Morgan Freeman Not So Color Blind As I Thought
by Brad Schaeffer
*** begin quote ***
Morgan Freeman is a truly gifted actor and a highly intelligent man who has starred brilliantly in a litany of my all-time favorite films from Glory to The Shawshank Redemption, to Unforgiven, just to name a few. But I think when it comes to race relations he is doing a disservice to his country and his own people (I guess we can put his race back on the table after all, 60 Minutes reprimands notwithstanding). He has resorted to the ugly charge of racism because things are not going his way on the political scene. This is all the more disappointing because in this country today we have very real divisions, the roots of which stem from diametrically opposing visions of what sort of nation we wish to be in the future. The last thing we need is to stoke the fires of unsubstantiated race-baiting when it is policy, not pigment, that is at the heart of the growing opposition to Barack Obama’s presidency.

Over time, I’ve put others on that “list” — Roseanne Barr, Rosie O’Donnell, Alex Baldwin, Janeane Garofalo — of with whom I choose not to support or spend my money on.
For this diatribe, sadly, I’m adding Morgan Freeman to that list!

In some ways I don’t blame BofA for the move. When Senator Durbin introduced the “Durbin Amendment” into the Dodd-Frank financial reform bill that effectively capped fees large banks could charge retailers that accept their debit cards, everybody in the free world knew exactly what would happen. The big retailers got a windfall, and consumers got the shaft through higher fees. The only irony here is that Senator Durbin is a democrat purportedly looking after the little guy. You can probably guess what I think of the Durbin Amendment.

OBAMA’S BLUNDER: MISSING LIBYAN SURFACE TO AIR MISSILES
By Dick Morris And Eileen McGann 09.28.2011
*** begin quote ***
For twenty years – long before 9/11 – the danger of terrorists armed with surface to air missiles shooting at passenger planes has been the secret fear of many top political leaders. In the late 90s, a terrorist network was nabbed trying to bring them into Newark Airport, but the airline industry and the government have done nothing to equip passenger airplanes with any defense against these always deadly missiles.
Now Barack Obama has committed the ultimate sin: He has let 20,000 surface-to-air missiles escape from military depots in Libya. According to ABC News “U.S. officials had once thought there was little chance that terrorists could get their hands on many of the portable surface-to-air missiles that can bring down a commercial jet liner. But now that calculation is out the window, with officials at a recent secret White House meeting reporting that thousands of them have gone missing in Libya.” An estimated 20,000 of these “portable, heat-seeking missiles have gone missing from unguarded Army weapons warehouses.”

Bill O’Reilly Tackles History in New Thriller, ‘Killing Lincoln’
Sept. 27, 2011
*** begin quote ***
Fox News Channel talk show host and political commentator Bill O’Reilly takes a step away from politics and into history with his new book, “Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assasination that Changed America Forever.”
In “Killing Lincoln,” the first work of history from the New York Times bestselling author, O’Reilly partners with historian Martin Dugard to deliver a true-crime account of the murder that shocked America, and took down an American president.
The authors recount the weeks leading up to and immediately following the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, from the final days of the Civil War to the manhunt for John Wilkes Booth, the man who quickly became the country’s most wanted fugitive as the prime suspect in Lincoln’s death.

Lincoln is my pick for WORST president ever. Far and away.
O’Reilly continues the sanctification of Lincoln.

Not that he should have been assassinated. But, he initiated the force.

NFL memo warns teams on faking injuries
By BARRY WILNER AP Pro Football Writer

For the most part, such delay tactics have been considered gamesmanship, similar to a hockey goalie suddenly needing equipment repairs when his team is getting besieged. Or untouched soccer players writhing on the ground in pain to get a stoppage – and to slow momentum built by the other side.

Seems obvious to me?
The injured players need protection.
Any stoppage due to injury, that player or all players are out of the game for the quarter.

