Yes, the Church offset the power of the Kings of old to oppress the people. One has to wonder. Was it a direct conspiracy of the Socialists to destroy the Church? Anyone who studys history can see the classic role of the Church as the arbiter of good and evil. Was it necessary to destroy the Church, all Churches, as a refuge of oppressed people?
