SERVICE: Google SITES is tough to use

Thursday, January 20, 2011

I use a Google Site as an overflow area for my alumni ezine.

But it’s frustrating.

Take for instance, tables.

A basic concept.

SITES requires you to use HTML to get it working.

Not User friendly.

APPLE’s MOBILEME and IWEB isn’t much better.

Argh!

And, I hate the thought of investing a lot of time, effort, and attention on something that may go away of change.

House GOP Lists $2.5 Trillion in Spending Cuts
By PAUL BEDARD
Posted: January 20, 2011

*** begin quote ***

Moving aggressively to make good on election promises to slash the federal budget, the House GOP today unveiled an eye-popping plan to eliminate $2.5 trillion in spending over the next 10 years. Gone would be Amtrak subsidies, fat checks to the Legal Services Corporation and National Endowment for the Arts, and some $900 million to run President Obama’s healthcare reform program.

Now the Gooferment of Hawaii says they’ve “found” them.

And, you want me to believe them. At the very least, if introduced in a competent Court, there would be “chain of custody” issues.

Like that COLB (Certification of Live Birth) that was cooked up and posted on the inet, I think we are ENTITLED to have a full airing of the issue.

What’s to hide?

If everything is on the up and up, then it will be a boring as watching paint dry, grass grow, or liberal pontificate. (Sorry couldn’t resist!)

But, it isn’t, because everyone is scrambling to hide something! Aren’t you the least be curious as to what it is.

Guess we’ll have to wait for the Enquirer to out it like the did Edwards!

Government Violence: The Real Evil in the World
by Murray Sabrin

*** begin quote ***

Not surprisingly, law professor Butler Shafer expressed my sentiments 100%. There is no need to dissect the events in Tucson, except to say, the killing of any human being is a horrific tragedy.

From the murderous street mugger to the violent carjacker and armed robber, killing another human being is the highest immoral act an individual can commit. However, the real evil in the world is the violence perpetrated by governments around the world, including our own.

As a son of Holocaust survivors whose parents were the only ones to have lived through the horror of government-sanctioned mass murder, we as a people should be more outraged about the thousands of innocent people in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan who have been killed by our military as “collateral damage” in the juiced up global war on terror. In addition, where is the outrage by our political leaders, the pundits and others about our government invading a country – Iraq – that made no hostile acts against the American people?

*** and ***

The violence of government is all around us, 24/7. From taxation to regulations to military adventurism, the federal government has become a role model for individuals prone to violence. If the government can use violence to achieve its goals, then violence becomes acceptable in the minds of the unstable. If the government can perpetuate Ponzi schemes, then some in the financial community will try to create their own fraudulent investment programs to enrich themselves at the expense of their fellow citizens.

The role model for violence is not heated political rhetoric, but the actions of government officials who assert they are doing “good” by taxing, spending, regulating, borrowing, debasing the currency and invading other nations. This is not to condone violence against any government official. On the contrary, we should criticize unequivocally their use of violence against the people, while we work toward reestablishing liberty as the highest social good.

*** end quote ***

No violence towards anyone.

More correctly state “Zero Aggression”.

(I think that’s a “principle”.)

Peaceful non-violent non-cooperation!

(I know I’ve heard that before!)

BORN IN THE USA?
Hawaii governor can’t find Obama birth certificate
Suggests controversy could hurt president’s re-election chances
Posted: January 18, 2011 8:05 pm Eastern
By Jerome R. Corsi

*** begin quote ***

Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie suggested in an interview published today that a long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate for Barack Obama may not exist within the vital records maintained by the Hawaii Department of Health.

Abercrombie told the Honolulu Star Advertiser he was searching within the Hawaii Department of Health to find definitive vital records that would prove Obama was born in Hawaii, because the continuing eligibility controversy could hurt the president’s chances of re-election in 2012.

*** and ***

Suggesting he was still intent on producing more birth records on Obama from the Hawaii Department of Health vital records vault, Abercrombie told the newspaper there was a recording of the Obama birth in the state archives that he wants to make public.

