Laws for you, not them

*** begin quote ***

They pass laws with no intention of obeying them themselves. It happens every day in America – in city council chambers, in state legislatures and in the nation’s Capitol.

It’s too bad Corzine got hurt.

But it’s a good illustration of the way arrogant elected officials put themselves above the law.

*** end quote ***

I think that the seat belt law should be repealed immediately. As well as speed limit, cell phone, and all the other “laws” (I object to calling what men do a “law”. Gravity, now there’s a law!) that are aimed at “us” and not “them”.

I’d allow in my court as an absolute defense that a diktat from some capitol or another was null and void if (1) the “leaders” didn’t have to obey it; (2) if it wasn’t uniformly enforced and universally enforced; and (3) there has to be a “victim” (i.e., a real flesh and blood person that gets hurt).

Now you know why I won’t be a judge!

RANT: Menlo Park train station

Tuesday, April 24, 2007

1015 news today reported that “they’re beginning work on the Menlo Park trainstation … (insert big number of millions of dollars)… (long litany of improvements) … paid for mostly with Federal money”.

“FEDERAL MONEY”!!!

There ain’t no such thing.

It’s generally conceded that NJ PAYS far in excess of Federal Taxes than it receives back in Federal benefits. That in itself is a losing proposition!

So it’s money stolen from NEW JERSEY taxpayers. It’s THEIR money.

It’s also generally conceded that GOOFERMENT takes between one quarter and three quarters for itself — a handling fee — for its own expenses.

SO, we send double the amount to Washington for the privilege of getting half back for a train station.

Shouldn’t we have just done it our self and cut out the handling fee?

Better idea. Get the Gooferment out of mass transit entirely.

When McDonald’s improves its restaurant, I don’t pay them to do it. Do I?

Argh!

Here is how Bloomie saves lives. On the exact same day he told rational people they were sick, we had a murder suicide in Queens. A 20-year-old man, with a history of mental disturbances, shot and killed his mother, his mother’s invalid boyfriend, and the boyfriend’s hired nurse. He then wounded a nephew, and turned the gun on himself. Before the incident, the mother three times tried to get the cops to do something, but they said she needed a court order. The victim’s sister said, “He was threatening to kill her, and she told the police everything. The police said we can’t do anything about it.”

UNION, N.J. — Former Gov. James E. McGreevey is teaching ethics, law and leadership at Kean University.

When he was in office, McGreevey was often criticized for the appearance of ethical lapses.

N.J. Gov.’s SUV Went 91 Mph Before Crash

*** begin quote ***

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) – The SUV carrying Gov. Jon S. Corzine was traveling about 91 mph moments before it crashed, Superintendent of State Police Col. Rick Fuentes said Tuesday.

*** end quote ***

Yeah, five seconds before the crash. Like I believe that. Hearsay evidence on the 1015 radio show disputes that “modest” speed. The caller reported that the other driver in the crash said that “he looked to move over and then they were there”.

What is the top speed of that Suburban?

AND, the real question is why does the political class feel that they are above the laws that they impose on us?

The guv’s security detail is to prevent his assassination and kidnapping. By whom? The republicans? We know that Trenton is one big happy pork fest. For all their moral indignation with the “other side”, we know that the duopoly happily ensure that no one disturbs the feeding at the public trough!

No, I don’t believe their story. And, yes, I think it demonstrates the new “ruling class”.

Pitchforks and torches anyone?

RANT: Sharpton is a professional race card player

Monday, April 16, 2007

http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig7/lelong4.html

Imus and the Nappy-Headed Ho’s
by A.D Lelong

*** begin quote ***

But with Rev. Sharpton it’s different. He IS offended. Would he have been offended if Imus had called some Wisconsin women’s basketball team (assuming they were of Scandinavian descent) “Cheese headed Viking Amazons”? Would The Rev. Al Sharpton have been in high dudgeon had Imus referred to a Boston Jesuit College women’s basketball team by saying, “a bunch of freckled, whiskey drinking bricktop sluts”? I don’t think so. And most Americans of Norse or Irish decent wouldn’t have either. Maybe a couple church groups, here and there, but this would not have become a national hot issue.

What is really at issue here is that Sharpton is a professional race card player. It is his stock in trade. It is the only real vocation he ever had. It has made him good copy in the NYC and national media. He can get reporters to show up at a press conference. And he knows how to use the media to bully his victims.

Now I don’t begrudge a mountebank from earning his daily bread, but when I see Rev. Al talk about using the FCC to get Imus fired for doing his puerile shtick, this has serious ramifications for free speech. Sharpton said (and I’m paraphrasing) that we own the air waves and have a right to remove someone who abuses his position. Actually, “we” don’t own the air waves. There are no stock certificates in air wave frequencies. They have been usurped by the government starting with the Radio Act of 1912 after the Titanic sinking. Radio licenses are in effect government rented easements, like feudal lease-hold estates. They can be rescinded just like a king could revoke a writ of title from an earl. The radio stations own them as a peer owns his title.

