The bottom line is that the more plant-based diet “led to a greater improvement in quality of life and mood. Patients consuming a vegetarian diet also felt less constrained than those consuming the conventional diet.” People actually felt the conventional diabetic diet was more restrictive than the plant-based diet. Disinhibition decreased with a vegetarian diet, meaning those eating vegetarian were less likely to binge, and the subjects in the vegetarian group tended to feel less hungry. All of this helps with sustainability in the long term, which is, of course, critical for any dietary change. So, not only do plant-based diets appear to work better, but they may be easier to stick to. And, with the improvement in mood, patients may exhibit desired improvements not only in physical, but also in mental, health.

Would it have made a difference, who can say?

But, upon reflection, I’d hope I’d have been smart enough to try it.

One of my favorite speeches ever was the one I gave in Houston, on secession, during the last presidential campaign.

The Mises Institute hosted a one-day event on secession. Ron Paul and I were among the speakers. The Washington Post sent a reporter, for the obvious purpose of reporting on Ron’s remarks as a way of embarrassing then-candidate Rand Paul.

Now you’d think secession would be a question we could discuss rationally, the way we discuss anything else. The American Union is obviously just a utilitarian arrangement, to be judged by how well it works, and not sacred and unchangeable. (Why on Earth would it be? Does the Union exist for the people, or the people for the Union?)

Of course, we’re not allowed to have this conversation. Why, neither Mitt Romney nor Barack Obama thinks it’s a reasonable question, so that does it, citizen!

Why can’t we dissolve the Union?

Allow CA to do a @calexit. And, everyone else that wants out to get free.

You’ll say that the “we” is Americans – to which I say that our capacity as Americans to make all these marvels has emphatically not been dismantled.  We do make them, sometimes directly and other times in a roundabout way.  But always we make them.  As the economist David Friedman points out, we Americans have an ingenious machine for transforming the corn that we grow in Iowa into automobiles that we drive.  That machine is called a “cargo ship.”  Into the ship we put corn and, a few days later, out of the ship comes automobiles.  We make cars by making corn.  This production process is akin to every other production process: mix various inputs together to produce something different and greater than the sum of its parts.

This is pretty funny. 30 seconds to dispose of the barrier?

Link when they mandated “bear proof trashcan” in North Jersey. The bears just threw the cans at the conveniently located garage doors; splitting the cans open and damaging the garage door. Then they proceeded down the street and doing it at every house. Nothing like having an annoyed hungry bear in the neighborhood.

When will people learn that wildlife will find a way to survive. And, we’d best not get in their way.

A Russian man has been hailed as a hero after saving a female shopworker from an armed man who was ‘attempting to rape her’. 

Alexander Vysotsky was walking past a shop in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, when he saw a young female clerk being attacked by a man, and dashed in to pull him off her, and held him down until police came.

The ‘Babushka Lady’ is the nickname given to the unidentified woman who was present during the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The woman appeared in numerous films that captured the final moments of Kennedy’s life, she was seen standing, holding a camera to her face even though most of the surrounding witnesses had taken cover. The woman never came forward and despite multiple appeals and an extensive investigation by the FBI, her identity (and what she may know) remains a mystery to this day.

There are just way too many unanswered questions. “We” need to have a real “housecleaning” for all the facts of the JFK assassination. And before all the witness die and take their story to the grave!

Maybe I’m an old curmudgeon but what lesson do the children get from this?

Like the “everyone gets a trophy”, it just sends the wrong message imho!

“Come home; all is forgiven!” should be “You promised; you knew the rules; you agreed to the rule; here is the consequences.” 

Children are smart and observant. It tells them that they don’t have to keep their promises.
