While welcoming an initial effort by the administration of President Barack Obama to offer a legal justification for drone strikes to kill suspected terrorists overseas, human rights groups say critical questions remain unanswered.

In an address to an international law group last week, State Department Legal Adviser Harold Koh insisted that such operations were being conducted in full compliance with international law.

“The U.S. is in armed conflict with al-Qaeda as well as the Taliban and associated forces in response to the horrific acts of 9/11 and may use force consistent with its right to self-defense under international law,” he said.

“The question is a legal one: under what circumstances can you use lethal force at all? Our view has always been that it should be limited to zones of active armed conflict where normal arrest operations are not feasible.”

A related question involves who may be targeted. While many authorities insist lethal force can be used under the laws of war against those who are actively participating in armed conflict, the U.S. has used defined participation in very broad terms, including membership in – or even financial support of – an armed group.

“The big issue is where the war is and whether it’s a war, and we couldn’t disagree more strongly as to the tenor of Koh’s comments,” he said. “It goes back to the idea of an unbounded global war on terror where terror is hardly defined at all.”

When AT&T said it believed the iPad would be mostly a Wi-Fi (rather than a 3G) device, that would have figured to make any of the network concerns that have plagued the iPhone a moot point. Think again. The biggest problem with the newly launched iPad would seem to be with Wi-Fi connectivity, with reports of no connection or weak signals among some early iPad users. The problems would clearly seem to be with the device itself, with some iPads having problems connecting to any Wi-Fi signal, not just AT&T’s Wi-Fi service.

The WiFI problems on the iPad make me suspect that my gut feeling about the MacBookAir could be correct.

I’ve always thought I noticed that the MacBookAir was always scanning for a WiFi signal. Periodically, the computer would (as I described in my blog) go on “a mental vacation”. When I’d look at the “airport”, it would be scanning for networks. Could it be dropping the signal? I’m located less than 25 feet from the WiFi base. I have other Windoze computers using the WiFi without any problems at all.

(Sometimes, windoze needs a reboot to clear up its “thinking”. Weekly? But, never drops the WiFi connection. The ISP’s network sometimes seems to go on a “mental vacation” and everything Router, Windoze, and MacBookAir all need a reboot to pass traffic. But that’s not a MacBookAir problem.)

So maybe there is BOTH a hardware and software problem with ALL Apple products that use WiFi. I don’t have a College’s EE lab and a group of hungry CompSci PhD candidates who will work for free to study the problem. BUT, [and there is ALWAYS a big butt), I’m convinced there’s a serious problem with Apple’s wifi. And, I’d steer clear of it until it’s solved.

Consumers Reports, Underwriters Laboratory, or any school’s CompSci dean listening?

Komen for the Cure Deepens Ties With Planned Parenthood Abortion Business

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — The Komen for the Cure breast cancer foundation has been under fire from pro-life advocates for years for its ties to the Planned Parenthood abortion business. In a new column, pro-life writer Jill Stanek uncovers new information showing the link between the two groups is deepening.

Komen’s ties to Planned Parenthood are well documented and figures from STOPP International show Komen chapters giving $711,485 from April 1, 2005 to March 31, 2006 to Planned Parenthood affiliates.

And in numbers provided to the Associated Press, Susan G. Komen for the Cure spokeswoman Rebecca Gibson confirmed 19 of the 122 Komen affiliates made grants totaling $374,253 to Planned Parenthood during the 2005-2006 fiscal year.

Figures show Komen affiliates have given Planned Parenthood $3 million between 2003 and 2008 and $805,000 in the 2008 fiscal year.

Those donations and links have continued as Komen affiliates in California, Idaho, Colorado, Iowa, Texas, and other states have either made donations or worked with Planned Parenthood abortion centers.

Stanek says the response leaves open more questions about the Planned Parenthood-Komen relationship.

“Why didn’t PPGNW cash in its inheritance? Why didn’t Eric buy? If the share was willed, it was worth something. The real-estate market was thriving in 2006. It appears both partners are OK with this now four-year-old business partnership,” she responded.

Brinker also attempted to defend the donations to Planned Parenthood in his contact with Stanek, saying “only “20 of Komen’s 122 U.S. Affiliates fund breast-health services through local Planned Parenthood clinics” and adding the total money given represents “less than one percent of the total granted by affiliates.”

And, how do they explain that she been wearing it for 30 years?

How do they treat Orthodox Jews with their garments. Sikhs with their daggers.

You see the “King” aka the gooferment is a natural rival for the loyalty of the people with the “Church”. Been that way since forever when the serfs would seek the protection of the church. And the gooferment, a green eyed monster, can stand no competition.

So look for Obamacare to seek to cripple its rival here. Just like there.

A Father’s Son is Spirited Out of the Country by his Ex-Wife and Disappears.

Someone is missing from the Mauriello table tonight.

14 year old Christopher Mauriello is in Bosnia with his mother.

He was supposed to have returned home from Christmas vacation on January 3rd. But Christopher and his mother had other plans.

His father, Thomas Mauriello, who has physical custody of Christopher was at the end of his rope when he called Help Me Howard.

As he told Howard: “My reaction was one of shock! It was unimaginable that she could do something like this!”

Tom is the Vice President for college advancement at Manhattan College. His ex-wife Tara Bray Afanasiev works for the United Nations Development Programme, also known as UNDP.

Tom was awarded physical custody of Christopher back in 2006, but he and Tara had a legal agreement that allowed her to take Christopher overseas for holidays and summer vacations.

Tom immediately called his attorney, police issued an arrest warrant and Tom called Tara’s employers at the United Nations Development Fund.

According to Tom, the United Nations told him that “it was a personal matter and they didn’t get involved in these sorts of things.”

Howard reached out to the UNDP that employs Tara and they had this to say:

   “We are aware of this particular case involving a staff member, Ms. Tara Bray, who is currently on leave without pay. It is a personal issue between Ms. Bray and her former husband regarding the custody of their child. We very much hope this case is resolved in the best interest of the child. According to our staff rules, all UNDP staff member have an obligation to abide by their private legal obligations. UNDP has reminded Ms. Bray of that requirement. UNDP has been in touch with the US authorities to ensure that they are fully appraised of the steps we have taken in this matter.”
