GOVERNACIDE: … “punish the innocent”?

I do not understand police behavior involving the recent Douglas High School shootings.

The police officer on duty did not go in the building. I would have assumed his first responsibility would have been to confront the attacker.

Two more officers appeared on the scene. They did not go in. The claim is they were told to establish a perimeter and not enter.

In the meantime, people were being killed inside. I have to believe if they did do something, some lives would have been saved. Even one would have justified their engaging the attacker.

The story gets better.

Two members of the Miramar Police Department were in the area. Both detectives, both members of the SWAT team. They immediately responded. What they did when they arrived, I do not know.

They have been suspended. They have been required to surrender their SWAT issued rifles. The reason for the chastisement: They failed to follow protocol by not getting permission from a superior prior to rushing to the scene.

Unusual circumstances call for unusual activity. Initiative becomes the order of the day. Not with the Miramar Police Department, however. The two officers are being punished for doing the right thing.

*** end quote ***

Back in my Wall Street days, there was an oft quoted adage: “Punish the innocent; reward the guilty; and promote the uninvolved.” That’s sure sounds like “punishing the innocent” to me.

There’s no doubt that this was a great example of Gooferment “protection”.

  • Create a gun free zone and have a big soft target rich environment.
  • Ignore the many red flags REPEATEDLY.
  • The Gooferment Skrule bureaucrats don’t prosecute lawbreakers under some absurd policy about breaking the “school to prison pipeline”.
  • Local law enforcement ignoring CRIMINAL FELONY acts by the eventual mass shooter (i.e., assaults; brandishing; threats; menacing).

And the crowning achievement — the FBI TWICE ignores “tips” on a potential “mass school shooter”.

As law-abiding gun owner, why are my RIGHTS under attack?

Does anyone expect the Gooferment to protect you?

You must be delusional.

Mobile Witness

If you are in the area when a situation calls for evidence — such as in the case of dubious behavior or crimes — Mobile Witness can provide a way to record audio and video.

Rather than store this footage on your mobile device, which may be lost, taken, or stolen, recordings can automatically be sent to third-party cloud storage providers including Dropbox and Google Drive.

GUN: Why trust the Gooferment AFTER you allow them to disarm you?

Friday, March 9, 2018

FROM PLAIN OLD FACEBOOK

Josh LawlerMarch 2 at 3:13pm ·

“You’re not going to be able to fight against the government with your AR-15 anyway. They have helicopters and tanks. The 2nd amendment was written when everyone had muskets.”

Let me first kill this argument the easy way, before I get into the history, social commentary, and whatnot. The simple version is that you ain’t gonna find an infantryman, tanker, or pilot willing to open fire on his countrymen. And the cops outside of NY, NJ, and CA ain’t gonna be too keen on jackbooting, either. So good luck controlling an armed populace with a few thousand feds. Moreover, people who make this argument obviously don’t understand guerilla tactics/military strategy. Vietnam, Afghanistan (both against the USSR and US later), and Iraq are perfect examples of why superior firepower is not the deciding factor in a modern war.

“This isn’t a dystopian novel. The government’s not going to start rounding dissenters up just ’cause they outlawed ‘assault rifles’.”

Now then, on to history. Whenever you bring up how dangerous it is to set a precedent of disarming the populace, pro-gun control folks roll their eyes and go, “It’s the 21st century. Do you really think the government’s out to get you? Everything is broadcast worldwide now. Look at these other countries without guns. You’re paranoid.” Let’s examine this with some examples, some of which I’ve discussed prior.

It was just during the Clinton administration that the Serb death squads rounded up Bosnians and machine gunned them into open graves. The Serbs and Croats took turns raping women and children in public to screams so horrifying that one survivor wrote a book about the sound basically driving her to insanity.

In the 70s, Iranian women were wearing skirts, going to public universities, driving cars, and drinking wine. I’m sure plenty of people didn’t think it was realistic that Khomeni and the revolution would turn that nation into a giant human rights violation. I’m sure lots of people said, “Executions in the street? Rape parties? Take off the tinfoil hat, it’s the 70s, man!”

Plenty of Germans rightfully felt like they got hosed after WWI with the Treaty of Versailles. The Nazi party seeked to right those wrongs economically, and restore Germany’s industrial prominence and rights to self-defense. Plenty of Germans in the 30s would’ve surely looked at you like a madman if you’d said the chancellor of the party was going to go on to pull off a 6 million person genocide.

Actually, why am I moving backwards in time? Let’s focus on the now. Let’s keep it topical and relevant to the moment. In the Twitter and livestreaming era, North Korea is still locking people in prison cells too short for them to stand up in, and too narrow for them to lay out in. NBA star Enes Kanter can never see his family again, following Erdogan’s call for his life imprisonment back in Turkey for daring to speak out against him. There is currently an ethnic cleansing occurring in Mynamar – people are being tortured and murdered while you read this sipping your coffee. There are buildings being reduced to rubble over the buried bones of innocent victims in Yemen this very minute.

