Suspect in Benghazi Attacks Pleads Not Guilty
Ahmed Abu Khatallah pleaded not guilty to U.S. allegations that he helped carry out the 2012 attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that led to the deaths of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens.

At a hearing on Saturday afternoon, lawyers for the Justice Department said they intend to bring a superseding charge, which could result in Mr. Khatallah being eligible for the death penalty.

RANT: Yesterday’s graduation ceremony

Saturday, June 21, 2014

Yesterday, I went to a graduation ceremony.

No, not mine. Thankfully so.

A Gooferment High Skrule graduated almost 300 children.

There were so many things I could talk about.

OBSERVATIONS

  • The Gooferment bureaucrats speaking flowery phrases.
  • The lack of the crowd to follow a few simple rules for the enjoyment of others.
  • The Gooferment fire truck that broke those rules for certain individuals.
  • The flag with the fringe.
  • Numerous speakers extolling how “special” the graduates were. (Aren’t at least half below average?  “Well, that’s the news from Lake Wobegon, where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average.”)
  • The propaganda about how much the collective had accomplished in the last four years.
  • The large number of Gooferment bureaucrats earning big bucks with similar sounding titles.
  • The complete lack of acknowledgement to the Taxpayer who are all robbed to pay for this “education”.
  • The Pledge and the National Anthem. With some silent protests.
  • The pandering to a returning vet who’s cousin was graduating. And the dias encouraging the fire truck to break their own rules on decorum.
  • The calling out the six youngsters who were going into the military. (I was filled with sadness at that!)
  • The decorated mortar boards where members of the graduating collective tried to express their individuality.
  • The young faces who are so naïve.
  • The valedictorian taking a selfie.
  • The strange behavior of one politician when the mayor gave a speech. (He walked off the dais and faced away towards one of the bleachers. Maybe he was her security. But why that direction. Very strange.)

CONCLUSIONS

  • The complete lack of candor by the adults to the children about the “facts of life”. They are faced with a terrible economy, a staggering national debt, and a political elite that are out of touch and out of control.
  • The inability of people to control themselves. Behaviors I would expect at a football game. Attire that I wouldn’t allow at a garage sale. And, language by young women that even a sailor wouldn’t use in mixed company.
  • The inability of Gooferment to do anything right was reinforced. Names were mispronounced. Songs were amateur. And, the band was out of tune.
  • The traffic in the area was messed up by the Gooferment scheduling two graduations of nearby high schools on the same night.

  • AND finally, my recognition that I am old and crotchety. Sadly burdened with paradigms and memes that will not allow me to “go with the flow”. Probably because I see where “going with the flow” as brought us to.

Taxpayers Face Big Tab for Unusual Doctor Billings

More than 2,300 providers earned $500,000 or more from Medicare in 2012 from a single procedure or service, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis.

A closer look at a few of the doctors who make most of their money from just a few procedures reveals that they are operating outside their areas of expertise or deviating from standard medical practice.

Donald Sterling Agrees to Sell L.A. Clippers, Drop Lawsuit

Donald Sterling, the L.A. Clipper’s embattled owner, has agreed to sell the basketball team to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and is dropping a lawsuit against the NBA, his lawyer said.

Mr. Sterling initially vowed to fight a deal struck last week by his wife, Shelly Sterling, to sell the team to Mr. Ballmer for $2 billion. The NBA in April set out to force him from the league after racist comments he made became public in a recording.

The league’s board of governors must approve any sale.

We didn’t know government employees kept secret waiting lists to cover up the long delays — even though they knew patients had life-threatening illnesses. That sounds like murder to me.

What a surprise! Conservatives like Sarah Palin and I screamed about “death panels” and “death by rationing” under ObamaCare years ago.

Government is a walking disaster. Government screws up everything it touches, while losing billions of dollars in other people’s money.

How could putting government in charge of health care for 330 million Americans possibly work out?

All the wars in America’s history have cost about $7 trillion. Yet the war on poverty has cost $20 trillion and counting (adjusted for inflation)…and poverty is still at a record high. What a massive failure and waste of taxpayer money.

The Federal Reserve has one main job — to protect the value of our dollar. Yet the dollar has lost 98% of its value since the Fed was founded.

The same government that brought you failing post offices, failing trains, and pretty much failing everything else is now in charge of your health care (as well as 17% of the U.S. economy).

Americans who trust the criminal justice (sic) system are completely stupid. A case ofmass wrongful conviction that I wrote about years ago finally came to trial last November. Annie Dookham, a Massachusetts state chemist who falsified drug tests, thus sentencing thousands of innocent people to years in prison, destroying their lives and the lives of their families, was sentenced to 3 to 5 years in prison. Dookhan sent thousands of innocents to prison in order to aid prosecutors in attaining high conviction rates and in order to achieve her own rise as a highly productive state employee. The judge noted that Dookham had cost the state millions of dollars in settling wrongful convictions and had shaken to the core the integrity of the criminal justice (sic) system.

Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been banned for life by the NBA in response to racist comments the league says he made in a recorded conversation.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver also says he will try to force a sale of the Clippers and fined Mr. Sterling $2.5 million. Mr. Silver called Mr. Sterling’s comments and views “deeply offensive and harmful.”

# – # – # – # – #

For some reason, I find this abhorrent on a number of levels.

In no particular order:

  1. Cui Bono Why now? Why in this venue? And for who’s eventual good?

  2. With “evidence” that would probably not be admissible in court. (I’m no lawyer. But I’d never stipulate anything.)
  3. Using language that’s not appropriate, but there’s racism even within the Black community.
  4. Where is the outrage when other’s do the same. I remember Byrd, the Grand Wizard of the KKK, who was “rehabilitated”. There are a ton of other examples.
  5. Did he not employ the best? If our private thoughts and words can be used to condemn us, who is immune?
  6. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I think the speed that it went from disclosure to “execution” is amazing. When a capital case takes decades, this was “done” in minutes. Why?
  7. How fast they changed the team’s website? Minutes after the NBA decision. Pre-planned?
  8. Interesting: “zero tolerance for institutional racism”. OK? But be careful what you say. Are Jewish people going to demand quotas in the NBA. (And, BTW why is the NBA, MLB, and the NFL “non-profit”?)
  9. As an “owner”, how can he be tossed to the curb without due process? A “majority of the owners” is an interesting term of art. I’d say cartel or monopoly. Isn’t that a per se violation of Federal law? MLB has the “baseball exemption”; what does the NBA have?
  10. And, finally, “protest held by several civil rights groups including the NAACP”. Is this the same group that gave him a “lifetime achievement award” and was going to give him another? They have a lot of “gravitas”.
Bottom life: I think he got screwed?

Recent news stories show that American retail is in dire straits. Here are 16 big retail companies that have closed or will close stores soon:
Office supply company Staples has announced plans to close 225 stores by 2015, which is about 15% of its chain. Staples already closed 40 stores last year.

Office Depot, Staples’ main competitor which bought Office Max last year, isn’t in good shape either. Industry analysts expect Office Depot to announce its own round of store closings soon.

Radio Shack has announced plans to close 20% of its stores or as many as 1,100 stores this year. The company, which operates around 4,000 stores, reported that its sales fell by 19% last year.

Albertsons supermarket closed 26 stores in January and February this year. Analysts expect many more Albertsons to be closed down because Albertsons’ owner hedge fundCerberus Capital Management just bought Safeway Inc. Some Safeway stores could soon shut down as well.

As Michael Snyder of The Economic Collapse Blog recently pointed out, America is now a nation where the nine of the top ten job positions earn a grand total of less than $35,000 a year. That means if you earn at least that much, you are now squarely in the country’s lap of luxury compared to the other 59% of Americans surviving on less.

Before taxes, that amount comes out to less than $3,000 a month earned. You would think Congress would be doing a lot better than the average American then, considering they make that much per week at $174,000 a year, even though Congress will only be in session for 113 days total this year.

Maryland moms and dads will now have to be more vigilant when their children use public bathrooms. It will soon be legal for a man who simply says he identifies as a woman to use the ladies’ room.

This serious risk for sexual assaults of women and little girls is all in the name of political correctness. And this is just the latest in a string of successes by the transgender lobby.

RANT: Another “untrue” storey about Obamacare

Thursday, March 20, 2014

“There are plenty of horror stories being told (about Obamacare) all of them are untrue.”

– Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), February 25th, 2014

# – # – #

Sorry, but I know at least one is true.

A dear friend of mine has had no health insurance for a long time. (It’s expensive. She says she can’t afford it. I believe her.)

She developed sciatica. Very painful.

Tried to tough it out but it didn’t get better.

Spent several hundred dollars at Urgent Care to get drugs that made it tolerable.

Obamacare comes and she starts researching. She finds a policy with a 350$ month payment  and 2,500$ deductible. She’s hurting so she figures to “economize”. (Don’t know how that’s going to work.)

She investigates because the 2,500 has to be spent in network. Finds doctors locally who are in network.

Buys the insurance. (Not without its own saga. But it’s just long waits, misinfo, and general administrivia. Not very entertaining.)Then tries to book the appointment.

She finds that all of the locals don’t do backs, only do kids, or only elbows and knees.

She’s forced to find someone.

Argh!

Goes to an out of network Ortho who says he needs an MRI to diagnose her.

Now she has to find a GP in network who will agree to rewrite the out of network ortho’s order for the MRI so she can now try and find an in network MRI place so that when she pays it counts towards her deductible.

Argh!

Anyone care to say nice things about Obamacare. She voted for him because he promised Health Insurance.

(I bit my tongue to keep from saying “how is that working out for you”.)

Needless to say she is <past tense synonym for urine output> off and wondering why she paying for insurance that is any good.

I did point out she get free birth control. She was NOT amused!

(I was!)

I can’t wait to hear more.
