Guess what guys. If I can’t figure out how to set the clock by bed time tonight. Back it goes!!

Dear Ms. Garcia: Way too late. You didn’t make your promised SLA. I wound up calling in. The clock is set. But, it didn’t work for several hours as I reset the clock over and over again. It just wouldn’t save. It was as if there was a magic button I was missing. When I called in and powered it up talking to the phone rep, magic: the clock was set. I hope whatever gremlin was there has left for other places. But, who knows. fjohn

p.s., Emailing me the reproduced instruction page is really irritating. Did you think I didn’t read it? Or couldn’t find page 17! The phone rep was equally condescending. Argh!

RANT: The Social Security scam

http://www.freemindstv.com/episode68.html
Free Minds TV July 4, 2008 (EP 68)

At the 22 minute mark of this video, FreeMindsTV tackles the Social Security Scam.

Forced “saving”!

Younger workers are screwed.

# – # – #

They nail a few points but overlook many of the flaws and falsehoods of the “plan”.

* It’s racist. It’s sexist. It transfers money from poor minority men to rich white women.

* It’s inter generational socialism.

* It’s unfair to people who die young; cheats their estate of all their savings.

* Ties into cigarettes and the morality around that. Politicians can’t get us to quit smoking because of its impact on tax collections and life span. If we seriously quit smoking, social security would go broke faster!

* It has been changed by politicians to our determent over time — from voluntary non-taxable to involuntary taxable! What Congress bestows; can and will be changed.

* An American educated economist in the 70s successfully moved Chile from socialistic social security just like here to private system without government control. Much to the people’s benefit. In a country where 70% of the people were illiterate. Amazing how people can understand and manage their own money.

* It has a negative rate of return. Not counting inflation, I’ve seen studies that assumed constant value of the dollar, and estimate the ROI of SocSec at between a negative one and two percent. Figure in inflation and it’s a joke.

* It ties into the inflation rate in several ways. Social Security takes your ‘contribution’ wink wink in more valuable dollars now and pays you back in less valuable dollars later. Then you get to spend your social security check on much more expensive stuff. Since inflation is not uniform across products.

* It give the politicians yet another slush fund. And, employs all those relatives and voters.

* It distracts the tax payer from the real issue — liberty!

Argh!

LIBERTY: gooferment, the meme that kills people

Thursday, July 3, 2008

***Begin Quote***

The greatest threat to mankind’s prosperity is government. A recent example is Zimbabwe’s increasing misery. Like our country, Zimbabwe had a flourishing agriculture sector, so much so it was called the breadbasket of southern Africa. Today, its people are on the brink of starvation as a result of its government. It’s the same story in many countries — government interference with mankind’s natural tendency to engage in wealth-producing activities. Blaming poverty on overpopulation not only lets governments off the hook; it encourages the enactment of harmful policies.

Yup, gooferment, the meme that kills more people than any disease.

RANT: If wishes were horses … …

Tuesday, July 1, 2008

http://www.lewrockwell.com/rockwell/grand-theft-society.html

Grand Theft Society
by Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.

*** begin quote ***

A core problem with government is that its managers believe that all reality will conform to their wishes if they issue the right orders, pass the right laws, and put the right people in charge. Reality resists this simple-minded approach …

*** end quote ***

(1) Reality is; laws are wishes.

(2) If everyone agreeed that your ‘great idea’ was a ‘great idea’, why do you need the guns of gooferment to force folks to comply?

(3) Even if your ‘great idea’ is passed into law — with credit to Harry Browne — it will be implemented and enforced with a different understanding and agenda.

(4) Gooferment is aggressive force that not only MAKES me doing something regardless of how I feel about the matter. It forces me to PAY for things that I am morally (religiously) opposed to. Cite the Amish and to a lesser extent the Quakers. And, it forces me to PAY for force being APPLIED to you.
