GUNS: Support Constitutional Carry by Gun Owners of America on Independence Day

2015-Jul-04

*** begin quote ***

Happy Independence Day!

“GOA [has] proven itself as a uniquely effective ‘no-compromise’ national leader in the gun rights advocacy community.” — David Codrea, formerly of The Examiner

Not a GOA member yet? You can join Gun Owners of America today for a mere $20!

Gun owners should take heart because freedom is advancing!

It has been a good year for freedom.

More state legislatures are passing GOA-backed laws, enabling citizens to carry firearms concealed WITHOUT permits — laws that are known as Constitutional Carry.

More states are enacting GOA-backed laws to veto federal restrictions within their borders. The Brady Campaign even lost a case against Kansas last month, when a judge threw out a lawsuit challenging the state’s pro-gun law (from 2013) imposing felony penalties on anyone enforcing gun control. to get more information on these polls.

Finally, more and more people are converting to the pro-gun position. Polls show that the number of people who favor gun rights — and oppose gun control — is dramatically increasing.

Sure, our rights don’t depend on what the majority thinks. But it’s nice when you have the bulk of the American people on your side! Click here to get more information on these polls.

Americans are increasingly pro-gun and are mobilizing

Your involvement with Gun Owners of America is helping make a difference. GOA is educating the public and is mobilizing the grassroots to put the heat on their elected legislators.

Just yesterday, our Facebook page hit one million “likes.” Our email activist list continues to grow dramatically.

Our numbers are increasing, and that means YOUR VOICE is getting louder and louder inside the halls of Congress.

Gun Owners of America wants to thank you for your activism, because we couldn’t do what we do without your support.

No wonder that National Public Radio was able to say, “Gun Owners of America showed with one email alert that it could help flood the phone lines on Capitol Hill days before the Senate vote.” (December 26, 2013)

GOA: Saturating the media

In addition to “flooding” the Congress with grassroots activism, Gun Owners of America is helping to shape the gun rights debate around the nation.

In the two weeks following the tragic shooting in South Carolina, GOA representatives appeared in almost 1,000 different media outlets to defend 2nd Amendment rights. At some points, we were literally communicating with the American people around the clock.

Some of the more notable appearances can be listened to or viewed here:

(1) GOA Director of Communications Erich Pratt goes “mano a mano” with a British TV anchor over the subject of self-defense and gun rights.

(2) Inside the country, GOA representatives appear on CNN and an ABC NewsTalk stations to reject calls for gun control and to demonstrate how law-abiding citizens can (and have) stopped mass shootings.

(3) On both radio and in print, GOA Executive Director Larry Pratt discusses the Pope’s response to the Charleston shooting when he declared that gun makers (and by inference, gun owners) can’t be Christians.

There are a lot more media appearances that we have posted, and you can catch up with these on the GOA website, YouTube and Facebook pages.

GOA: Big wins for gun owners at the Supreme Court

Finally, Gun Owners of America is defending our gun rights in the courts. And this includes lawsuits challenging California’s waiting period and restrictive concealed carry requirements.

Not only that, while the Supreme Court’s major decision from last Friday has dominated the news, there have been several cases before the high Court that have advanced gun owners’ rights.

Gun Owners of America has been involved in all of these cases, and we are happy to report that we have enjoyed a stream of victories and are steadily reclaiming lost ground in the courts. Click here to get more information on these GOA victories at the Supreme Court.

Again, none of this is possible without you.

We know that the media is frequently dominated by “bad news.” But as you commemorate Independence Day this weekend, realize that there are a lot of good things happening that we can celebrate, as well.

GUNS: Nuetered Brits Fear Terrorists

Nuetered British Fear Terrorists May Attack With Smuggled Guns
Posted by Bob Owens on June 29, 2015 at 5:21 pm

*** begin quote ***

The British people long ago gave up their natural right to own firearms, and are now fearful that they may stand nearly defenseless against homegrown Muslim terrorists armed with obsolete Cold War-era submachine gun:

Fears of a Tunisian style attack on the streets of Britain have been raised after it emerged that criminal gangs have been smuggling powerful submachine guns into the country.

