GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Pentagon Warns They Aren't Set Up to Fight Coronavirus – News From Antiwar.com

Thursday, March 19, 2020

With many politicians long seeing the military as an all-purpose problem solver with a bottomless budget, it is unsurprising that the outbreak of coronavirus has many, particularly high-ranking Democrats, angling for a declaration of war and an outright militarization of the domestic issue.

“I would call out the military now,” Democratic presidential front-runner Joe Biden said on Sunday. He said it’s an emergency and the US needs to treat it like a war. He suggested that the military could provide a “surge” for US hospitals, building more beds and tents that are secure. “We’re at war with the virus,” Biden added.

It seems to be ludicrous to expect the military (mission = kill people and destroy things) to be able to do humanitarian tasks.

They maybe able to do some tasks (i.e., deploy a MASH unit; bury bodies in a mass grave; physically secure a perimeter — people may get shot), but that is NOT their area of expertise or operation.  Not that they wouldn’t want to help.  They are just not trained for that.

It seems that politicians and bureaucrats are delusional to thing that you can “drive screws with a hammer or pound nails with a screwdriver”.  But that shouldn’t surprise anyone.

In a moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing to do, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Why, Oh Why, Is Daylight Savings Time Still a Thing? | The Mary Sue

Sunday, March 8, 2020

Marco Rubio of all people has proposed a bill to make DST permanent and “lock the clock,” but as with most things in Congress, it’s stalled. But it shouldn’t be. Making DST permanent might be one of the few things both sides of the aisle can agree on, so here’s hoping that the bill gets more attention and movement as we go back to daylight savings time this weekend. Hopefully, we won’t have to fall back again.

I don’t understand why we don’t just use GMT all the time everywhere.  It would simplify everything everywhere.

Now there will be some “adaption” to different labels (i.e., “9 to 5” may become “14 to 20”) but who cares.

The military has been using ZULU for forever.

Separate the Gooferment from the Clock.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: New FAA drone rule is a giant middle finger to aviation hobbyists | Ars Technica

Sunday, March 1, 2020

In many cases, it may not even be possible for people to upgrade their existing aircraft to the new standard. The FAA rule states that a compliant drone needs to have a serial number that was issued by the device’s manufacturer in compliance with the new rules. Yet many RC aircraft are built by small companies who never intended to get into the commercial drone business. They might not have the technical resources to comply with the new standards or the legal resources to get FAA approval.

Sorry, but Gooferment is stupid too.

And, intrusive and overreaching.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Gopher: When Adversarial Interoperability Burrowed Under the Gatekeepers’ Fortresses

Monday, February 24, 2020

When Apple’s App Store launched in 2008, it was widely hailed as a breakthrough in computing, a “curated experience” that would transform the chaos of locating and assessing software and replace it with a reliable one-stop-shop where every app would come pre-tested and with a trusted seal of approval.

*** and ***

Legislation to stem the tide of Big Tech companies’ abuses, and laws—such as a national consumer privacy bill, an interoperability bill, or a bill making firms liable for data-breaches—would go a long way toward improving the lives of the Internet users held hostage inside the companies’ walled gardens.

But far more important than fixing Big Tech is fixing the Internet: restoring the kind of dynamism that made tech firms responsive to their users for fear of losing them, restoring the dynamic that let tinkerers, co-ops, and nonprofits give every person the power of technological self-determination.

Since the Gooferment has stuck its “camel like” nose into the tent, it screwed up the emerging internet with invisible legal lines.

Until the politicians and bureaucrats fix their “mistake”, innovation will be controlled by Big Tech.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Did coronavirus originate in Chinese government laboratory? | Daily Mail Online

Thursday, February 20, 2020

The report says: ‘Genome sequences from patients were 96% or 89% identical to the Bat CoV ZC45 coronavirus originally found in Rhinolophus affinis (intermediate horseshoe bat).’

Certainly seems plausible.  One wonders what their Gooferment politicians and bureaucrats were thinking.  And, where are our politicians and bureaucrats in all of this?

Seems like the CDC is demonstrating its uselessness!

