Public Option Sports
by Phil Maymin

*** begin quote ***

The only conclusion one can reach from all this is public options are of course a great idea. They should also be applied to sports.

Sports and health care? Are the two even comparable in terms of impact on the economy?

They are. We pay about as much for health insurance as we do for sports. Health insurance companies had total revenue of $405 billion in 2007, according to the Highline Data Health Industry Aggregate. Total sports revenue, including the NBA, NFL, NHL, MBA and golf, are now around $400 billion a year, according to Plunkett Research, Ltd.

Makes “perfect sense”!

As a matter of fact, when these SOCIALISTS are talking about NATIONALIZING healthcare, just substitute in any other industry.

If I have a “RIGHT” to healthcare, don’t I have a “RIGHT” to food?

It’s absurd.

But follow it to its logical extreme and you wind up back in the USSR.

And, we all know how that turned out.

I just shake my head at our collective foolishness!

Vote them all out. Speak out against this radical left into Socialism!

Golden Parachutes for Public Retirees Will Sink Us All, Experts Say
by Teri Sforza

*** begin quote ***

Recently, the chief egghead for the gargantuan California Public Employees Retirement System said the same.

“I don’t want to sugarcoat anything,” said Ron Seeling, the CalPERS chief actuary, according to a story in the Capitol Weekly. “We are facing decades without significant turnarounds in assets, decades of – what I, my personal words, nobody else’s – unsustainable pension costs of between 25 percent of pay for a miscellaneous plan and 40 to 50 percent of pay for a safety plan (police and firefighters) … unsustainable pension costs. We’ve got to find some other solutions.”

No doubt, while the article studies California, every one shares this problem.

Socialism!

Private industry has long ago switched to the 401K.

Why not the public sector?

Then we wouldn’t care how much they got at retirement. And we wouldn’t be a risk for it.

Sorry, but if Obama is looking for inspiration, I wouldn’t urge him to look there. At least Carter was honest. Incompetent, but honest.

We need a true “peace” president. Let’s start closing bases and bringing the boys and girls home. Use the savings to pay down the debt.

We need an entrepreneurial president. Eliminate the capital gains tax; free up capital. Eliminate the corporate income tax; corporations will rush to HQ here in the USA. Besides, corporations don’t pay taxes; people do. Eliminate price supports and payments NOT to grow stuff. Let’s feed the world!

We need a “simple” president. Simplify everything. We need people to focus on “producing”; not “loophole finding”. Tort reform. End the psuedo drug war. Shut down the FDA. Shut down the TSA. Shut down the Department of Education.

We have a lot of work to do.

Kennedy should resign
By Jeff Jacoby

The Boston Globe

*** begin quote ***

RUNNING for reelection in 1982, Senator Ted Kennedy aired a series of sentimental television ads in which longtime supporters spoke of him as an empathetic human being who was no stranger to suffering and sorrow. One of those supporters was 83-year-old Frank Manning, founder of the Massachusetts Association of Older Americans. “He’s not a plaster saint, he’s not without his faults,’’ Manning said in the ad. “But we wouldn’t want a plaster saint.’’

Sorry, but even now we can call them as we see them.

Kennedy’s conduct was an insult to anyone with a shred of human decency. Mary Jo was whitewashed. Any one else would have spent time in jail. What else has been covered over to keep him in office? Disgraceful. More disgraceful to the “liberal leftist” press who failed their sacred trust.

Further, he was a CINO. The classic example of a Catholic In Name Only. He gave public scandal by voting for abortion and everyone gives him a free pass.

It’s not my job to judge. Above my pay grade. But he’s one I don’t understand. Silver spoon and all. He had it all and squandered it.

The next day, he returned to file tax forms that were overdue. A representative told him that if he paid another $10,000, he would be allowed to reopen. He said he didn’t have the money. Australia: Billions wasted in national health care system

The Australian [Australia]

“Australia is wasting much of the $94 billion it spends each year on health services and will not be able to afford even the current, flawed system without major reforms. Dear Mr. O’Reilly,

I think you are wrong about the “birth-er” controversy.

Strategically, coming off the fiscal and liberty performance of the Bush years, the R’s have nothing to brag about. They can’t claim to be the “party of small government and individual liberty”. They acted like the party of big gooferment that they are.

Tactically, the birth certificate belies the “open and transparent” claim of the Obama campaign. Why spend millions to conceal a trivial document. Why fight to hide everything from his early years. Obama is nothing to show as an example of fiscal restraint or champion of liberty. The D’s too are the party of big socialistic government. It just took a while for the Sheeple to tumble to con that had been pulled on them.

I don’t KNOW where Obama was born. I don’t know why all the effort to conceal a document. I don’t know much. But I DO KNOW that when a politician puts that much effort into hiding something (i.e., his entire past), then there is a smoking gun or a smelly skunk in there somewhere. And, I’d like to see it.

We, as a country, have a unique habit of ignoring the facts. Wilson did campaign a peace platform. FDR did engineer Pearl Harbor. Kennedy’s assassination is unexplained. Bush41’s no new taxes. Clinton “I did not have sex with that woman”. Bush43 creating the TSA. Obama’s porkulus and Government Motors. Economi

I, for one, would like to put some stakes in the ground. Let’s start with the birth certificate!

