Sure, blame it on “the residents”!  Argh!

I’d like to go line by line through that budget and see all the stuff that was NOT “too expensive”.

How about the cost of the “rescue and recovery”?  What do you think the parents of those children would think about “too expensive”.  Bet the Insurance Companies aren’t happy with that trade off either.

No consideration of “User Fees” or “Special Project Zone”.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., has unveiled a new set of bills that aims to make society safer for children by giving child sexual predators the death penalty.

Two of her three bills, would require sentences of death or at least life imprisonment for those charged with sexual crimes against children.

She suggested that the death penalty aspect may have put some people off of an issue that otherwise could get wide bipartisan support.

However, she argued that pedophiles “cannot be rehabilitated.”

“If you are going to continue to push forward in a moral society, [then] you need to ensure that people like this, that are predators, are taken off the streets permanently,” Luna said.

First off, this is NOT a Federal issue.  Each state is perfectly able to address this issue.  Hence, this is the wrong level of Gooferment to legislate on.

Second, I do think that the Federal Gooferment could “underwrite” the cost of prisons on the theory that criminals can migrate.  But it should not “operate” prisons.  That’s the individual State’s responsibility.  One treason and counterfeiting are Consitutionally “federal” crimes.

Third, once the Gooferment is allowed to kill, who know where it will stop.  Political opponents, ethnic groups, and minorities of all manner could be its victims.  White people could be the next minority picked upon.

So a State should only be allowed to have the death penalty when a convict is too dangerous to keep around.  When a convict kills a guard, then and only then is the death penalty permitted in my moral scheme.

For pedophiles, may we need a Devil’s Island somewhere in the middle of a dessert or frozen tundra.  But that is a different discussion,

If I was a hunch and had to use that as an excuse, then she should fall on her sword and resign so that someone more competent can protect the citizens.

Along with everyone in the chain of command who didn’t take the initiative and deploy them.

WAXAHACHIE, Texas (AP) — A Texas man being held in jail fatally assaulted a detention officer who was returning him to his cell following the one hour he was allowed out of his lockup each day, a sheriff said Tuesday.

Isaiah Patrick Bias, a 28-year-old who worked at the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office for over six years, was assaulted Monday afternoon at the county jail in Waxahachie, south of Dallas.

Sheriff Brad Norman said during a Tuesday news conference that Arron Semeion Thompson, 45, from nearby Ennis, has been charged with capital murder in Bias’ death.

Officials said Thompson has been in jail since last month on charges of assaulting a public servant, public intoxication and evading arrest.

Thompson’s bond in Bias’ death was set at $2 million. Jail records did not list an attorney for him.

Norman said the Texas Rangers will investigate.

As a little L libertarian, I don’t think we should ever permit the Gooferment from using the “death penalty”.  If we do, then political opponents are at risk from their adversaries.

The one exception that I make  —  every good rule has exceptions  —  is when the convict is too dangerous for the people we ask to guard them.  This appears to be such a case.

As a species, we need to have firm rules of acceptable behavior.  For our own survival, this should be one of them.  “Kill a correction officer and forfeit your ‘right to life’.”  Simple self-preservation.

Commentary 

If guilty, Luigi Mangione deserves to spend the rest of his days in prison. Anyone who purposely takes a human life should never walk free again. Independent of the need for justice, such a man poses too much of a public safety threat to ever return to America’s streets.

The accused CEO killer is not a heroic figure. He is a villain. That will remain true no matter how many Nintendo-costume-donning protestors rally in his defense. As we wrote last week, “He is smug, lazy, and ultimately, a groveling coward.” With that being said, the government’s apparent aim to have him sentenced to death is a disturbing and destructive objective.

In addition to being nonsensical and hypocritical, the idea that we must kill killers to prove that killing is wrong is emblematic of modern American leadership’s tragic disregard for the sanctity of human life. We see this in foreign, immigration, and domestic policy.

Permanent Washington has spent the past three years fervently funding the war in Eastern Europe, cheering on the slaughter of an entire generation of Ukrainian men. Fentanyl overdoses kill tens of thousands of Americans each year, but the government actively works to make it easier for people to smuggle those deadly drugs across the Southern border. And since the turn of the century, the left has transformed its abortion rhetoric from describing the deadly procedure as “safe and rare” to telling women to “shout your abortion.”

It’s not clear what’s behind this shift, but it’s remodeling America away from its religious roots and instead in the image of a frightening death cult. We must reverse course.