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Government agents seized $181,500 in cash at airport and won’t give it back | FOX 5 New York

Friday, February 14, 2020

The lawsuit says an agent gave Nulman a receipt to document the $181,500, but the federal agencies now say only $159,950 was confiscated. That’s $21,550 less than what the company says was seized.

I don’t understand how that this type activity is allowed to continue.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Photojournalist taken into NYPD custody while filming Manhattan arrest – New York Daily News

A news photographer filming an arrest in Chinatown was busted himself Tuesday night after police alleged he refused to step back.

No secret that the police don’t like to be filmed.  “He said; he said” is much easier when there is no video.  “We, The Sheeple” need video to be convinced.

It’s a shame that the politicians and bureaucrats can’t be trusted.  EVER!

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Pepuls Republik of Kaliforkneeah is collective insanity

California’s Prop 47 leads to rise in shoplifting, thefts, criminal activity across state
By Barnini Chakraborty | Fox News

*** begin quote ***

California is one of a handful of states that doesn’t hand out plastic shopping bags. To get one, the purchaser has to pay an additional dime. Residents looking to save ten cents and spare the environment typically put merchandise in a purse, backpack or have it in their hand when they walk out, an unintended consequence of which is shoplifters can easily “fit in and walk out” with the paying crowd.

“It’s nuts,” Michelin said. “Stores are going to be forced to lock up all their merchandise.”

This seems to be the opposite of NYC’s (Bratton’s?) quality of life crackdown to decrease crime?

Insane!

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: I said … make the FDA an advisory body

Tuesday, September 17, 2019

2019-Sep-17

September 17, 2019

Dear Mr. Reinke,

Thank you for contacting my office regarding prescription drug prices. As your representative in Congress, it is important that I hear your opinions and concerns. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with me, and I am pleased to respond to you on this matter.

I strongly believe in making prescription drugs more affordable. Americans pay the highest prescription drug prices in the world, on average three times more for generic drugs than in other similar countries. Vital medication, such as Insulin, costs thousands of dollars a year forcing many Americans to choose between their medication and groceries. I fear that prescription drug prices will continue to be an undue burden for many Americans unless Congress takes action.

I am determined to take action and fight for answers regarding lower prescription drug prices. On March 8th, 2019, I introduced H.R. 1643, the PrEP Assistance Program Act, which establishes a federal program that provides grants for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medication. This bill serves as an example for how Congress can make life-saving medication affordable and accessible to all Americans. In addition, I am proud to cosponsor H.R. 1868, the Health Care Affordability Act of 2019, which amends the tax code to improve affordability and reduce your premium costs.

You may be interested to know more about the steps that my colleagues in Congress and I are taking to address high prescription drug prices. On May 16th, 2019, I voted for H.R. 987, the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act, which passed by a vote of 234-183. This bill would ban stalling tactics and pay-for-delay practices by brand name pharmaceutical companies that limit your access to cheap generic drugs. This bill would also establish health insurance exchanges that ensure you will have access to more information about the benefits you are entitled to under your health plan.

In the 116th Congress, we have the opportunity to pass legislation in the House that will benefit our country, so I encourage you to continue to express your concerns and opinions with me and my office. I value your input and participation in our democratic process. You can learn more about my activities in Congress by visiting my website at http://www.watsoncoleman.house.gov, contacting my office at 202-225-5801, and following me on social media. Again, thank you for expressing your thoughts to me.
Sincerely,

Bonnie Watson Coleman

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Why can’t I give my blood pressure medicine to someone in need?

Monday, August 12, 2019

Recently, the doc changed my from OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL to amLODIOine.

There’s nothing wrong both are for High Blood Pressure.

So, I have about ⅔ of a ninety day supply that I can not use.

What can I do with it?

So, being fat old white guy injineer, I said there must be some poor person out there who needs the drug and can’t afford it.  I’ll just give it to them.

Doc says he can’t do that.  My pharmacist friend says that’s illegal.

But I can put it in the local medical disposal dropbox for safe destruction.

Argh!

Anyone see a problem here?

And everyone wonders why drugs are so expensive?

It’s not like anyone can get high on it?

Quite the opposite, someone can lower their BP and pee a lot.

But Big Gooferment and Big Pharma won’t get a cut of that donation so it must be destroyed!

Argh!
