Why you should always encrypt your smartphone
By Ryan Radia

*** begin quote ***

As such, if you are arrested or detained by a law enforcement officer, you cannot lawfully be compelled to tell the officer anything other than your basic identifying information—even if the officer has not read you the Miranda warning. Exercising your right to remain silent cannot be held against you in a court of law, nor can it be used to establish probable cause for a search warrant.

However, if you voluntarily disclose or enter your mobile phone password in response to police interrogation, any evidence of illegal activity found on (or by way of) your phone is admissible in court, regardless of whether or not you’ve been Mirandized.

What if you’re not a criminal and think you have nothing to hide? Why not simply cooperate with the police and hand over your password so that you can get on with your life?

For one thing, many Americans are criminals and they don’t even know it. Due to the disturbing phenomenon known as “overcriminalization,” it’s very easy to break the law nowadays without realizing it. A May 2010 study from the conservative Heritage Foundation and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers found that three out of every five new nonviolent criminal offenses don’t require criminal intent. The Congressional Research Service can’t even count the number of criminal offenses currently on the books in the United States, estimating the number to be in the “tens of thousands.”

RANT: Inciting religious wars here on our continent?

Friday, July 30, 2010

Tennessee Lt. Gov: Religious Freedom May Not Count For Muslims (VIDEO)

Evan McMorris-Santoro | July 26, 2010, 11:20AM

*** begin quote ***

“My concern is that far too much of Islam has come to resemble a violent political philosophy more than peace-loving religion,” he said in an email. “It’s time for American Muslims who love this country to publicly renounce violent jihadism and to drum those who seek to do America harm out of their faith community.”

*** end quote ***

Never underestimate the power of human stupidity. Robert A. Heinlein

This guy MUST be dumb as a stump.

Do we NOT have enough examples of religious wars. (Personally, fighting over whose “God of Peace” is better is “funny”. “Funny – peculiar”; not “funny – hahah”! Would their “gods” recognize them?)

The Irish Catholics versus Protestants is a good modern example. With atrocities rampant on both sides. Cordless drills into kneecaps. Civilian casualties. And, the origins lost in a litany of grievance — real and imagined.

We can quickly skip thru the pages of history for the evidence: several instances against Jews, Kurds in Iraq and Iran, Cambodian Hmongs, the Polish officers, the Armenians, Serbs, and on and on.

Our First Amendment was written by the Dead Old White Guys because they knew there was no fast way of sowing discord and starting violence than to pick one imaginary god over another. Maryland Catholics, Massachusetts Protestants, Baptists, and on and on. (Again funny peculiar that even within Protestants, they can’t agree to disagree agreeably?)

If the iconic Gandhi had to almost starve himself to death to stop the sectarian violence between Hindu and Muslim when freeing India birthed Pakistan, then why is this bozo lighting the fuse?

Argh!

Seems politicians and bureaucrats can be especially dumb whenever they open their mouths. Especially since they are supposed to be the best and the brightest leaders. Leaders seek to get EVERYONE’s interests aligned. Empathize common points. And certainly not seek to polarize.

That’s the characteristic mark of a totalitarian, divide and conquer.

We have so very many problems. So may even be insolvable! So don’t make it worse.

Focus on actions; not words.

“All men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights …”

Does this fellow believe that?

Seems to me, not.

How else could he say something like this.

If I was King, then I sentence him to write on the blackboard the DoI. Once a day, every day, for the rest of his life.

Those Dead Old White Guys were pretty smart for a bunch of dumb farmers. Too bad we’re not half as smart. Every tie we’ve amended their document, we’ve screwed it up.

Sad to say, we don’t learn.

We continue to muck it up.

We have to get back to the straight and narrow.

I think the first step is honest money.

RANT: NAACP targets the wrong villains; those politicians are not your friends

As longshoreman-philosopher Eric Hoffer observed, every great movement begins as a cause, eventually becomes a business, then degenerates into a racket. Time for the Ford Foundation to pull the plug on its subsidiary (referring to the NAACP), whose time has come and gone a long time ago.

*** end quote ***

There’s no doubt that there are people who are racists. Black and white. I can only imagine how screwed those people who were taken advantage of feel. But, calling names and getting all riled up, does ZERO to solve the problems of the day.

If I was in the NAACP, then I’d be after the scalps of the politicians and bureaucrats who put them in a virtual slavery and pander to keep them there. The psuedo “war” on (some) drugs have destroyed the Black Communities. The welfare system has simultaneously destroyed the Black Family, the Black Churches, and the initiative of anyone captured in their system. And, the worst “killer” of minorities is the education system. Walter Williams captured it perfectly: “If the Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan wanted to sabotage black academic excellence, he could not find a more effective means to do so than the government school system in most cities.”

Let’s begin to solve the problems: repeal the drug laws, free all non-violent drug offenders, let’s work to end the welfare system, and let’s free the schools. Then we can go after ALL the diktats that restrict inner city entrepreneurs (e.g., hair braiding licenses; dollar van restrictions; taxi medallions; food laws used to protect incumbents; minimum wage laws; zoning regs; rent control).

Let’s get everyone a slice of the American Dream! Expanding the pie can ensure that everyone meets the promise of the DofI — all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, among these are the right to life, liberty, and property.

Restore America to its ideal.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: The First Amendment is being redefined by the Obama administration

Obama Moves away from ‘Freedom of Religion’ toward ‘Freedom of Worship’?

