GUNS: Aurora’s Strict Gun Laws Didn’t

Aurora’s Strict Gun Laws Didn’t Prevent Shooting, But If One Law-Abiding Person In The Theater Had Been Carrying One…
By Ron Meyer
July 21, 2012

*** begin quote ***

Purdue student and Young America’s Foundation Intern Scholar Hillary Cherry provides her thoughts on the Colorado shooting, stressing the importance of protecting our Second Amendment rights:

A masked gunman opened fire yesterday on one of the 3,700 midnight showings of The Dark Knight Rises, leaving 12 dead, 50 injured, and one in custody. Liberals everywhere are wasting no time to use this massacre in an effort to push gun control and gut the Second Amendment.

Mayor Bloomberg asks the Obama administration for stricter gun laws following Colorado shooting. Comedian DL Hughley tweeted, “Aurora is 13yrs and 13 miles from Columbine! Since the 60s over 500,000 ppl have bn killed by guns in the US we have no right 2 b shocked!”

How will stricter gun laws bring an end to criminals having guns, when the laws against murder have not been able to stop them from killing innocent people?

Currently in Aurora, Colorado, where the shooting took place, it is already unlawful to carry a concealed “dangerous weapon,” discharge firearms, unless by law enforcement on duty or on shooting range, and have loaded firearm in motor vehicle.

Yet these laws were unable to stop James Holmes.

*** end quote ***

The lessons of Columbine, Virginia Tech, and now Aurora is that people must be allowed, able, and prepared to defend themselves.

Period, end of story.

The Dead Old White Guys’ wisdom was to enshrine that. We are stupidly ignorant of what makes our species thrive and cooperate — when each is a “sovereign” we have peace.

Argh!

“Dial 911 and die”

When death is seconds away, the police are minutes away. “We, The People” ARE the police!

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.” — Lazarus Long (Robert A Heinlein)

“Victim disarmament is the view that it is somehow better to see a woman raped in an alley and strangled with her own pantyhose, than see her with a gun in her hand.” — T.D. Melrose

GUNS: Heroic defense by a young man demonstrates “Stand Your Ground” and the “Castle Doctrine”

14-Year-Old Shoots Armed Intruder While Babysitting His Younger Siblings in Phoenix

(The Blaze/AP) — A 14-year-old boy shot and nearly killed an intruder who broke into his Phoenix home and pulled a gun on him while he was watching his three younger siblings, police said Saturday.

The teen and his siblings, ages 8, 10 and 12, were at home alone when a woman rang the doorbell on Friday. A common enough occurrence, the boy still chose not to open the door because he didn’t recognize the woman.

Quickly escalating into a far more dangerous situation, the 14-year-old rushed his siblings upstairs after he heard a loud bang on the door, grabbing his father’s handgun on the way.

When he got to the top of the stairs, he saw an armed man break through the front door and point a gun at him.

Acting swiftly, he reportedly shot the 37-year-old man, who was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition to undergo surgery. However, he is expected to survive and will be booked into jail within the week on counts of aggravated assault and burglary, police Officer James Holmes said.

The suspect did not get a shot off, according to police. He also declined to release his name until he is booked into jail.

At the very least, where is the national reaffirmation of “Stand Your Ground” and the “Castle Doctrine”?

The liberal anti-gun media was having a field day with the Florida shooting.

Initially, their claim was that every road rage incident would turn into Gunfight at the OK Corral. Didn’t happen.

Then, it was everyone was a stalking killer.

Now, not a peep.

Well done, young man.

I think we can trust this “kid” turned man to drink, drive a car, and do whatever else he wants.

We infantilize children. Waste their talents from 12 to 24. Then again from ~60’s to 80.

When will “We, The Sheeple” wake up!

I Love My Guns
by Susan Callaway

*** begin quote ***

To start with, about 30 years ago I was attacked and would likely have died if I had not been armed.

At that point the man started to walk toward me, in a few words telling me just how he would hurt me. I raised the shotgun, but he just sneered and said confidently, “you won’t shoot me” and kept coming.

He was still too close to my car, so I aimed the .410 shotgun just over his head and pulled the trigger.

I saw the shocked look, just before I saw the blood on his face and chest where the tiny #6 birdshot had hit him. He turned and ran away, destroying a low ornamental fence in the process, but never even slowing to untangle it from his legs.

How would the world be better and more peaceful if I had been raped and murdered instead, simply because I had no gun?