The mere hint of a threat of losing a license terrifies ALL radio station license holders. And given that most license holders are corporations controlled by an unthinking collective of conformist non-intellectual executives, without regard to principle or rational thought, a Sharpton figure has a chilling effect on free expression by the talk-host employee. Sharpton has a radio show on a station here in NYC. Did he lose his time-slot when he referred to White business owners in Harlem as “white interlopers” after the Freddy’s department store fire on 125th street 12 years ago when a black gunman shot up and torched the store killing 8 in protest because the white owner did not hire enough blacks? Was Sharpton punished when he failed to distance himself from Jesse Jackson and his “Hymietown” remark? Or the Tawana Brawley hoax? Or when he called the Central Park jogger, beaten almost to death and brain damaged, a “whore”?

*** end quote ***

I have a feeling that the whole Imus affair is going to have some interesting ramifications. Perhaps, the USA will wake up to the fact they are being manipulated.

RANT:Taxation is really “voluntary”? Yeah right!

Saturday, April 14, 2007

Tax Day
by Murray N. Rothbard

This unsigned editorial, written by Murray N. Rothbard, appeared in the April 15, 1969 issue of The Libertarian (soon to become The Libertarian Forum).

*** begin quote ***

April 15, that dread Income Tax day, is around again, and gives us a chance to ruminate on the nature of taxes and of the government itself.

The first great lesson to learn about taxation is that taxation is simply robbery. No more and no less. For what is “robbery”? Robbery is the taking of a man’s property by the use of violence or the threat thereof, and therefore without the victim’s consent. And yet what else is taxation?

Those who claim that taxation is, in some mystical sense, really “voluntary” should then have no qualms about getting rid of that vital feature of the law which says that failure to pay one’s taxes is criminal and subject to appropriate penalty.

*** end quote ***

It’s humorous that the gang in the District of Corruption slide the due date to the 17th. Couldn’t have taxes due on Emancipation Day! Might as well as have it on Independence Day! Or, how about Election Day!! No secret why it’s 6 months away from election day. So people will forget. And, they do.

I’m crazed!

Instead of wasting time on irrelevant shock jock, black leaders need to be fighting a growing gangster culture.
By JASON WHITLOCK

*** begin quote ***

I don’t listen or watch Imus’ show regularly. Has he at any point glorified selling crack cocaine to black women? Has he celebrated black men shooting each other randomly? Has he suggested in any way that it’s cool to be a baby-daddy rather than a husband and a parent? Does he tell his listeners that they’re suckers for pursuing education and that they’re selling out their race if they do?

When Imus does any of that, call me and I’ll get upset. Until then, he is what he is — a washed-up shock jock who is very easy to ignore when you’re not looking to be made a victim.

N.J. Governor Critical After SUV Crash
Apr 13, 12:19 PM (ET)
By GEOFF MULVIHILL

***Begin Quote***

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) – Gov. Jon S. Corzine was apparently not wearing his seat belt as required by law when his official SUV crashed into a guard rail, leaving the governor hospitalized in critical condition, a spokesman said Friday.

***End Quote***

I guess his security detail won’t get any doughnuts for a while.

What was he doing in Atlantic City?

Why was he going to the RU – Imus meeting? Did he think that these ladies couldn’t take care of one old washed up guy? Perhaps, he was going as the chief law enforcement officer to protect Imus from RU?

(I suspect it was a photo op!)

I wonder if he will give himself a 46$ ticket.

No one has said how fast anyone was going. Speed limit is probably 65. Take a lot of energy to throw an suv like that.

I’ve ranted before about the state and its minions on the roads before. This is just another example of it.

Now the Guv’s detail is usually two cars and bunch of troopers. And, the white truck disappeared like the fellow on the grassy knoll. Maybe they’d just prefer him to get away so there’s be no conflicting stories. Hard to believe a pick up truck could escape a trooper chase car.

Was their video in any of the cars? Maybe there was some careless and reckless going on unrelated to the mythical white truck.

Why do we have a governor anyway?

Now we will hear the drumbeat of why we need a Looney Tennent Guv. It’s not like we don’t have spare politicians running around with nothing to do. Maybe we could get mcGreasy and Wittless to combine as a caretaker office of “governors past”. At least we get something for the obscene pension they are collecting.

And what’s wrong with Cody doing double duty? It’s not like there are separation of powers issues. Just pass around the rubber stamps as usual.

Any way, I wish the Guv a speedy recovery. I have more questions about Karla-gate that he can refuse to answer.