Despite this, gun control proponents are still incredulous of the idea that a militia formed independent of the government, meant to protect the citizenry is viable. Despite these atrocities that make my spine chill, and my stomach cramp just reading about them, gun control proponents still cannot believe that I’m not willing to submit to the government just because of the disgusting actions of a few maniacs.

I am not without empathy. I do care deeply about massacres like the ones in Parkland, Las Vegas, Orlando, Sandy Hook, and Aurora. But no, I will not surrender to subservience because of those attacks. No government has ever existed in history without attacking its people at some point, and I refuse to be complicit or complacent in allowing it to happen again.

I’ll leave you with a question for the pro gun control side: why is it that the same government that you mistrust and want to restrict for things like racial profiling and corruption can now be trusted to not take advantage of you when you become less capable to fight back if necessary?

HEALTH: What is the impact on health of cell phones?

Thursday, March 8, 2018

https://nutritionfacts.org/video/do-cell-phones-lower-sperm-counts/

Do Cell Phones Lower Sperm Counts?
Michael Greger M.D. FACLM  February 28th, 2018  Volume 40

*** begin quote ***

What is the effect of cell phone radiation on sperm motility and DNA damage?

*** and ***

“Are men talking their reproductive health away?” There have been “unexplained declines in semen quality reported in several countries.” Might cell phones be playing a role, as “[r]adio-frequency electromagnetic radiation from these devices could potentially affect sperm development and function.” The cell phone industry bristles at the “r-word,” radiation, preferring the more innocuous sounding “RF-EMF”s. They do have a point, though, about it being used by snake-oil hucksters of “radiation protection” gadgets. Radiation need not be atomic-bomb gamma rays, but just the warm glow of sunshine on your face; that’s radiation, too. The question is: does the specific type of radiation emitted by cell phones affect male fertility?

After the “World Health Organization…declared that cell phones [could possibly] cause brain cancer,” many folks were like, no problem, I’ll just keep it in my pants and use Bluetooth or something. Away from the brain, but “close to the gonads.” Put all the studies together, including nearly 1,500 semen samples and: “Exposure to mobile phones was associated with reduced sperm motility…and viability…,” though not necessarily sperm concentration.”

*** end quote ***

Ignoring the “cell phone” accidents where the User falls into a fountain or walks into a pole, which are funny. And ignoring the “cell phone” fatalities from their use in cars. What are the “health implications” of using them?

Anytime I’ve seen a woman stuff her cell phone in her bra, I’ve mused about that and breast cancer. I’ve nagged my fiancé about it so much, she doesn’t do it around me.

WRT to men, is it the radiation or the heat that causes the damage? And, what if you use a lap desk — does that provide a sufficient space or barrier to EMF?

And does the wifi cause other problems (i.e., pancreatic or liver cancer)?

Questions beget more and better questions?

I no longer sleep with my cellphone anywhere near my head and it’s usually at least yard away.

In the absence of “fact”, caution is warranted?

INOVATION: No-frills micro hospitals emerge

Wednesday, March 7, 2018

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/02/no-frills-micro-hospitals-emerge-as-a-new-way-to-cut-health-care-costs.html

No-frills micro hospitals with as few as 8 rooms emerge as a new way to cut health-care costs

  • Micro hospitals are emerging in some suburban and urban markets as a backup to community facilities — or in regions where there is not enough demand for full-sized hospitals.
  • Also called neighborhood hospitals, these facilities can provide lower-cost care for patients compared with traditional community hospitals.

*** begin quote ***

Micro hospitals, also called neighborhood hospitals, have cropped up in states such as Nevada, Arizona, Colorado and Texas. Saint Luke’s Health System in Leawood, Kansas, recently opened its own 17,000-square-foot micro hospital, no bigger than an average CVS Health store.

Hennum at Dignity Health St. Rose-Dominican told CNBC these facilities are not meant to replace larger hospitals or emergency rooms but can provide a kinder, more personalized level of care.

Hennum said the micro facilities can treat things like gunshot wounds and high-risk pregnancies, adding patients usually wait no longer than 11 minutes, on average, from entering the door to seeing a doctor.

“We only transfer 5 percent, or sometimes in other locations, 4 percent of our patients,” Hennum told CNBC. “We treat or discharge the vast majority of patients we see. … And we brought additional jobs to our community. I’ve interviewed more than 250 people.”

Larger hospitals still have their place, however. Mega hospitals have the resources to perform intensive and complex procedures whereas micro hospitals tend to be less surgical, Zane told CNBC.

For example, a person experiencing a stroke or in need of certain cancer therapies will be treated by larger facilities or specialized centers, Zane said. Micro facilities can do routine surgical care like a knee replacement that would only require a doctor and an assistant, but nothing like a liver transplant, Zane explained.

*** end quote ***

Finally some “free market” innovation.

Want to bet that the Gooferment diktats interfere with this “trend”.

I’m sure that the SEIU (unions) will oppose these since they are cheaper and have self-described “no frills”.

