How does Naymz work?

Naymz has built a proprietary technology which “speaks” to the advertising platforms of the search engines. Naymz relies on paid search advertising to post your personal listing. Paid search advertising is also know as “Sponsored Links” in Google, “Sponsor Results” on Yahoo, and “Sponsored Sites” on MSN Search. Naymz pays all variable fees charged by the engines directly, and subscribers pay Naymz a flat fee. Naymz automatically links your listing to the profile portal page which you create.

What is a Trufina Identity Card?

Your Verified Trufina Identity Cards are customizable views of information about you that you share with others. Think of it as an electronic version of your driver’s license. Since it is customizable, you can restrict what verified information you show to others. Want to show your city but not your home address? Or prove your age to someone without revealing your full name? You can create multiple credentials for various situations, such as online dating, reputation management, or buying and selling goods through online auctions or classifieds. You control who sees which cards, and nobody can view your ID card without your permission.

TECHNOLOGY: BLOGDESK and WORDPRESSDOTCOM

Thursday, November 15, 2007

This morning, BLOGDESK started to time out when it was attempting to update the free, and unequaled, wordpressdotcom. Now there are a lot reasons: netowrk, software on each end of the wire, or the rain. :-) I can’t point the finger yet. But, you can be sure when I can, I will!

Update: As of 1400 est, it’s all working. I don’t know who to blame. But since it’s still raining, I’ll have to allow the Intelligent Designer off the hook. All others, I have my eye on you! Argh!

TECH SERVICE: Purchased MLB Game Downloads ?

If You Purchased MLB Game Downloads Before 2006, Your Discs/Files Are Now Useless; MLB Has Stolen Your $$$ And Claims “No Refunds”

*** begin quote ***

2nd Update: Baseball Think Factory has publicized the discussion.

Update: Just got off the phone with a MLB customer service supervisor.

“MLB no longer supports the DDS system” that it once used and so any CDs with downloaded games on them “are no good. They will not work with the current system.”

Great. Just effing great. … As I told the supervisor, this is right in line with how wrong-headed and stupid and ass backwards MLB does everything.

I was told there is absolutely nothing MLB can do about these lost games. Plus, they said my purchases were all “one-time sales” and thus “there are no refunds”.

No refunds? As Lee Elia would say: “My ******* ass!”

My info has been submitted to some other MLB department which will review things and see what they can do about either getting me the games I paid for or refunding my $280.45.

So if you have downloaded any games prior to 2006, get those discs out and try to watch them … then call MLB at 866-800-1275 and demand they refund your money.

Hence, my policy, no drm ever. Period. No excuse. No way; no how!

Hushmail Privacy Limits Revealed
Significant difference in java, non-java versions
01:20PM Friday Nov 09 2007 by Karl

***Begin Quote***

Hushmail offers encrypted e-mail services for the paranoid and/or privacy conscious. The company uses cryptographic and encryption protocols OpenPGP and AES 256 to scramble the contents of messages stored on their servers. According to the company, “not even a Hushmail employee with access to our servers can read your encrypted e-mail, since each message is uniquely encoded before it leaves your computer.”

However, Wired News’s threat level blog notes that this protection only goes so far. The blog notes that one version of the company’s platform contains a loophole that allows law enforcement to request un-encrypted messages en masse, defeating the purpose for some of the service’s regular clientelle:
A September court document (.pdf) from a federal prosecution of alleged steroid dealers reveals the Canadian company turned over 12 CDs worth of e-mails from three Hushmail accounts, following a court order obtained through a mutual assistance treaty between the U.S. and Canada.

OK, Plaxo has limits. So, I’m trying to wrestle out a new strategy and tactics to get around the limits.

Argh!

I took my outlook alumni file (6k), exported it, imported it into gmail, and then imported that into Plaxo30/Comcast.

Looks like it took. No all of my fields but name and email.

Good enough?

Now it will be interesting to see the sync process?

TECHNOLOGYSERVICE: Microsoft Wants Your Health Records

Microsoft Wants Your Health Records
Its new service will store your data in one place—and search ads could make it pay

***Begin Quote***

Step into a medical office, and you’re faced with a paradox of modern medicine. Just beyond the receptionist’s desk are all sorts of cutting-edge medical technology. Computed tomography scanners. Electrocardiogram machines. Bone densitometers.

But as you approach that desk to check in, you take a trip back in time. There the receptionist hands you a clipboard of forms. For the umpteenth time you fill in your name, age, allergies, medical history, and the like. For all the medical breakthroughs created by technology, medical records remain an anachronism.

