IOS: IOS81 is a big “meh” to me

Thursday, September 19, 2024

Wow, not sure if this is noise or a serious concern. I personally would not want anything to do with AI for starters.

Thanks, I’ll check it out!

Checked out the article.

Disagree with “cheating Android” dirty old men.  Android  has locking apps for a while.  Since I give Daniel my phone sometimes, I locked my bank, Amazon, Home Depot, Lowes, and Spirit Halloween apps.  He know to put stuff in the cart but not how to “buy now” ••• … yet.

I don’t see anything in iPhotos that is “terrible”, but neither Android or iPhone allow tags on photos.  That’s annoying and cumbersome.  Sigh!

Nothing else to report on in this “news”.  No misspellings to give away that it’s AI written.

As far as AI is concerned, I don’t find any compelling use case for it.  So I give it a big “meh”.

IOS: iPhone photos are difficult to put names with faces

Tuesday, March 8, 2022

Spent a lot of time trying to “induce” my new iPhone 13 Pro Max to identify people.

Argh!

Seems it needs “time to think” about iding people — locked and on power. Argh!  What was it doing last night?

And, there is no way to “tag” photos for future purposes.

I’m not sure Google Photos on Android or the web is much better.

Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Using iOS Shortcuts to keep up your grocery list
Posted Feb 4th, 2020

*** begin quote ***

Using iOS Shortcuts is a helpful way to automate regular actions. This week’s tip comes from mirbogat, who uses the home screen icons to have one-touch access to adding grocery items to their list.

I’m really enjoying the new Shortcuts integration, it’s been truly amazing for my daily routines!

One use case I would like to share is the ability to use Shortcuts to quickly add groceries to my Grocery Shopping List.

Possibly useful?

IOS: Interesting that it doesn’t create call detail records

Sunday, February 14, 2021

Back in the day, I used to keep a detailed call log manually.

Recently, I wanted to look at calls that I made in October and November to firm up my memory. Argh!  IOS shows only your last 100 “recents”.

Argh!

Too much to ask for the phone to spin out Call Detail Records to a file in iCloud?

The phone companies collect CDRs on everything for the police to fish thru. Why not let the poor dumb slob who’s paying the the “service” to have the same data?

Argh!

IOS: If you see error 9, 4005, 4013, or 4014 when you restore your iOS device – Apple Support

Wednesday, April 1, 2020

If you see error 9, 4005, 4013, or 4014 when you restore your iOS deviceWhen you try to update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you might see one of these messages on your computer.

Some how, some way, my screen time passcode was either corrupted or “set and forget”.

In attempting to reset it, I got the “Error 9”.

I tried four times.

Took a break for dinner and was going to call Apple support. But, I thought “let’s try once more”.  And, WOW, it worked.

I’m pleased that everything was restored and I was able to turn off “screen time”.

But why didn’t it work the first four time?

Doesn’t inspire confidence!

IOS: Upgrade broke podcast app

Thursday, October 5, 2017

Latest upgrade made the app less useful. No longer does it play all the unplayed episodes. How dumb has Apple become. Confirms my decision to leave “apple land” for “google land”.

IOS: iOS 11’s Most Obnoxious Features

Friday, September 29, 2017

Image credit: iOS 11 brings a lot of new and exciting features to the iPhone and iPad. It also brings a lot of pretty annoying ones. Like most new operating systems, iOS 11 has had a few hiccups during its first full week out on the town, including a bug that made it impossible for Microsoft Exchange users to send or receive emails using their iPhones.

And, they have screwed up the PODCAST feature that played all the “unplayed” podcasts.

RECOMMENDED: Google’s PhotoScan app

Monday, April 17, 2017

7. Search Scanned Photos

Google recently released a new free app called PhotoScan with the aim of letting you digitize all your old photos. If you’ve installed the app, you can access it by clicking the three lines at the top left of Google Photos, then clicking “Scan photos”. Going forward, simply search for scans whenever you want to see all the photos you digitized.
