SEC Incompetence
Posted by Mark A. Calabria

*** begin quote ***

But the porn charges are the least of the SEC’s worries. Also released was the IG’s report on the SEC’s failure to stop the Stanford Ponzi scheme. The report shows a clear pattern of incompetence at the SEC. Given the SEC’s failure to act on the Madoff scheme, and the repeated warnings about Stanford, one has to wonder how good SEC investogators are at discovering fraud if they don’t even pursue the clear-cut cases brought to them.

*** end quote ***

Government is ALWAYS ineffective and inefficient.

This is a classic example of that.

So, why should we even have an SEC?

RANT: Celebrities are are all images; no substance

Can the Holy Swoosh Save the Tiger Woods Career Brand?

*** begin quote ***

Have you seen the new Nike ad with Tiger Woods featuring the voice of his deceased father? It looks like Tiger may have added some new brand attributes to his already tarnished image including, creepy, odd, and opportunistic. And I’m wondering if Nike and Tiger would have been better off just leaving the scandal alone and letting time heal some of the wounds.

*** end quote ***

No, the “squeaky clean shine” on Woods can’t be recovered. He can be a force in golf. He can sell stuff. He can even become a nice guy. But he’s lost the “image”. His clay feet have cost him dearly. People, the great unwashed like me, don’t like frauds. You can be as nasty an SOB as you like, but don’t claim (or allow to be claimed for you) sainthood. Celebrities like Jane Fonda, Rosie O’Donnell, and Tiger have defrauded the pblic by claiming to be one thing and acting privately like another. People remember the adage: “fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on be me.” With celebrities, it seems the Sheeple are doomed to be disappointed. And, people wonder why we’ve become cynical?

FOOTNOTE:

Jane Fonda: Anti-war sits in a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun. I, and many other vets, never forgot that.

Rosie O’Donnell: The Queen of Nice, after she made a fortune on her daytime audience and retired, morphed into a nasty lesbian who demonstrated that the TV personality was a fraud.

Tiger Woods: Squeaky clean image was put to shame by a string of affairs worthy of an NBA player. At least the NBA players never claimed sainthood.

INTERESTING: Goldman sachs AKA the “New York Generals”

First They Came for the Criminal Investment Bankers…
Tim Cavanaugh | April 18, 2010

*** begin quote ***

The Securities and Exchange Commission’s civil action against Goldman Sachs is a certified crowd-pleaser, and based on two iron principles — that you never argue with the audience’s taste and that everybody who has ever worked for Goldman Sachs needs to be executed without trial — it’s probably not something we should be disputing too heavily.

*** end quote ***

Why do I feel this is kabuki?

Is Goldman Sachs now playing the role of the New York Generals? Or the Boston Shamrocks, New Jersey Reds, Baltimore Rockets, or Atlantic City Seagulls. Or any one of another patsies? Playing to the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Harlem Globetrotters!

We KNOW that Goldman Sachs is wired to the administration through little tax-cheat Timmy G.

We KNOW that Goldman Sachs has been “fronting” for the FED to allow them to appear to sell Treasury securities while buying them back the next day. Thus they are monetizing the debt. This is exactly what the Chinese fear. It’s hiding inflation.

We KNOW that Goldman Sachs has been manipulating the commodities markets. Specifically, the gold and silver markets. This could only happen with the CFTC and European participation.

So now you want me to believe that the SEC is going to take Goldman Sachs to the woodshed on trading losers to others knowing that the residential market was going to fall out of bed.

Please don’t make me laff!

Argh!

Corruption abounds.

Sorry, but I think this is “regulatory theater”! “Made-off” gave the SEC a black eye. And, Dodd’s “reregulation bill” is being laughed at. So some kabuki is in order to fool the Sheeple into believing in big gooferment again. So let’s trot out our captive resident Freddie Kruger and have the valiant SEC bureaucrats do battle to slay this dragon.

Goldman Sachs will probably plead out and be fined. And, the SEC will probably allow them to pay the fine with Confederate States of America Banknotes.

Argh!

MONEY: Accidental Foreclosures?

How To Handle Accidental Foreclosures
by Michael

*** begin quote ***

Foreclosure With millions of foreclosures reported in 2009, the possibility of a bank foreclosing on the wrong house becomes more and more likely. Every year, hundreds of homes are targeted for accidental repossession by banks and the result can mean embarrassment, property damage and lost possessions for the rightful owners.

*** end quote ***

Wow, never thought of this. It’s logical. With all sorts of papers flying about, clerical errors are bound to occur.

But, I would NOT call them “accidental”. They were deliberate.

Fraudulent, maybe.

I’d probably try to make an initialism that worked with:

Foreclosure Under C…. K….

No, what starts with a C and a K?

POLITICAL: Bart Stupak “Retire” before he is “retired” at the polls?

Bart Stupak May Retire From Congress After Massive Abortion-Health Care Battle
by Steven Ertelt LifeNews.com Editor
April 7, 2010

*** begin quote ***

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Congressman Bart Stupak, the formerly respected pro-life Democratic leader from Michigan, is reportedly considering retiring from Congress. Stupak is said to be so exhausted, along with his family, from the bruising repercussions of the abortion and health care debate he may consider quitting.

*** end quote ***

Couldn’t be because he led his constituents down the garden path about what he believed. And, now, the voters seek to hold him accountable. Pro-lifers got screwed; now, it’s their turn.

One reason is to always stay true to your principles in hard times; you can’t regain credibility when you trade your vote for some money.

POLITICAL: Social Security; a Ponzi scheme benefiting politicians and bureaucrats

Tuesday, April 6, 2010

http://www.ssa.gov/history/hfaq.html

*** begin quote ***

Q4: Is it true that Social Security was originally just a retirement program?