Security chiefs are concerned that the weapons, capable of firing 1,000 rounds a minute, could fall into the hands of would be jihadists.

A report from the National Crime Agency (NCA) published last week into serious and organised crime in the UK, found evidence of an “increased threat” of Czech made Skorpion submachine guns being imported into the UK by street gangs in London and the south east.

The fear is that these weapons could then find their way into the hands of extremists, intent on carrying out a terror attack.

There isn’t apparently any direct evidence that any terror cells have acquired Skorpions, but more a general fear that if they do acquire some of the weapons criminal gangs are sneaking into the country, that a Mumbai-style attack is possible. In that 2008 attack in similarly disarmed India, ten Islamic terrorists slaughtered at least 164 and wounded hundreds more over the course of a four-day assault.

GUNS: Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church was a “gun free zone”?

OPINION
Gun-free zones an easy target for killers
By John R. Lott
Published June 18, 2015

*** begin quote ***

The horrible tragedy last night that left nine people dead at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., probably could have been avoided. Like so many other attacks, the massacre took place in a gun-free zone, a place where the general public was banned from having guns. The gun-free zone obviously didn’t stop the killer from bringing a gun into the church.

*** and ***

Time after time, we see that these killers tell us they pick soft targets. With just two exceptions, from at least 1950, all the mass public shootings have occurred in these gun-free zones. From last summer’s mass public killers in Santa Barbara and Canada, to the Aurora movie theater shooter, these killers made it abundantly clear in their diaries or on Facebook how they avoided targets where people with guns could stop them.

*** and ***

The gun control debate would probably be dramatically different if even some of the news stories would occasionally mention that another attack has occurred in a gun-free zone. I have been able to find just one Associated Press story that mentions an attack occurred in a gun-free zone — a recent attack at a mall this year in Pittsburgh.

*** end quote ***

Yet, BHO44, Hillary, and the leftist liberal media all want more gun control.

Never let a crisis go to waste?

Argh!

Concealed carry saves innocent lives at zero cost.

It’s predictable.

GUNS: Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerzee “kills” a woman with its “gun laws”

NJ WOMAN STABBED TO DEATH WAITING FOR STATE PERMISSION TO OWN GUN
by AWR HAWKINS
4 Jun 2015212

*** begin quote ***

On April 21, Carol Bowne from Berlin Township, NJ, applied for a license to own a handgun, which she wanted to protect herself from a former boyfriend against whom she had a restraining order.

On June 3—while still waiting for the state to give her permission to own a gun—Bowne’s former boyfriend, Michael Eitel, allegedly stabbed her to death in her own driveway.

According to the Courier-Post, after getting the restraining order, Bowne “installed security cameras and an alarm system to her home and began the months-long process of obtaining a handgun.” Bowne’s co-workers said, “She got a restraining order about a month ago, and right after that her car windows were broken.”

*** and ***

This tragedy is one more example of the foolishness of putting a licensing requirement on the Second Amendment. Like all gun control, it empowers those with criminal intentions while making the vulnerable more vulnerable.

*** end quote ***

Back in 2006, I wrote about the uselessness of restraining orders.

I won’t repeat myself; you can read it if you want:

GUNS: Columbia trains future journalists in the “party line”

SECOND AMENDMENT
‘Covering Guns’: Columbia University’s ‘workshop’ for journalists far from objective
By Dr. John R. Lott Jr. Published May 29, 2015 FoxNews.com

*** begin quote ***

Columbia University would never sponsor an event funded by the National Rifle Association. What’s more, the idea would seem especially outlandish if most of the speakers at the event were NRA supporters.

Yet, gun control advocate and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his gun control group Everytown are now funding a two-day workshop in Phoenix on Friday and Saturday sponsored by Columbia University’s Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma. The event will bring together journalists from around the country to learn about “covering guns and gun violence.”

Bruce Shapiro, executive director of the Dart Center, claims that there is “no party line” and calls the workshop “very balanced.”

But gun control advocates make up 15 of the panel’s 17 experts. Aren’t journalism schools supposed to teach journalists to present both sides of a story? Why doesn’t Columbia feature other speakers who argue that people should be able to defend themselves with guns?