Abercrombie did not report to the newspaper that he or the Hawaii Department of Health had found Obama’s long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate. The governor only suggested his investigations to date had identified an unspecified listing or notation of Obama’s birth that someone had made in the state archives.

“It was actually written, I am told, this is what our investigation is showing, it actually exists in the archives, written down,” Abercrombie said.

For seemingly the first time, Abercrombie frankly acknowledged that presidential politics motivated his search for Obama birth records, implying that failure to resolve the questions that remain unanswered about the president’s birth and early life may damage his chance for re-election.

*** end quote ***

Well, bless my tin foil hat, now there appears to be NO long form Obama birth certificate. How could that be? Everyone was buzzing there was but they were just prevented by law in the absence of a waver from BHO44.

“We, The Sheeple” have once again had the old wool over the eyes.

SNOPES’ credibility is destroyed. (They came down hard on the birthers and proofers saying there was a certificate. http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/birthcertificate.asp And, it’s still there. Ahh, it was a great service, until it became “political”!)

POLITICAL: Fix Congress with term limits and fiscal reform

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

FORWARDED MESSAGE FROM A CORRESPONDENT LOOKING FOR SOLUTIONS

*** begin quote ***

Please forward this. This has to be passed on. If you disagree with it, please fell free to delete it. If you agree with it, please forward it to 20 or more people. Hope you have a happy new year!

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified!

Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971…before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land…all because of public pressure.

I’m asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. Term Limits.

12 years only, one of the possible options below:

——- A. Two Six-year Senate terms

——- B. Six Two-year House terms

——- C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive the message. Maybe it is time.

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!! If you agree with the above, pass it on. If not, just delete You are one of my 20+. Please keep it going.

*** end quote ***

I’m with you on everything but #5. Let’s fix their salaries in absolute “dollars”. No CPI. The CPI just “legitimizes” inflation. That’s a theft of wealth from the people “under the covers”. I think you may have hit on a way to motivate the politicians and bureaucrats to stop counterfeiting the money supply.

President Barack Obama plans a government-wide review of federal regulations, aiming to eliminate rules that stymie economic growth.

In an article published in the opinion pages of The Wall Street Journal, Obama said he intends to issue an executive order initiating a review to “make sure we avoid excessive, inconsistent and redundant regulation,” focusing on rules that “stifle job creation and make our economy less competitive.” He also suggested future regulations must do their job “while promoting economic growth.”

Video: CBS announcer bashes Jets’ ‘absurd’ touchdown celebration
Yahoo Sports ^ | 17 Jan 11 | Chris Chase
Posted on January 17, 2011 2:15:18 PM EST by SkyPilot

*** begin quote ***

A bit of the celebration didn’t please CBS announcer Jim Nantz, though. After Shonn Greene(notes) scored a late game-sealing touchdown, many Jets, Rex Ryan included, converged in the end zone to whoop it up and send one final message to the Patriots and their fans. Nantz didn’t like this, particulary Greene’s “nap time” celebration, which saw the running back fall to the ground and mimic that he was going to sleep.

“I’ve never understood the absurdity of all the self-aggrandizing and now you’re going to cost your team 15 yards on the kick and you’re going to give Brady and his unit a chance to do something.”

*** end quote ***

I agree with Nantz. It was dumb and classless. Dumb because it opened a crack. Brady was having a bad day; the objective was to ensure that he did NOT get a chance to make a “miracle comeback”! Yes, it was unlikely, but long shots do come in. Some one wins the lotto. Lightening strikes. The worm turns. Imagine the dialogue if it did. These are supposed to be professionals. Hand the ball to the linesman and hustle back to the sidelines and see what your team needs next. Classless, in that you don’t embarrass anyone. Look like you’ve been there before. And why give the Pats locker room fodder for the next game. Dumb cubed!

