Whistling Past The $70 Trillion Debt Graveyard

Authored by Lance Roberts via RealInvestmentAdvice.com, Market Review & Update Last week, we discussed the setup for a near-term mean reversion because of the massive extension above the long-term mean. To wit: “There is also just the simple issue that markets are very extended above their long-term trends, as shown in the chart below.

Trump Kills the Tea Party – LewRockwell

Friday, July 26, 2019

The Tea Party wave of 2009 and 2010, a Republican movement born in reaction to the budget blowouts of the Obama Presidency, is now officially dead. It’s ironic that as Trump hammered the final nail into the Tea Party’s coffin, no one seemed happier than the corpse itself! There was hardly a word of discomfort from all the Republican Senators and Congressmen who had so loudly railed against debt when the other party occupied the White House. There is simply no legitimate way that Republicans will ever be able to argue again that they are the party of fiscal discipline. They may try, but only the most partisan and credulous voters will buy it.

Citroën Sabotaged Wartime Nazi Truck Production in a Simple and Brilliant Way

Thursday, July 25, 2019

John Reynold’s book Citroën 2CV describes Boulanger’s sabotage efforts. Of course, he instructed workers to set a nice, leisurely pace when building trucks (likely Citroën T45 trucks) for the Wermacht, but that’s fairly obvious. What was brilliant was Boulanger’s idea to move the little notch on the trucks’ oil dipsticks that indicated the proper level of oil down just a bit lower.By moving the notch down, the trucks would not have enough oil, but German mechanics would have no idea, because, hey, the little notch on the dipstick says its just fine. Then, after the truck has been used for a while and is out deployed somewhere crucial, whammo, the engine seizes up, and you’ve got a lot of angry, stranded, vulnerable Nazis, balling up their little fists and redly barking curses in German.

Presidential candidates Gabbard and Harris spar after Gabbard claims Harris is ‘not qualified to serve as President

Wednesday, July 24, 2019

On Tuesday, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, attacked Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) as “not qualified” to serve as president. She claimed that “personal perspective as a soldier” is essential for presidents and she singled out Harris as lacking the necessary “temperament” to lead the country. “I think one of the things I’m most concerned with is, Kamala Harris is not qualified to serve as commander in chief, and I can say this from a personal perspective as a soldier,” Gabbard told Clay Travis on the podcast “Outkick the Coverage.” Gabbard argued that Harris has “got no background or experience in foreign policy, and she lacks the temperament that is necessary for a commander in chief.

I agree.

Once upon a time, before “BJ” Clinton, you couldn’t be elected President without having served in the military.  For better or worse, they at least understand what is at stake.

Perhaps, “We, The Sheeple” should resurrect that rule.

Policy expansion to allow ICE to use ‘expedited deportation’ anywhere in the US

Wednesday, July 24, 2019

The Trump administration has finalized a plan that will allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to rapidly deport illegal aliens by bypassing immigration courts in situations where an illegal alien is unable to prove that they have been present in the United States continuously for at least two years. “The Department of Homeland Security will publish a notice in the Federal Register Tuesday that aims to use the department’s full statutory authority to employ ‘expedited removal’ to a wider range of undocumented immigrants who cross the border illegally,” Politico reported.

Rats infest LA, other CA cities as state restricts poison | The Sacramento Bee

Wednesday, July 24, 2019

The rats were winning.

There were so many earlier this summer outside the CalEPA building in downtown Sacramento officials had to close its outdoor playground out of fear state employees’ kids would catch rodent-borne diseases.

To fight back, building officials set out a controversial type of rat poison whose use may soon be banned statewide by the California Legislature. The poison didn’t stay out very long once word got out the state’s top environmental regulators were using a poison widely condemned by California’s powerful environmental groups.

A Bank With $49 Trillion in Exposure to Derivatives – LewRockwell

Monday, July 22, 2019

We know that Deutsche Bank’s derivative tentacles extend into most of the major Wall Street banks. According to a 2016 reportfrom the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Deutsche Bank is heavily interconnected financially to JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Bank of America as well as other mega banks in Europe. The IMF concluded that Deutsche Bank posed a greater threat to global financial stability than any other bank as a result of these interconnections – and that was when its market capitalization was tens of billions of dollars larger than it is today.

As I said after the last “crisis”, isn’t “too big to fail” really “too big to exist”?

