GOVEROTRAGEOUS: The FDA is an arm of Big Pharma

Do Antidepressant Drugs Really Work?

*** begin quote ***

These revelations hit in 2008—Prozac, Serzone, Paxil, and Effexor—they worked, but so did sugar pills, and the difference between the drug and placebo was small. That was 2008. Where were we by 2014? Analyses of the published data and the unpublished data that were hidden by drug companies reveals that most (if not all) of the benefits of antidepressants are due to the placebo effect.

And what’s even worse, Freedom of Information Act documents show the FDA knew about it but made an explicit decision to keep this information from the public and from prescribing physicians. How could drug companies get away with this?

*** end quote ***

And, I have the tin foil hat when I say that the Gooferment is immoral, ineffective, and inefficient?

Why can’t we shut down the FDA?

Make Big Pharma defend themselves in the free market. Underwriters’ Laboratory, Consumers Union, and a bunch of other free market institutions will keep us safer than the FDA has ever done.

And, look at the side effects.

  1. “How could drug companies get away with this?”

GollyGeeWhillikersGumdrops Batman! I thought only Big Tobacco did stuff like this! What’s most interesting in this news is that all we’re seeing is the “tip of the iceberg.” Big Tobacco had 23 million pages of documents that it declared privileged if I’m remembering rightly, and the “Insider” blew the lid off them by stealing them and giving them to the Antismokers out at U of California to distribute on the Internet… thereby making them “public domain” or somesuch by default and handing the government the RICO key to get the rest.

Think we can spring RICO on Big Pharma? Maybe sue them for $250 Billion and force them to pass the lawsuit costs straight on to their consumers the way we did with Big Tobacco? Heck, we could even make stuff up… maybe pretending that they were trying to market Ritalin and Adderall etc etc to children just so they could hook ’em into the Pharma system while they were young! Of course they would NEVVVVVERRR do anything like that… would they?