IMMIGRATION: THE PIVOTAL ISSUE FOR THE GOP – DICK MORRIS TV: LUNCH ALERT!
By Dick Morris 09.24.2011
*** begin quote ***
In this video commentary, I discuss how the dominating issue for the GOP primaries has now become immigration. Not jobs, not the economy. Immigration. Why? What’s the answer? What are its political ramifications?
*** end quote ***
Summarizing Dick Morris’ points:
(1) employer sanctions
(2) guest worker
(3) easy national id card
As a little L libertarian, I disagree with the underlying premise — that there is such a thing as “illegal immigration” or that the whole focus is on the wrong thing.
What’s wrong with attracting peaceful people who want to come here to work?
I guess Dick would put a giant black plastic garbage bag over the Statue of Liberty!
Perhaps, we should seek to get to the root?
We have always “welcomed” immigration. OK, maybe not so welcoming, but tolerating it. We recognized that more workers means more productivity. The transcontinental railroad was built on the bodies of Chinese and Irish immigrants.
The key issue is welfare.
No one wants to subsidize freeloaders. By “illegal immigrants” or native-born freeloaders. (We could also stand to eliminate the corporate welfare queens as well at the same time.
Now, the crime issue that Dick alludes to has it’s roots in the “(pseudo) War on (some) Drugs” and that “illegal immigrants” can be taken advantage of. That can be fixed by legalizing drugs and letting the free market apply itself to the problem. And, by a better green card system.
I’d OPEN the borders. When a NEW immigrant, or even a temporary guest worker, shows up at the border crossing, if I were “King”, there’d be a very simple entry process. Take fingerprints and DNA for a database and a high speed directory look up, criminals get arrested. A quick physical for dangerous communicable diseases. And, issue them a “green card” and a Taxpayer Identification Number. Have them watch a short welcome to the USA and send them on their way. (Maybe we could make a couple of bucks from Visa signing them up for a credit card and WalMart recruiting them for their stores. You get the idea.)
I’d also reduce the minimum wage to zero.
No employer sanctions needed. No “guest worker” program; just easy entry without welfare. No national id card required.

The second is that very few of those who die from lack of medical care look like Mr. Blitzer’s hypothetical individual who could and should have bought insurance. So would people on the right be willing to let those who are uninsured through no fault of their own die from lack of care? The answer, based on recent history, is a resounding “Yeah!”

Upon reflection, it seems to me that:
(1) The Welfare / Warfare State fueled by the Federal Reserve Bank’s printing press and controlled by all the “BIG” groups (i.e., the military industrial complex, Wall Street, the trial lawyers, Big Unions, Big Banks, Big Pharma, Big Auto, Big Gooferment, …) impoverishes everyone. The elite rich have the capability and resources to ride the storm that the poor, old, and middle class don’t.
(2) American’s are the most generous people on the planet. Even with inflation and high taxes, they continue to support charities. Why would that change when more wealth is retained by those who create it?
(3) The Gooferment is excluding all private efforts and transferring that control to bureaucrats. How can that be good?

But over and above that, raising taxes in a down economy is economic suicide.
They will have to cut spending. Before they “drive” the economy into total collapse.
Everyone is looking at the uncertainty ahead — how much will an employee cost me? — what are the economic prospects ahead? — what are these idiots in DC doing? — and waiting for the storm to pass.
I personally like Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 plan. At least it’s easy to understand. I doubt we can ever pass it. Since the politicians and bureaucrats will be fighting for pennies. That’s not a bad thing. Just never going to happen.

The White House’s invited guests who will hear President Obama speak to Congress tonight about creating jobs for the common man include a CEO under fire for moving jobs to China and a mayor who recently built a six-foot wall around his mansion.
Jeffrey Immelt, chairman of GE and head of the president’s jobs council, tops the list of invited guests who will listen to Mr. Obama’s speech from the first lady’s box in the House chamber.
Mr. Immelt has been criticized for GE’s plan to move the headquarters of its x-ray business to Beijing; Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich, Ohio Democrat, has even called on him to resign from his presidential post promoting U.S. jobs.

This guy, Immelt, is a perfect example of what’s wrong with this picture.