Words matter – listen carefully to our current administration

*** begin quote ***

In her article for “First Things” magazine, Ashley Samelson, International Programs Director for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, stated, “To anyone who closely follows prominent discussion of religious freedom in the diplomatic and political arena, this linguistic shift is troubling: “The reason is simple. Any person of faith knows that religious exercise is about a lot more than freedom of worship. It’s about the right to dress according to one’s religious dictates, to preach openly, to evangelize, to engage in the public square. Everyone knows that religious Jews keep kosher, religious Quakers don’t go to war, and religious Muslim women wear headscarves-yet “freedom of worship” would protect none of these acts of faith.”

*** end quote ***

One can see the silent assault on “religion” by the growing secular gooferment. They will tolerate no rival for the people’s affection. Like the scifi Highlander “There can be only one!”, it will kill off all it’s rivals.

Then, to whom will us serfs turn to for succor?

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Speak to stay silent?

The “opt in” Constitution?

*** begin quote ***

If you want to remain silent, you’d better speak up.

That’s what the United States Supreme Court has told criminal defendants who want to invoke their Constitutional right to remain silent. In Berghuis v. Thompkins, the Court ruled on June 01 that police can continue to question an arrested suspect as long as the suspect doesn’t explicitly tell the police he doesn’t want to talk.

*** end quote ***

This is a mistake by the Supremes.

Pure and simple.

You MUST stand silent. Never ever talk to the police, politician, or bureaucrat.

The law is not there to help you!

Argh!

They got Kelo wrong as well. Dred Scott!

Those people in funny costumes make a lot of mistakes!

Temple Student Group Placed on Probation for Inviting Me to Speak?

A Temple University student group was notified this morning that it was on probation because of me. Apparently Temple just decided I am either so dangerous or so important that I need security for a lecture on campus tonight (I promise I am neither), but since the group sponsoring me did not request security, it is on probation effective immediately.

*** end quote ***

Interesting!

What happened to “free speech”?

Temple University’s “about” page doesn’t say if it’s public or private. Regardless, it takes Federal funds so it’s a de facto Federal agent. Hence it can’t abridge free speech. So this “security fee”, and the flap over it, is chilling to the free speech rights of everyone.

CAMARILLO, Calif. (CBS) ― A Camarillo woman is facing a trial for allegedly assaulting a Transportation Security Administration agent at Burbank airport. But the confrontation didn’t involve a gun or a bomb. CBS 2/KCAL 9 has video of the incident.

Nadine Hays is accused of hitting a TSA agent who allegedly tried to take away her elderly mother’s applesauce.

“I just said I am not going to plead guilty to something I did not do,” Hays said.

Why do the Sheeple put up with this nonsense?

It’s already demonstrated by more competent experts that this is all “security theater”.

So why do the congresscritters allow this infringement to continue? It allows them to get the Sheeple used to having their rights infringed.

And, they wonder why people regard flying as just above a trip to the dentist?

Wish I was on this woman’s jury. Wish I was on any jury. FIJA anyone.

*** begin quote ***

You can’t handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who’s gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago’s death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives…You don’t want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty…we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use ’em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I’d rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you’re entitled to!

*** end quote ***

This rings true more today that ever.

Who’s “manning the walls” in the Obama administration?

Sorry, but the Department of Defense and the National Guard should be deployed here at home. Like the Coast Guard should NOT be off gallivanting.

We have bases in reportedly 170 countries. Time for a base closing commission of taxpayers.

Did you know that the Constitution only authorizes a permanent Navy. The Army is only allowed for two years. Guess the Dead Old White guys understood about the dangers of a permanent army. What do you think they’d have thought about the alphabet agencies: FBI, DEA, BATF, CIA, NSA, yada, yada, and yada?

Argh!

Saudi girl, 13, sentenced to 90 lashes after she took a mobile phone to school
By Mail Foreign Service
Last updated at 12:45 AM on 21st January 2010

*** begin quote ***

A 13-year-old Saudi schoolgirl is to be given 90 lashes in front of her classmates after she was caught with a mobile camera phone.

The girl, who has not been named, was also sentenced to two months in jail by a court in the eastern city of Jubail.

She had assaulted her headmistress after being caught with the gadget which is banned in girl schools, said Al-Watan, a Saudi newspaper. The kingdom’s use of such punishments has been widely condemned by human rights organisations. (snip) The punishment is harsher than tha (sic that) dished out to some robbers and looters. Saudi Arabia is the world’s leading country in the use of torture-by-flogging, public beheadings and publicly crucifying condemned prisoners.

*** end quote ***

This is shocking. It offends my sensibilities. And, I’m an ijineer!

Now I have run into children that I’d have liked to give lashes too, but never 90. Never even one. It’s just a brief idle daydream. Maybe for cell phone abuse.

No one has the right to inflict pain on anyone. Any child, no matter how annoying, no matter bad the transgression, no matter how … … how frustrating deserves to be treated this way.

Where are the women’s libers? Where are the politicians?

Gooferment only has ONE purpose: to protect its citizens and residents from aggression. In a primitive society, one step away from extinction, one can expect brutality to ensure compliance necessary for group survival. In an advanced civilization, brutality is inefficient and ineffective.

We, The People, need to instruct our Gooferment that (a) that’s unacceptable; and (b) they need to exert some moral pressure to help the bozos see the error of their ways. Perhaps, PNGing (Persona Non Grata) male Saudi Ambassadors until they send us a woman as an ambassador might get our point across.

No man can be free until all men are free?
