RANT: What’s with FBC?

Monday, December 26, 2011

Looks like Fox Business Channel has taken off the week between Christmas and New Years.

What there is no business going on?

Shows how they are not serious. They’re just entertainment. Not a viewer’s partner to be taken seriously.

Argh!

Crime Surveillance Video Captures Cop Tasering 14-Year-Old Female Student
Posted on December 14, 2011 at 1:17pm by Jonathon M. Seidl Jonathon M. Seidi

*** begin quote ***

Newly-released video showing an Allentown, PA police officer tasering a 14-year-old female student in September is causing debate over whether the officer used excessive force. The video was released as part of a lawsuit filed by the girls family.

*** end quote ***

For not crossing the street fast enough? That’s how this all started.

ANT: The police are out of control. The hubris of power over mere mundanes. The “Mundane” girls should have immediately followed the instructions of her “betters”. How dare she object to his obviously reasonable requests? Sorry, where did she ever agree to be subject to the whims of the costumed thug? Argh! It’s typical. And this is the tip of the iceberg of what we hear about.

PRO: We are raising a society where there is no respect for authority…it starts in the homes and continues throughout schools and workplaces. We could have a calm, orderly society with zero instances like this if people behaved. You can have your freedoms, we aren’t talking about robots here….just some reasonable tolerance with authority. We are a law abiding society, without it chaos reigns (example is the OWSers).

POLITICAL: A “right” to travel?

Travel is a Human Right
Posted by James Wilson

*** begin quote ***

Quote of the Day: “The right to travel enables the free exercise of the other rights we most cherish. We should not have to check our constitutional freedoms at the curb simply because we decide to leave the house. Sadly, freedom of movement has been one of the most disparaged rights throughout human history, and our country is no exception. If we are ever to be truly free, then we must possess an absolute, uninhibited right to travel throughout America and the world free from interference by government.” – Judge Andrew Napolitano

This holiday season, countless innocent air travelers will be screened, patted-down, and interrogated by the TSA.

Let’s make next Christmas merrier for them. Tell Congress to abolish the Transportation Security Agency.

*** end quote ***

Clearly, the TSA is an unconstitutional agency. I believe that the Dead Old White Guys would call it a “private militia”.

I’m not a “political philosopher” by any stretch of the imagination. BUT, (and there is always a BIG butt), I’d opine that there are two components of a “right” — general human agreement and folks are willing to fight to have it.

ONE

Now, obviously, the slave master wants to keep the slaves on the plantation. Dialing it back a tad, the Feudal Lord wanted to keep the serf working. Back another tad, “sharecropping” was another attempt to control people. The “company store” another. It’s all about controlling people. It’s always about control.

Politicians and bureaucrats are no different.

Freedom to move is imho one of those “obvious” rights. It’s like saying you’re free to breathe.

TWO

Now the harder one, are people willing to fight?

imho the jury’s till out about that.

Now we know the TSA is “security theater” at best and a corrupt payoff to the Unions and gives the country a new voting set of bureaucrats beholding to the Gooferment for their livelihood. Like they’ll ever push for the TSA’s abolition.

There’s a problem in the USA: ½ the people are on the dole in one form or another, ¼ are in “public service”, and the other productive ¼ are “pulling the wagon” (i.e., paying for it).

So how can the trend be reversed?

We’ll have to see if the people are willing to fight for their rights. Any of them!

INSPIRATIONAL: Refugees survive due to a few gold coins

Gold and Money in Extremis… One Man’s Story
By Daily Reckoning Contributor

*** begin quote ***

I was ordered to get my coat and accompany them. I was taken to a station and asked many questions. It was a stroke of luck for me that the Russian soldier to whom I had spoken in the past was here among them. After conferring with the others, he said: “Because you were born in Siberia, speak Russian, and you’re an uneducated worker — much like us — we will not detain you further. You may go for now.” He then gently grabbed my elbow and said very quietly, “Go back to your family, Marion. Get prepared for deportation to Siberia.” I ran home.

