Will children at center of college admissions scandal pay a price along with their parents? – Los Angeles Times

Thursday, March 14, 2019

A USC spokesman said Wednesday that students who applied for admission in the current cycle — which is underway for fall admits — and are tied to the scheme will be denied admission. That includes about half a dozen applicants. The school will also conduct a case-by-case review for current students and graduates who may have taken part in the scheme.

“Children”?

While one or more individuals maybe be “innocent bystanders” in their parents’ actions, others were involved.  I don’t think that “innocent bystanders” should be penalized until them demonstrate that they can’t or won’t meet the standards. Those involved deserve anything they get.  Graduates are probably “untouchable”.

What a mess.

Commentary: Ask your health care provider for the cash price | Nvdaily | nvdaily.com

Thursday, March 14, 2019

A friend shared a story he heard recently, over eggs and toast at a local eatery. A citizen needed an MRI. He asked the price, and the regional hospital quoted him $1,500. He looked concerned, mentioned that was expensive, and the provider offered that the cash price was $500. Curiously, that $500 is exactly what his insurance plan would have him pay. For a lot of people, this looks like a wash.

Scientists have built world’s first ‘time machine’ in experiment which defies the laws of physics

I’m sure pool players all over the world are waiting for a chance to do a shot over.

Imagine being able to press a “do over” button?

If one could imagine it, how far back would you have to go?

Could one start completely over?

And, if such was possible, what give you any confidence that you could avoid your past “mistakes”?

And what if your current outcome was the “best” of all your possible choices, could you recover back?

A troubling thought experiment fraught with problems.

Like in my youth, I once left the Engineering Building, turned left on Broadway, and walked to the subway at 242nd street with my friends to have a beer at the Pinewood. So instead of studying, I had a hangover.  To avoid that “mistake”, I decide now in retrospect to turn right to go to the 231st subway station and, when crossing the street, I’m killed by bus.

See what I mean, if we consider “time travel”, we don’t get to see what’s down the road when we take any particular fork in the road.

Hmmm!

Vaccines Continue To Injure and Kill People – LewRockwell

If you or a family member is injured or dies from vaccines, you must sue the federal government and go up against their attorneys in this special vaccine court. Many cases are litigated for years before a settlement is reached, as can be seen from the report below. One flu shot victim litigated for 7 years before reaching a settlement, and one Gardasil HPV vaccine victim litigated for over 5 years before reaching a settlement, for example.Another Gardasil HPV vaccine victim who suffered cardiac arrest and death, took over 3 years to settle.

American Pravda: Amazon Book Censorship, by Ron Unz – The Unz Review

GOVERNACIDE: Chernobyl: The secrets they tried to bury – how the Soviet machine covered up a catastrophe

Saturday, March 9, 2019

In that way, the factory management kept health problems under wraps. They certified in a report to Kiev, which the factory’s chief engineer Maria Nogina signed, that the factory staff had no illnesses in connection with radioactivity. Nor, they wrote, had any workers suffered from any occupational health problems in the previous four years. Union records flatly contradict this statement; from 1987 to 1989, union representatives grew anxious about the ‘worrisome’ increase of illness at the factory. In regional farms, doctors reported a peculiar ‘guttural swelling’ among shepherds. Thirty years later, the women sorters and Nogina fingered their throats and described to me problems with thyroid disease, adult-onset diabetes and cancer. They mentioned other symptoms that sounded strange – aching joints and ‘legs that don’t go’, migraines, fainting spells and painfully twinging nerves. They attributed these unspecific health problems to Chernobyl. I was at a loss with what to do with these associations. Maybe, as critics would charge in the debates over Chernobyl health effects, the wool workers attributed normal symptoms of ageing to radiation. On the other hand, the sorters knew more about radiation than the average person. They grasped that some radioactive isotopes, such as ruthenium-106, settle in bone marrow, whereas others, like caesium-137, target muscle tissues, and radioactive iodine-131 gathers in the thyroid. They visualised the isotopes in their bones, joints and crumbling teeth. These women with no more than high-school education described to me how radioactive wastewater draining from the plant’s giant washing machines poured into a pond, and from there it was recycled into the municipal water-treatment facility to either return to the factory or float down the soft, brown currents of the Desna River. I corroborated this account of contaminated wastewater in the records. No manager I talked to remembered that detail.

EconomicPolicyJournal.com: The Facts You Need To Know That Will Allow You to Destroy Green New Deal Thinking (It’s DOA!)

Thursday, February 21, 2019

The dominant source of energy for the foreseeable future for both the United States and the world will be fossil fuels, chiefly in the form of oil, natural gas, and coal. Throughout the world, many groups will push hard for massive subsidies to wind and solar energy. Yet, that attempt, no matter how bold, will fail to shift the overall balance of energy production toward green sources. The fatal drawback of wind and solar is their lack of storability. Solar works when the sun shines. Wind works when breezes blow. Both often provide energy when it is not needed and fail to provide it when required. Any legal diktat that puts these renewable sources first will only produce a prolonged economic dislocation. Pie-in-the-sky proposals like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal, which stipulates 100 percent of energy needs be supplied by “clean, renewable, and zero emissions” sources, should be dead on arrival.

Source: EconomicPolicyJournal.com: The Facts You Need To Know That Will Allow You to Destroy Green New Deal Thinking

The “democratic socialists”, who are backing this looney tune idea, should be laughed out of the public arena for their stupidity.  Any that are left should explain the economic misery of Venezuela and the genocides of Communist / Socialist countries.

Yeah, “capitalism” may be the worst economic system for allocating scarce resources but it’s better than all the other ones.

Now if we could just get the Gooferment, politicians, bureaucrats, “celebrities”, and media talking heads out of the way, then imagine the “miracles” we’d see.
