Officers censured for bringing ’embarrassment’ on Navy in ‘Fat Leonard’ scandal

WASHINGTON — Navy Secretary Richard Spencer has issued letters of censure to a retired rear admiral and two other officers found to have accepted inappropriate gifts and maintained unethical relationships with “Fat” Leonard Francis, the central figure in a widespread fraud investigation.

The censures – formal, permanent acknowledgements of wrongdoing – were issued last week to retired Rear Adm. Richard Wren, retired Capt. Timothy Conroy and Capt. Charles Johnson, the Navy announced Wednesday in a statement. The letters do not impact retirement benefits or pay for the officers reprimanded.

Why doesn’t it impact pay or retirement benefits?  Why aren’t there criminal penalties?

GUNS: Failure to prosecute allowed “gun control” to fail

Accused newsroom shooter’s stalking victim: I warned cops
By Amanda Woods
June 29, 2018 | 9:37am | Updated

*** begin quote ***

A woman who claimed that the Capital Gazette shooting suspect had stalked, harassed and sued her warned a former police official that “he will be your next mass shooter,” according to a new report.

The woman, whose name was not released, also told local station WBAL 11that Jarrod W. Ramos, 38, the shotgun-toting man who allegedly burst into the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Md., on Thursday, killing five staffers, was “a f—ing nut job.”

Jayne Miller, an investigative reporter at WBAL, tweeted that the woman told her Ramos became “fixated” on her for no obvious reason — causing her to move three times, change her name and even sleep with a gun out of fear.

Imagine if just one person in the newsroom was armed?

But the Gooferment want “We, The Sheeple” disarmed so this keeps happening.

The newspaper didn’t want to prosecute for fear of making the situation worse.  Guess that tactic didn’t work.

So we have a double failure of “gun control”: (1) folks have to prosecute the evil people so that “gun control” has even a chance of working; and (2) “gun control” kept the victims from being able to defend themselves.

So sad and so avoidable.

Requiescat In Pacem, America!

USB-C to USB-A Adapter

Friday, June 29, 2018

My tech adoption generally consists of long periods of inertia punctuated with the occasional frenzy of replacement. But I’m very glad to see USB C catch on, even if it means one of those frenzies. While none of our household’s phones are yet equipped with USB C, my Asus Chromebook is, as is my GoPro camera — and I know it’s the wave of the (near-term) future.

“My tech adoption generally consists of long periods of inertia punctuated with the occasional frenzy of replacement.”

Since I’ve been “retired”, I’ve moved from “bleeding edge” to “being dragged along kicking and screaming”.

New Jersey: ‘Surrender Your Guns Or Become A Criminal!’

Thursday, June 28, 2018

New Jersey, not exactly known for giving the people living within its borders freedom, has just passed a law that declares all guns which hold more than ten rounds of ammunition “illegal.” The state is ordering people to surrender their guns or become criminals.

UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

Like the gun owners in the Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerk, hopefully everyone will just ignore it.

The cynical ‘millionaires tax’ didn’t fool the SJC :: Jeff Jacoby

SHED NO TEARS for the “millionaires tax” ballot initiative, which the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court struck down on Monday. From the outset, the initiative was a cynical ploy to get voters to do something they have repeatedly rejected — replacing

How people from different countries count money

Tuesday, June 19, 2018

In this video, 70 people from 70 different countries from all over the world show how they count money in their respective countries. Fascinating and more than a little mesmerizing after a while. I wonder why these different techniques developed the way that they did… (via digg ) Tags: video

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Eric Peter’s Reader Rant! “We” Need and “I Believe”…

Sunday, June 17, 2018

Here’s the latest reader rant, with my comments below: Dave writes: I went for years as a healthy individual until a staph infection last April. Almost died. I am 75. You never know when it is your turn to be sick . So I am on the state insurance called Medicare.

Source: Reader Rant! “We” Need and “I Believe”…

*** begin quote ***

I agree that you never know when it is your turn to be sick. But that is not the issue. The issue – the moral issue – is whether your sickness and associated expenses impose an obligation upon me enforceable at gunpoint. And mine on you. My position is that they do not. That your life is yours and mine is mine and we each ought to be free to live our lives as we think best; to plan for life’s exigencies and regardless of them, accept that our problems, whether the result of irresponsibility or not, don’t give us the moral right to pick up guns and point them at other people.

*** end quote ***

As a little L libertarian, I agree that essentially EVERYONE is responsible for their own care.  However, under the guise of “insurance”, the Gooferment has made many promises, suggestions, “spins”, and innuendos about “coverage”.  So it’s no wonder that one of the “clovers” (Peter’s name for “We, The Sheeple”) is confused.  Given the “education” that passes for what happens in Gooferment Skrules, it’s no wonder that the disaster is ongoing.

I empathize with those of us in the same boat.  The Gooferment has stolen our savings by “taxation” and “inflation” in exchange for (non-existent) “protection” and (bankrupt and misrepresented) “insurance”.

What’s a crime victim to do?