Abolishing capital punishment would be a logical first step. No matter what heinous acts a person may commit, they are still human. And judging them is up to God, not their fellow man.

Sorry but until we can undo a “death sentence” “We, The Sheeple” should NEVER permit the Gooferment to kill.  Humans make mistakes; it’s inevitable.  Thus, “innocence” should always be grounds for an appeal.  I don’t care about the “rules of procedure”.  If one can advance evidence of innocence, then that should always DEMAND a judicial review.

As I have blogged before, the only reason for the Gooferment to be permitted to kill a human is if that human is too dangerous to exist (i.e., a convicted murdered kills a guard).  I like the French’s Devil’s Island.  Surely we have some vacant land out in the wilderness for a version of this?

The Gooferment should never be permitted to kill for any reason. 

I can make a small carve out for those humans that are just too dangerous to keep prison.  For example, there should be a Devil’s Island where murders, who attack guards, can be kept and never leave. 

The problem with the death penalty is that there is no “undo” function and mistakes happen.  Whatever the reason  — an “honest” mistake or some sort of discrimination  — a mistake can be corrected.  But not if the mistake is deadly.

This issue is of top concern to millions of Americans who have suffered the loss of a loved one to this deadly drug, largely imported from Mexico. How will these candidates measure up for this demographic in November?

As Americans weigh the respective offerings of the 2024 party platforms, differing prescriptions for abortion, economic growth, foreign policy, and border security vie for favoritism among voters. The irreversible, life-changing trauma of losing a child, parent, or sibling to pernicious fentanyl or other opioids is, for many, an issue of the highest priority – cutting across party loyalties and hardly confined to undecided independents.

As a little L libertarian, and having lost a family member to drugs and raising a child injured by per-natal drug use, I think and believe that the the Gooferment must admit it is powerless to “solve” the problem. “They” can’t keep drugs out of prison so how do they expect to do it in a free society? My “solution” is to let the free market operate. Walmart, Walgreens, and Amazon will make the “illegal drugs” clean, safe, and cheap. Then, we can focus all the wealth wasted of “prohibition” on making resources available to those who want to get “clean”. Will people still die from “drugs”? Absolutely! But they won’t be “accidental” from fentanyl in their heroin. Sorry to be the bearer of “bad news”, but it’s completely out of our control what free people can put in their own bodies. Let’s make addiction as “safe” as possible.

In May 2023, the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center received several anonymous tips about the threats to commit a school shooting — with the harrowing remarks including photos of guns, according to a Wednesday night statement from the bureau’s Atlanta division.

Sorry, but what was anyone thinking?  The FBI should have spark a local investigation.  Surely, any judge in the right mine would have authorize a search of the residence for evidence of a threat.

Argh!

The parents should be in trouble for “failure to secure” the guns.

If I had a troubled child, then I’d have pulled the firing pins and kept them in my pocket.

Instead of “bang bang”, there would have been “click click”. 

Argh!

Once again the Gooferment fails to protect “We, The Sheeple”.

Entire books have been written about the test, so I’ll just touch on one key issue here briefly. It’s related to a hallmark of the age that would follow: a new government obsession with secrecy, which soon spread from the nuclear program to all military and foreign affairs in the cold war era.

In completing their work on building the bomb, Manhattan Project scientists knew it would produce deadly radiation but weren’t sure exactly how much. The military planners were mainly concerned about the bomber pilots catching a dose, but J. Robert Oppenheimer, “The Father of the Bomb,” worried, with good cause (as it turned out) that the radiation could drift a few miles and also fall to earth with the rain.

Indeed, scientists warned of danger to those living downwind from the Trinity site but, in a pattern-setting decision, the military boss, General Leslie Groves, ruled that residents not be evacuated and kept completely in the dark (at least until they spotted a blast brighter than any sun). Nothing was to interfere with the test. When two physicians on Oppenheimer’s staff (though not Oppie himself) proposed an evacuation, Groves replied, “What are you, Hearst propagandists?”

Admiral Williams Leahy, President Truman’s chief of staff – who opposed dropping the bomb on Japan – placed the bomb in the same category as “poison gas.” And, sure enough, soon after the shot went off before dawn on July 16, scientists monitored some alarming evidence. Radiation was quickly settling to earth in a band thirty miles wide by 100 miles long. A paralyzed mule was discovered twenty-five miles from ground zero.
