POLITICAL: How much pork is in “Sandy” relief?

Monday, December 31, 2012

*** begin quote ***

Dear Friend,

This is a critical week for New Jersey.

This week the United States Congress will vote on a Sandy Relief Package that will provide $60.4 billion to help New Jersey and other states recover and rebuild from the devastation of Superstorm Sandy.

While $60 billon is an incredible amount of money, numbers alone fail to paint the full picture of what we have seen throughout New Jersey. The full story lies in the faces of displaced people who find themselves homeless; their possessions and keepsakes gone. The full story lies with the small business owners who have had to shut their doors.

The preliminary damage estimate provided by Governor Christie is now up to $36.9 billion. So $60.4 billion in federal disaster relief funding to be spread across the region is a good start. But we must pass the Sandy Relief Package quickly, and in its entirety, so we can tell New Jerseyans that they are not alone; that all Americans are in this together. This vote says that we are ready as a nation to help families, businesses, and communities recover.

Yesterday, on the Senate floor, I once again made the case for New Jersey. I made the case for New Jersey families and small businesses still trying to recover; for homeowners in Little Ferry; shopkeepers in Moonachie; for every family who lost property and possessions all along the Jersey Shore and across the State; for our commuters who rely on public transportation to get to school and work; for those who lost power and went without fuel.

And, while some of my Republican colleagues may not be able to fathom the sheer scope of the damage, I explained that entire neighborhoods — where several generations of families lived in close-knit communities – are now gone; that thousands of decades-old small businesses are ruined. I pointed out that even though those scenes are no longer showing in living rooms across the country, it doesn’t mean that the recovery is over.

The need is clear for the passage of the entire Sandy Relief Package. A piecemeal recovery will be a stalled recovery and, in all likelihood, a failed recovery. And failure to recover and rebuild New Jersey’s infrastructure, economy, small businesses and communities is not an option.

This is one country: the United States of America. And when there was destruction along the entire Gulf Coast with Katrina, or a tornado in Joplin, Missouri, or crop destruction in the Midwest, we have come together as a nation to support these communities. The time is now for all members of Congress to stand with New Jersey, just as we have stood with them in times of crisis and natural disasters.

New Jersey has been battered, but we are not broken. We are stronger and more united in our efforts to work together to recover, rebuild, and recommit ourselves to uniting around our common concerns and shared values. That is the lesson we have learned, and together we will rebuild. The Garden State will bloom once again.

And I for one will not rest until the rebuilding is done.

Sincerely,

Robert Menendez

United States Senator

Get Ready…

A child could – should be able to – see through the infantile idiocy of banning handguns. (How’s that ban on arbitrarily illegal drugs – or murder, for that matter – working for you, Herr Schumer, Moore, et al?) People who feed on such pap are already over the event horizon and cannot be salvaged. It is the adults in the room – the people who can grasp the principle at stake – that must be the focus of our attentions. Who may still be reached before they, too, slip across the threshold and into the abyss. Taking the rest of us along with them, alas – if we fail to reach them before it’s too late.

*** end quote ***

I personally object to calling man’s diktats from this king or any other “authority” a “LAW”.

Now the “Law of Gravity”, that’s a REAL LAW. Defy it at your peril.

The Gooferment, at any level, can’t keep drugs, cell phones, weapons, or other “contraband” out of their prisons. How can they hope to enforce any ban?

JPFO actively reminds us of what happens to a disarmed citizenry.

Remember Waco?

“Dial 911 and die”.

AND, remember that the Supreme COurt say that the State has no obligation to protect you.

SOOooo, it is up to you to protect yourself.

Arm the teachers. Arm anyone who wants to take up arms in defense of the body politic.

Let’s be at peace, by always being prepared for war.

No one loves peace more than old soldiers. So too, no one wants to be left alone than a gun owner.

POLITICAL: Menendez jumps on the tragedy to do a gun grab!

Friday, December 21, 2012

Dear Friend,

The senseless, horrific tragedy that took place in Newtown, Connecticut last Friday has shaken us all to our cores. We ask ourselves, why? Today, I spoke on the Senate floor to join with every American in expressing our deep and abiding grief as a nation and our deepest — most heartfelt — condolences to the families of the victims.

As the father of two, this strikes painfully close to my heart, painfully close to the heart of every parent. There is no greater sorrow — no deeper pain — than the enormous grief that these families are suffering: 20 innocent children, 6 teachers and school employees and their families. No parent should ever have to bear the unspeakable pain of losing a child, especially to this type of tragedy.

Enough is enough.

We must ensure the Newtown tragedy marks a turning point when we are all willing to come together and do what’s right. As we pray for the victims, I believe we must commit ourselves — as a nation — to a long-overdue debate about gun violence and how we help those who suffer mental illnesses in our society.

We must finally pass common sense gun laws. No more politics. No more excuses.

Sincerely,

Robert Menendez

United States Senator

Woolly Hats and Heart Attacks

by Lizzie Bennett

Medically Speaking

*** begin quote ***

Each winter there is a myriad of articles published warning us about the dangers of hypothermia, how to spot it and what to do about it. There are articles warning about cold injuries such as frostbite, warnings to the elderly about the dangers of not keeping at least one room warm. Warnings to get the boiler serviced in case carbon monoxide builds up if its faulty. We are warned that we may need extra vitamins, warned to drive carefully, warned to take care if using candles and warned not to leave the lights on the Christmas tree switched on overnight. Not once, anywhere in this plethora of warnings have I heard the one that warns you that you are more likely to suffer a heart attack if you don’t wear a warm hat in cold weather.

