GUNS: If conceled carry is not reciprocated, then why should drivers’ licenses be?

For Red States, What Comes Next After Constitutional Carry?

By Cam Edwards | 12:30 PM | January 19, 2025

*** begin quote ***

The bigger question is what pro-2A bills will garner enough support for passage. Campus carry, for instance, has been introduced for the past several years, but so far opposition from higher education and some business leaders has stymied its passage. Hopefully this will be the year it can finally become law, but it will take some effort from gun owners and Second Amendment advocates to get it across the finish line.

*** end quote ***

If a “gun control” State doesn’t recognize the reciprocity of other States “Constitutional Carry”, then maybe drivers’ licenses should have reciprocity either.

Maybe a New Jersey driver’s license should be allowed in Texas without a “road test”?  I’ve seen Jersey drivers and I’d understand Texas’ concerns.  Maybe you have to pass a written test (i.e., identify a stop sign), an eye exam, and short road test?  At every “border crossing”!

Laugh!

Only partially humorous.

Maybe it could only apply to New Jersey politicians and bureaucrats when they visit a “Constitutional Carry” State.  The eye test could be reading a series of RKBA memes!

Maybe this will inspire some action.

GUNS: The Gooferment has to STRICTLY enforce “felon in possession” and enhanced sentences for crimes using a firearm

Requiring IDs Doesn’t Prevent Illegal Gun Sales
By Tom Knighton | 12:29 PM | November 07, 2024

*** begin quote ***

One thing many anti-gunners want is for there to be an ID requirement for each and every gun sale in this country. The fact that many also oppose ID requirements for voting seems kind of hilarious to me, but it is what it is.

Most of us have had to show ID while buying a firearm at one point or another. Maybe not for face-to-face transfers, but any gun bought in a store required an ID.

This, some would argue, makes those sales nice and secure.

Yeah, about that…

*** and ***

ID requirements may sound good, but the truth is that it just means the market for fake IDs gets a little bigger. Similar can be said about literally everything else means to thwart criminals in their efforts to arm themselves.

It’s a lost cause and a waste of time to keep beating heads against walls and calling it gun control.

The Gooferment has to STRICTLY enforce “felon in possession” and enhanced sentences for crimes using a firearm.

I hope DJT4547 requires each of his Assistant Attorneys General to report how many convictions they get for “felon in possession”.  The following month, the lowest scoring AAG, and their next in command, should be required to report in person, a la Apprentice style, why this happened and how it’s to be remedied.  If DJT4547 doesn’t like the excuses, then their second in command can give it a try.  I bet crime with guns will drop like a rock within a year.  Criminals are not stupid.

GUNS: A “restraining order” doesn’t “restrain”; an armed citizen is a good “first responder”

North Carolina Woman Won’t Face Charges After Shooting Ex As He Broke Into Her Home
By Cam Edwards | 8:30 AM | October 26, 202

*** begin quote ***

The local sheriff says Bush had previously violated a protective order on two separate occasions and pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of breaking and entering as well as violating a domestic violence protective order in April of this year. It’s unclear if Bush was sentenced to any jail time after his guilty plea or was instead placed immediately on probation, but he was back in court in August on another charge of violating a protective order.

That case was dismissed by a judge when the victim failed to appear in court to testify, despite the objections of local prosecutors. If the local courts had cut Bush a break after his first arrest, I can understand why the woman might have been reluctant to go through the ordeal of testifying against him once more, but without her testimony it might have been impossible for prosecutors to produce any evidence that Bush had committed a crime.

When the victim failed to appear in court, the judge dropped the domestic violence restraining order against Bush, but the woman successfully applied for a new protective order last month; one that was still active when Bush attempted to break into her home.

This incident not only highlights the importance of domestic abuse victims being able to protect and defend themselves, but also the struggles they face to find justice in the courts. Under North Carolina law, violating a domestic violence protective order is a misdemeanor offense punishable by, at most, 150 days in the local jail. With time off for good credit, that five-month sentence can be cut down to four months behind bars, which means that even if Bush had received the maximum sentence allowed he would have been released from custody long before he showed up at his ex’s home earlier this month.

*** end quote ***

Good thing for that judge who let him out and about, despite several demonstrations of his “respect” for the “LAW”.

As I’ve blogged before:

“Restraining orders don’t restrain squat!  Give the girl a gun and warn the guy if he gets shot no charges against her will be filed.” https://bit.ly/3Ups95v

And, if she needs a gun, then the sheriff should give her one, “loan” her some bullets, and take her to the range for a short course in safe shooting.

GUNS:The unsubstantiated word of any politician, in this case Kamala Harris, is worse than hearsay

What We Don’t Know About Kamala’s Gun Ownership
By Cam Edwards | 4:30 PM | September 21, 2024

*** begin quote ***

So, we still don’t know much about Harris’ handgun, if it actually exists. Even if she doesn’t want to give free advertising to a particular gun company, there are still plenty of things she could tell us about her gun ownership, including:

  • How often does she go to the range to practice and train with her gun?
  • Is her pistol available to all gun-buyers in California, or is it an “off roster” gun available only to law enforcement?
  • What’s the magazine capacity of the pistol?
  • Why did she choose to purchase a firearm? Was there a specific incident that caused her to become a gun owner, or just a general need to protect herself?
  • Why does she continue to own a gun now that she has Secret Service protection?
  • What factors did she consider when purchasing a gun?
  • Did she try out multiple guns before making her purchase?

None of these are “gotcha” questions. If Harris really is a gun owner, they should all be easy to answer.