*** and ***

But you would think that Columbia would have the gumption to at least use basic journalistic practices of fact checking and teaching journalists to see both sides of an issue when they offer a workshop.

*** end quote ***

Seriously, have you ever seen the state of “Journalism” today?

Columbia is partially responsible for that state.

Common sense demonstrates that “good guys with guns” stop “bad guys with guns”.

And, when there is a defensive use of gun, it rarely gets any media attention. If no shots are fired, there will be NO coverage at all.

The Dead Old White Guys must be rolling over about this issue, as well as some others (i.e., fiat currency; Gooferment Skrules; FED; Federal “special militias” that is the various Federal “police” agencies; federal asset forfeiture; “(pseudo) War on (some) Drugs”).

The RIGHT to Keep and Bear Arms is the platinum standard for Liberty.

All you have to do is ask candidates one question. “Where do you stand on guns?”

Judge nixes New York City gun permit for firearms dealer
Published May 24, 2015

*** begin quote ***

A judge won’t let a traveling firearms dealer carry a concealed weapon in New York City to protect himself and his wares from “criminals and terrorists.”

Cavalier Knight applied for a gun permit from the New York City Police Department in 2014. He went to court when the application was denied. He claimed the NYPD violated his Second Amendment rights.
But in a decision posted Friday, a judge rejected that claim while upholding New York’s tough gun control law, the New York Daily News reported Saturday.

GUNS: Why shouldn’t Americans be able to defend themselves?

SECOND AMENDMENT
Guns and the New York Times: Why shouldn’t Americans be able to defend themselves?
By Dr. John R. Lott Jr. Published February 24, 2015 FoxNews.com

*** begin quote ***

Gun control advocates just can’t accept the fact that concealed handgun permit holders are incredibly law-abiding.  The New York Times’ recent attack on permit holders is typical.  It is filled with triple-counting of legitimate self-defense cases. Murders or suicides by permit holders are blamed on guns, even when no gun was involved.  In point of fact, permit holders are incredibly law-abiding.  Some new evidence puts things in perspective.

*** end quote ***

Indeed, why does the Gooferment get to decide who can defend themselves?

And, permit holders are more law abiding than police!

That’s a interesting factoid.

Of course, the liberal media spins, slants, and misreports to propagandize “We, The Sheeple”.

That’s to be expected.

Hence, one becomes extremely cynical of everything and everybody.

GUNS: Loaded weapons BEHIND people on the firing line?

REGIONS
‘American Sniper’ Chris Kyle never had chance to draw gun, Texas Ranger says
Published February 12, 2015
FoxNews.com

*** begin quote ***

The body of Chris Kyle, the former sniper killed at a rural Texas gun range in 2013, was located by rangers wearing a loaded 1911-style semiautomatic pistol that was still holstered and with its safety on, a Texas Ranger testified on Thursday.

*** and ***

Tim Moore, an attorney for Routh, said Kyle and Littlefield’s text exchange shows how Routh was spiraling out of control. He told jurors that Routh was suffering from severe mental strain that day and thought he needed to kill the two or they would turn on him.

*** end quote ***

In another earlier report, it was asserted that both men were shot from behind.

I don’t know how the range worked there, but I know how some ranges in NJ and VA operate.

There is a range safety officer, who’s watching what happens. And loaded weapons are NOT allowed BEHIND people on the firing line.

There’s no doubt that is NOT a perfect solution.

But a loaded weapon BEHIND two experienced shooters would have not gone unnoticed.

Just an observation.

GUNS: The bias against guns

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2015/01/09/bias-against-guns-what-media-isnt-telling/?intcmp=ob_homepage_opinion&intcmp=obnetwork

SECOND AMENDMENT
The bias against guns: What the media isn’t telling you
By Dr. John R. Lott Jr.Published January 09, 2015FoxNews.com

*** begin quote ***

Weren’t these stories equally newsworthy? To save a stranger, a permit holder stood up to four attackers. Without the pastor’s concealed handgun permit, there could have been a mass shooting in a crowded church. That would surely have gotten massive national news coverage, but the pastor stopping the attack wasn’t considered a story.

