Most of the TV-watching public in the United States probably knows the jingle already: If you have a structured settlement and you need cash now, call J.G. Wentworth (877-CASH-NOW). However, this is pretty much always a horrible idea, according to the reporting and research John Oliver presents about J.G. Wentworth and other factoring companies on this week’s Last Week Tonight. In short, these companies are going to take the vast majority of that structured settlement for itself while fronting just a small fraction of the settlement to its intended recipient.

Don’t miss this diatribe. It was imho a hysterically funny take down of a terrible set of “vultures”. I laughed so hard at the ending I choked.

Then ask where is the Gooferment “safety net” for those poor individuals, getting a structured settlement, and often mentally disabled.  Every State should immediately require a “guardian ad litem” in every structured settlement judicial action.  As John Oliver called attention to that and the resulting 42% dismissal / withdrawal rate.

It’s the least we can do to protect the vulnerable in our population.

Isn’t that Gooferment only rationale for existence?  To protect “We, The Sheeple” from all enemies —  foreign and domestic!

Argh!
