INTERESTING: A new brain cell: demonstrates (again) about how little we know

Scientists discover a new type of brain cell

  • There are hints that it could lead to new treatments for Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and other brain disorders.
  • An image of a neuron with a blue light coming out of it.
  • Most of the cells in the brain are either neurons or glial cells. The former send messages, while the latter protect the former. Astrocytes are a type of glial cell found near synapses. Researchers believe they have discovered a new type of astrocyte that actively participates in neurotransmission, making them a sort of hybrid between neurons and glial cells.

A new brain cell: Researchers at the Wyss Center for Bio and Neuroengineering and the University of Lausanne believe they’ve definitively proven that some astrocytes do actively participate in neurotransmission, making them a sort of hybrid of neurons and glial cells.

According to the researchers, this third type of brain cell, which they call a “glutamatergic astrocyte,” could offer a way to treat Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other disorders of the nervous system.

“Its discovery opens up immense research prospects,” said study co-director Andrea Volterra.

Pediatrician Discharges Mother’s Kids After She Objects to Gender Ideology

My now-former pediatrician installed on the wall of every exam room a “Safe Zone” rainbow triangle sticker with the words “sexual orientation,” “gender expression,” and “gender identity.” Meticulously placed in front of the exam table and at a child’s eye level, it was the first thing my daughter noticed on the otherwise blank walls. She asked me to read the words and tell her what they meant. She was five years old and just learning to read.

I told the doctor this was inappropriate sexual content on the wall and there will be no talk of this sticker with my daughter, but when my daughter asked about the sticker again, the doctor told her, “it’s about being inclusive.” This confused my daughter even more.

After a tense disagreement (in another room) about the politics of the sticker, my doctor agreed that it was reasonable to place younger children in exam rooms without the sticker. But she never placed my children in another room or returned my follow-up calls. Instead, a doctor called me and “invited” me to leave the medical practice. It is illegal to discharge a patient without thirty days’ notice in Rhode Island.

Having had the opportunity to be around a young boy, I can attest that he can’t tell the difference between real life and fiction.  He, often talks to his imaginary friends and tells me stories that I KNOW can’t possibly be true.  He has a hard time with time, days of the week, writing the number FIVE.

And, these cult zealots want to explain sex to that age group.  Might as well try and explain Quantum Physics.

Just leave the child run out of the debate and in the usually capable hands of their living family,

This type of nonsense, jest makes me boild and rant.

Sorry but this doctor is in the wrong profession.  He should try preaching.   Probably won’t pay as well though.

Time to Get Serious about Protecting Our Schools
By David Huntwork

*** begin quote ***

Many years ago, Israel faced waves of terror attacks against soft targets. The Israelis responded by seriously hardening their schools and other more vulnerable locations. Much of that added security was in the form of well armed and well trained personnel specifically designated to deter and defeat the type of threats we are now seeing directed at U.S. schools. What we do not see now is anyone successfully targeting or attacking Israeli schools. There are good reasons for that, and we should not be afraid to learn from the hard lessons of others.

*** end quote ***

I remember that when the Israelis hardened their schools, they were reported to be using grandparents as “extra security”.  I remember thinking at the time about how smart that was.  Grandparents would willingly sacrifice themselves for their grandchildren.  And, no one would be more vigilant about “school security” than they would be.

As this article suggest, let’s not put an added burden on police but have a real force who’s mission was singularly focused.

Bring sanity back to society.

The pilot fired two missiles, the first of which missed rather than malfunctioned as claimed at the time, the BBC has reported.

Russia had said the incident last September when missiles were fired at the RAF aircraft – with a crew of up to 30 – was caused by a “technical malfunction”.

The UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) publicly accepted the Russian explanation.

POLITICAL: Just say “no” to Federal Funds!

Why State Schools Should Refuse Federal Money
By Sheri Few

*** begin quote ***

The key to eliminating federal intervention in government schools is to eliminate federal funding.

