I think this is likely a substantial underestimate unless something is done for a number of reasons.  First everything we hear and see regarding technology suggests the rate of job destruction will pick up.  Think of the elimination of drivers, and of those who work behind cash registers.  Second, the gains in average education and health of the workforce over the last 50 years are unlikely to be repeated.  Third, to the extent that non-work is contagious, it is likely to grow exponentially rather than at a linear rate.  Fourth, declining marriage rates are likely to raise rates of labor force withdrawal given that non-work is much more common for unmarried than married men.

The US does not have the land forces to fight a major or semi-major enemy. It could bomb Iran, with unpredictable consequences, but couldn’t possibly conquer it.

The wars in the Mid-East illustrate the principle nicely. Iraq didn’t work. Libya didn’t work. Iran didn’t back down. ISIS and related curiosities? The Pentagon is again bombing an enemy that can’t fight back—its specialty—but that it seems unable to defeat.

Militaries are famous for fighting the LAST war.

The National Assessment of Educational Progress, known as The Nation’s Report Card, shows that nationally in 2015, only 7 percent of black 12th-graders scored proficient in math, and only 17 percent did so in reading. This suggests that the average black 12th-grader has the academic proficiency of a white eighth- or ninth-grader. Consider the following question: If one admits 1,000 randomly selected eighth- and ninth-graders to college and admits 1,000 randomly selected 12th-graders, who do you think is going to come out on top? Who would be surprised if the eighth- and ninth-graders felt inferiority, oppression, and insensitivity?

Clearly the Goofement Skrules are failures. They are not preparing posterity for “real life”.

Then, the politician and bureaucrats want to “send everyone to college”. How stupid.

What’s the ROI of wasting everyone’s time and a ton of money on “students” who will never succeed with majors that are virtually useless.

And, I still have never seen a poor plumber.

The problem, as I see it, is just another instance of the “socialist calculation problems”. How can one or anyone calculate an ROI? When a private entrepreneur invests their own capital, they calculate — perhaps at a gut level — what will be the likelihood of a return. Unfortunately, students and their families going into debt are essentially misled by the Gooferment Skrules about the return.

Of course, the Liberals in the Colleges profit from the bodies pushed through their “meat grinders”!

Received a forwarded email  from a relative with a lot of picture meme, mostly from Facebook, about Colin Kaepernick. Since I have no life, I immediately took issue with the importance of this fellow.

Dear Usual:
 
Of course, he has the right to protest in any manner he sees fit.
 
While we have many many “problems” in this country, we have the opportunity to change.
 
Over my lifetime, I have shifted politically from “right” to little L libertarian. At the same time the country seems to have shifted from “right” to “left” while losing it’s collecting soul and in some instances mind.
 
I don’t know how we get back to the Dead Old White Guys’ vision to a land of peace and prosperity. But making this fellow either a scapegoat for misplaced anger, or anything more than the trivial spoiled individual who seeking his “identity”, is a wasted misplaced effort.
 
Hence, I’d like to focus on the big issues and what can we do to change them. Most notably, the welfare / warfare state which is besieged by Crony Capitalists, politicians, and bureaucrats that suck the system dry.
 
I’d start by bringing all the girls and boys home from these foreign mistakes until we have a real national unity about spilling blood and spending treasure. Then, I’d eliminate “welfare” for everyone — corporations and individuals — politicians and “fat cats” alike — and reset the Nation on the path of fiscal responsibility and individual responsibility. Tough love for America might, just might, recapture the American dream.
 
I regret that it’s the posterity that will inherit our hubris.

An interesting story about a purported “Hillary Double” is now bouncing around the internet, even though it has not yet broken through the “glass ceiling” that covers the Mainstream Media (MSM), except for a few places where it is mentioned in hushed tones, as yet another “conspiracy theory.”

The accompanying report notes the fact that when Mrs. Clinton left the event at the 9/11 memorial ceremony she collapsed and had to be lifted by several of her attendants into her van. Clearly, that vehicle is specially equipped to accommodate her needs and is never very far away from where she is. After it drove off, instead of taking the obviously very ill candidate to a hospital, it turned out that less than an hour later, she emerged from her daughter Chelsea’s apartment building looking as “fit as a fiddle.” Still another rumor has it that Chelsea’s apartment includes a special room that is equipped just for her mother’s needs: A standard hospital room, with the bed and all the other related medical appliances one might find in a hospital.

What gives the story “legs” (no pun intended) is that when Hillary did emerge from the apartment building, she seemed to have lost about 20 pounds in the process and had apparently even changed her earrings, even though she seemed to be wearing the same clothes as she previously had worn at the ceremony. But another interesting point was observed which also makes the entire vignette quite a bit more enigmatic: She was alone, not one Secret Service agent or the large black man in suit and tie who is usually always at her side, carrying something that looks a lot like a medical device even though her campaign says it’s only a flashlight (But why is he always carrying it in the daylight)? And worse, she wanders out to the sidewalk and proceeds to hug a young girl, even though she was just diagnosed with contagious pneumonia! As America is temporarily “relieved” to see the candidate recuperate almost instantly to what had seemed to be a severe, life-threatening medical emergency, the cloak of concern simply morphs into one of astonishment. Not to the wonders of modern medical treatments that could work so immediately, but to the question of what is truth, contrasted with what is possibly related to the worlds of sorcery and black magic: A product not of medical technology, but that of the world of ages-old gypsies and grifters: It’s known colloquially as “blue smoke and mirrors.”

Sorry, but I agree that they are using a “body double”.

The tip off is nothing that looks like Secret Service!