The lopsided coverage gives Americans a skewed view of guns.

*** and ***

I can’t find another similar case of a child accidentally firing a permit holder’s concealed handgun. For decades, there have been millions of permit holders. Today, there are 12 million. It will probably be a very long time before there’s another case like this.

*** and ***

Unfortunately, despite the family’s claim to the contrary, the extremely rare tragedy with Veronica Rutledge likely arose because she stored her gun improperly.  If she had a semi-automatic pistol, as some reports indicate, it would have been impossible for a two-year-old to have the strength to pull the slide back on the gun to chamber the first round. If she had a revolver or most pistols, it seems exceedingly unlikely that child would have switched off the safety.  Thus, she had either already chambered the first round in the gun herself and/or switched off the safety,  thus negating the gun’s safety features.

*** end quote ***

Argh!

When I read the report, I knew that it would “lead the bleed”.

And, equally as well, I KNEW it was a “User error”.

Guns just don’t “go off”!

Argh!

Shaneen Allen to Avoid Prison as New Jersey AG Revises Sentencing Guidance for Gun Law Violations

Posted on September 26, 2014

*** begin quote ***

In a stunning outbreak of sanity in the Garden State, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain has reversed his earlier decision to seek prison time for Shaneen Allen, a single mother from Philadelphia who was facing felony prosecution for misunderstanding concealed carry reciprocity rules. The decision came after John Hoffman, acting New Jersey Attorney General, issued statewide guidance to county prosecutors clarifying the application of New Jersey’s mandatory sentencing scheme to certain minor firearm violations. These developments mean that not only will Ms. Allen and her children be spared the ordeal of her facing a felony conviction and lengthy prison term but that other travelers who unwittingly violate New Jersey’s harsh laws gun laws may also avoid a similar nightmare.

Could it be that Ray Rice getting a pass to “pre-trial intervention” and the Shaneen Allen facing a 5 year prison term from the same Prosecutor and Judge get enough “heat” placed on Prez candidate Guv Christie to “reverse course”?

“Holy Sh*t. I Survived.” Woman Shoots Elusive Stalker Who Tormented Her For Six Months, Then Bares Her Soul OnlinePosted by Bob Owens on September 26, 2014 at 4:33 pm

*** begin quote ***

I Shot My Stalker Tonight

I’m writing this staring at the mess the police left for me, in a bit of a fog. After 6 months of stalking and threats against my life my stalker finally snapped and decided to kick my door in and make good on his promise. Out of fear, the past month I had begun sleeping with a chair propped against my front door, to give myself a few extra precious seconds in case of emergency. I shudder to think how differently things might’ve turned out had I not barricaded the door. I awoke around 115 am to the sound of the door giving way after one kick followed by the sounds of my stalker struggling to dislodge the chair while forcing his way inside. I jumped up and grabbed the gun I’ve learned to do everything even shower with. I stood at the top of my stairs and fired twice. Hitting him in the chest, I hear his scream, his disbelief that I’d stood up for myself.. 0 to 100 in milliseconds. I’ve never been so afraid in my life. I do not know if he is living, but I do know the police have him and that’s what helps the most. For months of him evading the police I began to question whether he was unstoppable. Untraceable. Houdini, he would murder me and get away with it. As of now I’m in a haze of guilt, surprise, relief and disbelief. I shook as the canines drag him out from his hiding place under a bush. I survived, where so many people do not. Holy sh*t, I survived.

*** end quote ***

That solves that problem.

As readers know, I think “restraining orders” should come with a “hunting permit”.

In this case, the “bad guy” was stopped but a “good woman with a gun”.

She should work on her aim.

Court Upholding Ban on Militia-Suitable Firearms Ignores Key Second Amendment Purpose
By David Codrea published on August 15, 2014 in Legal Issues

*** begin quote ***

U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake decided Tuesday against plaintiffs in Kolbe v O’Malley, a challenge to Maryland’s Firearm Safety Act, ruling “assault weapons” and their standard-capacity magazines “fall outside Second Amendment protection as dangerous and unusual.”