I think this summarizes the argument quite nicely. As someone said: “God made man and woman; Sam Colt made them equal.”

“Police officers are trained to de-escalate highly charged encounters with aggressive people, using deadly force as a last resort. Citizens, on the other hand, may act from emotion and perceived threats. But “stand your ground” gives citizens the right to use force in public if they feel threatened. As the law emphatically states, a citizen has “no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground.”

*** end quote ***

The is NOT imho a “stand your ground” case.

This fellow was told by the 911 operator to let the boy go.

He was following; how’s that “standing”?

We see police and prosecutorial abuse of legal gun owners often. This law is merely protecting the innocent.

This is the first such incident we’ve heard about since ’05. That’s 7 years! Not exactly the “blood in the streets” that the anti-gun folks always predict.

States can channel the way their residents exercise their Second Amendment right to bear arms, but because Maryland’s goal was to minimize the number of firearms carried outside homes by limiting the privilege to those who could demonstrate “good reason,” it had turned into a rationing system, infringing upon residents’ rights, U.S. District Judge Benson Everett Legg wrote.

“A citizen may not be required to offer a `good and substantial reason’ why he should be permitted to exercise his rights,” he wrote. “The right’s existence is all the reason he needs.”

GUNS: Firing gun into ground unsafe

New Hampshire man arrested for firing gun into ground while catching suspected burglar

A New Hampshire man who fired his handgun into the ground to scare an alleged burglar he caught crawling out of a neighbor’s window is now facing a felony charge — and the same potential prison sentence as the man he stopped.

*** and ***

Penny Dean, a spokeswoman for the Gun Owners of New Hampshire, said her organization is “absolutely outraged” by Fleming’s arrest.

“This homeowner fired at the ground, from all accounts, in a safe direction and held a burglar for police and did things correctly,” Dean told FoxNews.com. “The fact that this man would be charged is an outrage. Burglars in New Hampshire must know it’s open season, since homeowners cannot defend themselves, as evidenced by this case. This is charging the victim.”

Rick Pelkey, Fleming’s longtime neighbor, said he’s now worried how the “straight-forward, working-class guy” will pay legal fees associated with the arrest.

“I think it’s outrageous,” Pelkey told FoxNews.com. “He did the community a service here. We ought to thank him for it.”

>Is NJ next, and NC?

That’s already illegal in NJ. Every municipality has laws about discharges in developed areas. That why I can not use my 45 on the tree rats!

He did a few things wrong.

First, that’s probably not a safe shot. Richocet? What’s in the ground in a developed area?

Only in the movies, does that work. Waving guns at bad guys and warning shots. Like shooting the gun out of someone’s hand. Theatrics. Decide that you’re willing to use deadly force, draw, take your stance, then cover the target, breath control, and sqeeeeze.

Once you’ve drawn your gun, you’ve basically decided to fire.

Second, he should have waited, gotten the guy coming towards him, and then nailed him. And kept firing till the gun was empty. And, hopefully the perp was dead.

Sad to say, but then there’s only one side of the story to tell. And, deadly force to save your life or the life of another is always per se justifiable.

It’s akin to the “shoot shovel and shutup” strategy.

Argh!

And, in NH too!

I’m shocked!!!

GUNS: Politicians and bureaucrats harass gun owners for oversights

KNOX GUN-RIGHTS REPORT

States still ‘gun’ for unsuspecting firearm owners
by Jeff Knox

*** begin quote ***

A decision to carry a gun for defense brings with it a raft of responsibilities. The defensive mindset that should accompany carrying – situational awareness and avoidance strategies, competence with the firearm and the moral implications of using deadly force – needs to extend to the legal and political environment as well. It must be understood that even a clearly justified defensive use of a firearm – which saves your life – can easily cost your home and life savings. Deadly force is serious business. No one should take the decision lightly, and threat recognition needs to include recognizing the threat posed by state power – particularly in states like New York.

*** end quote ***

We don’t need “State” or “Local” Gooferments playing “gotcha” with responsible gun owners.

Crimes committed with, or without, a gun deserve restitution. It may be harsher than what we do today. Actions have consequences. Oversights that harm no one should be ignored.

How did we lose so many of our rights?

GUNS: An old vote on the RKBA

My reaction:

I added my vote to “individual right” crowd. 10M votes.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? . . .” — Alexander Solzhenitsyn
How will you resist when they come to take YOU and yours to the camps?