And the use of digital services should be encouraged. Imagine the savings of not having to transport folks long distances for urgent care. Remember the “golden hour”?

Hope more are created; I think they will save lives.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Gooferment ignores the obvious solution?

It’s been about a month since California wildlife officials started sounding the alarm on nutria, invasive South American rodents that look like enormous, 20-pound rats and have the power to devastate wetlands. They’re making a comeback after being eradicated in the 1970s and have been spotted in Stanislaus, Fresno, Tuolumne and Merced counties so far.

GUNS: Lawrence O’Donnell flubs on gun tactics

Anti-Gunners Think Bullets From Rifles Too Fast To Be Countered With Handguns
Posted at 4:00 pm on February 28, 2018 by Tom Knighton

*** begin quote ***

By now, we know that many of the people who will pontificate on matters of firearms tend to be clueless on actual firearms. They think they know all they need to know, so they opine on the topic and think people should just agree with them because they’re oh-so-very-smart.

However, these oh-so-very-smart people are usually kind of dumb. Or, at the very least, they say some really dumb stuff.

The latest example comes from the current gun debate, where many of us–myself included–are arguing that armed teachers could well counter mass shootings.

It seems that some think handguns simply aren’t enough to counter rifle-wielding madmen.

Every now and again I’m rendered speechless by the lengths the left will go to in order to scare people into compliance when it comes to their ideas about guns.

MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell took the cake when he suggested that anyone wielding a handgun is no match for someone with a rifle because the bullet from rifle travels faster.

*** end quote ***

Argh!

How stupid can you be? But you don’t know you’re being “dumb”, but you should be able to know that you don’t know a lot of stuff. No slam on anyone. No one could possible know everything, or even everything about one thing.

But when you’re a “leader in media” with a big megaphone, you have an obligation to be informed. With experts at their beck and call, why not let someone, who’s an expert on the topic, give their opinion.

It’s dogma that a mass shooter can be rushed when reloading. It’s not hard to envision that a “victim”, with a concealed carry weapon, can use that interval to put a few holes in mass shooter. Unless the mass shooter has trained reloading, there is a good chance it’ll take a few extra seconds and he may jam the weapon.

INTERESTING: Have to update my “strategy” for final Jeopardy

Jeopardy! makes history with first-ever sudden death tiebreaker

*** begin quote ***

Jeopardy! history was made when two contestants competed during the final tournament of Thursday’s episode. While all three of the show’s competitors wrote in wrong submissions for the Channel Islands prompt, Laura and Sarah found themselves in a tie, which led to the first-ever Final Jeopardy! tiebreaker.

The tiebreaker rules were announced in 2016: “If there are two or three players tied for first place after each contestant unveils their Final Jeopardy! response, [host] Alex [Trebek] will present one more category and read the clue. The clue has no dollar value and does not increase the player’s winnings.”

*** end quote ***

I didn’t know they changed the rules.

Personally, I don’t see any reason not to have c0-champions other that to save a few bucks.

Back when you could have them, I thought the leader should wager for a tie unless it was a blow out. This way, two folks would collect.

Now that it’s no longer a possibility, I guess the leader needs to play to win by a buck.

Sigh!

HEALTH: Healthy eating has the potential to not only prevent, but reverse some of our leading causes of death

Food as Medicine | Michael Greger, M.D. | TEDxSedona
Published on Feb 28, 2018

According to the Global Burden of Disease study (the largest study of disease risk factors in history; funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) the #1 cause of both death and disability in the United States is our diet. Cigarettes now only kill about a half million Americans every year, whereas our diet appears to kill hundreds of thousands more. The good news is that means we have tremendous power over our health destiny and longevity. Healthy eating has the potential to not only prevent, but reverse some of our leading causes of death including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure. Why, then, is nutrition not the #1 thing taught in medical school? American physician, author, and speaker on public health issues, particularly the benefits of a whole foods, plant-based diet and the harms of eating animal products. He is a vegan and the creator of NutritionFacts.org. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.

I follow Doc Greger’s advice as best I can. It’s very hard to retain yourself after a lifetime of bad eating. Hopefully, the readers will save themselves a lot of pain and heartache (literally) and try it.

Additionally, participating states will share information about individuals who are prohibited from purchasing or possessing a firearm within each state. The current lack of information-sharing between the four states has prevented state law enforcement agencies from knowing if an individual has attempted to purchase or permit a weapon in a neighboring state, according to Murphy.

*** end quote ***

Correct me if I am wrong, but if a disqualified person even attempts to buy a weapon, they are subject to arrest.

If the state Gooferments would just do their job, then there would be no need for “information sharing”.

