Growing up as I did in the Cold War, I still experience a special kind of shudder whenever I come across an anecdote like that of Katya Soldak, whose Soviet nursery school teacher once showed her class a photograph clipped from a Western newspaper, “depicting skinny [Russian] children in striped robes walking in a straight line.” The capitalists who printed that picture wanted people to think Soviet children were “treated like prisoners,” the teacher declared angrily, “when in reality the kids were on their way to a swimming pool in their bathrobes.” Which was a nice story (thought little Katya) — except that “I had never even seen a pool…. [T]hey existed in my mind as does an exotic animal or an unvisited city.” A time capsule from a remote dystopia?

On June 4, New Jersey’s Governor Murphy issued his third consecutive extension of what was supposed to be a thirty-day “state of emergency” he had originally declared — unilaterally — on March 9.

What was the “emergency” this time around? In the governor’s own words: “there has now been a decrease in the rate of reported new cases of COVID19 in New Jersey, in the total number of individuals being admitted to hospitals for COVID19, and in the rate of reproduction for COVID19 infections in New Jersey.” Got that? New cases, hospitalizations, even the “rate of reproduction” for the virus are all on the wane throughout Murphy’s jurisdiction. (And have been for months.)

Yet in today’s Newspeak, that’s an “emergency” — enough to justify another month of democracy-free rule by executive fiat.

It seems that the various politicians and bureaucrats have become too big and powerful.

Only the indignation of patriots can put them in their place.

In HELL!

Vote them out.  Impeach them.  Where are Initiative, Referendum, and Recall when you need them?

Anyone remember Hands Across New Jersey and the McGrevey “toilet paper tax”?

Where are today’s patriots?

Let’s not forget about Taylor Swift insisting that any monument honoring “racists” needs to be removed. I wonder if she is talking about the Lincoln Memorial? Honest Abe didn’t have very nice things to say about black Americans.

Swift is stupid, but a typical celebrity, so you expect this nonsense from her crowd.

I enjoyed her early music before she went “big time” and “adult”. I understand that everyone has to grow up.

But “celebrities” should be seen and not heard on politics.

Just because they are “rich”, doesn’t make their opinion any more important than the poor working stiff at the unemployment office. That fellow will at least have their priorities in order.

FUN: Horses’ Asses control almost everything.

This may have been around before, so apologize if a rerun but thought it was both interesting and funny!

(FJR: It has but it’s timeless)


 
Railroad Tracks 

The U.S. Standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet, 8.5 inches.  That’s an exceedingly odd number.  

Why was that gauge used?  

Because that’s the way they built them in England, and English expatriates designed the U.S. Railroads.

Why did the English build them like that?

Because the first rail lines were built by the same people who built the pre-railroad tramways, and that’s the gauge they used.

Why did ‘they’ use that gauge then?

Because the people who built the tram ways used the same jigs and tools that they had used for building wagons, which used that wheel spacing.
 
Why did the wagons have that particular odd wheel spacing?

Well, if they tried to use any other  spacing, the wagon wheels would break on some of the old, long distance roads in England, because that’s the spacing of the wheel ruts.

So, who built those old rutted roads?

Imperial Rome built the first long distance roads in Europe (including England) for their legions. Those roads have been used ever since.

And the ruts in the roads?

Roman war chariots formed the initial ruts, which everyone else had to match for fear of destroying their wagon wheels.

Since the chariots were made for Imperial Rome, they were all alike in the matter of wheel spacing.
 
Therefore, the United States standard railroad gauge of 4 feet, 8.5 inches is derived from the original specifications for an Imperial Roman war chariot.
 
In other words, bureaucracies live forever.
 
So the next time you are handed a specification, procedure, or process, and wonder, ‘What horse’s ass came up with this?’, you may be exactly right.

Imperial Roman army chariots were made just wide enough to accommodate the rear ends of two war horses.

Now, the twist to the story:

When you see a Space Shuttle sitting on its launch pad, you will notice that there are two big booster rockets attached to the sides of the main fuel tank.

