Brighton Kemptown MP Des Turner has called for hard drugs to be legalised.
The Labour MP spoke out after an investigation by The Argus lifted the lid on street dealing in Brighton and Hove.
Reporter Andy Whelan bought heroin from a man in one of Hove’s main shopping streets. And it took him just 26 minutes to obtain the drug.
Dr Turner’s comments come after details of yet another young victim of the city’s heroin trade were revealed.
An inquest into the death of Tania Meires heard that heroin in Brighton was so pure that injecting it was like “playing Russian roulette every time”.

I’m against drug addiction. But, it’s a MEDICAL problem.
Passing laws against it is as effective as passing a law repealing gravity.
How stupid are we?
How many children must die? How many lives ruined? How many unintended consequences have to be endured?
Laws don’t change behaviors. They just raise and shift the costs!
We, in effect, have a random death sentence for drug experimentation.

I have often advocated that the insurance companies would be best suited, with the most self-interest, in registering cars and drivers. They do my annual policy renewal quickly and easily for ‘free’.
How much could it cost to have them make some tin advertising for the front and back of every car?
Certainly not our freedoms!
Remember after papers, came death camps in Germany and Russia.

McBookaire: Serial numbers
Sunday, April 6, 2008So far, I’m pleased with ‘being Martha’ (i.e., maing an extragent purchase like the McBookAir. It’s totally quiet. No heat. And, appears to run for hours between charges. Although a recharge seem to take longer than I expected. Like sipping thru a narrow straw? Keyboard is excellent. Except it’s no WIndows or XPS lay out. I’ll have to get used to it. I’ve got mail and wp working, no sweat. But I have hit my first gripe.
Serial numbers!
Come on guys could you possibly make them longer or in a smaller font?
I’d have preferred that you allow them to be automagic.
The experiment continues!

What does a Project Manager DO?
Project Managers are a fortunate lot, for, as everyone knows, a project manager has nothing to do; that is, except…
To decide what is to be done;
to tell somebody to do it;
to listen to reasons why it should not be done,
why it should be done by somebody else,
or why it should be done in a different way;
and to prepare arguments in rebuttal that shall be convincing and conclusive.
And then:
To follow up to see if the thing has been done;
to discover that it has not been done;
to enquire why it has not been done;
to listen to excuses from the person who did not do it;
and to think up arguments to overcome the excuses.
And then:
To follow up a second time to see if the thing has been done;
to discover that is has been done incorrectly;
to point out how it shall be done;
to conclude that as long as it has been done it might as well be left as it is;
to wonder if it is not time to get rid of the person who cannot do a thing correctly;
to reflect that in all probability any successor would be just as bad, or worse.
And finally:
To consider how much more simply and better the thing would have been done had he done it himself in the first place;
to reflect satisfactorily that if he had done it himself he would have been able to do it right in 20 minutes and that as things turned out, he himself spent two days trying to find out why it is that it has taken somebody else three weeks to do it wrong.
To realise that such an idea would have a very demoralising effect on the project team, because it would strike at the very foundation of the belief of all employees that a project manager has nothing to do.

PRODUCTIVITY: Lessons Learned from spinning plates

If one learns anything from my time trying to keep all the plates spinning, the key lesson is “no!”. Firmly, gently, honestly applied. “No, I have no more … not bananas, but time today”. On the first of each month, I’m going to ruthlessly prune all the task that I have taken on with an eye to eliminating them.