I know Virginia had a very aggressive cooperative effort between gun dealers and the State Police having personally witnessed two arrests for attempted purchases by DQed individuals while I was at the gun range. The dealer’s employee said that they had cooperated with the State Police on numerous occasions. All that was required was that the Federal Instacheck system be operational; he didn’t have a high opinion on it’s reliability. That dealer had a policy of not making delivery of a gun if the system was down. If fact, when it was up, he called folks to come in and pick up their orders. I also say them refuse to sell a gun to individuals on numerous times for various reasons but mostly on “qualification” — one that I overheard was the individual tell the sales guy that the buyer had never held a gun before, the sales guy called the owner over,  and the dealership owner insisted he take a free NRA class before he would sell him a gun. I was very impressed with their policy and diligence. The disappointed owner left. Owner said to the clerk: “Accident waiting to happen but not on my conscience.”

FWIW.

I’ve stopped advocating for gun rights with folks who don’t know the issues. All I do now is share the meme:

INNOVATION: innovations helping homeless people around the world

Sunday, February 25, 2018

8 incredible innovations helping homeless people around the world

*** begin quote ***

Homelessness is widespread and hard to solve, affecting more than 560,000 people in the U.S. and hundreds of millions around the world.

It’s a complex and intractable problem, with countless agencies and nonprofits working to tackle root causes and provide systemic solutions. But while there may not be a one-size-fits-all formula for homeless people in every community, technology and innovation can help fill in the gaps.

Gadgets, apps and prototypes are temporary fixes, of course — we need to tackle poverty, lack of affordable housing, unemployment and more to truly arrive at solutions. But in the meantime, innovations can offer much-needed support to some of the world’s most vulnerable populations.

From a winter coat that takes contactless donations in Amsterdam to commercial shower trailers that offer hygiene and dignity in San Francisco, these eight inventions think outside the box when it comes to the issue of homelessness.

1. The EMPWR coat

The Empowerment Plan, a Detroit-based nonprofit that aims to lift people out of poverty and homelessness through employment, created an innovative coat that doubles as a sleeping bag and an over-the-shoulder bag for homeless populations.

The EMPWR coat is a durable, water-resistant jacket made of Cordura fabric from workwear company Carhartt, upcycled automotive insulation from General Motors, and materials from other donors. It costs $100 to “sponsor” a coat, distributed to those in need.

EMPWR coats have been donated across 40 states in the U.S., seven Canadian provinces and a few other countries around the world, according to the Empowerment Plan website.

*** end quote ***

While personally I doubt that Gooferment “agencies” will ever “solve” homelessness”, I admire when the “private sector” gets into the solutions.

This is another Gooferment-created problem — zoning, licensing, inflation, closing the psychiatric hospitals “streeting” the mentally ill, and other Gooferment “programs” / “services” — that the Gooferment doesn’t want to solve. (What will the politicians and bureaucrats do if there are no “homeless” to need their “help”?)

Like Habitat For Humanity, I’d hope that the “tiny homes” revolution could become the answer to the homelessness “epidemic”. I can envision that a 50’s style development of cheap track housing developed for the returning ww2 and Korean veterans but rows of tiny houses with shared access roads. Put them around hospitals and clinics.

Tiny homes seem to be in the 20K$ range quantity one; I can’t imagine what they would cost in quantity “lots”.

Hope that idea gets a try. It’d be better then the homeless “encampments” that spring up.

GOVERNACIDE: The opioid “epidemic” has the Gooferment’s “fingerprints” all over it

How To Kill 300,000 Americans (And Get Away With It)
by Tyler Durden
Sun, 02/18/2018 – 11:26
Authored by Trey Goff via The Mises Institute

*** begin quote ***

If someone wanted to kill 300,000 Americans and get away with it, they could not have accomplished it more effectively than our government has accomplished it with the opioid epidemic.

If someone— let’s say good old Uncle Sam—wanted to kill 300,000 Americans, they would go about it as detailed in this step-by-step guide. This also just so happens to be precisely how our government did go about it.

Step 1 – In 1996, Uncle Sam would award a 17-year government patent monopoly to Purdue Pharma to be the exclusive supplier of OxyContin, an addictive and potentially deadly opioid painkiller. This would ensure that they had a massive multi-billion-dollar profit incentive to get as many people addicted as possible without any generic competition to keep this profit motive in check.

Step 2 – To further fuel the use of OxyContin, Uncle Sam would cover the cost of it through Medicaid and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). This would ensure that there were billions of dollars available to fund the purchase of massive quantities of the addictive and potentially deadly substance.

*** and ***

Step 16 – After vast numbers of Americans had switched to injection drug use and street heroin, and were using drugs alone and unsupervised, Uncle Sam would then make the street drugs as deadly as possible.Uncle Sam would do this by “cracking down” on the supply side of heroin, knowing full well that illegal drug manufacturers would respond by making their drugs ever more potent, or finding ultra-potent additives to substitute into their street drugs to decrease the size and weight of the trafficked substance (this is known as the Iron Law of Prohibition). That would ensure that heroin was laced with fentanyl (a substance 100 times more potent than morphine) and that eventually fentanyl was replaced by the even more potent carfentanil (a substance 10,000 times more powerful than morphine). Uncle Sam would then ban drug checking under drug paraphernalia laws, ensuring users had no idea if the substance they were about to use was laced with fentanyl. With each increase in potency and adulteration, the death rate would continue to climb higher, and higher, and higher.