The 2-party system: Like a rigged casino

In this respect, the two parties are like rival factions of an organized-crime syndicate. The Democrats devise government activities that are like different rackets that they divide into tax-funded territories. Then they parcel out control and distribution of the budgets for these territories among the different groups working to maintain the party’s governmental power base. The Republicans, on the other hand, use government office to establish a protection scheme. In exchange for political support, they promise to shield their partisans from the excessive collections the Democrats use to fund their rackets. While the Republicans play on the public’s fear of what the Democrats will take from them, the Democrats play on its fear of what selfish Republicans will keep them from getting.

Why you should always encrypt your smartphone
By Ryan Radia

*** begin quote ***

As such, if you are arrested or detained by a law enforcement officer, you cannot lawfully be compelled to tell the officer anything other than your basic identifying information—even if the officer has not read you the Miranda warning. Exercising your right to remain silent cannot be held against you in a court of law, nor can it be used to establish probable cause for a search warrant.

However, if you voluntarily disclose or enter your mobile phone password in response to police interrogation, any evidence of illegal activity found on (or by way of) your phone is admissible in court, regardless of whether or not you’ve been Mirandized.

What if you’re not a criminal and think you have nothing to hide? Why not simply cooperate with the police and hand over your password so that you can get on with your life?

For one thing, many Americans are criminals and they don’t even know it. Due to the disturbing phenomenon known as “overcriminalization,” it’s very easy to break the law nowadays without realizing it. A May 2010 study from the conservative Heritage Foundation and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers found that three out of every five new nonviolent criminal offenses don’t require criminal intent. The Congressional Research Service can’t even count the number of criminal offenses currently on the books in the United States, estimating the number to be in the “tens of thousands.”

A post is being made. It was placed on the blog correctly from what I can tell.

3. Some odd hang-up?

Nothing appears to hang.

4. Crash?

Doesn’t crash

5.

I wrote and pushed a post with a forward time stamp. (The whole rationale for ECTO is it is easier than using the WordPress web page. Time setting is still not as easy as it could be, but that’s another matter.)

In looking at the post about an hour LATER, I see it is truncated. Argh!

Quick like a bunny, I go up and see the post is complete in WordPress. Againlike a bunny, I make a backup copy of my pearls of wisdom.

Then, I do “retrieve posts”. The target post comes back complete.

But when I open it, it is truncated.

(We have had this symptom before. Where posts or partial posts are produced but then don’t display correctly int he Client side software. A while ago. But it was never resolved. Haven’t seen it in a while. I think, always suspected, that there is crud in the underlying copy. Maybe an unprintable character or some such?)

Help.

Argh! I hate having “problems”. The ECTO folks are good in support. Just not there on Sunday. Argh!

At least, the post is up for publishing correctly. And, I have a copy.

I think that I have to now reorganize how I do the blog posts.

More work for me. But, I have to keep a running backup of the post. Perhaps prep it in a WP, instead of using the ECTO Client.

Argh!

That’s a waste of the old technology budget.

The downside is that my pearls might be lost. But, then I have learned that pearls aren’t worth much on the resale market! Argh squared!

The New Global Deal

*** begin quote ***

The farmer began to tell a long, involved story of the events of the car accident, culminating with the other vehicle hitting him and his cow. When the police arrived on the scene, they saw the injured cow and mercifully shot him. “So when the police asked the farmer how he felt, he said, ‘I feel fine.’ Many of us are feeling like that, said Gore.”

*** and ***

Gore cited three major contributors to the climate crisis:
* the global population explosion, which taxes resources
* the dramatic expansion of the power-draining technologies we use
* the way we think about capitalism
*** and ***Gore urged World Business Forum delegates to affect change through political action, and pressure the Senate to release its use of filibusters to place a stranglehold on policies, which, he said, are influenced by special interest groups. “It’s important to change light bulbs, but it’s more important to change the laws.”

*** end quote ***

Dear Ms Robyn,

May I respectfully suggest that that proverbial cow was lucky. It didn’t have to listen to Al Gore.

You, unfortunately, have parse out fact and fiction. “Global Warming”, “Global Cooling”, and all the fads in between are just attempts to “sell” us on a meme that allows them to control us and enriches them. It’s well documented just how much old Al has made from his “Global Warming” efforts. So how do you know where the conflict of interest ends. “Population Overgrowth” aka Malthusianism, “power draining tech” aka Peak Power, and “capitalism” which is not what we have now are all just justifications for the Mundanes to be led by the Elite. Of course, Gore is just one of the Elites to “lead” any that will follow.