Makes a believer out of me.

Interesting that my work location is always cold. Even in summer time.

The women are always saying it. And, recently, I couple of ties I felt it. Power of Suggestion? Anyone who knows me that I like it at “Meat Locker” temps. Wife used have a blanket when we took car trips. (Although I always thought she was being sarcastic.)

Maybe there is something to the article.

Maybe if I wear a hat, gloves, and a scarf in the office they think I’ve gone around the bend  and pay men off?

Then, it’ll off to New Hampshire to get warm.

political: am i just being a grinch?

Monday, November 19, 2012

I was listening over the net to NJ101.5 to get info about Seaside Heights.

The Guv’s wife, Mary Pat, was on touting the Guv’s amd Ms Guv’s charity.

Now I’m sure that she’s a very nice lady, but doesn’t anyone see a “structural problem”.

The government is taking over “charity”.

In the old days, “relief societies” were formed. Fraternal organizations abounded. Churches were virogous.

I remember reading how after the Chicago fire folks were helped with loans and such. There was networking and judgement. The able body were shown were work was available. Loans were provided and paid back. The truly devastated were taken in.

So what I see is that cradle to grave, Mommy Government will take care of all your needs. Daddy Government will hand out welfare checks.

Handouts are not a hand up.

Only by affiliation can people be truly moved out of poverty. They walk out of it by their own efforts with help and guidance of good people helping. Not doing for.

Sorry, but I guess I am the modern embodiment of old Ebenezer!

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A firefight broke out between U.S. forces and their Afghan army allies in eastern Afghanistan Sunday, killing two Americans and three Afghan soldiers and pushing the number of U.S. troops killed in the long-running war 2,000.

The fighting started Saturday when what is believed to have been a mortar fired by insurgents struck a checkpoint set up by U.S. forces in Wardak province, said Shahidullah Shahid, a provincial government spokesman. He said the Americans thought they were under attack from a nearby Afghan army checkpoint and fired on it, prompting the Afghan soldiers to return fire.

from 11:00 to 4:00 – hope to see you there!

Evlynn received 125 pints of blood and 75 bags of platelets in the last year of her live as the doctor tried to buy her enough time for them to find an answer. As you know or can guess, time ran out. Personally, I’ve replaced about ½ of the platelets used. So far, others have donated 20 pints. Some beautiful people made the donations that allowed my beloved to survive year. Her family and friends are try to give that stuff “back” for someone else’s life. I was super impressed that the docs and hospital would just pour it in without hesitation. It always amazed me.

If you can’t join us, then give where you can. It’s more of a “spiritual effort” anyway. I’m the only one keeping count. Hate to leave the game “owing”, I’d guess it’s a corporal work of mercy.

TINFOILHAT: FDR’s role in Pearl Harbor

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=374765

Did FDR provoke Pearl Harbor?
Pat Buchanan
Posted: December 05, 2011

*** begin quote ***

Said ex-President Herbert Hoover, Republican statesman of the day, “We have only one job to do now, and that is to defeat Japan.”

But to friends, “the Chief” sent another message: “You and I know that this continuous putting pins in rattlesnakes finally got this country bit.”

Today, 70 years after Pearl Harbor, a remarkable secret history, written from 1943 to 1963, has come to light. It is Hoover’s explanation of what happened before, during and after the world war that may prove yet the death knell of the West.

Edited by historian George Nash, “Freedom Betrayed: Herbert Hoover’s History of the Second World War and Its Aftermath” is a searing indictment of FDR and the men around him as politicians who lied prodigiously about their desire to keep America out of war, even as they took one deliberate step after another to take us into war.

Yet the book is no polemic. The 50-page run-up to the war in the Pacific uses memoirs and documents from all sides to prove Hoover’s indictment. And perhaps the best way to show the power of this book is the way Hoover does it – chronologically, painstakingly, week by week.

*** and ***

At a Nov. 25 meeting of FDR’s war council, Secretary of War Henry Stimson’s notes speak of the prevailing consensus: “The question was how we should maneuver them (the Japanese) into … firing the first shot without allowing too much danger to ourselves.”

“We can wipe the Japanese off the map in three months,” wrote Navy Secretary Frank Knox.

As Grew had predicted, Japan, a “hara-kiri nation,” proved more likely to fling herself into national suicide for honor than to allow herself to be humiliated.

Out of the war that arose from the refusal to meet Prince Konoye came scores of thousands of U.S. dead, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, the fall of China to Mao Zedong, U.S. wars in Korea and Vietnam, and the rise of a new arrogant China that shows little respect for the great superpower of yesterday.

If you would know the history that made our world, spend a week with Mr. Hoover’s book.

*** end quote ***

“Past is prologue”.

The Presidency has been out of control since Lincoln; it became “Imperial” with Teddy and Wilson.

We know that the “Northwinds” memo demonstrates that the Gooferment is not above starting a war to get more power over the people.

We really need to listen more to the lovable “tin foil hats”, like me, because they are not necessarily wrong.

Jut go thru the litany of tin foil hat arguments, and you’ll find gems.

Who’s hiding what and when?

“We, The Sheeple” need a wake up call.

It seems OBVIOUSLY apparent that FDR wanted a war because he took steps that everyone agreed would lead to it.

Then the crocodile tears and feigned outrage when Japan attacked.

Argh!