There you have it: the perfect guide to killing at least 300,000 people and getting away with it. It is an absolute tragedy that this also happens to be the precise course of action the US government has taken over the past few decades to create this perfect storm of addiction and death.

*** end quote ***

This is just Yet Another Example of “Gooferment creates a problem, “fixes it”, and creates new / worse problems; that in turn makes new problems that “only” the Gooferment can fix”!

When will “We, The Sheeple” learn that the Gooferment — at any level — doesn’t care about problems or “Unintended Consequences”.

Easy answer, end the “(pseudo) War on (some) Drugs” and treat drug addiction as a MEDICAL problem; not a legal one.

LIBERTY: Political veganism is just an another attempt at centralize oppression by Gooferment

Get Ready for the War on Meat
By José Niño

*** begin quote ***

Plant-based diets, especially vegan diets, seem to be all the rage these days.

Based on the practice of eschewing animal products, veganism has attracted a broad coalition of interest groups — ranging from animal rights to environmental activists — who believe that veganism is the most ethical and sustainable way of promoting human health and animal welfare.

At first, these appear to be reasonable premises for an alternative lifestyle that challenges the dietary status quo.

But when placed under the microscope, the modern vegan movement has shown signs of increased politicization and a tendency to mesh with socialist causes.

*** and ***

Health arguments aside, the real issue at hand in these discussions is control. Taking a page from their environmentalist ilk, vegans constantly rely on alarmist tactics to advance their cause. And this agenda consists of more than just educational campaigns — it involves using a strong centralized state to carry out their dietary vision.

To achieve this zealous plant-based vision, these actors will ultimately have to control and regulate the means of production of meat. The US government already wields tremendous power over food through the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA). These agencies, with pressure from anti-meat activists, can be used as vehicles to implement one-size-fits-all policies.

Central planning of this sort forms the bedrock of socialism and the latest anti-meat crusades represent another ambit that socialists will exploit in order to gain more traction. At its core, political veganism is the same fundamental philosophy but with different cosmetic features.

*** end quote ***

While I agree with the “plant-based diet” recommendation, it’s should be just that — a RECOMMENDATION.

The second that anyone urges that the coercive force of the Gooferment — at any level or to any degree — then I oppose it completely.

If anything is “the next great idea”, then why do we need to force people to do it?

Leave people along. If a meme is so good or a paradigm is so obvious, then force is NEVER required.

GUNS: Gun-violence restraining orders (GVROs) seem like a good idea

POLITICS & POLICY
A Gun-Control Measure Conservatives Should Consider
By DAVID FRENCH
February 16, 2018 4:02 PM

*** begin quote ***

Gun-violence restraining orders (GVROs) make us all safer while empowering the individual and protecting liberty. To understand the American gun-control debate, you have to understand the fundamentally different starting positions of the two sides. Among conservatives, there is the broad belief that the right to own a weapon for self-defense is every bit as inherent and unalienable as the right to speak freely or practice your religion. It’s a co-equal liberty in the Bill of Rights, grounded not just in the minds of the Founders but in natural law.

Against this backdrop, most forms of gun control proposed after each mass killing represent a collective punishment. The rights of the law-abiding are restricted with no real evidence that these alleged “common sense” reforms will prevent future tragedies in any meaningful way.

*** and ***

While there are various versions of these laws working their way through the states (California passed a GVRO statute in 2014, and it went into effect in 2016), broadly speaking they permit a spouse, parent, sibling, or person living with a troubled individual to petition a court for an order enabling law enforcement to temporarily take that individual’s guns right away. A well-crafted GVRO should contain the following elements (“petitioners” are those who seek the order, “the respondent” is its subject):

  • It should limit those who have standing to seek the order to a narrowly defined class of people (close relatives, those living with the respondent);
  • It should require petitioners to come forward with clear, convincing, admissible evidence that the respondent is a significant danger to himself or others;
  • It should grant the respondent an opportunity to contest the claims against him;
  • In the event of an emergency, ex parte order (an order granted before the respondent can contest the claims), a full hearing should be scheduled quickly — preferably within 72 hours; and
  • The order should lapse after a defined period of time unless petitioners can come forward with clear and convincing evidence that it should remain in place.

*** end quote ***

While I would open up the “narrowly defined class of people” to include neighbors and others with direct knowledge and / or concern.

A road rage victim, someone threatened on social media, someone who sees “something” on social media should all be permitted.

If they are willing to use their own time, money, and resources to make a case before a Judge, then they should be heard.

Frivolous actions should be sanctioned for those who misuse the process; like the SLAP stuff for those who file frivolous lawsuits.

The judge should be able to be able to set the time period for the sanction to apply.

The  judgment should be quickly registered to prevent acquisition, a warrant issue, to search for the defendant’s weapons in “all the usual places”, and seize any found. To be returned when the order lapses.