A: Yes. Under the 1935 law, what we now think of as Social Security only paid retirement benefits to the primary worker. A 1939 change in the law added survivors benefits and benefits for the retiree’s spouse and children. In 1956 disability benefits were added.

Keep in mind, however, that the Social Security Act itself was much broader than just the program which today we commonly describe as “Social Security.” The original 1935 law contained the first national unemployment compensation program, aid to the states for various health and welfare programs, and the Aid to Dependent Children program.

What were the voters of that age thinking? I understand the Great Depression was a terrible terrible time. And, I realize that they didn’t know about the FED. And, I realize that they didn’t understand that the Smoot Hawley tariffs caused it.

But, boy, what a classic blunder!

Now the gooferment seeks to try to convince us “it wasn’t intended to be our only retirement resource”! With IRAs, 401Ks, and a lot of prayer.

*** begin quote ***

President Roosevelt signs the Social Security Act, at approximately 3:30 pm EST on August 14, 1935.[9] Standing with Roosevelt are Rep. Robert Doughton (D-NC); unknown person in shadow; Sen. Robert Wagner (D-NY); Rep. John Dingell (D-MI); unknown man in bowtie; the Secretary of Labor, Frances Perkins; Sen. Pat Harrison (D-MS); and Rep. David Lewis (D-MD).

*** end quote ***

Can we dig up those folks and put them on trial? Like the old Soviet show trials. Argh!

RANT: Gore gets to limit his press coverage?

Gore gets camera-shy for N.C. speech, limits media
Posted: March 30
Updated: 7:16 p.m. yesterday

*** begin quote ***

“A Gore aide said Tuesday that media members will only be allowed to record video and audio of the first five minutes of Gore’s talk at Duke University on April 8. Photography will also be limited. Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider said the restrictions are standard for his talks but she wouldn’t say why they are in place.”

*** end quote ***

Guess when he gets really loony about the whole “global warming thing” he doesn’t want any refutation in the blogs.

That’s what passes for journalism these days. The lame street media doesn’t do anything but pass along the “barbara streisand” they get handed. Hard hitting journalism is reserved for when the “wrong team” is in the White House. Or the conservatives rally. Even then it gets made up like the spitting and name calling incidents.

No one claimed the money for video of it; guess it doesn’t exist. If it’s not videoed, it never happened. One of the congresscritters’ staff had a running vido as they took the historic walk. Wonder what that raw footage showed?

53 Glenn Beck Fans Get Tricked and Their Cars Towed
by Jon Bershad | 8:19 pm, March 30th, 2010

*** begin quote ***

They may have begun the night angry at our government, but last Saturday, 53 Glenn Beck fans got a new insidious and possibly corrupt faction to hate: a small towing company in Central Florida! (cue dramatic music)

According to Orlando news channel WFTV9, the possible scam went down at the University of Central Florida where Beck was kicking off the first leg of his American Revival Tour. The fans involved followed event parking signs and parked in a big lot. Unfortunately, it turns out the signs were fake and the lot was the private property of a local fraternity. Next thing you know, Orange County Towing and Recovery is spending eight hours hauling away vehicles.

*** end quote ***

Sorry, but this is “dirty pool”.

Special place in Hell for all involved.

And, I’m sure it will be promptly investigated. Like Tiger Woods was!

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: SSNs more than birth certificates

Shock over voided Puerto Rican birth certificates
Feb 27 10:46 AM US/Eastern
By SUZANNE GAMBOA Associated Press Writer

*** begin quote ***

WASHINGTON (AP) – Native Puerto Ricans living outside the island territory are reacting with surprise and confusion after learning their birth certificates will become no good this summer.

A law enacted by Puerto Rico in December mainly to combat identity theft invalidates as of July 1 all previously issued Puerto Rican birth certificates. That means more than a third of the 4.1 million people of Puerto Rican descent living in the 50 states must arrange to get new certificates.

*** end quote ***

You’d a thunk they could have come up with an ORDERLY process, communicated it widely & clearly, and done it with out mass confusion.

But it’s the gooferment!

Remember, without the deadly “social security number”, identity theft would be difficult.

NEWJERSEY: Tackling the NJ financial mess

Kneale: With NJ Governor Christie, a Star Is Born
Published: Thursday, 18 Feb 2010 | 12:35 PM ET

CNBC Media & Technology Editor

*** begin quote ***

And he cited a stunning stat: A 42-year-old state government worker in New Jersey who gets a 20-year pension has paid in all of $124,000—and will take out $3.8 million in payments and health coverage for the rest of his life.

This simply can’t continue, yet few other politicians are talking about the government pension bubble that could bankrupt some cities. A new report from the Pew Center on the States says states have promised to pay $3.35 trillion to current and retired workers—and are running $1 trillion short in funding that obligation.

The worst-off state: President Obama’s home state of Illinois, which has funded only 54% of what it will have to pay out. Unions now represent 40% of all government workers, and they are especially powerful at the local and state levels. Given the Dems’ union ties, ya gotta question whether benefit cuts are a viable option, as I wrote about here.

But I now hold out new hope, thanks to Gov. Christie of New Jersey. He brings a fresh new face and a voluble, emphatic voice to politics. Let us pray we hear a lot more from him.

*** end quote ***

Politicians “adding” part time jobs into lucrative pensions at the taxpayers’ expense is also a big problem.

Time to shift to something that resembles private industry.

(1) No defined benefit pensions for anyone.

(2) Eliminate ALL abuses.

(3) 401ks for everyone. “Recognition bonds” for all unfunded liabilities. Use rock solid Insurance Companies to protect both the employees and taxpayers.

Argh!