Can’t happen here? Tell that to the Japanese Americans in 1941 and the various American Indian tribes. I’d say you could tell it to David Koresh, the other 54 Branch Davidians, and their 21 children, BUT, (and there is always a BIG butt), they’re all dead. After the Gooferment came for them.

Argh!
fjohn

p.s., it’s an old poll, BUT, (and there is always a BIG butt), I have no doubt that Holder still believes it’s not a right and that USA Today would too.

———- Forwarded message ———-

This is apparently a new and current polling effort by USA today.  Very simple to do.

Own a Gun? Please Keep This Moving

Guess they were not happy with the poll results the first time so USA Today is running another one. Vote now.

Attorney General, Eric Holder, has already said this is one of his major issues. He does not believe the 2nd Amendment gives individuals the right to bear arms. This takes literally 2 clicks to complete. Please vote on this gun issue question with USA Today. It will only take a few seconds of your time. Then pass the link on to all the pro-gun folks you know. Hopefully these results will be published later this month. This upcoming year will become critical for gun owners with the Supreme Court’s accepting the District of Columbia case against the right for individuals to bear arms.

Here’s what you need to do:

First – vote on this one.  Second – launch it to other folks and have THEM vote – then we will see if the results get published.

GUNS: The essence of “carrying”

The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender.

Or, why I would carry if it was permitted in the Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerzee!

GUNS: Christmas spike; guns as gifts?

Peace on Earth, now buy a gun
Posted: December 09, 2011
Patrice Lewis

*** begin quote ***

So when firearms sales spike in anticipation of our annual celebration of peace on earth and goodwill toward men, I find nothing in the slightest bit contradictory in that concept. An armed society, as they say, is a polite society. But more than that, an armed society is a peaceful society. A nation whose citizens are armed stays relatively peaceful. It will never turn into a tyranny.

Remember, a free man cannot be defeated. He can only be killed. That becomes much easier if you’ve disarmed him first.

So to maintain peace on earth and goodwill toward men, I urge you to buy a firearm this Christmas and learn how to use it. Support the Second Amendment. Keep peace on earth … or at least in our country.

*** end quote ***

There’s no doubt that guns are a tool that keeps the peace.

“…if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.” -Churchill, The Second World War, vol. 1, The Gathering Storm (London: Cassell, 1948, 272, on the British guarantee to Poland in Spring 1939.

The politicians and bureaucrats are NOT the friends of the People that they pretend to be. They want to exercise power over us.

Police were dispatched to a residence in the 6700 block of Fortune Road shortly before 3:30 a.m. A woman, who said she was alone in the house, told officers that she was awakened by her doorbell ringing and called 911, police said. Buddhist Packing Bond Pistol Shows American Embrace of Guns

Bates, 64, says she believes guns can be potent equalizers that well-trained civilians can handle. “A gun is like a fire extinguisher,” she says. “It isn’t there because you want to have a fire or expect to have a fire. It’s there because you may find yourself in that situation where it can save your life and give the professionals time to get there.”

This is why more Jews should join the conceal-carry bandwagon, says Dovid Bendory, an Orthodox rabbi in Livingston, New Jersey, who heads the 4,500-member Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership. Post-9/11, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security ranks the domestic terror threat against synagogues equal to that of railroads and utilities.

“I ask Jews all the time, ‘Are you prepared for an active shooter in a synagogue?’” Bendory says. “‘What would you do?’ The common answer is ‘I’d dial 911.’ So I ask, ‘And what would you do until the police got there? Hide?’ They don’t have a good answer for that. I believe we are woefully unprepared for such an attack.”

Americans should NEVER be victims. They have rights and the Second Amendment recognizes their right to protect their rights.

COEUR d’ALENE – Tim Patterson has no doubts he would have pulled the trigger.

He’s glad he didn’t have to.

But when a woman is being attacked by a man with a knife, Patterson says he’ll do what must be done.

“If he had not stopped what he was doing,” he says, his voice fading. “He came very close to dying. Really, really close.”

Monday afternoon was another normal day of cooking burgers and fries and hot dogs and Philly cheesesteaks for Tim and Debbie Patterson.

Then, about 2 p.m., they heard a scream.

Tim rushed out the back door of The Big Yellow mobile kitchen at the corner of Harrison and Fourth. He looked around the Goodwill parking lot full of cars, and heard another scream. Then, he heard a woman’s voice.

“Let go of me,” it shrieked.

Patterson charged around a car and stopped. A man had a woman’s head pulled back with one hand, and a knife to her throat with the other.

Patterson didn’t hesitate.