Seems like a good idea to me.

It’s an adversarial process where defendant has rights.

INTERESTING: Big Pharma’s role in school shootings and other killings?

The Missing Link
By Brian Wilson
February 17, 2018

*** begin quote ***
And so it begins…another shooting, another school, another student with a grudge and a gun, another body count and another 72 hours of MSM 24/7 Redundant Coverage featuring the same cast of media, political, social media and law enforcement “experts” showcased on the Evening News with the tears of relatives and near-victims, sotto –voice anchor interviews of “how do you feel…?” and “what was it like…?”, surrounded by non-stop re-runs of every cell phone vid available providing it shows at least a whif of the Horror From Within.

Once the essential Who, What, Where and When facts are announced (49 seconds, tops), more bloviating follows in the form of conjecture, idealistic rhetoric and hypotheticals mixed with predictable mis- and disinformation intended to fortify a political agenda. Out come the Same Old Same Old “solutions” that either violate the Constitution or other (HIPPA) laws or cost incalculable amounts of unavailable revenue and “political will”.

Eventually, the tragedy tails out in a cloud of “Why’s” and “If Only’s” – until the next time.

Rinse. Repeat. The script writes itself.

The Missing Link – Pragmatic Answers – remain hidden. The only tangible results are in the heart-breaking frustration of the survivors and snarky political points scored by the Usual Suspects who come out their holes to claim a few minutes of Fame.

*** and ***

Consider the following history:

Eric Harris age 17 (first on Zoloft then Luvox) and Dylan Klebold aged 18 (Columbine school shooting in Littleton, Colorado), killed 12 students and 1 teacher and wounded 23 others, before killing themselves. Klebold’s medical records have never been made available to the public.

<<< FOLLOWED BY A LIST OF ANOTHER 36 EXAMPLES >>>

“Three-fourths of the population of the United State is taking psychotropic drugs. But all we focus on are guns. Violence is built into the very nature of popular culture. Entertainment? Violent. Rap music? Violent. It’s all around us. We in the US tend to ignore these matters and look at one issue: guns. But it’s not just guns, it is an environment where violence is promoted.”

*** and ***

When you ingest your next full helping of ABCCBSNBCCNNFOX News, observe the number of commercials for Viagra, SeeAlice, Lipizzaner, FaithandBegorium and a medicine chest full of other strangely named pills and liquids with Warning Disclaimers speed-read by the off-stage announcer. Do you think Pfizer (Prozac, Zoloft, Xanax), Paxil, Wellbutrin (GlaxoSmithKline), Ritalin (Novartis), Lexapro (Forest), Luvox (Abbott Labs) , Ambien (Sanofi) would appreciate having their advertising dollars spent on reporting they may be the manufactures of certain medications occasionally having serious anti-social side-effects on young patients? Similarly, would health care providers and their doctors want similar exposure?

While there is an understandably strong public resistance to having personal medical records revealed to an over-reaching government in order to exercise the basic human right to bear arms, there may be a more acceptable way for the prospective firearms purchaser and his/her doctor to acknowledge any prescribed psychotropic medications. Ignoring the information will go a long way in failing to find a workable solution that everyone wants: protection of freedom and the innocent without sacrificing either. Right now, none of the old worn-out “solutions” are workable or acceptable in what is purported to be a “Free Society”.

Let the discussion begin. This time let’s include the previously Missing Link.

*** end quote ***

I want to know if there is another more proximate cause than “guns” in all these disasters.

Why can’t we know the pharmacological and psychiatric records of these criminals. Could it be that Big Pharma has “bloody hands”?

Who knew what and when?

Perhaps being on these drugs should disqualify that person from not only guns, but their freedom?

Remember the criteria, “a danger to themselves or others”?

Maybe the bumper sticker should read: “Guns don’t kill people; antidepressants do!”?

POLITICAL: Pocahontas or Fauxahontas?

Elizabeth Warren Lies About Her Heritage Again at Tribal Nations Summit: ‘My Mother’s Family Was Part Native American’
by MICHAEL PATRICK LEAHY 14 Feb 20187,325

*** begin quote ***

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has once again made the false claim that she has Native American ancestry.
“My mother’s family was part Native American,” she said in a speech to the National Congress of American Indians Tribal Nations Policy Summit in Washington, D.C, on Wednesday, according to prepared text provided to the Boston Globe.

*** and ***

“The New England Historical Genealogical Society, which originally announced they found evidence of Elizabeth Warren’s Native American heritage, said today they have discovered no documentation to back up claims that she is 1/32 Cherokee,” the Boston Herald reported in May 2012.

The Herald reported:

‘NEHGS has not expressed a position on whether Mrs. Warren has Native American ancestry, nor do we possess any primary sources to prove that she is,” said Tom Champoux, spokesman for the NEHGS. “We have no proof that Elizabeth Warren’s great great great grandmother O.C. Sarah Smith [Crawford] either is or is not of Cherokee descent.’”
As Breitbart News reported, Warren does descend from O.C. Sarah Smith Crawford’s husband, Jonathan Crawford, who was a member of the Tennessee Militia that rounded up Cherokee tribe members in the 1830s for the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma.

