One thing that I have learned form reading all the old Jaspers’ obits is that you should write your own.

You should have your own “doomsday book”. It will come eventually to all of us. The financial writer all advocate having all your details in one place for your executor to access. Passwords as well.

I’ll have to start working on mine.

What color should it be?

Black? Nah, too somber. Inside I was a barrel of fun.

White? Nah, too pure. I certainly wasn’t that.

Pink? Nah, too gay. Not me.

Blue? Nah, too stodgy. That’s not the fun loving guy I was.

Paisley? Nah, too frivolous for a serious topic. I was always serious.

Guess it will be a recycled Green. For Jaspers. And, cheap. I was never cheap except in my old age.

Now where did I put my “treasure chest”. All I need is the eye patch to match my scar.

Argh!

RANT: Thinking about Memorial Day

When I think about Memorial Day, I think of all the VietNam era vets. The Draftees, the “Volunteers” (who sought to pick as opposed to the draft), and the Escapees. Escapees sort into two categories. Those that went “underground” and those that fled to (mostly) Canada.

My best friend in High School went underground when I volunteered. Naturally, we lost contact. He had to hide and I couldn’t afford to be seen with him. He died in an auto accident and I didn’t find out about it until years later.

And, all I can as is “why”.

The politicians and bureaucrats should burn in Hell for a long time for what they did to this country.

Hence, as a little L libertarian, I’d adopt George Washington’s foreign policy and Ron Paul’s tactic for bring the boys and girls home (i.e., jump on the first thing smoking heading home). And, to ensure it never changes, I’d take Heinlein’s idea to make it so only vets can vote and you’d have to be a vet to run for any elective office. Then, we’d have peace.

He argues for intervention. Sorry, but it’s not our place to “give” freedom to the people of Haiti.

We have too many “wars”: “OCO — Overseas Contingency Operation aka Terrorism”Afpak, Iraq, “Some Drugs”, Poverty, yada, yada, yada.

Sorry, we have way too many wars!

Time to condense. Like Campbell’s soup, DoD: brings ALL the boys and girls home, condense all the intelligence into DOD, and let’s cut the foolishness. Save some bucks too!

POLITICAL: Four month rotation

On a recent trip to AC, at the magic show, an USAF fellow was there. With wife and two little girls. (Guess he was leaving from McGuire) Under duress, he revealed that he was about to leave on Thanksgiving for a FOUR MONTH ROTATION as a medic to the “war”.

Of course, this made me start thinking.

Why four months?

… because 181 days in a war zone gives certain benefits, entitlements, and pay.

Why Thanksgiving?

… no clue. (A human being might have scheduled the 4 months to split the holidays.)

Why are we always at “war”?

… because “war is the health of the state”.

Why do we regard the military as a job?

… that family could lose the husband.

Why?

… because we don’t have the stones to stand up to the political class and say “no”?

Note that this is the George Bush Third Term that everyone was so afraid of.

(And, yes, I spoke, blogged, and bitched about Bush as well. I just wasn’t fooled by any politician. And, I wrote in Ron Paul! Not that it matters much.)

RANT: Do we remember Pearl Harbor?

Tommorrow, December 7th, Americans MIGHT remember the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. On a Sunday morning, 68 years ago, the US Navy were the recipients of a well-planned and poorly executed raid.

Twenty Five Hundred deaths that day; uncountable more in the resulting war.

Generations disrupted as they were in WW1.

And, the “cure” to the “Great Depression”. Would this be the beginning of the Leviathan Gooferment State?

Donning my tin foil hat, I call your attention to the role of FDR in provoking, if not orchestrating, the war he needed to restart the economy.

Our entry into WW1, by the “peace candidate” Wilson, allowed the seeds of WW2 to be sown. Our entry into WW2, by the instigator FDR, allowed the creation of a permanent “warfare” state.

This day is a reminder that the price of liberty is eternal vigilance.

… … not for the military invasion or aggression, but against the politicians who would enslave us in debt, welfare, and the never ending “war”.

Argh!

RANT: The role of the police today — revenue agents

Cops have become nothing more than revenue agents for the state. Roadside radar traps make them into highwaymen who robbing innocent travelers who fail to follow their posted warnings.

Seriously, who designs a road for NINETY or a HUNDRED, then posts it with 45, 50,55, 60 or 65, to nail the unsuspecting.

Seriously, roadside checkpoints for license, registration, insurance, drinking, drugs, and anything else we can think of, belong to an old WW2 movie about Nazi Germany. Where are your papers? Comrade, citizen, subject.

Argh!

Take DWI or DUI! It’s an excuse to hassle folks. OK, if you have an accident or, heaven forbid, hurt someone, then you should get the book tossed at you. (Unless your name is Ted Kennedy!) Otherwise, forget it. All the horror stories, come from repeat offenders — some with 10 or 15 “convictions” — or even police officers.

Sorry, but they have lost “respect”, because of their conduct.

The “Dial 911 and die!” is a toungue in cheek recognition that they are no more than a clean up squad. If they weren’t busy collecting revenue, then maybe they could go after real criminals.

End the drug war now. Pardon all the non-violent drug offenders. Close the FDA, DEA, and BATF.

Liberty and freedom for all!

Glen Beck’s site doesn’t place the blame squarely on the politicians who set up the conditions necessary to allow this to happen — victims who were un_Constitutionally disarmed.

Sorry, the Binghamton victims died because of New York State’s unconstitutional victim disarmament, aka gun control, laws. The center had no security. People rely on the “police” that are merely paper pushers. One concealed carry permit in that crowd and we would have a vastly different story. It works. Sprinkle a few “sheepdogs” in among the sheep and everyone is protected. Sorry, but it’s a fact of life. You have to protect yourself and your loved ones. Ignoring the security problem doesn’t make it go away. Even if the police were perfect; they can’t be there when the problems occur. Only a well armed citizenry can be the “police”. Take any of these mass murders and do a mental experiment. If we have, even under these draconian laws, 130 million guns in a population of 300 million, lets ASSUME that 10% of the populace chooses to arm themselves. That means that in the 14 dead, there would be one armed defender. And, in the 30 or so people in the center, there might be three armed defenders. I’m happy to give my fellow Americans — citizen or not — their right to defend their own lives. Just as I would want the same right. Glenn has a long way to go before he’s a “libertarian”. First, he has to put the blame squarely on the gooferment for setting up the conditions for this disaster, and so many others! imho!

@centerleft No I don’t assume that anyone can shoot straight under stress.

(Humorously, the police are far worse shooters than dedicated amateurs. Just check with any police range officer who will be honest or any cun club open event. It’s scary that we give these people guns. That’s where you should be afraid!)

My assumptiona dn hope is that just the threat of “sheepdogs” mixed in with the sheep will dicourage any would be gun man. There have been several examples of gunman being shot while they reloaded by an armed bystander.

The point is that the police can’t be everywhere. And, We The People are the “police”. See Katrina after the evacuation. It’s our willingness to stand up for what’s right and our fellow human beings that will count.

If I had a Concealed Carry Permit, I’d got o Front Sight for their four day training and spend more time at the range to maintain my proficiency. But, the Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerzee doesn’t permit its “citizens”. See the elite remember the American Revolution.
