HARDWARE: Computers go toes up for many reasons

Monday, September 24, 2012

Every computer user should have a Carbonite or it’s equivalent. Computers go toes up for many reasons. After your platform becomes a smoking hole, or even just a hole when it gets stolen, what are YOU left with? Other than a “woe is me” tale. Astonishing to me is how few people have ANY backup strategy. No “Plan B”. Having paid tuition at that particular division of the University of Hard Knocks, I have no intention of revisiting the panic, dismay, and frustration of losing it ALL. (Not my fault. My employer had an enterprise backup plan. My platform was ‘overlooked’. Good bye 6 months of work. Some irreplaceable.) I’ve experienced this personally — two hard drives, one power supply, and one theft. with minimal impact. So, I am a firm worshiper at the “Church of Belt and Suspenders”! I’ve got layers of recovery. All set on automatic pilot. YMMV! But don’t expect sympathy from me when yours spinns, crashes, and burns.

p.s., I’m not shilling for Carbonite but for 60$/year, why not?

Rush Limbaugh unloads on fleeing advertisers
‘You won’t get apologies from people like Bill Maher
by Joe Kovacs

*** begin quote ***

PALM BEACH, Fla. – Radio giant Rush Limbaugh offered a second apology to a Georgetown University graduate student today after calling her a “slut” and “prostitute” last week, saying he descended to the level of the left, and added he would replace the advertisers who have abandoned his show over the controversy.

“I became like the people we oppose. I ended up descending to their level,” Limbaugh said. “It’s important not to be like them, particularly in fighting them.”

So, since I’ve been watching this train wreck unfold, I found: (1) the gal is NOT a 23 year old with a legitimate gripe; (2) she’s actually a political type; (3) contraception is freely available from Target two blocks from the school for 9$/month; (4) Rush apologized (sort of); (5) President Obama stoked the fire; just like his MO with the “beer summit”; and (6)  she’s enjoying her 15 minutes of fame.

So, just like I wrote in support of Don Imus, I wrote CARBONITE in SUPPORT of Rush. And will write to the others.

I’m not a Rush fan. I have listened him. He’s too “conservative” and supports the “warfare state” while he rails against the “welfare state”. But, he may have been a little dumb too. He should have suspect that this was a trap. But he fell for it. I would have to, but than I’m just a blogger; not a “trained broadcast professional”.

I’m outraged by the media’s selective outrage. The way they treated Sarah Palin. And, the lack of uproar when the “liberal” democratic operatives disguised as media commentators talked about Monica Crowley, Laura Ingram, and Michelle Malkin is biased. Some of those comments were a lot worse!

In SUPORT of RUSH, I came to sign up another computer. But I found out that you’ve abandoned him. Take a look at the situation again. True, he went over the line, but she was a trap. She’s not what she claims to be, and it’s becoming OBVIOUS that this a Democratic dirty trick. When you go back to him, so to I will come back to you.

SERVICE: Anther horror story of an old computer failing

Monday, February 20, 2012

On Saturday, I visited an old Jasper in the hospital. He was in for an emergency tune up. Hope he’s out by now. But, to the point, he was telling me his troubles with an unbacked up old Windoze box that was giving him fits. And, his family’s designated stuckee for tech support. Last time, he went through this, I pitched Mozy, Carbonite, or Pogoplug. Reprised that song.

On Sunday, I heard from a relative who’s old unbacked up Windoze box was circling the proverbial bowl. (Seems like “unbacked up” goes with “old Windoze box”.) Reprise my backup song.

Now I realize I’m crazed about it. Two belts and two suspenders.

My photos are on three live boxes, sugarsynced, carbonited, and pogopluged.

My data is on two live boxes, dropboxed, carbonited, and pogopluged.

Special projects are on one, two, or three live boxes, dropboxed, carbonited, and pogopluged. AND, boxneted.

I’ve lost work to Microsoft’s crappy solutions before.

Sure it’s messy, but if I lose something because I fat finger something, there’s always several places to recover from.

It’s only common sense.

I did the fix and the problem still exists.

Their response is to “call” us. Argh!

This is supposed to be “production quality” software on a bullet-proof OS.

It’s an illusion.

I’ve moved CARBONITE to my list — NOTRECOMMENDED!