“You won’t find my family members on any rolls, and I’m not enrolled in a tribe,” Warren conceded, but added, ” I never used my family tree to get a break or get ahead. I never used it to advance my career.”

As Breitbart News reported previously, however, beginning in 1986 and continuing into 1995, Warren claimed that she had minority status in the Association of American Law Schools directory.

Those claims began while she was a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and were part of her job application submitted that ended in her hiring on the faculty of Harvard Law School.

*** end quote ***

How do you know when a politician is lying?

Aside from her wacky lunatic left ideas and proposals, this claim needs to “have a stake put in its heart”.

She clearly used “minority status” to advance her career.

We can, and should, eliminate all the “minority preferences” in the Gooferment as unConstitional.

End Gooferment Skrules and we’ll have solved the probem once and for all.

Who cares what “minority” anyone is? We’re all minorities in some way or another.

Just give each other the respect, freedom, and liberty to each other that we want for ourselves.

HEROIC: An ER doc is a hero imho

How One Las Vegas ED Saved Hundreds of Lives After the Worst Mass Shooting in U.S. History
By KEVIN MENES, MD, JUDITH TINTINALLI, MD, MS and LOGAN PLASTER ON NOVEMBER 3, 2017

*** begin quote ***

The night that Stephen Paddock opened fire on thousands of people at a Las Vegas country music concert, nearby Sunrise Hospital received more than 200 penetrating gunshot wound victims. Dr. Kevin Menes was the attending in charge of the ED that night, and thanks to his experience supporting a local SWAT team, he’d thought ahead about how he might mobilize his department in the event of a mass casualty incident.

This is his story, as told to Judith Tintinalli, MD, MS
Edited by Logan Plaster

I’m a night shift doc. My work week is Friday to Monday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Most people don’t want to work those shifts. But that’s when most of the action comes in, so that’s when I work. It was a Sunday night when the EMS telemetry call came in to alert Sunrise Hospital of a mass casualty incident. All hospitals in Las Vegas are notified in a MCI to prepare for incoming patients.

*** end quote ***

Here’s something to read and put you in awe of an American Hero.

His preparatory thinking saved a lot of lives.

I hope all the “health industry” politicians and bureaucrats take note of his “lessons learned”.

Makes me wish I’d have become a doc.

GUNS: Solutions for school and other shootings

Sunday, February 18, 2018

FROM THE WALL STREET JOURNAL “The 10-Point”

*** begin quote ***

Classroom Massacre

A South Florida high school became the latest scene of a deadly mass shooting in the U.S. after a gunman opened fire at the end of the school day, leaving 17 people dead and more than a dozen injured. The suspect, who is in custody, is 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, a former student who had been expelled for disciplinary reasons, police said. Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said the suspect had “countless” gun magazines and one “AR-type rifle.” The victims include both students and teachers, the sheriff said. Twelve people were killed inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., and three outside the school. Two others died at the hospital. The Florida school shooting is the deadliest since the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., where 20 children and six adults were killed. It is the third-deadliest school shooting in modern U.S. history, after Sandy Hook and Virginia Tech. One parent, who reached his daughter on the phone as the shooting unfolded, said: “She’s 14 years old and she had to see multiple dead bodies….It’s something that you hear about all the time, and you never think it will happen to you.”

*** end quote ***

Now that a little time has past, here’s my “solutions”.

  • “Gun-free zones” are nothing more than “Target rich environments”. End them!
  • Arm any teacher, bureaucrat, or custodial person interested.
  • Screen the students for “wackos”.
  • Study the relationship between these events and the drugs given to young men.
  • Surveil “social media” sites for young men with weapons fetishes.
  • “Harden” the Gooferment Skrules.
  • Implement “Constitutional Carry” like in Vermont.
  • Pass “National Reciprocity”; just like “drivers’ licenses”.
  • Enforce the existing laws & enforce prison terms like “felon in possession”, “straw purchases”, and “attempted purchases by disqualified persons” with NO plea deals! (DJT45 should be leaning on the various Deputy Attorneys around the country for regular reports on their results.)

Argh!

# – # – # – # – #

FROM LUDDITE:

You can screen for wackos like your blog says, but then what do you do?  You can’t arrest or detain them….and that certainly would go against your libertarian civil liberties.  I’m not sure there is a defense for this stuff…at least on that vein.

[JR: You most certainly can “detain” them as “threat to themselves and others”. All States have a 72 hour hold. And, an adversarial court finding would bar them from purchasing firearms under the current laws.]

