My advice to Paul is to take direct aim at McCain. Sharpen the differences between the two camps. Show how McCain is a loser against either Clinton or Obama.

Emphasize strongly that the electorate is aiming to pick Clinton or Obama at present (this is very clear!) Then sell yourself as the only Republican who has a chance to beat them by mobilizing both young people and independents and democrats.

Republicans want to win elections, but they have lost their libertarian soul and gained a harmful war-supporting evangelical component. They must be steered away from their instinctive support of people like Huckabee and McCain and toward a more strategic view of who can beat Clinton and Obama. In a sense, go above the heads of the Republican primary voter to the general electorate.

What positions should be emphasized that will resonate with the public? Make every effort to find out, and then focus on no more than three of these issues, such as (1) ending the Iraq War and avoiding other such debacles, (2) putting the economy in order and taking down the horrendous government debt, (3) avoiding the coming crash of Medicare and bringing great medical advancements by freeing up the health care system. I do not know what these issues are, I am guessing, but any successful politician has to find and stress them.

I agree. Hit the point that only Ron Paul offers the American electorate a clear choice on these issues. And, since in Regan’s sage advice that a President can only have three objective and does well to accomplish two, focus is essential.

This is probably the hardest issue for Libertarians. At best, it devolves into a shouting match. As worst, we have to divide the baby as King Solomon is reputed to have done.

First principle is that government has only one mission: to protect rights. Among these are the right to life. So clearly, gooferment has some role in protecting people’s lives. We as a people have to determine what that means. But that is a completely different discussion than the one we have been having. Groups warring over who’s going to to tell who what to do.

We need a lot less “telling” and a lot more “listening”.

That phrase about the consent of the governed is very important.

What if someone doesn’t consent?

Had time to watch the other three parts, and I think he NAILED it! It got all his points in and, other than a few umms and ahhs, I think he did very well. Especially where he talked about the softer form of fascism. Corporatism, lobbying the government, and the regulator – regulated embrace, he was spot on. After that performance, I’m even more enthused with his chances. Nobody else talks like this directly to the American people.

Cut the government to Clinton levels and there is NO need for the income tax. FBI shouldn’t be enforcing Federal law on citizens. CIA is totally unconstitutional. They are in effect private armies that the Dead Old White Guys would have recognized as oppressive.

The People in the Sovereign State of Kalifornia passed medical mj. The feds (dea, fbi, and irs) raid the clinics — steal the drugs and money — and charge NO ONE! Why is that? To keep from getting slapped down in court.The Drug War is joke. All the “wars” are similar jokes.

When the People wake up, and hopefully they will before it’s too late, this will end by jury nullification, just like Prohibition.

A state panel is recommending a hike in the minimum wage and an indexing scheme that would tie it to the cost of living index — a move designed to prevent the kind of neglect that allowed the minimum wage to fall so far behind inflation in the first place.

May I point out that the BIG winner in ALL minimum wage hikes are the gooferment workers, the unions that get “parity” via pay table or linkage of some type, and the friends of politicians.

The taxpayers get killed by higher cost of gooferment as well as a slight rise in prices.

But the real victims are the marginal workers and marginal business. At the margins, some workers lose their jobs and some businesses fold hurting everyone. Teen and minority unemployment goes up.

It’s very simple. Follow the money!

On a moral basis, where does the gooferment get the authority to interfere between the freely agreed contract between employee and employer. When they put a “price floor” on labor, they ensure that the marginal worker gets to make ZERO forcing them on the dole AND at the same time depriving the business of the ability to get work performed at a price that can be afforded.

It seems so simple.

The New York Department of Health And Mental Hygiene objects to deli owners keeping cats around to deter rats on the grounds that animals are not allowed into establishments where food and drink are served. That’s all well and good, judging by certain infamous news clips (above), but we’re pretty sure that a few well-tended cats prowling around is more hygienic than the alternative.

Laws don’t do SQWAT!

There are “animals” (i.e., rats) around food establishments. If we have to have “animals”, I’d prefer cats!

I remember in my youth stores of all types (i.e., deli; fish; bodegas; bakeries) where cats were common place. I really never thought about why, but it’s obvious now.

Sometimes, simple solutions are the best.

Maybe the poor guy being fined can claim it’s his seeing eye cat?

My name is Gérard Hoeberigs. I’m a 25-year old historian, born and raised in the Netherlands. I have no specific ties with the USA, but I have a general interest in politics, economics and of course history. I’m currently occupied writing a thesis to complete my Master Degree in International Relations.

In the Netherlands there aren’t any libertarian politicians and since I support small and local government, I was very happy to find out that there is one politician who does share most of my ideas.

In the field of the International Relations, I usually clash with professors and students regarding sovereignty and interventions. I don’t believe that ‘peace-enforcing missions’, in which states force their system of government (democracy) upon other states, are effective. Just look at Vietnam; the USA were unable to force capitalism on Vietnam, but what couldn’t be done by coercion, did happen without American interference: decades later, Vietnam turned itself to a more capitalistic economy.

I’m also concerned about the ever-growing governments. From a historical point of view, it’s easy to notice that states have always been trying to enlarge themselves. Since the beginning of the 19th century there has been an exponential growth of state-power, taxes and civil servants. Big government is often counterproductive, but nobody is going to downscale it, because which civil servant likes to fire himself or his colleagues?

Except for that, I’m concerned about the devaluation of the dollar due to the trade deficit combined with inflation; the patriot act which undermines the rule of law (trials/lawyers aren’t necessary anymore to be put into custody) and the impopularity of the United States around the world. Not only in muslim countries, but also in Europe the USA have reached an all-time low in popularity.

When I tell my friends in Europe I support a presidential candidate most people immediately ask whether it’s a democrat or a republican. When I answer it’s a republican, people tell me I’m crazy. Yes; all over the world people have a tendency to judge on their prejudices rather than actually investigating the other point of view.

The thing is; even today most people don’t know Ron Paul. I honestly believe that if Ron Paul ends up as the next president, he will not only ensure peace, prosperity and freedom, but on top of that he will restore the popularity of the USA around the world like when JFK was president. Ron Paul being the president will not only be good for the USA, it will be in the best interest of the rest of the world as well.

That’s why I support Ron Paul.