I think you erred in your article.

Imus didn’t get the “heave ho”.

(I’ve gotten the “heave ho”. And, it felt like being fired and there was no “ho” in the heaving.)

Imus got a “time out” in the popular parlance.

And, even that was “delayed”.

Wonder what Nanny911 would say to that?

We’re all Democrats. I think most of us want to see a healthcare system that provides coverage to everybody. Most of want to see an education system that gives opportunity to every kid. All of us think that we’ve got to start getting our troops out of Iraq, and so really what we’re doing is we’re trying out for quarterback…”

Rutgers Press Conference Set For 11 A.M.

Members of the Rutgers women’s basketball team and coach C. Vivian Stringer planned to offer their feelings Tuesday on the gathering storm.

*** end quote ***

When I first heard this bozo’s comment, I was shocked. I thought he was trying for ratings. And, he got them. Everyone is talking about him and his comments.

For my part, I never liked the “shock jock” genre. Hence, I give no of them any of my valuable attention.

For the RU women, as a season ticket holder, I remind them “sticks ‘n’ stones”. Gratuitous opinions don’t make me what I am or am not. As far as their image, that is their responsibility. As far as how Imus sees them, that’s his problem.

I see strong young women who are finding their way in a difficult world. As far as their hairdos, I wish I had jet black hair again. As far as their sexual orientation, habits, or propensities, that’s no one’s business but theirs.

The comments of a clown should be “rewarded” with social ostracism. If all the moral outrage was turning off his show, his ratings would administer the ultimate rebuke. For my part, since I don’t listen to him and don’t like him, I can’t participate in the “turn off”. I can tell anyone who admits to listening that his comments reflect badly on them. When you fill your mind with trash, what would you expect?

I think that the marketplace should administer a strong lesson to Imus, MSNBC, and CBS Radio. For our part, we should ignore all of them until they DEMONSTRATE a change of heart.

I urge the RU women to take the high road. I’d just ask “what could he have been watching as they busted their collective butts to accomplish something”. I certainly didn’t see what he sees. And, I’ve been to a lot more games than he has.

RANT: 65$ permit for a hot water heater

Thursday, April 5, 2007

I just got a “permit” from the local komisars. For the privilege of playing the plumber to put in a hot water heater, the plumber paid on my behalf, a “fee” to the local komisar of plumbing 65$!

What for?

The local komisar is supposed to send a bureaucrat to “inspect” the installation.

Why would I want that? If I want the installation inspected, why can’t I just look at it myself?

Argh!!!

The gooferment is the only one who can force me to pay for services I don’t want!

Ahh, once again, the Nu Jerzee State Gooferment is up to their old tricks. They promised “tax reform” and we are been given a “welfare program”. Property taxes are high here to fund the Gooferment’s Youth Propaganda pre-Prison Training Facilities. So, now we will have lower property taxes, “sort of”. But, not for everyone, based on your “income”. What a joke. A property tax based on income. Isn’t that an “income tax”? How stupid are the tax payers in NJ? No one intended it to happen. It was a small thing — just a few letters printed on identity cards. Certainly no one in the Belgian colonial government of Rwanda had any idea that the words “Hutu” and “Tutsi,” printed on pieces of paper, would later enable the murder of between half a million and a million people.

Likewise, no one in the Department of Homeland Security intends anything bad by establishing standards for REAL ID cards that include a designation of ethnicity. In fact, this is an entirely voluntary aspect of the REAL ID program. State governments can choose to designate ethnicity, or not.

Of course, it can’t happen here. Japanese internment aside. Governments kill their citizens! REALID is an abomination, or at least it should be, to all Americans.

RANT: 1015 sports report this morning skipped the NCAA mens bball

Tuesday, April 3, 2007

I went to sleep before the end of the Florida – Ohio State mens bball game last night. (TV schedules don’t match my schedules. But, that a different rant.) So this morning, I was interested in who won. The 0609 sports report on 1015 had lots of commercials, the fact that many of the pro teams were idle (Who cares? I assume that, if you don’t report a score, then they didn’t play.) But nary a mention of the 2007 NCAA Final Game. In terms of significance, as if any “game” could be significant, the this has to rank right up there. But, no, no mention. Argh!

p.s., Florida won

Some times the essence of good leadership is to be a good follower. There was an old slogan that went “Lead, Follow, or Get Out Of The Way”. As a “leader” of me, myself, and I, I don’t have to have every great idea personally. Good leaders are good followers. Distilling “leadership”, it’s really about blocking and tackling for the folks who do the work.

In this particular case, KentB has declared a good strategy that we should all get behind.

I’ll go a step further. I’ll denounce it here on my blog for what it is “the aggressive initiation of force on another person”. As a Libertarian, that goes against my basic beliefs.