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: The Gooferment needs to be the referee of a level playing field

Saturday, February 17, 2018

Big Batteries Are Taking a Bite Out of the Power Market
Batteries charged by renewable energy are nibbling at power plants that generate extra surges of electricity during peak hours
By Russell Gold
Feb. 12, 2018 5:30 a.m. ET

*** begin quote ***

Overall, it still generally costs 35% more today to provide extra power via a battery compared with a conventional peaker plant, according to energy analysts at SSR LLC. But they estimate that batteries will be less expensive by 2024. Batteries, they add, are better suited to replace peaker plants in warmer areas than in colder climates, where winter peaks can last for longer than four hours.

*** and ***

The American Petroleum Institute, a lobbying group that represents natural-gas producers, applauds batteries but believes they should compete on a level playing field. Storage projects, when paired with renewable energy, currently qualify for a 30% federal investment tax credit, which was left intact in the recent tax overhaul.

“It appears that battery technology is now ready to compete in the market. This means the financial support provided by governments intended to encourage the development and deployment of the technology can be eliminated,” an Institute spokesman said.

*** end quote ***

The Gooferment should not have special tax breaks for their “favorite” Crony Capitalists.

In this case, let solar power stand or fall on its own merits.

Look at the computer marketplace, the “invisible hand” of the truly free market will deliver benefits to everyone without help from the politicians and bureaucrats taking a cut.

GUNS: An “interesting definition” of “school shootings”

Friday, February 16, 2018

Fact Check: Pro-Gun Control Liberals Spread Misleading Claim of 18 School Shootings so Far in 2018
by AWR HAWKINS 14 Feb 2018

*** begin quote ***

In the wake of the heinous attack on Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, pro-gun control liberals spread the misleading claim that there have already been 18 school shootings in 2018.

*** and ***

For example, in Everytown for Gun Safety’s breakdown of the alleged shootings, it is evident that eight of the 18 incidents did not result in any injuries or fatalities. Of the remaining 10 alleged shootings, Everytown lists two as an “attempted or completed suicide, with no intent to injure other person.” One of the suicides occurred in the bathroom of an Arizona school and the second in the parking lot of a Michigan school. No one else was injured in either incident.

Of the remaining eight incidents, Everytown lists one as a “gun fired unintentionally.” Of the remaining seven, where a gun was fired to harm others, at least one of the incidents was a single shot fired following an early morning fight at Wake Forest University. One shooting happened outside a Louisiana high school resulting in a 14-year-old receiving an “superficial” wound, and another resulted in a 15-year-old girl being wounded by a 16-year-old boy.

When suicides, accidental discharges, purposeful shootings without injuries, and purposeful shootings with only “superficial” wounds are counted as school shootings on par with the attack on Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School or Columbine, then we have reached a point when the phrase “school shootings” can connote anything.

*** end quote ***

How can we have an honest discussion when “interesting definitions” are used?

It’s really counter-productive and does nothing to advance our understanding.

Argh!

OPINION
Peeling back the layers of Hillary Clinton’s deceit
By Michael Goodwin
February 10, 2018 | 10:20pm

*** begin quote ***

For law enforcement, Congress and even journalists, exposing misdeeds is like peeling an onion. Each layer you remove gets you closer to the truth.

So it is with the scandalous behavior of the FBI during its probe into whether President Trump’s campaign conspired with Russia in 2016. One layer at a time, we’re learning how flawed and dirty that probe was.

A top layer involves the texts between FBI lawyer Lisa Page and her married lover, Peter Strzok, the lead agent on the Hillary Clinton e-mail probe. They casually mention an “insurance policy” in the event Trump won the election and a plan for Strzok to go easy on Clinton because she probably would be their next boss.

*** and ***

Thus, the Democratic nominee paid for and created allegations against her Republican opponent, gave them to law enforcement, then tipped friendly media to the investigation. And it is almost certain FBI agents supporting Clinton were among the anonymous sources.

*** end quote ***

Sad to say, the “truth” will come out in dribs and drabs.

Far beyond the average voter to track.

It would be useful if the “Big Media” was honest enough to even pretend to care.

TECHNOLOGY: Web 3.0 — the dWeb — will transform the inet again?

Why the Web 3.0 Matters and you should know about it

*** begin quote ***

How will it work?

Like any emerging technology is still being refined. For access to the decentralized web, people will only need a seed. This will be a single asset which enables the interaction with dApps and other services. Individuals will still use a web browser to access the internet, and visually it will be Web 2.0 user-friendly.

On the surface, the learning curve from 2.0 to 3.0 will be gentle. But behind the scenes, the framework connecting users with digital services are markedly different. Transactions are signed and verified manually, to prevent platforms from siphoning away personal information without due cause. Web users will opt in rather than trying — and often failing — to opt out.

  • Instead of Google Drive or Dropbox, we have services like Storj, Siacoin, Filecoin or IPFS technology to distribute and store files.
  • Instead of Skype we have platforms like Experty.io.
  • Instead of WhatsApp and Wechat we have Status
  • Instead of operating systems such as iOS and Android, frameworks such as Essentia.one and EOS provide a gateway to the new web.
  • Akasha or Steemit will play the role of Facebook, the Brave browser will serve as Chrome and Ethlance can take over from Upwork.
