GUNS: “An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.” — Robert A. Heinlein

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

Permit me to rant? Tools are not to blame for what bad people do. To ignore that there is a role in this violence due to: pharma (i.e., psychotropic prescribed drugs), the “(pseudo) War on (some) Drugs”, poor laws (i.e., Gun Free Zones is wishful thinking), apathetic law enforcement (e.g., ZERO federal gun prosecution in Chicago in the last eon), and Hollywood / Video Games (e.g., violent movies by anti-gun celebrities; “hit” games are prep for drone warfare). And, politicians make more ineffectual laws and argue for them by using incorrect terms (i.e., BHO44 says Newtown was automatic weapons — when he KNOWS that automatic weapons have been outlawed for decades and were not used there) AND incorrect stats (i.e., BHO44 says 80% without background check — when he knows, or should know, how wrong that stat is.).

ARGH!

Bottom line: Guns, like auto, chainsaws, lawnmowers, and bathtubs, are tools! Dangerous, yes. But are not things that can be outlawed. They are facts of life.

GOA thanks its grassroots for making the difference

“Gun Owners of America, with its war chest, membership and lobbying strength dwarfed by the National Rifle Association, is emerging as an influential force as a series of gun control measures heads to the Senate floor.” – New York Times, April 4, 2013

The Senate was supposed to be taking up gun control next week. But now it looks like the outpouring of grassroots opposition from GOA activists has forced Harry Reid to push back his plans for at least a week.

Said the New York Times, “The group [GOA] has already been successful in both freezing senators, particularly Republicans, who have appeared to be on the fence about supporting bills to expand background checks and [has been] empowering those who have a strong gun rights background.”

The article cited GOA’s work in bolstering the resolve of several Senators, but especially that of Tom Coburn of Oklahoma who has been frequently wooed by anti-gun Senator Chuck Schumer.

Your backing of GOA is what’s making all of this possible!

Thanks for supporting GOA and standing with us … for spreading the word … and for continuously taking action.

To date, no compromise has been reached. And that means Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid just doesn’t have the votes yet.

Here’s why:

More Senators have committed to support the Paul-Cruz-Lee filibuster, including James Inhofe (R-OK) and Marco Rubio (R-FL). There are even more Senators who are joining this list, and we will share those names with you next week.
A plurality of Senators voted for a GOA-supported Lee amendment, two weeks ago, requiring a super-majority vote to pass gun control. While the amendment failed (as it needed support from 60% of the Senate), it nevertheless sent a “shot across the bow” of the gun controllers ship.
On March 23, a majority of Senators voted to bar the Obama Administration from signing onto an anti-UN treaty. This was an important development, seeing as that the United Nations General Assembly approved the Arms Trade Treaty earlier this week.
More Congressman are joining the fight in the House to put pressure on House Speaker John Boehner to support the Hastert Rule – a rule that would kill all gun control. The number of Congressmen supporting the Stockman-Broun letter is now up to 30.

GOA has still been lobbying the House, even while we’ve been asking you to mostly focus your efforts on the Senate. To that end, MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell asked Rep. Peter King yesterday about the influence GOA is having in the House.

“The New York Times has a report on the Gun Owners of America,” Andrea Mitchell asked. “What are members saying about the impact of lobbying groups such as them [GOA]?”

King, who is, ironically, F-rated with GOA, said that, “Larry Pratt with the Gun Owners of America is effective. I don’t deal with them myself, but the fact is, they are effective.”

As we noted above, the New York Times quoted Senate aides on Tuesday as saying that “gun issues would probably slip to the week of April 15 – a setback considering that Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the majority leaders, had pledged that it would be the first issue to come up when Congress returns from spring recess next week.”

We’ll let you know what’s happening next week. But for now, enjoy your weekend knowing that Reid doesn’t yet have the votes.

Thanks for supporting GOA and standing with us … for spreading the word … and for continuously taking action.

POLITICAL: Where do the Second and First Amendment intersect? A fat old white guy injineer wants to know.

U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Passes Semi-Auto and Private Sales Bans

Posted on March 15, 2013

*** begin quote ***

On March 12 and 14, the Senate Judiciary committee held two working sessions to deal with gun-related bills.

The result of those hearings was the passage of Sen. Charles Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) S. 374, the “Fix Gun Checks Act of 2013″–which would criminalize virtually all private firearm sales, even temporary transfers–and Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-Calif.) S. 150, the “Assault Weapons Ban of 2013.”

Both of these bills pose a direct threat to our Second Amendment rights and both were passed on party-line votes, with committee Democrats supporting the bills and all Republicans voting no.

Respectfully, let’s apply these restrictions to the “First Amendment”?

You can blog, xerox, or anything else.

DO you think this is what the Dead Old White Guys had in mind?

New GPS Device To Help Warn Domestic Violence Victims About Abusers

If Attacker Enters Area He Or She Shouldn’t Be, The Cavalry Will Be Notified

November 1, 2011 9:21 PM

*** begin quote ***

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — It’s a tragedy that happens all too often. The victim of domestic violence gets a restraining order against her abuser, only to be beaten or killed when that order is ignored.