These are solid rocket boosters, or SRBs  The SRBs are made by Thiokol at their factory in Utah.
 

 
The engineers who designed the SRBs would have preferred to make them a bit larger, but the SRBs had to be shipped by train from the factory to the launch site.

The railroad line from the factory happens to run through a tunnel in the mountains and the SRBs had to fit through that tunnel.

The tunnel is slightly wider than the railroad track, and the railroad track, as you now know, is about as wide as two horses’ behinds.
 

So, a major Space Shuttle design feature of what is arguably the world’s most advanced transportation system was determined over two thousand years ago by the width of a horse’s ass.

And you thought being a horse’s ass wasn’t important!

Now you know, Horses’ Asses control almost everything.

Explains a whole lot of stuff, doesn’t it??!!

Rescuers Save Baby Lion Who Had His Legs Broken To Take Pictures With Tourists

Recently a sad story about a little lion surfaced on the internet. This adorable lion cub was taken away from his mother when he was only a few months old. He was taken away to be used as a tourist attraction. The horrible people that stole him broke his leg and wounded his spine so that he wouldn’t be able to run away or struggle when tourists took pictures with him.

Strategic Allocation of Coin Inventories

The Federal Reserve is working on several fronts to mitigate the effects of low coin inventories. This includes managing the allocation of existing Fed inventories, working with the Mint, as issuing authority, to minimize coin supply constraints and maximize coin production capacity, and encouraging depository institutions to order only the coin they need to meet near‐term customer demand. Depository institutions also can help replenish inventories by removing barriers to consumer deposits of loose and rolled coins. Although the Federal Reserve is confident that the coin inventory issues will resolve once the economy opens more broadly and the coin supply chain returns to normal circulation patterns, we recognize that these measures alone will not be enough to resolve near‐term issues.

LIBERTARIAN: Statue-toppling, right and wrong – The Boston Globe

How should we decide when it’s appropriate to remove a statue or monument to some person from a public place of honor? I argue for a two-part test: (1) Was that person honored for unworthy or indecent behavior? (2) Is that person known today primarily for unworthy or indecent behavior? When the answer to both is no, the statue or monument should stay.

By that test, every memorial that glorifies leaders and generals of the Confederacy should be hauled away. The cause for which they struggled was the vilest cause in American history: the perpetuation of African slavery. They were extolled because they went to war in defense of human bondage.

With all due respect to a great columnist (IMHO), I disagree.

The War of Northern Aggression was not a “civil war” (i.e., a fight between two factions to control the “country”).

It also was not about slavery.  It was about tariffs being imposed to benefit the Northern States at the expense of the Southern States. 

At a deeper philosophical level, it was about “American nationalism” as opposed to the American republic.

Sorry but this war was a “Second American Revolution” that was the end of the American republic.

So sad that we are on the road to ruin that we were put on when George Washington and the first Congress violated the Constitution as it was “sold” to the various People of the States.  If they had been smarter, the Dead Old White Guys would have never approved the Constitution.

Sigh!

Black Lives Matter supporter carries ‘far-Right’ protester at London Waterloo station | Daily Mail Online

A man identified as a far-right protester has been carried to safety from protestors as animosity was briefly set aside on a day of clashes in London between rival groups and police.

Following violent clashes in Trafalgar Square, Black Lives Matter protestors and some counter protestors headed over the River Thames towards Waterloo Station.

HBO Max is incredible. Not because it is good, but because of how many problems with the media landscape it epitomizes. If you ever had trouble seeing where monopoly, net neutrality, and technology intertwine, well then thanks, I guess, to AT&T for its achievement in HBO Max.

Petraeus didn’t know that Ft. Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina was named for Andrew Jackson, not Thomas J. Jackson.

That’s right. An army four star general (with a Ph.D) was not aware of the history of a major army military installation, but we should listen to this guy, right?

Stupid. But maybe we shouldn’t expect much more from a man who handed classified information to his paramour.

His piece is typical virtue signaling nonsense sprinkled with Yankee Self-Righteous Delusional Disorder and topped with a bit of neoconservative Union worship.