He drew his Kimber 1911 .45 with a six-shot clip.

“Drop it, or I’ll shoot you,” he shouted.

The assailant, wearing a hoodie that covered his face, glanced up. He immediately let go of the woman, dropped the knife, raised his arms in the air and fled.

“Victim disarmament is the view that it is somehow better to see a woman raped in an alley and strangled with her own pantyhose, than see her with a gun in her hand.” — T.D. Melrose

I’d like to read more stories like this. I’d imagine that bad guy had to return home for an “E quip ment change” (i.e., shorts).

An armed citizen exercising civic duty. The police can NOT be everywhere. In fact, we need “sheepdogs” mixed in the flock to keep the “wolves” guessing. Like this one today, he guessed wrong.

A measured response. He didn’t just drill him. But was ready too. imho, he was in a morally defensible place if he did. That woman was in the criminal’s “kill zone” (i.e., her vitals were within knife range). Don’t know what “the law” is there, but who cares. You have to ook yourself in the mirror in the morning.

(Personally, I like to use the “Mother” test. Would you be proud to tell your Mom what you did? I can envision an imaginary conversation. Mother: “What did you do today son?” Me: “Mom, I saved a woman’s life, but I had to kill a man to do it.” Mother: “Well, if you were sure there was no other way, a man has to do what he has to do. I’m proud of you.”)

p.s. Note, like a good well-trained gun owner, that he obviously is, to recreate the situation for the news photographer, he did NOT draw his weapon. It would have made the photo more dramatic. But it’s a tool; not a toy. Accidents happen when you use tools for “dramatic effect”. Watch when politicians do it. They’re <synonym for the act of procreation in real time> dangerous. When you draw your weapon, it’s for a specific purpose. To threaten the use of deadly force in order to stop a felony. If you’re doing that and an accident happens, well <synonym for excrement> happens. But you don’t do it for reasons as trivial as making a better picture.

GUNS: When a Tyrannosaurs Rex rampages through your neighborhood … …

According to Firearm Blog, the rifle has a “16.25″ barrel, can push the 1132 grain of lead up to 2300 fps. Thats 13,000 ft/lbs of energy, right up there with the .50 BMG and far exceeding the .700 Nitro Express. The cast lead bullet has enough energy to pass clean through a 1/4″ steel plate.

When a Tyrannosaurs Rex rampages through your neighborhood, this would seem to be the perfect tool for the job.

Feds warns kitchen staple considered part of ‘silencer’

“Put down the Chore Boy and back away from the weaponry!”

It’s an order that actually could be heard, given that a letter has surfaced from the federal government warning against consumers stockpiling Chore Boy household scrubbers because they can be considered a component of a gun silencer and, therefore, regulated by federal gun laws.

The letter is from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the ATF. It was obtained by David Codrea, who publishes online as the Gun Rights Examiner.

You can’t make this stuff up.

The BATF, the home of “Fast and Furious”, needs to be shut down.

Period!

Crime Young Boy Saves His Mother’s Life By Shooting Drunken Attacker With a BB Gun
Posted on November 24, 2011 at 7:17am by Billy Hallowell Billy Hallowell

*** begin quote ***

It’s going to be a happy Thanksgiving for one Bellingham, Washington, family after a young boy took decisive action to save his mother from a vicious attacker.

Police say 11-year-old Kobe Sturgeon shot the man with a BB rifle after he drunkenly attacked his mother in the family’s home. Authorities are calling the young boy a hero for taking action during such a dramatic and chaotic incident.

Let’s give the young men of our country REAL guns. And, just so no one thinks I’m sexist, let’s give them to the girls too.

“An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.” — Robert A. Heinlein

With only a bb gun, the two legged varmint might have turned on the boy. Then, finished the job.

Even a 22LR would have been better.

Argh!

Our pioneer forefathers must be turning over.

The RKBA is about being secure in our homes and to keep the politicians and bureaucrats afraid.

“God created man, Sam Colt made them equal.”

Give that man (OK, boy) a cigar. Good shooting.

GUNS: Give victims a real defense

New GPS Device To Help Warn Domestic Violence Victims About Abusers

If Attacker Enters Area He Or She Shouldn’t Be, The Cavalry Will Be Notified

November 1, 2011 9:21 PM

*** begin quote ***

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — It’s a tragedy that happens all too often. The victim of domestic violence gets a restraining order against her abuser, only to be beaten or killed when that order is ignored.

