!

Spent a lot of time yday making space for the upgrade purported to fix panics.

Had one last night after the upgrande and two today so far.

“Bare metal restore” is looking like my only option.

If I wanted to have these type of problems, I could have stay on windoze.

Outlook’s looking better and better.

SOFTWARE: POSTBOX2 on MACBOOKAIR doesn’t have scheduled send

Sometimes I would like a message to be delayed until tomorrow, next week, or some time next year. I can’t find how to induce POSTBOX2 to do that for me. I know it’s in Outlook. How does a POSTBOX2 User do that?

It would be really nice if POSTBOX2 would handle that very smartly (i.e., wake up when a deferred request triggers and send it) but I could even live with it doing it the next time it is “alive”.

(1) This seems to me to be an OBVIOUSLY needed feature. OUTLOOK does it; I’m no MICROSOFT fan, but they have certain features. It just WINDOZE that sucks.

(2) WINDOZE may suck; MACOSX has its problems too. The question is how much suckiness will you the User tolerate. If you do a real good job of separating your data, your applications, and the OS on a WINDOZE platform, AND IF you do a real good job of managing your WINDOZE OS — slipstreaming fixes into a WINDOZE DISKIMAGE (by like ACRONIS) so you can bare metal restore at the drop of a hat, I’d give the nod to WINDOZE over MACOSX. On to Linux anyone?

(3) The meme of “personal computing” is that you can have your little PLATFORM and it’s “personal”. The new meme of “cloud computing” is nice if you never leave home and you high speed connection to the inet never fails. Once you leave home or if your inet provider is flaky, then cloud computing is challenging at best. Wifi ain’t that ubiquitous or that “free”. If you use the phone as you’re inet gateway, you’re stuck with an expensive “data plan” and find out that “unlimited” doesn’t mean “unlimited”.

(4) Clearly, the applications developers have to design applications that can work either with or without the cloud. I haven’t seen one yet that does.

(5) The regulators are back in 1910 and are (deliberately?) clueless about how companies are ripping the folks off.

(6) I love how developers want the Users to do their work for them. Assuming that “scheduled send” is a valid useful “new idea”. Why ask me, the User, to do your data entry work? That’s down right rude. Do I get paid, or anything, to be your R&D staff? It’s not like this is Open Source Software, where there’s more of a collaboration between developer and User. Argh!

(7) Many enterprises treat the Customer like they are an unpaid staff. The cable and telephone companies come to mind. I may have no choice but to put up your “barbara streisand” now, but there will come a time. Payback is a bitch!
