No reason apparent to me.

I am leaving Microsoft. But before I go, I have my latest novel at chapter 56 of 100. Can’t leave before that’s done.

Anyway, I email my doc after every major session. Now it’s hung up. I can’t email it and can’t get away from the screen to email it.

Argh!

I get ‘unspecified error’ and I can’t find anything online about getting out of it.

McBookaire: Field experiment with McBa

I ordered a ‘man bag’ for McBa. (Mac Book Air … I’m always accused of using acronyms) I took the 35$ one that looked like it would suffice. Some of them are price in the hundreds. Guess they think if you spring for a McBa, then you’ll spend any amount for anything. Maybe Martha; not me. The dumb thing didn’t come with a shoulder strap so I borrowed one. I’ll gripe about that vendor when I get around to it.

Any way I took McBa out in its ‘man bag’ and it worked perfectly. Fired up the vwubbie (Verizon Wireless Broad Band usb modem). And everything worked fine.

There was a wifi signal but I couldn’t connect. Argh!

McBa ran for more than 2 hours on the battery driving vwubbie.

I as careful to shut down; not just close the lid. Just closing the lid drains the battery in 12 hours.

So far, I’m pleased.

If Jones’s ruling is upheld on appeal, it will have important consequences for the software industry, where the legal fiction that software is merely licensed is widely employed. In addition to discouraging the market for used software, software firms have also attempted to use the “licensed, not sold” theory to enforce restrictions on reverse engineering that would otherwise be fair use under copyright law. If software is sold, rather than licensed, then no license is required to install and use the software, and the terms of shrink-wrap licenses may not be legally binding.

The Autodesk case is not the only case regarding the first sale doctrine working its way through the courts. Another lawsuit filed last summer concerns another eBay seller who sells used promo CDs. Like Vernor, the plaintiff in that case faced repeated DMCA takedown notices and sued to vindicate his right to sell used merchandise online. EFF is representing the plaintiff in that case, and McSherry tells Ars that while there are important differences between the cases, the opinion bodes well for EFF’s case because “it affirms that copyright owners can’t use license restrictions to strip away first sale rights.”

So, imagine my surprise when Linkedin Corporation wrote to me today telling me that they’d suspended my group called “Keep STRONG!” – ostensibly for this well-worn-out old Linkedin reason: “The LinkedIn Groups feature is meant for like-minded peers who have a similar base of professional experience. Group members should have some structured
off-line association with other professionals. We do not feel your group goes with bringing like minded professionals together in the LinkedIn manner. We have suspended this group at this time.”

Here is the group description I wrote for the group “Keep STRONG!”: “It is NOT your job to help those who seek to drag you down, to weaken you. That’s their job. Your job is to acquire as much encouragement as is needed for you to have a healthy life. YOUR job is to Keep STRONG!!”

Well, I’m singularly unimpressed. I signed up. Figured it would be good to track Frau Reinke’s medical exploits. It’s dumb. And a giant waste of time.
