In election 2008, don’t forget Angry White Man

The Angry White Man owns firearms, and he’s willing to pick up a gun to defend his home and his country. He is willing to lay down his life to defend the freedom and safety of others, and the thought of killing someone who needs killing really doesn’t bother him.

To which I responded:

Nope. I don’t play golf. And, you’re not a “gun nut”.

Other than golf and calling turkeys, I’m pretty close.

I’m loving this new 12 minute interview of Tony Robbins on The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos.

Some highlights; around 3:40 minutes into the video he talks about how depression happens when our life doesn’t match up to the expectations of what we think it should be.

Interesting. A few gems to take away!

POLITICAL: Lessig May Run

Lessig May Run

*** begin quote ***

Erick reported February 15 that a Facebook group was trying to draft Stanford Law professor and free culture champion Lawrence Lessig to run for Congress. It took 5 days but they may get their way with Lessig announcing Lessig ‘08, a site that will host an introduction to his “Change Congress Movement,” (video above) as well as his yet to be announced decision as to whether he’ll run or not.

*** end quote ***

Well, you couldn’t do any worse then the “professional congresscritters”. I’m not sure that I agree with your “progressive” label. I’d call your attention to Jim Babka’s DOWNSIZEDC DOT ORG and Carla Howell’s SMALLGOVERNMENT DOT ORG as examples of trying to make a difference. I certainly support anyone trying to change the system. You might even be a little L libertarian in disguise.

One detail I know I disagree with you on is the “public financing of campaigns”. I would suggest that a better answer would be that a candidate can ONLY raise money directly from voters in their district. It would be a measure of their support. Taxes are basically theft. Public campaign and election financing from those stolen funds is wrong. If voters voluntarily give you money in support of your campaign that makes it untainted.

imho, go for it.

RANT: man’s 19th drunken driving conviction

Man gets 8 years for 19 DUIs
Judge lectures driver; suspends license forever
BY JANICE MORSE | JMORSE@ENQUIRER.COM

*** begin quote ***

HAMILTON – A Hamilton man’s 19th drunken driving conviction earned him eight years in prison and a lecture about his 30-year record, which ranks him among Ohio’s six worst drunken drivers.

“You knew a long time ago that you had a problem with drinking and driving and you’ve never chosen to do anything,” Judge Noah Powers told Stephen W. Wolf in Butler County Common Pleas Court during sentencing Tuesday.

Wolf faced up to 10 years in prison as a result of a hit-and-run crash in Fairfield Township last summer.

*** end quote ***

My only two questions are: (A) why didn’t he get the ten year max? and (B) Nineteen convictions? What a joke.

I’ll be asking my statecritters how bad the problem is here. Ohio might have two with 20, but I’m sure NuJerzee, the home of many bleeding heart liberals, must have more.

Argh!

I’d say one conviction is a mistake as long as no one is hurt. More than that is unacceptable. Multiple convictions, or conviction with an injury resulting, deserves the full Monte.

The “state”, meaning gooferment in general, has really only one purpose Constitutionally and that is to protect individual rights. If it can’t do that, then it has lost its reason for existence.

I’ve seen formulations that say we don’t have a “drinking and driving” problem, but we do have a problem with repeat offenders. So, let’s strike at the root.

FUN: forward this to at least X number of people in the next Y minutes

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

FROM LUDDITE’S WIFE (who is one of those people who forwards funny stuff along, but not the rumor of the day)

*** begin quote ***

For those of you who are sick of getting emails that tell you to forward it to at least X number of people in the next 15 minutes so that wonderful things and miracles will happen if you do, or there will be serious consequences if you don’t,then you will enjoy this.

This is hilarious! (and it’s ABOUT TIME someone did this!)

AND, absolutely true. EXCEPT they did leave out all the emails offering to make something bigger, longer, or grow faster!

Why Computers Work and Health Care Doesn’t
by Bill Walker

*** begin quote ***

Computers work. We complain about them, but that’s because most of the time they work so fast that we don’t even notice them in the background. And they get cheaper by the second. They get cheaper so fast that we can see the prices of memory and processor speed falling even without adjusting for inflation.

Health care, on the other hand, gets more expensive all the time, even for techniques that were invented decades ago. Computers get twice as fast every two years, but technology for carbon-based organisms improves at a snail’s pace. Why? Biology isn’t all that complex. After all, our cells only have the equivalent of about 2.8 gigabytes of (very slow) DNA memory storage. The viruses that kill us often get by with 12 kilobytes. Your cellphone has more memory than most pathogens, and cellphone design mutates more over the course of a year than the flu.

A Thought Experiment: The Federal Data Administration

{And it gets funnier after that!}

*** end quote ***

Priceless and self-evident.

MONEY: There’s a tax on dollars. You do realize that. Don’t you?

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

***Begin Quote***

“Inflation has now been institutionalized at a fairly constant 5% per year. This has been determined to be the optimum level for generating the most revenue without causing public alarm. A 5% devaluation applies, not only to the money earned this year, but to all that is left over from previous years. At the end of the first year, a dollar is worth 95 cents. At the end of the second year, the 95 cents is reduced again by 5%, leaving its worth at 90 cents, and so on. By the time a person has worked 20 years, the government will have confiscated 64% of every dollar he saved over those years. By the time he has worked 45 years, the hidden tax will be 90%. The government will take virtually everything a person saves over a lifetime.”

— G. Edward Griffin

***End Quote***

And, we’re lucky if it’s ONLY 5%!

WRITING: Caught short

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

***Begin Quote***

The kids came for a visit. Great fun. The TV blares “take shelter”. Where? I run to the end of the drive way, grab a tire iron from the truck, and lever up the manhole cover. The womenfolk chase the kids down the hole. I shuttle blankets, water bottle, and some food down to them. What’s next? The family treasure chest and some protection. I pull the truck tail over the open hole and wiggle down my self. Everyone’s scared; me included. Who knows what’s next. At least we weren’t out in the open. Not too bad for being totally unprepared?

GUNS: Another Massacre At A “Gun Free Zone” College Campus

Another Massacre At A “Gun Free Zone” College Campus

Disclaimer: This article is a blog post and does not represent the views or opinions of Reiten Television, KXNet.com, its staff and associates and is wholly owned by the user who posted this content.

One gun, one person trained how to use it and willing to do so could have stopped most of this:

DEKALB, Ill. – Another person shot when a gunman opened fire at a lecture hall at Northern Illinois University has died, bringing the toll to seven, including the gunman, a coroner said Friday.

***End Quote***

just seems absurd to create the conditions for a disaster and then everyone is surprised when it happens.

Why don’t massacres happen at police stations, gun shows, or Gun Owners of America meetings?

Because killers may be crazy, but they’re not stupid!

In today’s politically correct world, the sheeple believe in fairy tales.

The police are here to protect you. Laws mean something. Or my personal favorite, gun free zones are safe.

Let’s call “gun free zones” exactly what they are “victim disarmament zones”. Or maybe “Come shoot me” invitations?

Did you ever notice that folks don’t put “this house is gun free” signs on their lawn?

But yet the gooferment skoolz advertise the fact.

Results: not surprising.