*** end quote ***

Sorry, but the unsubstantiated word of any politician and | or bureaucrat is one step below “hearsay evidence”.  Inadmissable,  in my “court of public opinion”.  We all know that politicians and bureaucrats say all sorts of things.  Fact checked or not, I want proof.  Especially about this “gun claim”.

Argh!

GUNS: NSSF in partnership with ATF launched Operation Secure Store

Smash-and-Grab Gun Thefts Threaten Communities, Small Businesses. NSSF Has Real Solutions.
By Lawrence G. Keane | 4:01 PM | August 30, 2024

*** begin quote ***

NSSF in partnership with ATF launched Operation Secure Store®. It’s just one part of NSSF’s Real Solutions. Safer Communities® initiatives to provide answers to the problems the firearm industry faces. Operation Secure Store (OSS) proactively educates federal firearms licensees (FFLs) in identifying and quantifying vulnerabilities and risks associated with the business of firearms commerce and industry-related operations as a whole. NSSF offers firearm retailers a free Risk and Security Self-Assessment Tool to begin to understand how firearm retailers can layer security to help stop these crimes.

Operation Secure Store started when ATF noticed a concerning trend and approached NSSF to help stem the problem. That led to OSS. ATF now responds to every burglary to work with the FFL and local law enforcement to ascertain the number of firearms stolen and put the information into the stolen gun database. This is not a compliance inspection. The ATF treats the FFL as what they are – a victim of a violent crime. ATF will also alert firearm retailers in the area to be on guard because these gangs will often victimize other local area gun shops, and even at times hit the same firearm retailer a second time.

For any firearm retailer, regardless if they are an NSSF member, a security consultant team is available to help with this. NSSF set up a hotline for any firearm retailer to get more information – 1-800-FLLNSSF. That’s not just for security questions, but also federal regulatory compliance questions, lead and noise Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) noise compliance questions and access to NSSF suicide prevention resources.

Politicians Punish Firearm Retailers

These Real Solutions are imperative because gun control politicians see these crimes as opportunities to punish firearm retailers with state-level laws that make it increasingly difficult and costly for small business owners. They want to treat the victim of the crime – the dealer – as the criminal and blame them for the crime committed by gangs. Washington state passed a law earlier this year that requires gun shop owners to have bars, grates and security screens on all windows and commercial-grade metal doors at each point of entry. The law mandates firearms be stored overnight in a fireproof safe. The state also requires security alarms systems monitored by a remote base that’s capable of notifying law enforcement and retain those recordings for seven years. Those systems must include motion and sound detectors. Those system also require monitoring of customers.

*** and ***

Jason Rantz, a talk-show host for KTTH, called these requirements an effort “to put gun shops out of business with insurmountable, frivolous costs under the lie that it’s about public safety.”

He’s not wrong. And it’s happening. Stan’s Merry Mart in Wenatchee, Wash., announced they would no longer sell firearms after 11 years in the business because of the new burdensome requirements.

*** end quote ***

Politicians and bureaucrats don’t want to solve the gun problem.  They just want to restrict law abiding people from exercising their natural right to keep and bear arms.  Crime would shrink drastically if the victims MIGHT be armed.

GUNS: The AR-15 is the most popular model of rifle in the United States

AOC Accidentally Gives Gun Rights Advocates a Gift
By Tom Knighton | 12:30 PM | August 04, 2024

*** begin quote ***

Yet the courts have held that and many anti-gunners have even tried to approach the AR-15 as being a particularly unusual weapon. Despite it being the most popular model of rifle in the United States, some have even tried to argue that it’s not commonly owned.

AOC, however, in acknowledging that these are one of the most popular semi-automatic weapons in the nation, is also acknowledging that they are, in fact, commonly owned.

Whether you think “commonly owned” should matter or not, the reality is that many people do accept that as the standard, and for AR-15s, that hurdle has been cleared. If there should be a hurdle or not is a different topic entirely.

*** end quote ***

This “commonly owned” should not matter since we couldn’t own an automatic weapon for decades.  Not that a wise gun owner would want one unless you were facing a mob rushing you.  Then, you’d want to put as much as you could down range and wouldn’t worry about aiming.  Only in the movies, does the hero fire without aiming.

The Marines teach fire discipline.  “One bullet; one kill”.

AOC should be thanked for the rhetorical “gift”.

Home Invasion Illustrates Why Gun Control Is Stupid

They took the money and pistol-whipped the victim and are currently at-large.

Now, either this gentleman didn’t have a firearm or couldn’t get to it in time, so it didn’t turn into a defensive gun use. However, let’s say, for the sake of argument, that he did.

Do you think one shot would have ended the threat? There were four of them. According to this report, all four were armed.

In out forefathers’ days, “home invasion” was unheard of.  Crime came with a chance of death.

So too, a “home invasion” should have a high probability of “return fire”.

There’s is no excuse for the Gooferment promising “protection” and enforcing disarming victims.

GUNS: Use the DMV for other permits?

Five simple policy suggestions for lawmakers in Second Amendment friendly states

2) Integrate carry permit applications and issuance at the DMV

(Full disclosure: I am repeating an idea I heard from Attorney Mark Smith at the Four Boxes Diner YouTube channel.) Local DMV offices are well-positioned to process carry permit applications. They have cameras, computers, desks, paper forms, pens, etc., and employees who know how to process driver’s license applications. Processing carry permit applications is well within DMV employees’ abilities. States with pro-Second Amendment majorities should add carry permit applications to the portfolio of services offered by their DMV offices, and advertise the new service loudly and proudly.

*** end quote ***

I think this is a great idea.  Let’s turn the “DMV” into a people-centric resource for deal with the Gooferment!