*** and ***

“The people who are going to be required to wear this are people who are convicted of violating an order of protection already. They’ve already done something where a court has demanded them to stay away from their victim,” Donovan said.

“I think it could be very helpful,” Santiago said.

*** end quote ***

Are you kidding me?

I know something that would be helpful. (Raising hand, saying “call on me”, me, me)

Politicians pass a law that gives the victim a presumption of self-defense if the violator is shot.

That and some quick training on a loaner.

It’s absurd that a court order is supposed to protect victims.

RANT: No harm, no foul, no arrest!

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CBS 2) — He was arrested for protecting his property and family.

But it’s how the Long Island man did it that police say crossed the line.

*** end quote ***

Not guilty!

p.s., I cced <an upcoming juror> who going to jury duty. Wanna get her conditioned to: “No harm, no foul, not guilty”! Just because the Praetorian Guard thinks they are the only ones who should have weapons, that doesn’t mean the citizens can’t have and use them. So who’s going to protect this man’s home if not him. Did they shake down all the folks threatening him? Bet they were carrying concealed! Sorry, but gang members do NOT need a weapon to scare and threaten me.

Gun control should be limited to hitting what you aim at.

The use of force in response to what law enforcement perceives to be a lack of force on the part of the trespassers in this case is a gross misinterpretation of the events.

A criminal does not have to have a weapon to forcefully enter a home and assault its residents, especially if the criminals number twenty individuals suspected of being part of a violent gang who are instigating the threats on private property.

In our view, the fact that these individuals were on Mr. Grier’s property, making physical threats against him, his wife and his children is reason enough for Mr. Grier to not only fire warning shots, but to take all available means to eliminate the threat.

This is exactly the reason why high-powered, semi-automatic weapons should be a part of every home defense plan.

Well said!

GUNS: O pulls pilot’s guns “silently”!

Obama secretly ends program that lets pilots carry guns
– The Washington Times

*** begin quote ***

After the September 11 attacks, commercial airline pilots were allowed to carry guns if they completed a federal safety program. No longer would unarmed pilots be defenseless as remorseless hijackers seized control of aircraft and rammed them into buildings. Now President Obama is quietly ending the federal firearms program, risking public safety on airlines in the name of an anti gun ideology.

So much for “openness” and “trasparency”!

RANT: Gun quote send me on my Drug War rant. It’s all connected.

Another Bright Shining Lie
by Michael Gaddy

*** begin quote ***

The state has many weapons in its arsenal to keep Boobus ignorant of their illegal, unconstitutional activities and in compliance with its confiscatory tax and slavery system. In all likelihood, the two most often used of these weapons are fear and prevarication.

Our new US Attorney General/Race Agitator, Eric Holder, last week used a bright shining lie in his advocating the introduction of a new Assault Weapons Ban. (AWB) He stated:

“Putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border. I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum.”

What a crock; believing the fantastically wealthy drug cartels actually secure their weapons from America is analogous to taking a hamburger to a steak dinner. The drug cartels use their millions, if not billions, to purchase some of the finest weaponry that can be had, far exceeding the firepower of their state-armed opponents in both Mexico and the US.

*** end quote ***

I agree that Holder is peddling “barbara streisand”!

We could pacify the Mexico, Columbia, and Afgan drug lords with one stroke of a pen.

End the psuedo-Drug War now!

What does a Drug Kingpin do when WalMart becomes your competitor? Drive a cab.

All we have to do is recognize that people make bad choices. We just don’t have to use the guns or government to inflict more pain on everyone.

I’ve read estimates that there is a “residual addiction rate”. Some people you will just be unable to keep from being addicted; no matter what you do.

I’ve seen estimates that ending the drug prohibition will actually reduce the addiction rate to the residual since there will no longer be the allure of “doing something illegal” to the young people.

I’ve read estimates that the cost of “illegal” drugs will drop to the cost of aspirin and that the marketplace’s (i.e., WalMart, RiteAid, Walgreen, CVS) “drugs” will be USP grade. (No more deadly overdoses from too strong street drugs or side effects of it being cut with rat poison.)

And, what does the gooferment have to do to accomplish this. Absolutely nothing but pass a law decriminalizing drugs. Closing the DEA, BATF, and FDA would also be a good idea.

Why won’t they? Money, power, and a scary “issue”.

President Obama could pardon ALL non-violent drug offenders.

And a cow could jump over the moon!

It’s all “barbara streisand”!

The powers that be like it this way so this is the way it will stay.

We have to end this nonsense the same way “We, The People” ended alcohol prohibition. In the jury box.

When you’re in the jury room hearing a drug case, and no one got killed, vote “NOT GUILTY”. Don’t discuss it. Don’t preach. Don’t say anything but “The State didn’t prove their case!”

The Drug War will be over in a heartbeat. The Gun Violence will follow soon after that.

WalMart will be selling drugs. Think they will sell to children? Think they won’t offer help? THink that they will have gun battle with the near by WalGreens?

Over stuff that has the profit margin of aspirin?

It’s all “barbara streisand”! And, we put up with it!!

Argh!