*** and ***

“The people who are going to be required to wear this are people who are convicted of violating an order of protection already. They’ve already done something where a court has demanded them to stay away from their victim,” Donovan said.

“I think it could be very helpful,” Santiago said.

*** end quote ***

Are you kidding me?

I know something that would be helpful. (Raising hand, saying “call on me”, me, me)

Politicians pass a law that gives the victim a presumption of self-defense if the violator is shot.

That and some quick training on a loaner.

It’s absurd that a court order is supposed to protect victims.

South Carolina sheriff encourages women to obtain concealed weapons permits, carry guns
By Associated Press, Published: November 1

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — A South Carolina sheriff is urging women to get concealed weapons permits and carry guns to protect themselves.

“Victim disarmament is the view that it is somehow better to see a woman raped in an alley and strangled with her own pantyhose, than see her with a gun in her hand.” — T.D. Melrose

“So if a Bravo Golf was to try and rape your sister, you’d kill to stop him; right?” “Yes, Miss Marie.” “If someone was going to kill any of your Classmates, what then?” “I’d do what needs doing.” “Yes, we women do. Did you know John’s paternal grandmother traveled the Oregon Trail, bore 13 children, and fought Indians and Outlaws? She’s in her 90’s now. I’ve read her letters. Women can kill when it’s needed. We may not be as physically strong as men, but who seems to get to change all the diapers?” — character “Marie” answering a question in CHURCH 10●19●62 Volume 1 Page 262

Now, I’m not sure that a 45 is a good choice for old women. Although my Great Aunt slept with one under her pillow for most of her adult life. In her old age, she rubber-banded the grip safety because her arthritis made it hard to squeeze the grip, but not to pull the trigger. On the range with it, she was all over the target. But who in their right mind would want to be down range from a scared crazy lady with a “fire hose spewing lead”. The Range Officer’s instruction to her was “Now, Dear, you just keep pulling the trigger until it locks open. The bad guy might have to reload it or beat you to death with it, but ammo is cheap compared to your life. Personally, I doubt you’ll have any trouble.” And, I heard him say it and I agree with him. Only a nut would mess with her. It was funny to see her do a Cooper stance resting on her cane. Would certainly scare the <synonym for excrement> out of me.

While I defer to the Sheriff’s sound advice, I’d recommend a 380 aka pocket rocket as easier to handle and just as scary.

Of course, if one is going for scary, nothing is as distinctive as the ratchet sound of loading a shotgun. Assuming the elder lady has the arm strength, that’s even more “impressive”. No aim needed and it usually stops at walls to prevent accidents.

Very polite and very very safe.

I have George and Martha to keep me company; a matched identical pair of Colt M1911 45s. A great “show stopper”.

CRIME

‘VERY AFRAID’: 66-YEAR-OLD WOMAN SHOOTS AND KILLS HOME INTRUDER

Posted on October 22, 2011 at 7:20pm by Christopher Santarelli

*** begin quote ***

An elderly Northern California-woman woke early Friday morning to hear an intruder attempting to break into her home. CBS 12 reports that the 66-year-old Donna Hopper is still shaken after shooting the 37-year-old intruder dead:

*** and ***

Hopper says she was terrified when she heard the intruder at her her door, firing two warning shots through her window to scare the man away. When 37-year-old Jesse Edward Theis persisted, attempting to come back in, Hopper fired a fatal shot in his abdomen, killing Theis on the scene.

*** end quote ***

I feel bad for this poor woman. To have that on your mind for the rest of your life, it’s a burden.

On a humorous note, after two warning shots, the fellow didn’t move along to an easier target.

Serendipity, a few hours ago, I posted about women and guns. About what fool would want to be down range from even a crazy woman sending lead in your direction!

So what happens if you’re in that situation. Do you, as the popular bumper sticker says, “dial 911 and die”?

Or do you reach over to your “safe”, cycle the action, and put two warning shots down range.

(I am rethinking using my 1911 and 45ACP as being too powerful for “home defense use”. But if it’s a bear or a druggie on speed, then it’s just right. Assuming I can hit what I aim at.)

Of course, my favorite for home defense is the old shotgun. It makes such a distinctive sound when you cycle the action. Like that favorite old joke about the Quaker who says to the intruder in a darkened room: “I mean thee no harm, but thou are standing where I plan to shoot. LOL! Dumb. The few Quakers I know would never shoot at any human under any circumstances. Us Libertarians would be carefully considering the balance. To use deadly force, one must be facing a deadly threat.