The time is right for states to wean themselves off the federal dole. Serious conversations are taking place throughout the country about the legitimate and effective role of the federal government in education. But who has a viable plan to dismantle the behemoth?

The “Blueprint to Establish State Control of Education by Eliminating all Federal Education Dollars,” written by United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIE) outlines the necessary steps to restore state sovereignty for education policy and practice — and it’s achievable.

The Blueprint explains detailed steps to help governors and state legislators develop and execute a concrete plan, and even provides clear evidence as to how educational outcomes can improve.

States can eliminate federal funding in four steps:

1. Analyze education funds by source: federal, state, and local.

2. Conduct a Cost of Compliance Study for federal funds.

3. Identify state programs to replace USED programs.

4. Shift education revenue responsibilities entirely back to the state.

*** and ***

One approach to generate required revenue could be to establish a state tax called “offset to federal funds” calculated to collect the amount needed. Since most of the federal tax is collected from income taxes, a replacement tax using the same model might be most easily understood by the public.

To keep from sending the federal government the money they previously took and gave back, taxpayers would need a mechanism to deduct this offset from their individual federal taxes. Since the state and local tax deductions were eliminated in the last major tax bill, a special arrangement would have to be made. However, there is benefit to the federal government in this arrangement as the savings from program improvements would be shared with them, since only the replacement funding is deducted.

*** end quote ***

Like the mouse that doesn’t understand “free cheese”, so to “We, The Sheeple” need to just say “no” to “Federal funds”.

First off, there are NO “Federal funds”  — EVERYTHING comes from the Taxpayer in one way or another.

(The idea of sending money to the Federal Gooferment and getting pennies on the dollars back tied to conditions NEVER made any sense to me.  Eliminate all the layers and cost associated with it.)

Second, the results of Gooferment Skrules is absurd.

How the Hell Do You Think Us Veterans Feel Right Now?
Guest Post by Kurt Schlichter

*** begin quote ***

Was I a sucker? I sure don’t want to feel like a sap, but the thought that I may be one arises when I watch this endless parade of patriots – including our last conscious president – being prosecuted for their political beliefs and treated differently under a two-tier justice system as the garbage institutions attempt to quash free speech, and as the alleged president, a desiccated, corrupt, old pervert, generally drives our country into the ground. I defended this?

I did 27 years in our military. I proudly swore to defend our Constitution. Now, I only washed trucks – I wasn’t a war hero like Pete Buttigieg or Da Nang Dick Blumenthal, and I certainly wasn’t killed in Iraq, Afghanistan, and also (I think) Maui like Joe Biden’s non-coke-addled son was, but I showed up. I dressed like a tree, marched around, went where they sent me, and did my job. Don’t get me wrong – it was not all bad. It was fun some of the time, and I got to do a lot of interesting things other people didn’t get to. I got a little money – very little – and I’ve always been intensely grateful for the chance to be an American soldier. And I took it seriously. That oath I took? It never expires. And now I just need to know if I was a sucker for believing all that Constitution and freedom stuff when I raised my right hand.

I know a lot of fellow vets who are asking the same question.

*** and ***

So, we return to the original question. Was I a sucker for doing what I did? Did I fall for the okey-doke? Was I the mark? Were all of us veterans fooled?

Absolutely not, because the America I chose to defend, and that millions and millions of veterans chose to defend, was worthy of our service and our sacrifice. The unworthy among us have temporarily taken over. The unworthy have gutted our institutions and, as Twitter legend Iowahawk memorably put it, worn those institutions as a skinsuit demanding respect.

*** end quote ***

Look at how Vets are treated in comparison to “illegal invaders”.

Look at the VA health system.

Look at “equal justice under the law” when vets get shafted.

All of us vets were betrayed.

Leave no man behind was our code; only to be betrayed by politicians and bureaucrats at their first opportunity.

I, for one, think it’s time to fix this once and for all.