At dawn, I retrieved the gold and jewelry. I found my largest boots and heaviest jacket. I lined the bottom of my boots carefully with small coins and put leather over the insoles. I slit the heels, carefully hollowed out what I could and stuffed larger gold coins inside the cavities. Finally, I opened up various parts of my jacket and distributed more gold chain and coins in it — with great care so they did not rattle and were hard to detect.

Several days later, we were awakened by a knock at 4 a.m. and told we were being deported to Siberia. We were given 15 minutes to gather any personal belongings needed for immediate use. Our land, homes, and possessions were now property of the Russian state. My wife, my three-year-old daughter, and I were put into a truck with a group of others and taken to a railroad station.

We would never see our parents, our siblings, nor set foot on Polish soil, again. I was greatly relieved that they did not check my jacket or my shoes. My small cache of gold was going with me.

*** end quote ***

Like the Christmas story, where Mary and Joseph go to Bethlehem to “register” and eventually flee, here’s a powerful lesson. It can happen to you!

FUN: A LOVING GRANDPA

Saturday, December 24, 2011

FROM LUDDITE:

A LOVING GRANDPA

A woman in a supermarket is following a grandfather and his badly behaved 3 year-old grandson. It’s obvious to her that he has his hands full with the child screaming for sweets in the sweet aisle, biscuits in the biscuit aisle; and for fruit, cereal and pop in the other aisles.

Meanwhile, Granddad is working his way around, saying in a controlled voice, “Easy, William, we won’t be long … easy, Boy.”

Another outburst, and she hears the granddad calmly say, “It’s okay, William, just a couple more minutes and we’ll be out of here. Hang in there, Boy.”

At the checkout, the little terror is throwing items out of the cart, and Granddad says again in a controlled voice, “William, William, relax buddy, don’t get upset. We’ll be home in five minutes; stay cool, William.”

Very impressed, the woman goes outside where the grandfather is loading his groceries and the boy into the car. She said to the elderly gentleman, “It’s none of my business, but you were amazing in there. I don’t know how you did it. That whole time, you kept your composure, and no matter how loud and disruptive he got, you just calmly kept saying things would be okay. William is very lucky to have you as his grandpa.”

“Thanks,” said the grandfather, “But I’m William … the little shit’s name is Kevin.”

A Politically Correct Christmas Greeting

*** begin quote ***

Best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most joyous traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, but with respect for the religious persuasion of others who choose to practice their own religion as well as those who choose not to practice a religion at all;

Additionally,

a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the generally accepted calendar year 2000, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions have helped make our society great, without regard to the race, creed, color, religious, or sexual preferences of the wishes.

(Disclaimer: This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others and no responsibility for any unintended emotional stress these greetings may bring to those not caught up in the holiday spirit.)

SERVICE: When the “Cloud” disappears!

Friday, December 23, 2011

*** begin quote ***

This is an important Google Health service announcement. You are receiving this email because you have an active Google Health account.

As we announced earlier this year, the Google Health service will be discontinued as of January 1, 2012. After that date, you will no longer be able to access Google Health, and 3rd-party services that you have linked to your Google Health profile(s) will no longer be able to send data to or receive data from those profile(s).

If you want to keep using the data you have stored in Google Health, we strongly recommend that you take action before the end of the year to download it or transfer it to another online health service. We’ve made this easy for you. All you have to do is:

– go to the Google Health site at https://health.google.com

– log in with your Google account

– click on the link in the yellow bar at the top of your screen to start the process of downloading your information and closing your Google Health account.

For more information, see our help center article at http://www.google.com/support/health/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1347989

If you have not retrieved your Google Health data before January 1, 2012, it will remain available for download from https://health.google.com for an additional year, through January 1, 2013. Please note that during this period, functionality will be limited to downloading your data in ZIP format only and deleting your Google Health account; you will no longer be able to view, enter, edit, or print data. We may also find it necessary to limit or discontinue the ability to automatically transfer a copy of your profile to another health service, based on technical considerations.