Included topic wise will be some comment on the many CEO’s of major corporations whose pay is greater than what their companies pay in taxes. In most instances, the major coprporations pay no taxes.
Which…..proves the point that our tax system is out of whack and needs replacing. Too many loopholes. I say throw the whole thing out and go to a flat tax.
Another item to be discussed is the proposed law in California to require minimum wage to be paid adult babysitters. That does not bother me. Most babysitters are well paid. Much more per hour than minimum wage.
*** end quote ***
The correct corporate tax rate is ZERO! Corporations don’t pay taxes; only real human beings pay taxes. A corporation is a fiction. All it does it pass along its costs in its products and services. For real people to pay. The Gooferment loves this because it hides taxation. Buy a can of beans. How much tax did you pay hidden in that can? Don’t forget the gasoline tax to deliver those cans. You’ll never be able to figure it out and that’s exactly the point. If the corporation can’t cover its costs, it goes out of business. It’s a joke.
If people knew the true cost of Gooferment, it’d be the French Revolution all over again.
Minimum wage laws are dumb. If you and I agree on a wage, what right does the Gooferment have to tell us we can’t? It ensures that we have unemployment. When is “nothing” better than “something”? When the Gooferment can “give” welfare under the guise of “helping”. Argh! To preempt the argument of “living wage”, don’t we have the “earned income tax credit”? Argh!
Minimum wage is a tax on business which gets passed along in higher prices. Argh!
And, don’t forget inflation. The cruelest tax on people. Especially the poor, those on fixed incomes. Your wealth is stolen silently. And, don’t tell me there’s no inflation. Like 9% unemployment, zero inflation is a cruel Gooferment joke. Save your cereal boxes, write the price paid on the box, compare a few boxes. Watch the contents go down as the price goes up. Then tell me there’s no inflation.
Liberals are so naive.

The Bombing of Nagasaki August 9, 1945: Another Example of Christians Killing Christians in the Name of Christ
by Gary G. Kohls
*** begin quote ***
So, at 11:02 am, August 9, 1945, in the middle of morning mass, the Christians of Nagasaki were boiled, evaporated and carbonized in a scorching, radioactive fireball that was several times hotter than the sun. The vibrant center of Japanese Christianity was wiped out. It had become Ground Zero.
And what the Japanese Imperial government could not do in over 250 years of persecution, American Christians had done in 9 seconds. 8,500 of Nagasaki’s worshipping community of 12,000 perished that day. None of those who died were combatants.
*** and ***
Perhaps the next military atrocities like Nagasaki, Fallujah and My Lai can be prevented if a substantial number of Christian churches courageously and publicly start to resist the militaristic policies of their nations by actively refusing their government’s call for the bodies and souls of their sons and daughters.
If the churches start to exercise their sacred duty to warn their parishioners about the soul-destroying nature of war, it may not be too late to save our dying, war-torn, morally and financially bankrupt planet.
Heeding the lessons of Nagasaki is a good way to start.

Diocese of Orange raises bid for Crystal Cathedral
By Marianne Medlin
*** begin quote ***
Garden Grove, Calif., Aug 11, 2011 / 05:59 am (CNA).- The Diocese of Orange upped its previous bid and signaled openness to new negotiations for the Crystal Cathedral after board members recently announced that the building is no longer for sale.
*** and ***
The liturgist for the Orange diocese, Monsignor Arthur Holquin, said July 26 that several changes would need to take place in order for the Crystal Cathedral to become a Catholic worship space.
Along with a central altar, a tabernacle and a baptismal font, the building would need a “cathedra” or bishop’s chair. While renovations are needed to the building, “not much deconstruction would be required and the iconic personality of the original architecture and design would, for the most part, be retained,” he said.
Purchasing the Crystal Cathedral is an attractive option for the diocese because it provides an instant solution to its building needs and would cost roughly half the $100 million price tag for the planned Santa Ana cathedral.
Though the diocese made an official $50 million bid for the Crystal Cathedral on July 22, the church’s board later voted against selling it and decided to appeal to church members and viewers to donate the funds instead.

Reminds me of the French’s Maginot Line and Patton’s famous apocryphal remark “fixed fortifications are monuments to man’s stupidity”.
Maybe a cathedral is marketing? Of an idea who’s time has past. “Big Church” must join the dustbin of failed concepts like: Big Gooferment, Big Oil, Big Pharma, Big Labor, Big Biz, “Too Big To Fail” (2B2F), Social Security “Insurance”, the misnamed Federal Reserve Bank, Wall Street, Fiat Paper aka “monopoly money”, and all such stupidity?