Appeals court reinstates wrongly imprisoned student’s lawsuit against college for hiding evidence

  • Would-be law student, acquitted by second jury in 29 minutes, represents himself in civil case. Trial judge repeatedly botched statute of limitations, 3rd Circuit finds.

By Greg Piper
Updated: September 9, 2023 – 11:20pm

A student who spent 16 months in prison before a second jury exonerated him of sexual assault will get another chance to hold his public university accountable for withholding evidence during his first criminal trial, then refusing to give him a conduct hearing to clear his educational record.

The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals vacated most of a trial judge’s ruling that dismissed Darold Palmore’s lawsuit against Clarion University – since renamed Pennsylvania Western University, or PennWest Clarion, after a merger – and officials including the campus police officer who withheld security footage.

The three-judge panel unanimously remanded Palmore’s malicious prosecution, Brady due process, 14th Amendment due process, Title IX, negligence, and breach of contract claims for further proceedings.

The ruling is all the more remarkable because Palmore, a D.C. native who had planned to go to law school after his expected graduation four years ago, has represented himself throughout the two-year civil case against Clarion, albeit with guidance from sympathetic lawyers.

Washington is more of a gerontocracy than ever — no president has ever been older and the median age of the current Senate is 65.3 years, a record high. Though some House freshmen are in their 40s or younger, the median age in that chamber, too, is the highest it’s ever been. McConnell’s brain-freeze episodes, Biden’s moments of obvious confusion, and the tragic evidence of Feinstein’s cognitive decline keep raising questions about the age and health of America’s political leaders. Actually, they keep raising just one question: What do we do about geriatric officeholders who refuse to relax their grip on power?

The Dead Old White Guys didn’t anticipate that a gerontocracy would occur.

Let’s pick an age  — say full social security age  — for politicians to retire.

If they refuse to go, then someone can just shoot them under Marque and Reprisal power.

The incident happened on Saturday, August 26, when 37-year-old Mattia Aguzzi was on his way to a bakery with his girlfriend in the morning. “I heard a man scream when he saw the little girl leaning out on the ledge. The little girl kept leaning more and more and climbed over the ledge, she held on only with two arms and her legs were in the air,” Aguzzi narrated the incident to Sky24. He added: “I started yelling at her to stay still and to go back inside but she didn’t hear. When I saw her fall I stepped in the way, closed my eyes and hoped that everything was going to be for the best, I blocked her by cushioning the blow and we both fell to the ground…Initially I didn’t feel any sign of life, then the baby started crying and I breathed a sigh of relief.”

What’s the Grappler Police Bumper?
FOX 10 Phoenix  — Sep 2, 2023

Police pursuits are unpredictable, dangerous, and in some cases, even deadly.

These pursuits put not only officers’ lives in danger, but also innocent people who happen to get caught up in the chaos.

Until recently, there was no safe way to bring them to an end. Officers would have to rely on something called a ‘PIT Maneuver’ (PIT, according to an article on the U.S. Department of Justice’s website, stands for Precision Immobilization Technique) to try to stop the vehicles they were after by forcing a vehicle to spin out and come to a stop. Another option is to lay down spike strips to deflate the tires, but even then, the suspects would often keep going on the rim only.

Five years ago, however, a new option emerged in the form of the Grappler Police Bumper.

9/11, 22 Years Later: Will We Ever Get the Truth?
Guest Post by Kevin Barrett

*** begin quote ***

Carlson built his career by cultivating a reputation for straight talk, unfazed by political correctness. But as he suggests, straight talk about 9/11 in general, and WTC-7 in particular, is unwelcome in today’s USA. In mainstream media, even asking questions in unacceptable.

Why can’t we ask questions about Building 7? Because the answers are all-too-obvious—and all-too-embarrassing to the rulers of the intertwined American and Israeli empires.

World Trade Center Building 7, a 47-story high-rise, collapsed into its own footprint at 5:21 pm on September 11, 2001, seven hours after the Twin Towers were destroyed. Numerous witnesses reported police and emergency personnel announcing that WTC-7 was about to come down. Seconds before it fell, witnesses overheard a countdown to demolition (“five-four-three-two-one”) on police radio, followed by the massive explosion that precipitated the “collapse.”

