POLITICAL: Never ending wars are an accepted fact of life today

How Republics Perish
By Patrick J. Buchanan

*** begin quote ***

“Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded,” wrote James Madison, “No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.”

Perhaps Madison was wrong.

Otherwise, with no end to war on America’s horizon, the prospect of this free republic enduring is, well, doubtful.

*** end quote ***

The last Presidential candidate who was a “peace candidate” was Ron Paul. He was thrown out of the race by being accused of isolationism, pacifism, and essential being “crazy”. BHO44 became the “new” “peace candidate”; even going so far to get a Nobel Peace Prize for doing NOTHING. Then, immediately staring the pot and creating more wars. Argh!

So, who turns this around and how does it get done?

Sad to say, the only one with any semblance of a “peace bone” in their body — now that Rand Paul is gone — is Donald Trump. At least at one point, he said “leave the Ukraine to Putin” and let the “Muslims fight it out without us”. While not the “Let’s bring all the girls and boys home now!” of Ron Paul, I’ll take any shred of peace that I can get. And, the Donald has said things that make me think he’s not as “crazy” about war as the main stream media would like us to believe.

I can’t vote for a socialist or a uncovicted felon. So we have to see what choices we have.

I remember the line by in “Master and Commander” when Captain Jack Aubrey (Russel Crowe) says: “There, I have you! You’re completely dished! Do you not know that in the service … … [pauses] … … one must always choose the lesser of two weevils.”

  1. Did you ever see that pastiche of clips from about a dozen different major networks/stations about the results of the Iowa Straw Poll where Ron came in such a strong second place? It was truly Orwellian (though I don’t actually *know* how fair the presentation was) as news anchor after news anchor cited the winner and then skipped to talk about the third, fourth and 7th-place showings of EVERYONE BUT Ron Paul. Jon Stewart was the presenter on that I believe… Ahh! Here we go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMO7YG3Ul5g Truly amazing … and hard to see how it could possibly have been slanted much from reality.

Read a lot of Clancy back in the day. The USA lost its “peace candidate” when the Republican ran Ron Paul out as a “crazy old man”. And, proceeded to lost to an ersatz Democratic “peace candidate” who promptly revealed his true colors (i.e., Marxist corrupt Chicago politician). Argh!

  3. I wouldn’t trust Trump OR Hilary within a light-year of the nuclear button. I’d expect either one of them to be desperate enough to prove their “leadership” qualities that they’d get into a pissing match with Putin and the whole thing would spiral into escalation.

John, ever read Clancy (or, nowadays, the new “pseudoClancys” which are actually just as good)? The newest Clancy offers a scenario where Putin tries to flex his military muscles in Eastern Europe and things get pretty hot for a bit.

It’s interesting though: I’ve had some communications with Russians with regard to the smoking issues over there and Clancy seems to have captured their average views fairly accurately: in THEIR eyes, it’s the US that’s been nasty and pushy and threatening while they see Putin as just being a strong leader in defending Russian interests.
