Did Roe Just Get Effectively Overturned? – LewRockwell

A few months ago, Governor Greg Abbott signed the “heartbeat law,” and everyone on the left was screaming about going to the courts to fight for “reproductive rights.” Frankly, I thought we’d be in the courts by now rather than watching the new law go into effect.

So what happened? Well, the law was written in such a way that it makes it difficult to challenge in the courts.

What should be a very private decision between a woman and her support “staff” is suddenly the Federal Gooferment’s business.

We should have a national debate on when does life begin and when do human rights inure to a person.

There’s a school of thought that says “rights” begins when you can assert them. Another say when you can fight for them. Others say at conception, when a human becomes viable outside the womb, or at birth.

I’m a fat old white guy injineer; not a doctor or an ethicist.  And I’ve never stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.  But I’ll go out on a limb and say, in the absence of some consensus otherwise, the Gooferment, at all levels, should focus on more pressing problems.  The debt, the deficit, and such come to mind!

LIBERTARIAN: No one should be forced to take the jab!

Data Reveal the Truth About COVID Countermeasures
Analysis by Dr. Joseph Mercola August 08, 2021

*** begin quote ***

STORY AT-A-GLANCE

  • Data from Israel, where the vast majority of the population has been injected with the Pfizer mRNA concoction, show those “vaccinated” against COVID-19 and unvaccinated have the same infection rate, regardless of age. Empirical data from other countries also reveal the injections have no effect on transmission
  • Ivor Cummins suspects the obsession with COVID-19 injections has to do with profiteering and with justifying vaccine passports. The enormous emphasis on getting nearly everyone the COVID injection may also be related to elimination of the control group, which will effectively hide the real damage the injection is doing
  • Moderna and Pfizer have eliminated the original control groups by giving controls the real injection. This was done even though the trials are officially ongoing for another two years. So, there are no official control groups against which to assess the effectiveness and safety of these injections
  • Side effects of the COVID shots are vastly under-reported, so it’s very difficult to get a grasp on the real-world magnitude of the risks. According to a CDC whistleblower, the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) under-reports deaths by a factor of five or more
  • In sworn testimony, the whistleblower claims 45,000 Americans had died within three days of their COVID shots as of July 9, 2021. The numbers get even higher when looking at deaths occurring within a week or two of the injections

Any wonder why the politicians and bureaucrats are pushing the vax?

AND, no “official control group”?

Next come the vax passports and “where are your papers?!!”.

LIBERTARIAN: National Popular Vote Compact is a step in the anti-freedom journey towards mob rule

National Popular Vote Compact Would Disenfranchise Smaller and Rural States
Ann Bollin / June 22, 2021′

*** begin quote ***

With the 2020 presidential election in the rearview mirror, a brazen effort is underway in several states to circumvent the Constitution and fundamentally alter the role of the Electoral College in future presidential elections.

If adopted by enough states and not challenged in court, this unconstitutional effort would potentially disenfranchise the voters of several states by ignoring those states’ choice for president and instead defer to the votes of nonresidents to decide how electoral votes would be cast.

That would have a devastating effect on how Americans select their president.

The ploy is known as the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. The compact’s enabling legislation bypasses America’s most fundamental body of law—the U.S. Constitution, specifically Article II, Section I—and nullifies the Electoral College, which guarantees each state a minimum number of electoral votes to ensure that small and rural states are represented.

*** end quote ***

(1) Unconstitutional?

(2) Dumb for little states not to litigate NOW?

(3) Federalizes all issues and makes the US of A a unitary state like France!

(4) Ensures the 51% can tyrannize the 49?

Celebrate Independence Day before this takes away our freedom forever and introduces “democracy” AKA mob rule.

As a fat old white guy injineer, it amazed me that this Rube Goldberg contraption worked.

The movie teaches a few lessons:

  • God helps them who help themselves
  • The Gooferment, any gooferment, is not your friend and ain’t going to help us little guys.  And may even hurt us!
  • Humans are amazing animals at finding away out of adversity
  • You have to save yourself; there’s no Prince Charming or White Knight coming to your rescue.  All you have are your God-given abilities.

LIBERTARIAN: Satisfying others for “certificates of appreciation” AKA “GREED” is good

Sunday, June 13, 2021

Heritage Foundation (Yes, “Boooo”) is adopting the Tom Woods’ patented “free ebook for your email” strategy with “9 Ways Socialism Will Morally Bankrupt America”. Liked the proverbial “stopped clock” that’s right twice a day, the did a good job nailing the problems with “socialism”. If I had a critique it would be that it didn’t defend “Greed is Good” (because it motivates humans to cooperate regardless of other factors). I like the metaphor that “money” is just “certificates of appreciation” from our fellow human beings whom we have satisfied. We need “greedy rich people”, as long as they don’t get their “certificates” by force or fraud that they commit or the Gooferment commits for them. Seems so simple.