The building fell at absolute free-fall for the first two-and-a-half seconds, and near-free-fall thereafter. That means that all of WTC-7’s vertical supports had somehow been simultaneously and completely removed. The only known mechanism that can do that is professionally-prepared-and-timed explosives.

The obvious controlled demolition of Building 7 threw a monkey wrench into the US government’s official 9/11 narrative. WTC-7 had been one of the most important buildings in America. It housed the CIA’s second-largest headquarters after Langley, Virginia, as well as the Secret Service, the Securities and Exchange Commission with its Enron files, the Internal Revenue Service, and many of America’s biggest corporate heavy hitters. What’s more, WTC-7’s 23rd floor was the home of New York’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM), where the local and federal governments would manage their joint response to any major disaster—like 9/11.

But the gloves are now off. So much about the American political system is rooted in precedent, and a precedent has been set that will allow Trump to open investigations into the many troubling actions taken by his predecessors. He has vowed he would quickly bring down inflation and gas prices, strengthen the economy, secure the border, and reintroduce a strong America on the global stage in just months. But taking on the Deep State is most important now, and he has demonstrated that he understands how vital this task is for America’s long-term future by recently urging Republicans in Congress to “fight fire with fire.” He also referenced “an eye for an eye” when asked, if re-elected, if he would “lock up” those in government who commit crimes.

JOBFINDING: Your “job” is to “find your NEXT job”

Wednesday, September 6, 2023

FROM REDDIT

I was fired by my employer today. They wouldn’t let me collect any personal belongings from my desk except my wallet, my keys and my own personal phone. Can they do this and if so how long are they allowed to keep my things?

# – # – # – # – #

MY CONTRIBUTION

On Wall Street, it was “common practice” for brokers (aka “financial consultants”, :”wealth managers”, etc. etc.) to keep a duplicate “shadow book” at home. This would be all their contacts and their information as well as portfolio holdings record. When they were “walked out”, their ”significant others”, who were not covered my NDAs or non-competes, would be on the phone letting “their Customers” know the news. Usually in a day or two, they were hired by a competitor and “their Customers” would be transferring their account to the new firm. Often, before a replacement was found for the departed, the Customer were already gone. That’s called “job security”. Brokerage house were always trying to discourage that “personal relationship” by inserting “assistants” into the process and relationships. But “high net worth” individuals want that “personal high maintenance touch”.

The lesson I learned was to keep duplicate files offsite and always remember that my “job” was to always be looking for my “next job”. Once, I had an offer in hand and resignation letter written, when I was fired as “surplus” about 2PM on a Friday afternoon. I was prepared to hand it in at 4PM and be “walked out”. Thanks to the timing, I was walked out with a very nice severance check which I wouldn’t have gotten if I’d quit. Started my new job on Monday with a renewed outlook to find my next job.

TL:DR Always be looking for your next job and plan / act accordingly!

Corporate mergers ALWAYS result in LAYOFFS. (Regardless of what “they” say!)

While NOT ALWAYS true, it’s usually the ACQUIRED company that gets laid off.

Occasionally when the ACQUIRER wants a particular aspect of the ACQUIRED company, that “team” will be spared.

Typically layoffs occur in the duplicate functions like HR, Finance & Accounting, mid-level management.

Be always prepared for it.  You should always be in “job search” mode.

REMEMBER:

Success for your generation is: (1) ruthless financial discipline — no bad debt; (2) a life long interest in learning — education — a degree — they can’t take it away from you; (3) a NON-OFFSHORABLE white collar job in order to save big bux; (4) a blue collar skill for hard times — never saw a poor plumber; (5) one or more internet based businesses — your store is always open; (6) a free time hobby that generates income; and (7) a large will-maintained network of people who can “help” you.

If you’re “surprised”, then you have failed at your most important job!

