 Disable the Firewall
Open the Windows firwall go to the Advance tab and Uncheck the options of Local Area Connection and Wless N/w Connection: Press OK
after Go to RUN&#62; type services.msc: that will open the services Local : then Look for the option as WLAN Auto configuration: Right Click and Click on stop and then right click again click start
then associate the wLess again this will work fine
in case still you are facing the same disable the security software on the comp
that will surely do for you</description>

Your advice however was correct, powering off the computer (which obviously powers down the adapter) is even more important in Windows Vista as the system and adapters do seem to get stuck in some silly little state, especially with dodgy drivers.