Just ask one question: Why the prodigious effort to hide it?

Obama is approaching such a moment of truth.

The universal health insurance plans being advanced all appear too complex, costly and non-credible to pass both houses. The cap-and-trade carbon emissions bill, with its huge costs to be passed on to U.S. producers and consumers, as China opts out, seems an act of national masochism.

The $787 billion stimulus bill has done zip to stimulate the economy. Less than 10 percent of the money has gone out the door, which makes one wonder why it was called a stimulus package. Unemployment is at 9.5 percent, well above what the Obamaites predicted, and rising.

As worrisome is the situation in Afghanistan. The United States has 66,000 troops in country or on the way, as our NATO allies look for the exit ramp. We are seven and a half years in and the Afghan army is not remotely capable of defending the nation or regime.

SEC Favors Special Interests in New Corporate Elections Rule
Posted by Mark A. Calabria

*** begin quote ***

Yesterday, the SEC repealed a long-standing rule which allowed brokers to vote shares on behalf of their investors, unless they obtained written directions from each individual investors. While investors have long been able to direct the voting of their shares, many do not take the time to. In these cases, the brokers vote those shares, after all they are the agents of the investors and are hired to act on their behalf.

The direct effect of the rule will be to reduce the voting weight of retail investors, as represented by their brokers. In voting against the rule, SEC Commissioner Kathy Casey raised the point that the rule would skew voting toward large institutional investors and away from little retail investors.

*** and ***

Then one should not be too surprised to see pension funds be allowed to cast their “uninstructed” votes while brokers cannot. The largest pension funds manage the retirement of unionized state and local employees, often with the fund management itself representing the interests of the unions. We witnessed this same favoring of union interests over the common good in the auto bailouts.

The rule once again illustrates that the new bosses in Washington are busy rewarding their allies at the expense of everyone else.

*** end quote ***

I’m shocked — “I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!” Captain Renault in Casablanca — that there is politics going on in regulation. Ever heard of “regulatory capture” or as a normal human being would call it: “The inmates are running the asylum”!

The SEC did so well in the Made-Off scandal. Never did reimpose the uptick rule. Never did figure out the “ratings agency” problem.

But they can sure pay off contributors fast!

MY COMMENT

I wouldn’t characterize them as “inconsequential”. As anecdotal evidence, I have a friend (Yes, I do as surprising as that sounds!) who has never done anything political before. He’s so upset with ALL the politicians that he’s going out to his first political rally ever. A tea party. He’s upset that his children and grandchildren are being stolen from, put in debt unbelievable, and may never be free. That’s “consequential” to me.

And, “liberal media”, of which you are so much a part of, refers to its support of the “big government DEMOCRATIC” agenda. You won’t hear anything of “anti war” now, because it was all a sham to get the BLUE BIG GOVERNMENT candidate elected. Now that it’s Mister Obama’s war, it’s a good one. (The ONLY true anti-war candidate in the race was Ron Paul. You call him a wing nut, but he gave you a plan for ending the war. “Put all our people on the first thing smoking out of country.” And he’d have done just that. Why are we still in NATO?) There are no “principles” involved. We probably haven’t had a principled President since George Washington or Andrew Jackson.

See it’s all a giant scam. Guess you didn’t get the memo. It’s just “say whatever is needed” to get OUR GUY in power. Then we’ll all feather our nest.

So how’s Bush’s “Third Term” working out for you? Goldman Sachs is doing just fine. Was that the “change” you were “hoping” for?

Note: There is no difference between the D’s and R’s. They are two sides of the same coin. (More spending to share!) Co-conspirators in the same crime – robbing the taxpayers of the country and defrauding the rest of the citizens.

WASHINGTON — Billions of dollars in federal aid delivered directly to the local level to help revive the economy have gone overwhelmingly to places that supported President Obama in last year’s presidential election.

That aid — about $17 billion — is the first piece of the administration’s massive stimulus package that can be tracked locally. Much of it has followed a well-worn path to places that regularly collect a bigger share of federal grants and contracts, guided by formulas that have been in place for decades and leave little room for manipulation.

MASSACHUSETTS (WPRI) – A record number of families are being put up in motels in Massachusetts. High unemployment and the rising number of home foreclosures is the reason the state is taking this action.

Housing Massachusetts’ homeless is costing tax payers around $2 million per month. It costs an average of $85 per night to have families, including nearly 1000 children, stay in motels.

The Interagency Council on Housing and Homelessness admits that the use of motels for the homeless is not ideal, but is the best that can be done at this time.

Homeless advocates are worried that families are not getting the support of shelters with living rooms, kitchens, and play areas.

MY COMMENT

Is it the role of the State Government to “shelter”? Is shelter a “right”? Remember where you say someone has a “right” that says you’re going to take a gun and force someone else to pay for it. As a little L libertarian, this is a function of families, churches, charities, fraternities, sororities, and other institutions. The  government becomes the gooferment when it tries to be all things to all people. It forces out “charity” with it’s high taxes. AND, the first thing it does is create a bureaucracy with a union. Note at the end: “homeless advocates” want shelters with living rooms and kitchens. Argh! And, who pays the “homeless advocates” for all this “advocating”? Am I the only one who has a problem with this?