LIBERTARIAN: “DUI” by numbers is just wrong!

FROM QUORA

Have you ever seen someone ruin their life in just a few seconds? How did they do it?

Told to me by a policeman friend. Young lady lawyer, just graduated from a top law school, joined a prestigious law firm in Philadelphia. First Friday on the job, went to happy hour with her colleagues, had only 2 drinks, drove home carefully. Bad luck. An elderly lady got confused, drifted on the wrong side of the road, head-on collision. Lawyer was fine, but other lady was injured pretty badly. Police showed up (including my friend) at the scene. He said that lady lawyer had no idea her life was over (he knew) until asked to take a breathalyzer test. He had never seen anyone go that fast from calm and taking care of the other lady, to completely terrified (“including times I had to pull my weapon on someone”). Yes, turns out that she was marginally over the legal limit. Got a tough judge. Felony DUI, jail time (may have been suspended on appeal), but no longer practicing law. Not really the “few seconds” but the decision to drive after a few drinks ended her entire professional life that she had worked so hard for— this was pre-Uber,

Now a story I tell my kids and other kids often. Take an Uber / Taxi. Even if you are “in control” it simply isn’t worth the risk (another driver may do something very stupid, and you get blamed automatically.)

Addition: Thanks for the comments. Several people have suggested that a first offense with low BAC would result in a mere slap on the wrist without life-changing consequences (a few heated comments including someone who called me a liar, because any judge doing this “would be impeached” and subsequently deleted the comment). Two caveats, I am not a lawyer, and yes, this is second hand. But, what I believe these folks are missing is that this was a DUI WITH serious injury. I believe that elevates the charge from a typical “general impairment DUI” (which usually has no jail time) to a felony DUI (more severe penalties including state prison) — and not sure how much wiggle room DA/judge had. And refusing to take a chemical test, won’t reduce that charge if an injury was involved.

Clearly as a little L libertarian, I disagree with the Gooferment “justice system” on DUIs.

Just as obvious to me is that, if you do “damage” while driving, then you have to be held accountable to the fullest extent.

If there is no damage, then there is no “violation”.  Roadside checkpoints are just a flat out violation of the Fourth Amendment. It’s transparently clear, that there has to be a proportion in this particular “one-size-fits-all” Gooferment “solution”!

Argh!

LIBERTARIAN: How about getting the States to collect “federal” taxes?

Push comes to shove—what about taxes?

Technically, most federal taxes and fees are collected directly by the federal government, most notoriously IRS “withholding”.  But what if states decided to temporarily intervene? Hypothetically, could they—again using 9th and 10th Amendment arguments—ask employers in their states, who are forced to withhold, to temporarily place those revenues in a dedicated escrow account, “withholding the withholdings “, as it were, until certain reforms—like election reforms—are passed and implemented? We could find out.

*** end quote ***

Libertarians are always looking for ways to put “logs” in the Federal Gooferment’s way.

Here’s a good one.

All federal taxes collected in a State should be collected by the State Gooferment and forwarded to the Federal Gooferment!

The value is NO NEED FOR THE IRS.

Most States have a similar income tax system that piggy backs on the Federal Gooferment system. Time to switch places.

Those States that don’t have an income tax can figure out how they would like to fund, or not, the Federal Gooferment!

No need for Federal programs that send money to the States either.

Jim Bovard: The Feds Are Coming For Libertarians
BY TYLER DURDEN

Libertarians are in the federal crosshairs. Six or seven years ago, there was a lot of prattle about how “the libertarian moment has arrived.” I always knew that was hokum. Since then, there has been a huge increase in hostility to libertarians in Washington DC and elsewhere around the country.

LIBERTARIAN: One good form of “term limit”

Sunday, April 18, 2021

https://ncc-1776.org/tle2021/tle1109-20210418-02.html

*** begin quote ***

Fifth, the harshest possible term limits must be imposed. One term and you can’t run for any other office afterward. I used to have reservations about this, but they can’t all be Ron Paul. In fact, none of them can be Ron Paul. Government service was never intended to be a career and the fact that evil, despicable people (you know who they are) openly grow obscenely rich in public office is at least half of what’s wrong with this country. Read the Roman fable of Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus, to see what degree of patriotic leadership, service to the greater good, civic virtue, humility, and modesty every politician ought to be compelled to exhibit.

*** end quote ***

That’s a term Limit that I can understand and support.