The Elite always want to erode anything that stands in the way of following their agenda. Space doesn’t permit a comment to go into depth. And, I’m not sure I have the credentials to do it. But, I do know, what is being shoveled, that poor proverbial cow could produce as well.

PRODUCTIVITY: Always have a email account to spare?

Friday, January 14, 2011

No secret I use a lot of email accounts. For a purpose. For a community. For relatives. For friends. For projects.

Interesting that some ISPs (i.e., Saint Peter’s University Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital) offer free wifi.

Unfortunately, like most things you get for “free”, they both have their own “unique” opportunities.

Not everyone has a VWBBIE (i.e., a Verizon Wireless Broad Band Service for 70$/month) or an IPAD with the AT&T 3G turned on!

SPUH doesn’t permit email. I chatted with a fellow nerd from a past employment and he had no idea why or even who “decreed” this. But the diktat couldn’t be overturned.

Now clearly with web access, you can use the web front end that most email providers have. But that’s not a very efficient or effective imho. Your really want a unified mailbox for the different account with the capability to send from the correct account.

GMAIL to the rescue.

It was trivial to set this up so that “emergency” could read and write in the “important” accounts.

Now when I need it, I have it.

Kudos to GMAIL.

MONEY: End the FED!

10 Things That Would Be Different If the Federal Reserve Had Never Been Created
Economic Collapse Blog

*** begin quote ***

The vast majority of Americans, including many of those who believe that they are “educated” about the Federal Reserve, do not really understand how the Federal Reserve really makes money for the international banking elite.

*** and ***

Now, the only way that the U.S. government can inject more money into the economy is by going into more debt. But when new government debt is created, the amount of money to pay the interest on that debt is not also created. In this way, it was intended by the international bankers that U.S. government debt would expand indefinitely and the U.S. money supply would also expand indefinitely. In the process, the international bankers would become insanely wealthy by lending money to the U.S. government.

*** and ***

#1 If the U.S. government had been issuing debt-free money all this time, the U.S. government could conceivably have a national debt of zero dollars. Instead, we currently have a national debt that is over 14 trillion dollars.

*** end quote ***

Time to “face the music” or, in this case, the unelected “Fourth Branch of Gooferment” the banking cartel, the Federal Reserve Bank, which ain’t “federal”, “reserves” nothing, and is in no way a “bank”.

We need Ron Paul to pull back the covers and see how badly we have been screwed by a cartel that has monopoly powers enforced by its “friends” in the Gooferment!

Why do we need “anyone” in Gooferment involved in “money”?

When we had gold circulating as money, we had zero politicians and bureaucrats on the payroll to “manage” it.

And, we had gradually declining prices.

We need to get back to that!

How To Use Dropbox and TrueCrypt To Securely Transfer Files Privately
by Bill Rounds

*** begin quote ***

USING DROPBOX AND TRUECRYPT

Using Dropbox and TrueCrypt should appear fairly self-evident by now. For example, you can travel with a laptop that contains no information across borders and when you arrive at your destination just install Dropbox and sync with your files from the cloud. Because Dropbox has control of the encryption key you can use TrueCrypt for an added layer of protection. That way if the Dropbox servers were compromised for whatever reason the your files would still be encrypted.

Another wonder aspect of setting up your information architecture to use TrueCrypt and Dropbox is that you no longer need to worry about backing up the files. This can save lots of time and headache.

*** end quote ***

So much for the child pornographers being caught at the border crossing.

I’m advising that all international travelers NOT carry ANY computing platform through “security”. (Not that it makes us any more secure; it’s just theater to amuse the rubes.)

That means phone, ipads, netbooks … … nothing.

You can’t know what they will “find” when they do their “data proctology” exam. Or, what they will place on your hardware when it’s outside of your control.

Come to think of it that’s good advice even inside the US.
