VETERANS: Inspiration in Steadiness From Band of Brothers Paratrooper, Carwood Lipton

Wednesday, November 11, 2020

During a season of intense stress in history, Carwood Lipton, an elite World War II paratrooper from the Band of Brothers, provides a prime example of someone who held things together. On a wintery evening in Belgium’s Bois Jacques woods, Sergeant Carwood Lipton slipped through the twilight from foxhole to foxhole, encouraging the soldiers in his care.

VETERANS: Memorial

Wednesday, November 11, 2020

Image: Wikimedia Commons The Anthem Veterans , in Anthem, Arizona, consists of five white pillars representing the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Each pillar contains a slanted elliptical opening, and the five are arranged so that at 11:11 a.m. on Veterans Day, November 11, the sun’s light passes through all five and illuminates the Great Seal of the United States, which is inlaid among 750 red paving stones engraved with the names of veterans.

Neat. And make me sad for all the vets.

Let’s bring all the girls, boys, women, and men home now! We have so many politicians and bureaucrats to send in their place if it’s really needed!

When Lawrence Brooks, the country’s oldest-known World War II veteran, turned 111 in September, he received more than 10,000 cards, a salute from a squadron of aircraft and a happy birthday call from Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards.

His daughter, Vanessa Brooks, 60, heard her father’s end of the conversation, as the governor thanked him for his Army service and chatted with him about his big birthday. As the call concluded, it seems, the governor told Mr. Brooks to reach out if he needed anything.

I don’t know if the Governor did anything or there was publicity that made it happen.

And, I’m very pleased with what happened!

VETERANS: How To Invoke a Face Mask Exemption at the Veterinarian & How To Make Sense of all Face Mask Orders

Wednesday, August 26, 2020

Dear Stevo, Just wanted to thank you again for your advice and encouragement regarding resistance to mandatory mask mandates. I have an appointment with my vet this week. The vet clinic has a “mandatory” mask requirement, with which I do not intend to comply.

In another talk about the misery caused by using euphemism to dull the language Carlin said “I bet you, if we’d have still been calling it shell shock, some of them Viet Nam veterans might have gotten the attention they needed at the time. But it didn’t happen, and one of the reasons is because we were using that soft language, that language that takes the life out of life. And it is a function of time, it does keep getting worse.”

OK!  Let’s go back to calling it “shell shock” and help any of the vets that are still around and have not suicided!

You can’t listen to this and not be ENRAGED at the politicians and bureaucrats of the Veterans Administration.

I know that the Gooferment is immoral, ineffective, and inefficient. As well as untrustworthy. But in this case, they have “outdone” themselves with possibly criminal neglect of of returning combat vets with Brain Trauma Disorder (BTD) and PTSD.

I pray for my fellow vets and will ask any politician seeking my vote what they have done on this issue, if anything.

VETERANS: Once again the US Gooferment reneges on a commitment

DOD Immigrant Soldier Citizenship Promise Broken by U.S. – source Military.com

Six soldiers have filed a class-action suit charging the U.S. promise of citizenship for service – dating back to the nation’s founding – has been broken by DoDs restrictive policies on naturalization. The six non-citizens, who all enlisted in the Army under the Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest program ( MAVNI), alleged new and lengthy security checks for possible terrorist ties and other measures have effectively blocked them from obtaining citizenship. The suit, filed on their behalf by the American Civil Liberties Union, charges DoD policies enacted in 2017 “unlawfully obstructed the ability of thousands of service members to obtain citizenship, placing them in a state of personal and professional limbo.”

An inexcusable action!

VETERANS: Do NOT bring back the draft; repeal its legislation

Monday, June 29, 2020

As I begin the 12th year of Bugle Blasts – something different – a rare editorial comment.

The Selective Service System and a Draft

There is occasional talk about bringing back the draft to replace or supplement the All-Volunteer US military. Having retired from the Army and having worked as a civilian for Department of the Army, the Selective Service System and Department of Veterans Affairs, a return to a draft is an option I have generally supported since I believe it would provide a better cross-section of the nation’s youth vs. the all-volunteer service. But would it be practical course of action?