The Clinton-appointed judge went through double-jointed judicial contortions, revealing politically-motivated hostilities to be dissected by no shortage of legal scholars and pundits. They, and readers following their work, will be examining case details and disconnects, including prejudicial weapon descriptions, agenda-driven “expert” testimony, and myriad questionable assertions presumed by the court to be indisputable facts. Those include allegations of enhanced danger posed by the affected firearms, challenges to the effectiveness of the weapons in home-defense situations, dismissal of the relative distribution of such guns among the population, abuses of the demonized weaponry by criminals, and offensive police training comparison arguments used to undermine equal protection and disparage gun-owner competency. Those can then all be balanced against fraudulent “compelling state interest” and judicial scrutiny-level arguments, as if the security of a free State isn’t the most compelling interest, and as if unalienable rights don’t merit the strictest scrutiny.

*** begin quote ***

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to post this, but now that we’re out of alternatives I’ll be as succinct as I can and attempt (no doubt unsuccessfully) to keep my most heated personal judgments to a minimum.

Somebody reminded me this week of that statement from Aaron, the late, great founder of Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership. That was how Aaron contrasted himself and JPFO with Alan Gottlieb and Gottlieb’s SAF/CCRKBA.

Aaron wanted to educate people so that victim disarmament would go away. He would have been thrilled to be able to close JPFO’s doors and say, “We’ve done it.”

On the other hand, he despised Alan Gottlieb and saw him as an opportunist who used scary mailings to turn SAF/CCRKBA into a fundraising factory. He saw Gottlieb as a person who needed and wanted “gun control” because that’s what kept the money and the publicity flowing.

Nine-year-old girl kills shooting instructor with an Uzi submachine gun in U.S.

# – # – # – # – #

This is STUPID in action.

Where where the parents?

Where did this “shooting instructor” get his training?

Has anyone ever fired a full auto? Which ever way it ejects, than it will move in the opposite direction.

The joke in boot was that if an untrained shooter is firing fully auto at you, then go low and charge when it runs out in a few seconds.

During the “War of Northern Aggression”, Union supply officers wanted to discourage repeating rifles because it would encourage soldiers to waste ammo and exacerbate supply shortages.

Full auto is for defending again a Banzai charge. Nothing else. The Marines have proven that semi-auto is “good enuf”!

When recently I was a “strange gun shoot” (i.e., 15 different guns from 22 to 50 cal semi-auto fixed mount machine gun), there was an instructor and range safety officer at every firing position as well as 5 range safety officer watching each of three stations and one Chief Range Safey Officer in something like a tennis umpire’s chair watch the entire range and commanding “Hot and Cold”.

Argh!

What were these fools going to do next? Have the child juggle a few running chainsaws.

Between the open carry fools, who damage the cause, and this one, we don’t need “gun control advocates” to oppose us, we are doing the job for them.

Argh! Argh!

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the man, 21-year-old Marquise Trevel Yates, broke into a home on Seabrook Cove Road, off Arlington Expressway, about 6:30 a.m. and threatened the homeowner, 50-year-old Foster Coker, at gunpoint.

Police said there was a struggle between Yates (pictured below) and Coker, but Coker was able to get away.

“The homeowner was able to retrieve a firearm and the suspect of the robbery was deceased at the scene,” said Sgt. Michael Paul.

According to the police report, Coker retrieved his personal firearm and exchanged gunfire with Yates. Coker’s wife, Pam, also fired her personal handgun at Yates, who died at the scene.

Wow!

While as a pro-life pro-choice little L libertarian, I am saddened at the loss of any human like!

But the chutzpah of an occupied home invasion is stunning.

What else can people do?

One less criminal! And, hopefully, the message gets out!

OCOEE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) – The victim of a violent purse-snatching in Orange County is telling her story to Fox 35 after being discharged from the hospital.

74-year-old Charlotte Dunaway was released from Orlando Regional Medical Center, but is still recovering from Friday’s attack at an Ocoee Publix.

I guess Florida hasn’t issue enough carry permits.

What chance does a 74 year old woman have against two “urban yutes”?

It’s hard not to stereotype when you see videos like this.