We Don’t Need Better Government Policies for Workers; We Need Better Money
August 31, 2023 by Michael Maharrey

*** begin quote ***

Labor Day is coming up. That means we will hear a lot about the plight of American workers. And we will undoubtedly hear calls for new policies to help make their lives better. But we don’t really need more government policies to help workers.

*** and ***

When he announced the closing of the gold window, Nixon said, “Let me lay to rest the bugaboo of what is called devaluation,” and promised, “Your dollar will be worth just as much as it is today.”

This was also a lie.

The dollar has lost more than 85% of its value since Nixon’s fateful decision, based on the CPI calculator. The purchasing power of a 1971 dollar is equal to less than 14 cents today.

*** and ***

Johnson promised removing silver would have no impact on the value of US coinage. “[The] Treasury has a lot of silver on hand, and it can be, and it will be used to keep the price of silver in line with its value in our present silver coin,” he said.

He was lying, just like Nixon.

When LBJ signed the 1965 act, the value of a dollar was almost exactly the same as it had been in 1792—0.77 ounces of silver. By 1980 the dollar had plunged to 0.02 ounces of silver. Today, a dollar today is valued at about 0.06 ounces of silver.

What does this have to do with the minimum wage?

Consider this: In 1964, the minimum wage stood at $1.25. To put it another way, a minimum wage worker earned five silver quarters for every hour worked. Today, you can’t even buy a cup of coffee with those five quarters at face value.

But today, the silver melt value of those five quarters stands at over $22.

That’s a $ 22-per-hour minimum wage.

Now flip things around. Today, it takes 88 quarters to pay a $20 minimum wage. If you paid that in 1964 silver quarters, the value of the metal would be something in the neighborhood of $390!

*** end quote ***

That’s a $ 22-per-hour minimum wage.

So it you’re asking for a higher “minimum wage”, remember that the same Gooferment asking is the one that screwed you in the first place!

Focus on the true cause of “inflation” and why you can’t make ends meet.

Argh!

Happy “Labor” day, suckers.

Don’t Vote Democratic
Alan Joseph Bauer | Aug 26, 2023

  • If you don’t want a completely open southern border, don’t vote Democratic.
  • If you want cheaper energy, don’t vote Democratic.
  • If you want a strong military, don’t vote Democratic.
  • If you want better and safer cities, don’t vote Democratic.
  • If you want your children to have a healthy and normal childhood, don’t vote Democratic.

*** and ***

  • If you want a safer America with less crime, don’t vote Democratic;
  • If you want a more prosperous America, don’t vote Democratic;
  • If you want a more united America without endless focus on racial and other needless divisions, don’t vote Democratic;
  • If you want a stronger military, don’t vote Democratic;
  • If you want a more confident America with less governmental interference in your life, don’t vote Democratic; and,
  • If you want a better future for your kids, don’t vote Democratic.

Seems pretty obvious to me.

Not that the R’s are “saints” and there really is a “uni-party”!

Try Libertarian?

In yet another example of the nanny state’s intrusion into the private lives of its citizens, President Biden’s so-called ‘alcohol czar’ revealed to Daily Mail that the United States Department of Agriculture could soon revise its booze guidelines to a meager two drinks a week.

Yeah, the war on drugs has worked so well.  Like the war on “poverty” and all the other “wars” the Gooferment wages.

It seems like nothing will be uncovered and prevented in the future?

Like Epstein’s black book or the various shooter’s manifestos!

VOCABULARY: “Jurymandering” is gerrymandering for jury pools

Thursday, August 31, 2023

ROUGHLY QUOTING:

“Jurymandering” is moving the Trump Georgia trial to Federal Court because the State Court trial will draw jurors from a mostly Democratic voter pool where as the Federal Court trial will draw from a larger less Democratic pool.

This was a very acute compact way to describe what was going on.  I just wanted to capture it for posterity so proper credit can be given for the insight.

It makes the obvious point about a “fair trial” in a political Law-fare!
