NJ Family Had Restraining Order Against Man Before Triple Murder-Suicide, Report Says

BERKELEY, NJ — The family slain by an estranged family member had a restraining order against him at one point after experiencing his abuse for years, according to a report.

Court records show Vaughn Stewart’s criminal history dating back to 2017, according to NJ.com. He was found not guilty of eight crimes, including aggravated assault with a knife and endangering the welfare of a child via a sex act. The details of that case are unknown.

Well, score another one for the complete ineffectiveness of the Gooferment politicians and bureaucrats to prevent criminals from violating a protective order.

I’ve ranted on this before; many times.   Back in 2006, I wrote about the uselessness of restraining orders.

If the politicians and bureaucrats would pull their heads out of their <synonym for donkeys>, obeyed the Constitution, this woman might be alive today.

Argh!

I’d hand out “hunting licenses” to protect yourself with the Restraining Order!  The victim should be free to “stand their ground” and the perpetrator needs to stay far away.  

If need be, the Sheriff should have loaners and lessons at the time the order is issued.

No excuses. No recriminations.  Keep the criminals in jail if you’re worried about them as “targets”.

Argh!

On April 21, Carol Bowne from Berlin Township, NJ, applied for a license to own a handgun, which she wanted to protect herself from a former boyfriend against whom she had a restraining order.

On June 3—while still waiting for the state to give her permission to own a gun—Bowne’s former boyfriend, Michael Eitel, allegedly stabbed her to death in her own driveway.

According to the Courier-Post, after getting the restraining order, Bowne “installed security cameras and an alarm system to her home and began the months-long process of obtaining a handgun.” Bowne’s co-workers said, “She got a restraining order about a month ago, and right after that her car windows were broken.”

This tragedy is one more example of the foolishness of putting a licensing requirement on the Second Amendment. Like all gun control, it empowers those with criminal intentions while making the vulnerable more vulnerable.