I imagine “Harry Callahan” at the Publix. Wonder what he’d say or do there?

“I know what you’re thinking, punk. You’re thinking “did he fire six shots or only five?” Now to tell you the truth I forgot myself in all this excitement. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and will blow you head clean off, you’ve gotta ask yourself a question: “Do I feel lucky?” Well, do ya, punk?” — Clint Eastwood as Harry Callahan in the 1971 classic “Dirty Harry”

GUNS: WMAL Brian Wilson RKBA is the “war on women”

Brian Wilson got on a roll yesterday morning.

I don’t have an exact timestamp but it was in the 7:30 time frame.

He made the assertion that the true war on women was the right to defend themselves.

His example was:

“Taylor Woolrich, a junior, says Dartmouth administrators told her they won’t let her carry a gun on campus, even though she lives in fear of a man who has been stalking her since she was a high school student in San Diego.”

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/08/06/ivy-leaguer-plagued-by-stalker-may-drop-out-over-schools-anti-gun-policy/

I have a “bumper sticker” quote that sums it up: “Victim disarmament is the view that it is somehow better to see a woman raped in an alley and strangled with her own pantyhose, than see her with a gun in her hand.” — T.D. Melrose

Brian went on to argue that the R’s should adopt this issue in response to the D’s “war on women” spiel.

He also suggested that the NRA jump on this issue.

And, he expressed shock that this was in New Hampshire, the “Live Free or Die” state.

(I’m a signer on the Free State Project freestateproject.org to move 20,000 liberty lovers to NH and make it the “truly Free State”. Obviously a lot of work to be done yet.)

The Second Amendment is about self-defense. Both from the tyranny of the government and other predators both two legged and four legged.

Argh!

Seems so simple to me!

GUNS: RKBA SHALL NOT except in the USSA

Why Every (Yes, Every) Gun Control Law Is Unconstitutional
Written by: Byron Berger Self Defense July 11, 2014

*** begin quote ***

What’s interesting about this language is that it states that the right to bear arms SHALL NOT be infringed. The Founding Fathers placed a bright-line prohibition on infringement of the right. They knew the difference between an outright prohibition and the providing to the federal government the ability to place reasonable restrictions on a right. For example, the Fourth Amendment prohibits “unreasonable” search and seizure.

Until 2010, the significant weakness of the Second Amendment was that, in some minds, it did not apply to state or local governments. These governments were free to make any regulations their state supreme courts held acceptable under the state constitutions. That’s why states like New York and California could virtually ban their citizens from bearing arms.

But it all changed in 2010, when the United States Supreme Court decided McDonald v. Chicago. This case held that the Second Amendment was “incorporated.” This legal term means that the states and local governments now must follow the limitations of the federal Constitution’s Second Amendment, and that state laws cannot be more restrictive than those allowed by the Second Amendment.

Had an interesting discussion with a young lady going off to college and concerned about personal safety.

A friends recommended MACE or Pepper Spray.

I disagreed.

The young lady will travel from the Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerzee, through the Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerzee, to the Pepuls Republik of Konn-net-tea-cut!

Guaranteed she will fall afoul of the diktats in one of those three “jurisdiction”.

I recommend pursuing other options — one of which was a concealed carry permit in all three states. Virtually impossible for “regular people”.

As well as self-defense classes and situational awareness training (OODA).

If some one is going to hurt her, I want her to stop it cold!

GUN: Reciprocity — driver’s license, yes; a concealed carry permit, no?

Atlantic County, New Jersey (My9NJ) –
27 year-old Shaneen Allen from Philadelphia wanted to protect her family. She took a gun safety course, applied for and was granted a concealed carry permit and she purchased a gun.

Welcome to the Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerzee!

Absurd.

It’s perfectly reasonable to assume that, like a driver’s license, a concealed carry permit has reciprocity.

But, Nooooo!

Drunk racists shoot and kill black cop at Waffle House

*** begin quote ***

This weekend, 43-year-old police officer Kevin Jordan was shot and killed while working an in-uniform off-duty overnight security shift at a Waffle House in Georgia. After three inebriated customers–Tyler Taylor, Michael Bowman and Chantell Mixon–were asked to leave the restaurant for causing a disturbance, Jordan walked them outside to their car. The three summarily started screaming racial slurs at Jordan, and Mixon started to try to physically fight him. When Jordan tried to restrain Mixon in order to arrest her, Bowman pulled out his gun and shot him in the back several times, killing him.