Seems like the corporate tax code could be used effectively to mitigate this risk.  For example, a balance sheet that is bigger than the Federal budget is subject to a 5% excess tax.  And, no one can get a W2 for more than the President gets. How about that executives get 20 year non-transferable non-optionable corporate bonds for their compensation more than the President?  (Guess they’d have to be sure the Firm survives long enough for their bonds to pay off!)

Corporations are creations of the Gooferment and can be treated badly like this.

Oh, and yes, no “campaign contributions”!

Matt Drudge’s ‘Future’ Is Now Realized, And That Has Legacy Media Enraged.

Wednesday, July 17, 2019

But, the rulers of legacy media think that they have a monopoly on truth. They believe they should decide who is a journalist and who is not. Citizen journalists are disdained by the legacy media from places like CNN, NBC, and MSNBC. Thus, the legacy media’s response to the summit has been one of smears and ugly insults, even potentially dangerous doxxing. This is because the legacy media now understands that their influence over the American people is all but dead thanks to the internet.  President Donald J. Trump’s election,  to colloquially put it, whacked the mainstream media upside the head. Now, they are taking vengeance on anybody who supports him.

Source: Matt Drudge’s ‘Future’ Is Now Realized, And That Has Legacy Media Enraged.

# – # – # – # – #

Sorry but he’s correct.  The legacy media is akin to the “walking dead”.  Every time, another member of “We, The Sheeple” turns to the inet for “news”, they take another “cut” as in “death of a thousand cuts”.

If I was the boring old WSJ, I’d figure out how to take “micropayments”; rather than insisting on overpriced long subscription.  Another thing the old new papers are doing is “99¢” teaser rates.

Instead of the WSJ paywall, I’d have WSJ “story vending machine”.  When a non-subscriber comes up to read an article of interest, give them the first paragraph free and offer the rest for a fraction of cent. (That’s why micropayments are critical!) 1¢ = 0.0000010 of a bitcoin. (₿ * (10 ** – 6))

Think of it like a coin-operated newspaper kiosk.

I know I’d use such a technology.

Brent Bozell and Big Media’s War Against Trump – Part One – Liberty Nation

Brent Bozell: Tim, I think at the end of the day, one of two things are going to happen. One is that the media hostility against Trump is going to ultimately give a couple of points to the Democrats, and that could sway the election. On the other hand, the media’s hostility to Trump could ultimately give Trump a couple of points that might sway the election to him. Either way, I think the media are going to decide this election. Now, if you put a gun to my head and said pick one, I would pick that it’s going to help him because the more you listen to them, the more unhinged they are.

How Right-Hand Drive Japanese Imports Took Over Siberia

Saturday, July 13, 2019

Since the early ’90s, millions of right-hand-drive cars from Japan have found their way into Russia, a country that drives on the right side of the road, just like the U.S. and totally opposite from Japan. That is to say, for these cars, they’re going to operate on the wrong side of the road than what they were designed for.The JDM import industry in Russia peaked in 2008, when over 500,000 second-hand vehicles from Japan were imported. Since then, economic and legal factors have dented the trade, which has declined “ten-fold” in recent years. Unsurprisingly, rumors float that the era of right-hand-drive is slowly coming to an end.

Deepfakes Pose Increasing Legal and Ethical Issues for Hollywood | Hollywood Reporter

Saturday, July 13, 2019

“Let’s say [a filmmaker] wanted to do a biographic movie about Heath Ledger, and rather than have an actor play Heath Ledger, they used a digital version,” says Bennett. “We think that would be perfectly fine. Now contrast that example with a [re-created] Heath Ledger becoming the next Captain Jack Sparrow in a Pirates of the Caribbean movie. That wouldn’t be OK. That would threaten actors’ livelihood.”

So it’s not just exploitation. Digital technology also puts jobs at risk.

But, as Bennett acknowledges, if Heath Ledger’s heirs were bequeathed his right of publicity in a will and then licensed it to Disney so a deepfake version of Ledger could play Jack Sparrow, that would be totally fine by law.

In fact, right now, there are only a few A-list actors in Hollywood, and the biggest reason they are not in every film is limitations on their time. But if the technology developments enable them to simply license their name, image and voice and not really spend any time actually on set, wouldn’t that potentially take away jobs? All the roles just might go to Dwayne Johnson and Jennifer Lawrence.
