1. Trump ‘Made a Deal’ With Taliban

Biden repeatedly said that he was bound by the February 2020 agreement between the Trump administration and the Taliban that the U.S. would exit Afghanistan. Many Republicans are among those who criticized the Trump deal with the Taliban. 

Biden said again Tuesday that when he came into office, the Taliban was in the strongest position it had been in since 2001 because of a deal with the Trump administration specifying that the U.S. would pull out by May 1. 

“The previous administration’s agreement said that if we stuck to the May 1 deadline that we had signed on to leave by, the Taliban wouldn’t attack any American forces, but if we stay, all bets were off,” Biden said during his national address from the State Dining Room of the White House, adding:

So, we were left with a simple decision, either follow through the commitment made by the last administration and leave Afghanistan or say we weren’t leaving and commit another tens of thousands more troops going back to war. That was the choice, the real choice.
During his brief press conference last Thursday after the terrorist attack at the Kabul airport, Biden, responding to Fox News reporter Peter Doocy, said he bears responsibility. 

But he also blamed his predecessor, Donald Trump. 

“You know as well as I do that the former president made a deal with the Taliban that he would get all of the American forces out of Afghanistan by May 1,” Biden said. “In return … he was given a commitment that the Taliban would continue to attack others, but would not attack any American forces. Remember that?”

6. Supreme Court ‘Weakened Voting Rights Act’

Last week, Biden also said, “the Supreme Court once again weakened the Voting Rights Act.”

“The court’s decision—as harmful as it is—does not limit the Congress’ ability to repair the damage done,” he said. “It puts the burden back on Congress to restore the Voting Rights Act to its intended strength.”

The high court ruled 6-3 in the case of Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee to uphold a law preventing ballot harvesting and requiring residents to vote in their home precinct. 

The high court did not weaken the Voting Rights Act, as the president said, but determined that two provisions of Arizona state law in question did not violate it. 

One requirement specifies that a ballot cast by someone on Election Day will not be counted if cast outside of that person’s assigned precinct. The other stipulates that only an election official, mail carrier, or a voter’s relative, household member, or caregiver may collect and deliver someone else’s mail-in ballot.

  • Below is my column in The Hill on the suspension of Rudy Giuliani by the New York Bar. The widespread hatred for Giuliani may be blinding many to the more troubling aspects of the opinion by the New York Supreme Court.

This week, New York’s Supreme Court took the extraordinary step of suspending Rudy Giuliani, former federal prosecutor and counsel to former President Trump, from practicing law. As a long-standing critic of Giuliani for his baffling, self-defeating and at times bizarre statements, I found the action was, on some level, reaffirming.

However, the fluid standard applied in Giuliani’s case raises serious concerns over how and when such suspensions will be imposed against lawyers in public controversies. Indeed, the Giuliani standard would seem to implicate a wide array of attorneys who straddle the line of legal and political advocacy.

The concern in this case is that we are seeing a weaponization of bar investigations after a wide (and well-funded) campaign to harass Republican lawyers, their firms and their clients after the 2020 election. And it has worked: Many law firms are unwilling to take on Republican or conservative causes for fear of being targeted.

The Giuliani opinion fuels those concerns. Despite a damning account of exaggerations and falsehoods, it often reads more like a venting — rather than a vetting — of grievances against Giuliani. Instead of issuing a well-deserved reprimand, the court declared Giuliani to be a public menace if allowed to continue practicing law, even for the period of his own adjudication. The premature suspension made little sense. The bar was focused on Giuliani’s public statements, which will continue unabated by any suspension.

Nevertheless, the suspension thrilled many in today’s bloodsport politics. Yet while the court seemed to apply a special “Giuliani rule,” it is unlikely to stay that way if — to paraphrase Carl von Clausewitz — the bar becomes “nothing but a continuation of politics by other means.”

Trump issued a directive to Fauci and the National Institutes of Health in April 2020 to cut funding for a study examining how coronaviruses jump from infected bats to humans after it was reportedly linked to the lab in Wuhan, suspected of having leaked the virus.

The exchange between Fauci and the White House is detailed in an upcoming book by Washington Post reporters Yasmeen Abutaleb and Damian Paletta called “Nightmare Scenario: Inside the Trump Administration’s Response to the Pandemic That Changed History,” according to Fox News.

The study’s sponsor, EcoHealth Alliance, was then told to end the remaining $369,819 balance of its 2020 grant.

According to the book, on April 2020, Fauci and NIH Director Francis Collins received notice that Trump wanted to cancel the grant. Fauci and Collins resisted, telling the White House they “were not sure the NIH actually had the authority to terminate a peer-reviewed grant in the middle of a budget cycle.” 

“The HHS general counsel told them to do it anyway and made clear it was a direct order from the president, implying that their jobs were on the line if they didn’t comply. Fauci and Collins reluctantly agreed to cancel the grant,” an excerpt of the book reads.

So why weren’t they fired immediately.  Did DJT45 learn nothing from his time on “The Apprentice”?

What better way to communicate to entrenched bureaucrats who feel entitled than a visit to the unemployment office?

It should have been an after-thought — “BTW fire all those people in that chain of command NOW!”.

I know you like “listener suggestions. (I hope you’ll consider this.)

The 17th Amendment to directly elect senators, imho, after the Income Tax Amendment, was the single most destructive Amendment to the “American Experiment”. It destroyed the ability of the States to resist “unfunded mandates” and allowed “carpet baggers” like Hillary Clinton an easy path to high elective office.

Personally, I’d love to see it repealed but doubt it’ll ever happen in my lifetime. Those, who want to get the money out of politics, could do it quickly by its repeal.

As a retired fat old white guy injineer that studied a lot of “systems”, I think it merely duplicates the House of Representative while “neutering” the State legislatures. If the 17th can NOT be repealed, then I’d just eliminate the House completely and save all that money.

I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on this topic.

In a letter sent Wednesday evening, the families and victims called for the top intelligence official to release an FBI review completed in 2016 that summarizes a years-long investigation into what responsibility Saudi Arabia bears for facilitating the attacks.

Seems like a perfectly reasonable request.

The Taxpayers have paid for it and it should be the “golden rule” (i.e., he who has the gold, Maes the rules).

I’m sure it will be “enlightening”!

And embarrassing to politicians and bureaucrats of both parties.  (That is a euphemism because they both are identical expect for whose friends and relatives get enriched!)

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has erased a report that detailed illegal aliens on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Terrorism Watch List and No-Fly List crossing the United States-Mexico border.

On Monday, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency published a press release detailing Border Patrol agents’ apprehension of two illegal aliens from Yemen who are on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List and the No-Fly List.“Two Yemeni Men Arrested by Border Patrol Identified on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List,” the title of the CBP press release read. By Tuesday morning, though, the release had been removed from the CBP website and has not been republished.

A link to the original press release shows up as an “Access Denied” page with a note stating “You are not authorized to access this page.”

A CBP spokesperson told Breitbart News in a statement:

The news release in question was not properly reviewed and contained certain disclosure and policy information related to national security that required CBP to remove it from our website.