For more details on the discontinuation of Google Health, see our blog post at http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/06/update-on-google-health-and-google.html, and see answers to frequently-asked questions at http://www.google.com/intl/en/health/faq.html.

TECHNOLOGY: Fool drone to land in Iran

Friday, December 23, 2011

http://news.slashdot.org/story/11/12/15/2013249/us-sentinel-drone-fooled-into-landing-with-gps-spoofing

McGruber writes “Following up on the earlier Slashdot story, the Christian Science Monitor now reports that GPS spoofing was used to get the RQ-170 Sentinel Drone to land in Iran. According to an Iranian engineer quoted in the article, ‘By putting noise [jamming] on the communications, you force the bird into autopilot. This is where the bird loses its brain.’ Apparently, once it loses its brain, the bird relies on GPS signals to get home. By spoofing GPS, Iranian engineers were able to get the drone to ‘land on its own where we wanted it to, without having to crack the remote-control signals and communications.'”

POLITICAL: Are “kops” worth more than “mundanes”

Brooklyn DA promises no plea deals for killer of NYPD’s Peter Figoski
Felony muder can hold all five liable

*** begin quote ***

Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes is determined to see justice for hero cop Peter Figoski, who’s shooting death has led to the arrest of five suspects who will soon stand trial for murder.

Hynes unsealed the indictments against the five on Tuesday, bluntly stating that his office won’t make deals with any of the accused, even if they didn’t fire the murder weapon.

‘This will be a trial,’ Hynes told the Daily News. ‘There won’t be plea bargaining in this case.’

*** end quote ***

With this declaration, he implies that the police are more important than the average victim.

It would seem that he’s not earning his salary.

Argh!

What’s wrong with pleas? It’s good enough for ordinary victims.

(I’m for eliminating ALL plea deals. Force the Gooferment to prioritize. And, we should be about “restitution”; not punishment or even “rehabilitiation” (whatever that is?) and most certainly not enriching the Gooferment by fines. The victim gets squat and the State enriches itself.

Perverse!

MONEY: Understanding “counterparty risk”

Thursday, December 22, 2011

Jim’s Quote of the Day:

via SurvivalBlog.com by James Wesley, Rawles on 12/14/11

*** begin quote ***

“Anything that is on paper anything that involves a promise or a commitment is no longer valid because as we said there isn’t a rule of law anymore. People can steal from you. Your money can be confiscated. And think how easy now it is to confiscate people’s wealth. Most of our wealth in this society exists as zeroes and ones on a computer server. It takes no effort whatsoever to steal zeros and ones on a computer server. So what I have been telling people is you need to get into physical commodities. And the rule of thumb is if you can stand in front of it with an assault rifle and physically protect it, then it’s real—it’s a real commodity. That includes food, that includes water, that includes long guns and ammunition. That includes fuel. That includes precious metals—gold and silver coinage. Most especially silver coinage because silver is the metal of barter and transaction and currency.” – Ann Barnhardt, former head of Barnhardt Capital Management. (She ran the firm before she went Galt.)

*** end quote ***

When I was on Wall Street, it was called “counterparty risk”. And, everyone was very very worried about it.

So when MF GLOBAL goes broke, all the “counterparties” are <synonym for the past tense of the procreation act>!

That’s why you see all the screaming to Congress and the “regulators” cause they were robbed.

When you have your bullion coins (e.g., platinum, gold, palladium, silver, nickels <yeah the 5¢ coins>, pennies) in you hand or buried in your backyard, there’s no counterparty risk. There are other risks, but not from Corzine and his ilk.

When you have something that’s paper, you’ve got “counterparty risk”. Even if that paper is a faith-based curency like a “dollar” (whatever that is) aka Firbie (i.e., federal reserve banknote).

Toilet paper is more intrinsically valuable.
