A Missing Link Between Concussion and Alzheimer’s
Viruses may play a surprising part
By Katharine Gammon January 27, 2025

Itzhaki says in the future she wants to look into how to interrupt the damaging processes that unfold following traumatic brain injuries, such as those suffered in soccer, boxing, and football. She is aiming to test antivirals and other medications to reduce the inflammation caused by viruses that could be reactivated after a brain injury.

Though they are far from a perfect proxy, brain organoids will help her and others to continue this work.

This is interesting to me in that Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease that robs people of memories and condemns them to an expensive end of life disaster.

Even football’s NFL, the NFPL, and individual players are recognizing the risk of the “sport”.

Boxing should be restricted because we’ve seen the effect.  Muhammed Ali is the poster child for the damage.  There has to be a more civilized way to have this sport made safer.

Hopefully there will be a cure before too many more are lost.

INTERESTING: A new brain cell: demonstrates (again) about how little we know

Scientists discover a new type of brain cell

  • There are hints that it could lead to new treatments for Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and other brain disorders.
  • An image of a neuron with a blue light coming out of it.
  • Most of the cells in the brain are either neurons or glial cells. The former send messages, while the latter protect the former. Astrocytes are a type of glial cell found near synapses. Researchers believe they have discovered a new type of astrocyte that actively participates in neurotransmission, making them a sort of hybrid between neurons and glial cells.

A new brain cell: Researchers at the Wyss Center for Bio and Neuroengineering and the University of Lausanne believe they’ve definitively proven that some astrocytes do actively participate in neurotransmission, making them a sort of hybrid of neurons and glial cells.

According to the researchers, this third type of brain cell, which they call a “glutamatergic astrocyte,” could offer a way to treat Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other disorders of the nervous system.

“Its discovery opens up immense research prospects,” said study co-director Andrea Volterra.

Once again demonstrating how little we really know about anything.

Hope this research leads to new treatments for brain disorders before I need them.

HEALTH: New Biomarker Test for Alzheimer’s

New Biomarker Test Can Detect Alzheimer’s Neurodegeneration in Blood
12/27/2022

PITTSBURGH — A group of neuroscientists led by a University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine researcher developed a test to detect a novel marker of Alzheimer’s disease neurodegeneration in a blood sample. A study on their results was published today in Brain.

Now there is a medical trial I could volunteer for. That has to be a disease that needs to be “cured”.  Finding a test is step 1.

How little we really know is demonstrated almost daily.

HEALTH: Preventing Alzheimer’s Disease with Diet; similar evidence exposed the Covid plandemic

Preventing Alzheimer’s Disease with Diet

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • The dramatic increase in dementia in Japan over recent decades has been associated with an increase in animal products, including meat, and a decrease in rice consumption.
  • Animal fat and meat consumption has gone up by 500 percent in Japan, while calories only increased by approximately 10 percent.
  • Across countries, intake of meat, especially, as well as eggs and high-fat dairy, appears to be the “most important dietary link” to Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Alzheimer’s and cognitive decline have been associated with diets heavy in meat, sweets, and fat, while most plant foods are associated with reduced risk.
  • Many factors have been proposed as the cause of high-fat, diet-induced damage to the brain, particularly with aging, including inflammation and changes to blood vessels and the integrity of the blood-brain barrier.
  • On autopsy, the cerebral arteries of Alzheimer’s patients are so clogged with atherosclerotic plaque packed with cholesterol and fat that they are nearly closed.
  • The standard American diet, rich in saturated fat, cholesterol, and animal products, has been shown to compromise the integrity of blood vessels in the brain.

When did the Covid truth bubble break?

When Israel had a huge number of “breakthrough” deaths.  When Florida didn’t have any spike in deaths despite not locking down and having a lot of old people there?  When college and pro football stadiums were packed with people and no spike?  When the Sturgis motorcycle rally didn’t result in anything with Covid.

Or was it when we saw pictures of politicians, bureaucrats, and “celebrities” frolicking without masks or “social distancing”.

So to here we have strong evidence that the “Standard American Diet” is a cause of all sorts of bad results — one of which is Alzheimer’s!

What can we do?

HEALTH: VITAMIN B12 AND ALZHEIMER’S — a possible link?

VITAMIN B12 AND ALZHEIMER’S

Also, adding the vitamin to the diet only worked if the animals were deficient in B12. Giving more B12 to animals with healthy levels does not help them in any way.

“Well, I’m not a <insert your favorite credentialed professional>, I have never played one on TV, and I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but here are some simple thoughts.”

Given the catastrophic effect of Alzheimer’s on any individual and the low cost in terms of money and effort to take a supplement, it seems like an easy decision.

“Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin … …” — NIH

It’s one of those things the body can easily discard when you’ve had enough.

Seems like a cheap and easy way to possible avoid a disastrous disease while the experts are figuring out why it works in worms.

YMMV