If a draft (which, under present laws, would be all-male) were authorized today, the Selective Service System could provide the first allotment of 100,000 men in approximately 13 days, with additional allotments to arrive subsequently. So, where would they be sent for training? Where would they be housed? Where would the uniforms and equipment come from? Who would do the training? Where would they be sent when basic training was completed? Finally, how would they be paid? The first month base pay for the first allotment of 100,000 would be about $180,000,000 (a new recruit earns about $1,800 a month base pay). But today about 56% of new enlisted personnel are married and have families (70% of new officers are married), so all that additional pay and allowance-reiated cost would be added on top, plus medical care, quarters, schools and more.

Before the US initiated the WW2 draft an Army Private or Navy equivalent earned $21 a month base pay, unchanged since the Civil War, and all recruits were unmarried. It is interesting that in 1940 when the War Department mobilized the National Guard, a National Guard Private earned $1 a day. Their pay could not be reduced to $21 a month. As a result there was an immediate pay raise for all active military personnel.

So, while a draft might be an excellent idea, there are a few problems associated with taking such an action.

*** end quote ***

America was a different place both before the draft by Abe Lincoln and after Viet Nam.

In the prior time, “We, The Sheeple” joined their State militia.  In the later time, “We, The Sheeple” had see enough young boys ground into hamburger.

I oppose the “DRAFT” as unconstitutional slavery. Ditto of the various forms of “draft” disguised as “training programs”, Gooferment-sponsored volunteer “opportunities”, and any form of “public / private partnerships”.

It’s the “endowed by their Creator” part that prohibits Gooferment coercion.

And, let’s not forget that the Dead Old White Guys abhorred a “Standing Army”, as well as “special militias” like the BATF, FBI, etc. etc. and (let’s not forget) the (well armed) Department of Agriculture.

VETERANS: Veterans’ Day should be renamed to Armistice Day

Pro-war propaganda
Tom Woods

*** begin quote ***

Pro-war propaganda.

A fellow I do a fair amount of business with posted on social media today that this is not a day for “antiwar propaganda.”

Nonsense.

Veterans’ Day was originally Armistice Day, in commemoration of the cessation of hostilities in World War I. The armistice was signed in the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, in 1918.

For four years, Europe tore itself apart, and sent millions of men into a meat grinder for no good reason. Tens of thousands would die, and the front would move a matter of yards.

Especially on this hundredth anniversary of the original Armistice Day, how does anyone seriously expect to honor the fallen without any discussion of the madmen who sent them into this horror?

Did their deaths occur in some abstract realm, outside time, space, and causation?

Or were they killed in specific ways, under orders from particular people?

Anyone speaking in mere platitudes today is an enemy of mankind.

The left-liberals and neoconservatives alike, who always seem to put aside their pretend differences when an idiotic war is in the offing, and who make saccharine speeches about democracy and openness and peace, are enemies of mankind.

As a reminder of how deranged our cultural elite and political establishment are, how many major political figures of the past hundred years have been dismissed from polite society for urging too much war?

There are lots of things that get you demonized and ostracized in America, but that ain’t one of them.

Usually it gets you called a “statesman.”

This is deranged.

Especially on Veterans Day should we speak out against war and the lying propagandists who foment them.

And the state cheerleaders who make excuses for them. (Why, Saddam really did have WMDs! etc.)

Especially culpable are the so-called conservatives who claim to distrust government propaganda — and yes, they’re indeed very sound on the milk subsidies question — but who can’t ape that Pentagon press release fast enough.

To hell with all of them.

*** end quote ***

The best way to “celebrate” Veterans’ Day is DEMAND that “we” stop creating so many of then, and “wasting” their lives,  IMMEDIATELY.

Never met a vet who disagreed.

VETERANS: Pearl Harbor Unmasked, by J. Alfred Powell – The Unz Review

Saturday, June 15, 2019

Stinnett comments: “Pearl Harbor’s Battleship Row and its old dilapidated warships presented a mouth-watering target. But it was a major strategic mistake for the Empire. Japan’s 360 warplanes should have concentrated on Pearl Harbor’s massive oil stores … and destroyed the industrial capacity of the Navy’s dry docks, machine shops, and repair facilities”[249]. Six months later, at the battles of Coral Sea (May 4-8, 1942) and Midway (June 4-7), the warships of the Pacific Fleet which were at sea when the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred permanently destroyed the offensive capacity of the Japanese Navy to operate in the eastern Pacific and permanently crippled its defensive capacity in the western Pacific. Thereafter, as informed observers understood, a Japanese attack or invasion of the West Coast of America was a total logistical impossibility. Nevertheless, two months later, the internment of West Coast Japanese American citizens began in August 1942.
