ADMINISTRIVIA: Spinning plates?

Thursday, January 10, 2008

I’m tired. Maybe I need a break. Spinning lots of plates may be just too much. I’m going to think about my blog. I’m not sure what, if anything, I have accomplished. I’m rethinking a lot of things from an ROI perspective. Self, work, Frau. Mom, Aunt, and all the Processes & Project that I have. Maybe there are just too many plates to keep spinning?

LIBERTY: Steal the value from money and confuse the people

The Market for Liberty

Economics isn’t merely a dry, boring study of money. It is, boiled down to its essence, a study of human nature: how people interact and trade with each other. Since this obviously involves money, there is no shortage of people who want some of that money for themselves, when they haven’t earned it. And the chief ways in which they take that money are to confuse people and to establish governments.

Interesting that a great book is now a free MP3 file.

LIBERTY: what caused our government to change its mind so suddenly?

War is a Racket

Looking back, Woodrow Wilson was re-elected president in 1916 on a platform that he had “kept us out of war” and on the implied promise that he would “keep us out of war.” Yet, five months later he asked Congress to declare war on Germany.

In that five-month interval the people had not been asked whether they had changed their minds. The 4,000,000 young men who put on uniforms and marched or sailed away were not asked whether they wanted to go forth to suffer and die.

Then what caused our government to change its mind so suddenly?

Money.

Time to have an accounting of all the dead, missing, wounded, crippled, scared, and maybe even inconvenienced at the hands of big gooferment and its accomplices. When we total up the costs, what did we real get for all the blood, sweat, and tears?

Hands-on
PicMarker watermarks, keeps your photos safe from evildoers

The correct attribution for online photos is a touchy subject.

***and***

Maybe one of the simpler ways to keep your photos and videos moderately safe from incorrect attribution is watermarking. I’m sure you’ve all seen it before, but if not, it’s basically layering on a semi-transparent line of text, or image over a spot in a photo. Some folks put it in a corner, and if they’re really worried, will place it all over the photo. A new service called PicMarker has set up shop to help people accomplish such a task, although instead of having to rely on a desktop software application, anyone can watermark up to ten shots at a time right in their browser.

Interesting?!?

Now what can I use this thing for that it wasn’t intended to accomplish?

Social networking?

GM Researching Driverless Cars

DETROIT (AP) – Cars that drive themselves—even parking at their destination—could be ready for sale within a decade, General Motors Corp. executives say.

***End Quote***

Well, I’d welcome that.

Having driven in Florida and had elderly relatives that can’t drive, or shouldn’t be driving, yet still need to get around, a driverless car would be a boon.

How about a driverless taxi?

Imagine the commute to work where you weren’t driving, but reading. Like an exec in limo?

An idea who time has come. Let’s roll it out now!

RONPAUL: Excluded from FoxNews, he does his own thing~

Wednesday, January 9, 2008

Ron Paul Town Hall, pt. 1

FoxNews excludes, bit you decide. Ron Paul had his own event. It’s two half hour YouTubes of a Jeffersonian liberal. Remember that the tradition of a liberal is that the individual is sovereign. Not the King; not the gooferment; not the collective. I haven’t heard anyone express these ideas in a long time. We need to get back to the roots of the republic.

FUN: whether you are a gazelle or a lion

Wednesday, January 9, 2008

“Every morning in Africa a gazelle awakens knowing it must today run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning a lion awakens knowing it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It matters not whether you are a gazelle or a lion, when the sun rises you had better be running.” – African Proverb

FUN: Are you a Democrat, a Republican, or a Redneck?

Tuesday, January 8, 2008

From:
Sent: Sunday, January 06, 2008 11:39 AM
To:
Subject: SRA – Are you a Democrat, a Republican, or a Redneck?

FYI – Submitted for entertainment value only… ;-)

Of course, the chances of a Democrat actually having a CCW and
carrying a personal defense weapon is very very remote, the exceptions
being Peretta, Feinstein and a few others who really dont want you to
know it… the jury would still be out on the “expert shot” status as a Dem
would not get much range time due to OSHA environment concerns…

Are you a Democrat, a Republican, or a Redneck?

Here is a little test that will help you decide.
The answer can be found by posing the following question:

You’re walking down a deserted street with your wife
and two small children.

Suddenly, an Islamic Terrorist with a huge knife comes
around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities,
praises Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you.

You are carrying a Glock 40S&W (A Big Hand Gun), and you
are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches
you and your family. What do you do?
…………………………………………………….

THINK CAREFULLY AND THEN SCROLL DOWN

Democrat’s Answer:

Well, that’s not enough information to answer the question!

Does the man look poor or oppressed?

Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?

Could we run away?

What does my wife think?

What about the kids?

Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?

What does the law say about this situation?

Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it?

Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?

Is it possible he’d be happy with just killing me?

Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?

If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?

Should I call 9-1-1?

Why is this street so deserted?

We need to raise taxes, have paint and weed day and make this happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.

This is all so confusing!…

I need to debate this with friends for few days & try to come to a consensus.

Oh Shit… that hurt!

Republican’s Answer:

BANG!

Redneck’ s Answer:

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! Click….. (Sounds of reloading)
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! Click….. (Sounds of reloading)

Daughter: ‘Nice group, Daddy! Were those the Winchester SilverTips or GoldDot Hollow Points?’

Son: ‘Can I shoot the next one!’

Wife: ‘You ain’t taking that to the Taxidermist..

MONEY: 1M$ @ 4% = 40k

Tuesday, January 8, 2008

http://www.csmonitor.com/2007/1231/p14s01-wmgn.html?page=3

***Begin Quote***

Bengen, author of the book, “Conserving Client Portfolios During Retirement,” published last year by the Financial Planning Association Press, has studied this issue since 1993. And based on his calculations, he believes 4.5 percent of total tax-deferred assets – stocks, bonds, and the like – is the correct payout amount in the first year of payouts. In following years, that payout rate would rise in line with inflation.

***End Quote***

Folks coming to the “withdrawing” phase of retirement savings have always been advised to take 4%. So a million dollar IRA can throw off 40k per year. So, you need lots stuffed away to be comfortable.