***End Quote***

“We can trust Microsoft to keep our health data secure? — Right!” — Luddite

You’ll be surprised to know that I signed myself and Frau up for the service. I haven’t loaded any data yet, but I’m planning to.

Why?

I can hear it all the way from here.

Because, it would have been, and would be useful, in various circumstances.

If I had been more on the ball, then her experience at Pton Hospital where they really screwed her up, might not have happened, or been well documented.

One of the reasons I went to those corny “frau med alert” email was to keep a chronology clear in my head and establish a trail.

I’ve tried several similar services and they either folded, got lost, or were cumbersome. I’m always willing to try stuff if I can see a benefit. No matter how obscure.

Anyway, it might be useful in an emergency, or in litigation.

Besides the insurance companies, the hospitals, and the gooferment already have it all keyed to SSN, how much worse could MSFT make it?

imho!

Hello,

We are sorry but the notes are sent from a generic email address note@note2email.com) therefore, displaying the replay to the sender is not available right now. Basically if someone replies to a note that was sent via note2email.com, that reply will only get in the note2email.com inbox  and will not be redirected in any way to the sender.

We are currently working on a mechanism that shows the status of a note and displays the content of any replies.

Thank you for using our service ,
We will keep you posted.

Lessons Learned: I need a service that notifies others who could help me.

So where is www dot if I am off line dot com?

If could be as simple as a flurry of emails that go out, if I don’t reset the clock. Say, every X hours.

For a inet o holic like me, it could be every twelve hours. If I don’t check in, send the emails out.

I’ll offer the service for 29.99 per month and stuff ads in the emails and on the websites.

TECH SERVICE: Microsoft updates Windows without users’ consent

Monday, September 24, 2007

FROM A WINDOWS SECRETS EMAIL

Microsoft updates Windows without users’ consent
By Scott Dunn

***Begin Quote***

Microsoft has begun patching files on Windows XP and Vista without users’ knowledge, even when the users have turned off auto-updates.

Many companies require testing of patches before they are widely installed, and businesses in this situation are objecting to the stealth patching.

Files changed with no notice to users

In recent days, Windows Update (WU) started altering files on users’ systems without displaying any dialog box to request permission. The only files that have been reportedly altered to date are nine small executables on XP and nine on Vista that are used by WU itself. Microsoft is patching these files silently, even if auto-updates have been disabled on a particular PC.

It’s surprising that these files can be changed without the user’s knowledge. The Automatic Updates dialog box in the Control Panel can be set to prevent updates from being installed automatically. However, with Microsoft’s latest stealth move, updates to the WU executables seem to be installed regardless of the settings — without notifying users.

When users launch Windows Update, Microsoft’s online service can check the version of its executables on the PC and update them if necessary. What’s unusual is that people are reporting changes in these files although WU wasn’t authorized to install anything.

***End Quote***

Yup, just like Darth Vader. And you wonder why I’m departing the Microsoft fold?

TECH SERVICE: WORDPRESSDOTCOM has a tiny flaw

Friday, September 14, 2007

I love the free, and unequaled, wordpressdotcom, but I found a small flaw.

In building a site on GOOGLEPAGES, it just so happened that the page urls all routinely end in a period. However, when I put that url into the free, and unequaled, wordpressdotcom, it barfs building that link with the last period. Interesting. For the time being, my workaround is to use TUNYURL.

But I have to wait for Monday to report it to wordpress hq. They turn off the problem reporting mechanism to prevent Monday morning overload. I’m blogging it here because I always forget by Monday.

The 1.3 million individuals whose data, including financial information, was stolen from Monster’s database may be larger than initially reported.

During the investigation regarding the theft, it was discovered that the website had been previously hacked. The exact number is still unknown, but could reportedly be in the millions. Monster has indicated that users should assume their information has been taken. As this wasn’t an isolated incident, the illegal activity has been impossible to pinpoint. Monster has lost between 200 and 300 job seekers and some employers’ accounts due to the issue.

Hello,

Your suggestion is much appreciated, and we have forwarded your note to the Bloglines Beta team.

Over the years we have modified our site based on feedback like yours and from other Blogliners. Look for changes in the upcoming weeks and months, as we continue to build-out Bloglines Beta. We welcome your thoughts about Bloglines.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Customer 08/30/2007 02:41 PM

Old Bloglines allows me to “keep as new”. So if I am whizzing thru and see something that I’d like to spend more time on I just check it. Beta Bloglines doesn’t do that. Or, I don’t see it. And, it doesn’t honor the oldblogline’s setting. This was the reason I move from Google to Bloglines. Hate to have to move again.