*** end quote ***

While I’m a gun nut, I would no more concealed carry and drink than I would doing a roof or working with a chainsaw.

That being said, this was a terrible foreseeable tragedy.

Similar to a DUI, we should have little tolerance for carrying a firearm “under the influence”.

For some reason, I suspect that these three are not “fine upstanding citizens”. Like many criminals, they may have been through the “revolving doors” at various courthouses and jails.

I’m anxious to see further details of their careers.

Argh!

GUNS: Gun Control in Nazi Germany; it CAN happen here and has

Gun Control in Nazi Germany
By Audrey D. Kline

May 10, 2014

*** begin quote ***

As has been well documented, Jews were methodically attacked, their homes, businesses, and synagogues ransacked and burned. Upward of 30,000 Jews were arrested. Any Jews resisting arrest were ordered shot on the spot. Attacks on the Jews were to be carried out by the SA, with no interference by police. Jews arrested were to be sent to concentration camps for up to 20 years. The pogrom was so thorough that nearly all age appropriate, Jewish adult males in Stuttgart had been arrested. With the population afraid and disarmed, Hitler could proceed with little worry about resistance. The Court reinforced that there was no judicial review needed for activities of the Gestapo.

Halbrook concludes by noting that less government regulation and a tradition of rejecting tyranny could have led to a different outcome in Germany. Instead, systematic creation and manipulation of firearms registration and regulations, coupled with the decimation of individual citizen’s rights, enabled Hitler’s dictatorship and the slaughter of millions of innocent Jews and citizens of Nazi-occupied countries, as well as tens of thousands of Germans. It remains for all of us to wonder what might have been had people refused to register their firearms. Indeed, we should all take note and never forget.

“Gun Control” aka “Victim disarmament is the view that it is somehow better to see a woman raped in an alley and strangled with her own pantyhose, than see her with a gun in her hand.” — T.D. Melrose

Remember that it started in South to protect the KKK. Can’t have victims shooting back.

And never forget the Japanese internment.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? . . .” — Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Die in the camps like cattle or die fighting.

You’re dead either way.

The character “Ronald Spiers” in Band of Brothers (a 2001 TV Mini-Series): “The only hope you have is to accept the fact that you’re already dead. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you’ll be able to function as a soldier is supposed to function: without mercy, without compassion, without remorse. All war depends upon it.”

GUNS: “Victim disarmament” costs this poor woman her life

Bear kills Irish woman in savage attack in Canada
Kate Hickey @irishcentral May 10,2014 04:00 AM

*** begin quote ***

A Dublin woman had been killed by a male black bear on an oilfield in Alberta, Canada.

*** and ***

Lorna Weafer (36), who emigrated to Canada with her parents, Margaret and Frank, 30 years ago, was working as an instrument technician carrying out electrical work at the Suncor oilfield. The oilfield is located 25 miles north of her home in Fort McMurray.

The incident took place at 2:15pm on Wednesday, May 7. Weafer was exiting a portable washroom when she was attacked.

Six of her co-workers tried to scare off the bear but they could not save her. She died at scene.

Her colleagues blasted air horns, sprayed fire extinguishers and shot a water cannon at the bear who continued to maul Weafer for an hour. The bear would back away for short periods and then come back.

*** end quote ***

Are you kidding me. No one had a handgun or a rifle.

Argh!

As a species, we are delusional.

“Victim disarmament is the view that it is somehow better to see a woman raped in an alley and strangled with her own pantyhose, than see her with a gun in her hand.” — T.D. Melrose

In this case, mauled by a bear.

Maybe she couldn’t have defended herself, but that’s up for debate.

BUT, (and there is always a BIG butt), six co-workers armed with air horns?

One person with a 1911 .45 on their hip could have ended it a minute.

Transfer from magazine to bear would take conservatively a minute or two.

Argh!
