Ipad1: interesting problem

Saturday, November 24, 2012

I have never been happy with the “app store” concept. As usual, immoral, inefficient, and ineffective.

(this is, as readers of my blog will know, my standard meme for gripes. Stuff that’s immoral is always wrong. Ineffective is does it work. Inefficient is it easy and cheap.)

The “app store” concept is;

~ “immoral” in that it transfers control from the “buyer” to the “seller”

~ “ineffective” in that problems are insoluble; support is non-existent

~ “inefficient” in that it doesn’t work flawlessly

My current gripe is the GMAIL icon has disappeared from the front screen, but is running in the background. I get alert messages on new email.

Double clicking start does not show it in the task list.

A hard restart or a soft restart doesn’t recover it.

App store thinks it is installed.

I have had problems with app store in the past that were never solved.

Argh squared!!

Loss of control of my device annoys me.

RANT: Sandusky is a product of the Gooferment

News Alert
from The Wall Street Journal

Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was found guilty on 45 of 48 counts related to sexual assault. The jurors found him not guilty on three counts. He was immediately led away from the courthouse in handcuffs.

Jurors announced the verdict Friday after weighing 48 charges accusing him of abusing 10 boys over a 15-year period.

Wish I could “cheer” the verdict.

I see this as indictment of the Gooferment, our civil society, and “civilization”.

In my worldview, the ONLY reason for “government” is for its supposed protection of “We, The People”.

It has CLEARLY failed. It’s failed the victims. It’s failed the communities. AND, probably more importantly it’s fail the taxpayers.

Imagine “government protection” is a service that your buying with your tax dollars — both overt and those hidden taxes I love so much like inflation and debt. Are you happy with your service in the “Sandusky” matter?

Immoral, ineffective, and certainly hugely inefficient.

Bear in mind that Penn State is a Gooferment “subset”. And, assumed voluntarily by Pennsylvania laws about teachers a higher standard of care for those under its dominion. (Note the root of that word “dominate”. Implies force.)

So it didn’t protect little kids; that’s immoral. Didn’t protect the community from a two legged varmint, And, spent a HUGE amount of resources NOT doing its job.

And, why wasn’t this plea bargained out? Not that I want him to get a wrist slap, but why did we have to pay for a circus?

I smell a politician wanting publicity.

TV camera and newsprint.

As a taxpayer, I’d gig EVERYONE in the prosecution chain of command for this waste of taxpayer money. All involved should have made a deal: he goes away until he’s 100, we convict on ONE fellony charge, and he rats out everything he did, who knew, when did they know, how he got away with it, etc. etc. etc.

We have to have some lessons learned!

OBSERVATION: Why “we” fail? Hidden memes.

I can see the diff.

The day doesn’t seem to start until after 9 and seems to end promptly at 4ish. Official hours are 845 to 1715.

I caused a stir when someone was bemoaning the lack of time to meet and I said: “there’s always Saturday morning”.

They all laughed, thinking I was making one of my characteristic jokes.

I just smiled and filed that away for future use in a future blog post. (This is it!)

I wonder how committed I ever was to any work task?

Probably, just the same.

“[Luke:] I can’t believe it. [Yoda:] That is why you fail.” — Yoda (Fictional character from George Lucas’s “Star Wars” movie)

There’s a Zen adage for this. Hope it comes to me soon. That, in and of itself, is not “being in the moment”! LOL?
